Background: For as long as she could remember, Aarila was a spacer. Her dad ran cargo back and forth between planets and her mom helped support them by doing mechanic work, both on their family ship and at the ports they would land in while dropping off cargo. As a little girl she did all she could to help them out, taking a keen interest in piloting while watching her father pilot their vessel through asteroid fields and heavily populated port cities alike. She wanted to inherit the family business and fly through space herself one day, a dream that never quite came true. Around her twelfth birthday, their ship was assaulted by pirates during a cargo run to the Outer Rim. Doing their best to try and get away, the small crew of their vessel was swiftly captured by the pirate. While they had little use for the men of the crew, they quickly snatched the women and the cargo and made off before anyone could answer the distress beacon.
Kidnapped and taken from her family, she endured captivity for months in the pirate's run down old lair out in some backwater asteroid field. She was young enough to avoid the pirate's attentions unlike her mother and the two others they had taken. Living as a miserable pet to some twisted criminals, it was by luck that one day while dropping off her food one of the pirates forgot to properly lock her cell. Springing at the opportunity for a possible escape, she swiftly snuck out of her cell and stealthily made her way to the others to release them as well. With her mother, the few crew they took and crews of other merchant vessels taken for ransom no doubt, a jail break had begun. Of course, several adults trying to sneak out of a station was far more noticeable than one child. The few remaining pirates not out on a raid in the base responded violently and in the chaos of the fight, Aarila's mother was injured. Managing to get her daughter onto one of the pirate's vessels before succumbing to her wounds, the terrified Aarila was left to escape on her own. A mixture of basic flight lessons, adrenaline and luck were enough for the young Twi'lek to leave the dug out base and get far enough from the lair to avoid detection.
Drifting aimlessly out in space, luck struck once more for Aarila. A passing vessel detected her floating out in the vacuum of space by a trade route the pirates had positioned themselves on. Having checked the old Headhunter she was in for survivors, she was rescued by the crew and saved at long last. Apparently her saviors had been a pair of smugglers just finishing up a job. Having no where else to go and explaining her story, the smugglers were kind enough to allow her to stay with them so long as she assisted in menial tasks on board the vessel. Several years passed, with the young alien learning the tricks of the trade from the duo. Upon reaching the age of eighteen, Aarila decided it was time to stop burdening the pair who had adopted her after the pirate debacle to start her own outfit up. Having saved every credit she had ever been given off the various jobs she helped in, she afforded herself a user freighter and began a career of smuggling herself.
A mere few months into her career, The Light struck the galaxy, shaking it to the core. With pirates flooding space and operational ships becoming rare, she took full advantage of the chaos by running supplies between desperate worlds, making bank and becoming a seasoned pilot while doing so with sights to make even more in the long run.
