Background: Senth, throughout childhood and early adulthood, spent his days working on a family run farm with his parents, as did many on his low-tech planet. He was tasked with intensive fieldwork and was trusted to sell the family's produce at market and turn as good a profit as he could. Though content with his work and life, Senth's day to day activity remained uneventful as the years passed. That was until a ship came crashing through the atmosphere - a sight not seen for generations by the inhabitants of Asima because of an unfortunate feature of the planet. A large component of Asima's higher atmosphere had always been a searingly corrosive gas that, though many pretech hull platings could brush off, would shred the shielding on all but the most advanced postech ships. This fact had left the planet untouched by outside civilization since the Scream, leaving the planet a technological black spot. Hundreds of years later, Senth bore witness to their first contact with visitors, but alas - this event was not a happy one.
The ship was manned by a small team of pirates that crash-landed onto the surface, and now with no means of leaving the planet other than on a ship with gaping holes through the hull, they immediately rounded up Senth's village with far superior weaponry and quickly set up a makeshift labour camp lest the inhabitants steal their technology or kill them. The pirates' plan, however, was less than effective. The camp ran relatively successfully for several months despite some attempts to overthrow the gang from both within the contained village and from their nearby neighbours, but with each attack and the inexorable passage of time, resources dwindled. Technology failed; ammunition spent. Senth kept his head down for the entire ordeal, maintaining a careful watch on the invading group, trying to learn what he could about them. Finally, one night, a scheme he had planned in his mind he decided it was time to execute. Quietly he awoke his fellow people, explained his plot, and as the sun broke the village made one last attempt at escape. They overthrew their captors.
The inhabitants solemnly went back to rebuilding an all but ruined community that it would eventually function as it once did, but after the trauma of recent events, Senth could not simply join them. A yearning for greater adventure brewed within him, and the ship, though wrecked, could be his answer. Senth spent many days simply exploring the ship and what lay within. The technology was strange and unlike anything he or anyone he knew had seen before. Only reading the signs and labels over doors and panels and vast arrays of lights gave him any indication of the functions of the ship. Could what was left of this ship carry him away from his home to the galaxies he had but heard tales of, undoubtedly changed and exaggerated over the generations? Within the ship he found several exosuits carrying gas canisters which could allow him to breathe and survive the low pressure that would be caused by the ruined hull exterior. Though it was only enough to sustain a full crew for mere days, Senth could use all of the suits himself and survive for several weeks. Maybe it was enough. After testing the ship controls and feeling as though he could make a somewhat successful lift off and braving sorrowful goodbyes with his remaining family and friends, Senth launched away with an ungraceful takeoff, in an equally ungraceful ship.
Upon exiting the atmosphere, the harsh gases started completely ripping away what was left covering the cockpit. Senth was forced to seal the door and hide away in the guts of the ship. Once out of orbit, Senth returned to the navigational controls and made for a beacon of some kind, though it was simply labelled with a serial that meant nothing to Senth. He could be drifting towards anything. With some weeks to kill, Senth spent his time experimenting with the last few energy weapons in the armoury, squandering the final ammo reserves but gaining valuable experience and becoming a decent shot.
Senth was to discover that the beacon he had blindly floated towards in his all but destroyed ship was a nearby space station. There, with no money and no more use for his vessel, he sold it as scrap for 900 credits, the only offer he could find. He did not know the value of the currency but took it out of desperation. He bought equipment for defense to quell his overwhelming sense of vulnerability, and then joined the first crew that would take him, offering to help in any way he could. Soon, he became the quartermaster of a roaming ship, putting the skills of maintaining his market stall's inventory to use.
Personality: Having lived in isolation and primitive conditions throughout his life, Senth is ferociously curious, inquisitive and easily impressed. There is some level of dissonance in his mind about his attitude towards others - having only lived in a small population of people he knew and loved, it's not in his nature to be untrusting or wary, and yet the only people he has ever met from the outside universe were cruel, hostile pirates with no regard for his kin. Because of this, Senth tends to make quick decisions on who he trusts. Anyone who shows him any sort of kindness at all to which he can relate is experiences in his village, he immediately reciprocates with warm friendship. To those who have made him feel even slightly uneasy, he does his best not to let his guard down. Having not met strangers in his life, his feelings towards people tend to polarize, feeling extreme warmth towards them or an anxious desire to leave their company. Unfamiliar with the world he has thrown himself into, Senth is more an observer than one to lead the way, but is doing his best to adapt to his new surroundings.
Appearance: Despite standing at less than average height, Senth is broad and built from years of manual labour. Though subtle, facially Senth recognizably has some Japanese descent within him and bears the characteristic sleek, straight dark hair the Japanese are so often adorned with, which he wears at shoulder length as extra protection from Asima's cold climates. He also sports a full beard, which is slightly unkempt but not wild, and has grown to an inch or so in length.
