Personally, I don't mind it too much. In fact, I like how this group of characters is already shaping up to be, what with the whole "ragtag group of misfits" vibe. Of course, if someone submitted a character who had not tragic elements in their story, I'd be fine with that too. After all, they could play as a calming agent for the rest of the group.

Why would you want to have a boring, basic character with no depth who had an easy life until they went and decided for no reason to join a guild. I'm not saying its a bad character or a bad idea, just not interesting, doesn't have a motive or purpose for doing things. What if the story of King Arthur started with his dad going "Hey Arthur, you're king now my dude. Here's a sword and a group of nice guys who will fight along side you and die if you ask. Oh and a crazy old wizard we found in the closet you can have he should make for a zany tale. Now you go off and have fun champ!" Feels just colorless and bland.

You can have an interesting character without having dead parents, you know. There's other sources of strife. I'm not hating on everyone's backstories, just found it a bit odd how all of them shared a theme.

Fair enough. It is kind of odd, so I can't really blame you for wanting to point that out.

Also, on an unrelated note; Fell and I have been doing some talking, and I'm going to be controlling quite a few NPCs. Just a heads up so no one questions it when I control characters without CS's in my posts

I agree with you, though I think that having characters who's friend/family members are missing - which seems to be more often than them simply being dead - works for this roleplay in that they are a group of adventurer's looking for answers to many different question. But you are right, you can have an interesting character without dead parents. Of recent, I usually try to steer clear of the 'dead/missing parent' trope, but for this RP and character, it felt right. I can't speak for everyone's characters, of course, but they might have felt the same.

Okay, now that we already have a large group of confirmed characters and a couple of characters who's CS are in-progress, I am going to start working on the first IC post. For those who are still working on their CS or people who are just finding this roleplay and want to join, do not worry, I will continue accepting characters even after the roleplay begins because the point is that the guild starts off with a few members and slowly grows at time goes on and the story progresses.

Anyway, I'll start working on that now and should have it up soon enough.
