Good to know! Sorry guys my internet has been down since I got back home on Friday. ^^"
Name: Arin
Age: 17
Appearance:
Due to his somewhat baggy clothing and 5'9" frame, Arin comes off slightly bigger than he actually is. He keeps himself relatively groomed, although his naturally messy hair makes it seem otherwise. His golden eye's tend to catch the attention of others, but never have they been brought up in conversation. Due to his occupation Arin's clothing is usually sewn with various pieces of cloth. It's impossible to catch the young man without a thimble on his left thumb, which he wears as often as one would wear a wedding ring.
Occupation: Tailor
History:
Born and raised in a small town known as Mayloom, Arin's life could easily be summed up in one word. Plain. His family owned and lives in a clothing store renowned by the town. It wasn't prominent to the point where they lived a lavish lifestyle but the revenue was decent enough for them to have a satisfied life. Tailoring is the family business, and second-nature to Arin. Days upon days have been spent inside a messy room riddled with cloth and string, both on the ground and on himself. It's safe to say a majority of his life was spent weaving linen or sewing a torn coat. His skill for tailoring has even surpassed his mothers, however it's not really something the boy prides himself on. "Best Tailor in all of Mayloom" not exactly the most jaw-dropping feat. Even so it's a hobby nonetheless and one that keeps his life occupied and off of other things.
Mayloom is not rich or poor, not exciting or dull, not pleasant or unpleasant. The soil is average and the winters are bearable. Everybody knows everybody. Nothing is kept secret except for that which remains behind doors. There's nothing noteworthy or quirky about Mayloom, it's merely a town full of people that are content with living amongst eachother. Not once has Arin ever ventured outside of Mayloom. On some occasions he was willing to explore the outskirts with friends on days filled with nothing to do but never had the opportunity ever arisen for him to travel elsewhere.
The closest he's come is your typical oddball or trader that often passes through the town with a story taking place in some bustling kingdom full of everything Mayloom isn't. When not in the store, Arin can almost always be found at one of two places. Either at Mayloom's local school, or a lake just a short walk into a nearby forest. He's made a handful of friends over the years. The lake transforming into not just a mere hangout but practically their second home.
Personality:
Somewhat quiet but not at all shy, Arin comes off as your typical young adult with a few minor quirks here and there. He's not one to start a conversation directly and usually avoids people. However, if one were to simply approach and engage the young man they'd find out that he can hold a conversation quite well. In fact, a few people enjoy talking to Arin because he listens attentively and will happily respond as if he's well aware of a variety of topics.
He's not truly knowledgeable, but knows how to maneuver around unfamiliar topics. This is due to the fact that Arin strays away from people in Mayloom yet ironically he's quick to approach and talk to traders, bards, pretty much anybody from out of town and is enthralled by their stories. Because of this wondrous outlook Arin has developed an admiration for books. After an hour of tailoring he's quick to lay down in a pile of cloth and enjoy a novel, good or bad.
Even whilst living in a town as mediocre as Mayloom, Arin has somehow managed to develop somewhat of a sense of humor. He's not some kind of joker, but given enough time he could make somebody laugh if he knew them well enough. The young man is also known to be quite handy around the town and will gladly go out of his way to help another for the mere sake of kindness and good faith.
Don't judge a book by it's cover. This is a phrase that bodes well with Arin's persona. Anyone in Mayloom will look at him and see a normal, mediocre young man. Arin see's the people of Mayloom from a completely different perspective.
At the age of ten, he witnessed the death of his grandpa. This wasn't anything traumatizing or horrific, merely an old man resting on his bed, slowly experiencing a peaceful death. His grandpa was born in Mayloom and happily spent his entire life in the town. Lying in a bed as his life drained away was the best way to go according to the old man. Arin, however, saw it in a completely different fashion. His perspective on life changed. In his eyes his grandfather had accomplished nothing, he spent his entire life a waste of space. It was beyond pathetic, and that was the fate everybody in Mayloom was destined for. Maybe everybody in the world was destined for it. To be born, to live a mediocre life and then die. It was pointless. If one doesn't live a fulfilled life, they shouldn't live at all.
The idea wasn't as strong at the time but as Arin's years continued in Mayloom and he seemed no closer nor farther away a meaningful life, he began to not only doubt the worth of his existence but others as well. He spent hours upon hours, daydreaming about not just his death but the death of everybody he had ever encountered. Because he had spent his entire life in Mayloom, the world was small to him. The idea of everybody on earth dying wasn't ridiculous to the young man.
As time passed, Arin grew to hate people. Those who spent their days doing nothing. Out of everyone, he hated his friends the most. Yet, ironically, Arin also grew to hate himself. He doesn't choose to have thoughts about hatred and death, he merely can't help it. It's what's in his heart. And so he hates himself for hating everybody else. This bipolar attitude has led to a sociopathic state of mind. Because of Arin's constant death daydreaming, he's naturally become sadistic, but he hasn't the strength or aptitude to kill or harm anyone in Mayloom. Only the desire. However, on some nights when the daydreams and thoughts were too passionate and consuming, Arin would sneak out in the middle of his house and murder various type of cattle and sheep using only his tailoring scissors. Every kill was sloppy and poorly executed, but it was enough to satisfy his mind.
Arin hasn't dared to confide in anybody about his dark thoughts and desires. Half of the reason being he doesn't know anybody he could trust with such issues, and the other half being he's afraid punishment for such ill thoughts would be an execution or some type of banishment. His life in Mayloom continues on, one day at a time, as does his burning desire for the death of all people. The young man is on the verge of becoming a psychopath, yet his family, friends and neighbors are none the wiser.
Edit: that buildup was probably a tad bit much, but hella fun, haha.
