Mana is present in all living things, but it's not usable. Usable mana and ambient mana are two very different things in terms of this setting.

Doesn't literally have to be ki, I was just trying to get my point across. Attacks using "spirit energy/pressure," or what have you. If such a thing isn't feasible, perhaps these are just pure mana attacks, but in a kinetic, tactile sense rather than, like, energy beams or something.

Think of the affinity as being "Spirit," but in the sense of the user's spirit, not entities known as spirits.

And pure mana of any kind is very strictly off-limits, for reasons of power as well as in-universe reasons.
