Crusade came from Vitates Sith Empire that's in hiding in the Unknown regions till the events preceding SW:ToR eight years ago and has since been gathering up Sith Enclaves all across the Galaxy. If you can work that in, so be it. Nobody from the main Galaxy other than Crusade knows about Vitates empire btw. He wiped all the Navicomputer data from his ships and only used droid crew and slave circuits so he will have to have joined in during that.
Likely your Sith Lord will be trying to get himself into some standing or gauge the strength of Crusade. Alternatively perhaps Crusade came across said Lord and his wookie before fighting the Lord as he refused to conform, the Wookie due to the awesome nature would then be given to Suade to break.
That's one possible scenario.
