Maybe you should look into this thing I have. It's called "Bed Buddy" and its basically this... cushy thing filled with some kinda beads. You can microwave or freeze it, and then wrap it around your neck, shoulders, ankles, whatever. It's reusable. It's fairly comfy too, so maybe you can rest with it on the back of your head where it hurts.I had one. I need to get as new one.
Freezing might be better in this case. Heat can cause inflammation which we don't want near the spine.I switch between the two. Heat helps more than cold.
