The difference is that Charlotte is a foreigner, and that where she comes from, Ravens are popular familiars. Ferrets on the other hand aren't really seen or mentioned at all from what I know (outside of a single mentioning of charmed ferrets in one of the books.)I don't remember this, can you remember where you're getting this information? That was quite a long time ago, and regulations may have very well changed since then.

His character seems to be foreign too? Or even if he isn't- I'm not sure why that makes a difference. Like I mentioned before; this is our roleplay not a re-inventing of the books or movies. It's up to GM ultimately; but I doubt it will be any problem to them.

Also, Yog is referring to Harry's son Albus- he had a ferret.

If you read his CS, you might notice that he was born and raised in England. Not foreign. This roleplay takes place alongside the series, and since the canonical way of things has been pretty much followed up until this point, I don't see why things should be changed.

Also, did you know that adding italics to everything makes quoting you bothersome?

My bad on the ferret, I'm not nearly as familiar with anything that extends past the original series.

EDIT: The ferret isn't totally canon, since it was only featured in the movies.

Well, we will just have to see what GM has to say about it all.
Canon items don't mean that much to me in a roleplay full of OC and OC ideas.
Shoot, my character isn't bring any animal at all- simply because I don't want to take care of one.

& Yes, I know it does- one of the many reasons why I do it. I'm Italian, I just can't help it. (:

Also- yeah, I have no true idea about much about the series at all- but eh, google and HPwikia does wonders.

Just thought I'd reiterate this, anyways it really is best to just wait for the GM. It honestly isn't a huge deal, I just don't like seeing any roleplay based on source material go against that source material, unless it is explicitly stated to be a re-imagining or alternate universe.

This roleplay is hardly full of OC ideas, it is clearly based on the canon course of events with only a single, virtually meaningless change.

Not bringing an animal is totally fine, witches and wizards have their entire lives to find a familiar.

Well considering this roleplay is already going against the source material (our first year will be 2013 based)
I'd say it was already said that this world has been re-imagined for our group of roleplayers.

But yeaaaaaaaah. I'll let it drop for now until GM comes back with some answers for us.
It's not a big deal for me either- I just hate to see people's ideas get turned down for obscure reasons.

To add on to your edit- We can't be too sure of that considering the roleplay hasn't started yet.
GM could have some tricks up their sleeves that puts this in a totally different path- but hey, I can't tell the future.

The roleplay being set in 2013 is hardly a re-imagining, since it has virtually no impact on the setting (seeing as the events of the series have also been bumped up to 2013, and Muggle technology doesn't really mix with the wizarding world.)

The contents of the Hogwarts Acceptance Letter is hardly obscure.

The first year quidditch thing. Forgot about that. Been a long time since I've read the books. I'll edit accordingly.

We really don't know that yet..as the roleplay hasn't started.
Maybe 2013 brought something new and imaginative to the grounds and the world.
We do have choice over that you know- collaborations with the GM; they seemed pretty open to the things earlier mentioned.. I personally find that the fun part of roleplaying- the creativity of taking things and making it the groups as we weave a story. The setting and time periods and such don't matter; but the story and character development that come from it is the good stuff.

But yeah

This is just becoming an endless and pointless conversation on my end- so I wont be responding after this one.

We'll see what happens.

Kind of the way I look at it is that you can't completely divorce the two, but you can be careful. We might not have a major impact, but there's no way we can set it during cannon without interacting with it in some fashion.

For example, all student of the same year, house, and gender seem to share a dorm. If you're a first year boy in Gryffindor then cannon would dictate you share a dormitory with Ron, Neville, Dean, Seamus, and Harry. For girls it would be Hermione, Parvati, Lavender.

I don't see too big of a problem with a ferret since they are domesticated and are pretty smart. Also ferrets are about the size of cats, and Ron brought a rat to Hogwarts even though Rats aren't listed as one of the main familiar

@Jester and Eyeris: Your characters are accepted~

@Yog: So... I read all the comments about your ferret, and I will have to say no. I just don't like students having pets that aren't the main three (toad, owl, cat), and about Albus having a ferret... I just read the books, and it didn't mention anything about that. Other than that, your character is accepted.

@EVERYOOOONE~: I'll be posting the OOC later tonight.

I was thinking on the train, so there's a lot more room for interactions.

Yeaaaaah, but it also explains that Ron was a 'family pet'. And besides, I doubt Scabbers is really there for anything except for J.K. Rowling needing to give Peter a good hiding place.

Okay I'll change it, so how serious are you about sticking very close to the books? Because slytherins are portrayed as being mostly bad

Slytherins aren't inherently bad, they're just misunderstood.

@Yog: Well, we'll be sticking to the books, but our characters will be the 'main' characters and the RP will focus on their own adventures. Basically, we're writing from a normal student's perspective, but there will be lots of references to the Golden Trio and stuff because of all the trouble they're up to. Also, like Aiisen said, Slytherins aren't evil. Here are some clips about them from the Sorting Hat songs...

Or perhaps in Slytherin
You'll make your real friends,
Those cunning folks use any means
To achieve their ends.

And power-hungry Slytherin
Loved those of great ambition.

For instance, Slytherin
Took only pure-blood wizards
Of great cunning just like him.

And besides, the S.H. remarked in the second book that Harry most likely would have 'done better had he been in Slytherin'.
