Arcturus Theta
Mysteries of the Abyss
In the year 2053, Earth established its first orbital elevator, making space a much more accessible frontier for mankind. With the elevator, transporting materials and resources into space was cheap and quick. Soon, the moon had become a permanent domain for man. Years later, Mars had seen its first colonies. After thirty years of development, Mars and Luna both had their own orbital elevators. The colonies thrived as trade was made easy thanks to the low costs of the elevators. In 2101, the privatized warp drives had begun distribution publicly, it was then possible to take a weekend trip to Mars or move to the distant moon colonies of Saturn and Jupiter. Space stations were established between these planets, massive constructs that housed millions of people. Asteroids and comets were popular job sites for mining. Humanity was in a golden age.
2178, humanity had expanded as far out as Pluto-Charon, with colonies on nearly every moon the gas giants of the outer ring could offer. There were nine station colonies in the Sol System as well. Humanity had nowhere left to go. Warp drive technology had been stagnant in its progress, despite the speed warp drives were able to achieve, the nearest star was still ages away. In 2179, a monitoring station on the dwarf planet Ceres, far off in the Kuiper Belt, detected a strange anomaly. After three years of studying and theories, all results pointed to one thing. The only way to find out what was causing this anomaly, was to travel out and investigate. The mega-corporation, KrystalTech Dynamics, put together a team and dispatched them. The team launched in 2184. Using the most advanced warp drive humanity could build, they made it to the boundaries of the anomaly's gravitational field in a few days. The anomaly wasn't in the Sol System, it was five times further away from the Sun than even Pluto-Charon.
When they arrived, the team discovered a wormhole. Wormholes aren't created naturally, thus it was planted there. Even in 2184, no alien life had been encountered. The wormhole, known as 'the Rift', reinvigorated the question. Drones and small manned missions were sent through the Rift. Their reports, a massive planet covered entirely by water was just on the other side. This planet, five times the size of Earth, was teeming with alien sea life. The low gravity of the planet created titanic and even monolithic creatures, some reaching a size that'd match a cruiser. Parent star of this planet was Arcturus, so the planet was aptly named Arcturus Theta.
Efforts were made and a new station colony was established not far from the the Rift. The station colony was headed by KrystalTech Dynamics, the plan was that everybody aboard this station colony, would embark on a journey through the Rift. The mission began in 2299. After the station colony had reached a population of five million, the leaders of humanity, and the CEO's of the mega-corporations, agreed that it was time to embark. The station engaged its main thrusters and entered the wormhole. The station and all five million inhabitants safely arrived on the other side. The station was built for this planet, and it immediately went to work. Every inhabitant of the station colony who was of age was a worker for KrystalTech Dynamics. They brought the station into a stationary orbit. The station was carrying many things, the first to be deployed was an anchor that latched itself to the seabed of Arcturus Theta. Then, a large platform was lowered to the water surface. The platform was also anchored to the seabed, some two thousand miles down. After the platform was secured, the lower half of the actual station colony rode the anchor cable down, leaving the upper half to act as a station for the orbital elevator the colony formed into. The lower half attached itself to the platform, where construction began. They were building domes on the platform.
After the entire colony platform has been encased in large force fielded domes, the platform submerged, riding the anchors down to the base of the of the planet, carrying the population of some twelve million people inside with it. The entire process of building the anchors and the domes took until 2402, the first people of the station colony were long gone, and their children were nearing the end of their lives. It was the grand children that saw the station become known as Atlantis. It was the grand children that gave birth to the first generation of Arcturans.
Two hundred years later, in the year 2625, Arcturus Theta was now a part of human territory. Dome cities dotted the sea floor, platform cities on the surface. There were twelve orbital elevators all around the massive behemoth of a planet. The planet was still largely a mystery, however. Not all of it had been mapped, as the past two centuries were focused on colonizing and developing the world. In this age, humanity had begun exploring and learning everything Arcturus Theta had to offer. There was one question that was foremost in everybody's mind, 'who placed the wormhole that led here?'.
Up to that point, all of the cataloged sea life were feral beasts. Everything from the small, human head sized, Orko Crabs to the gargantuan Great Arcturan Sharks. None of them showed signs of intelligent life. It was the greatest mystery to mankind, but they believed they would find it on Arcturus Theta.
2626, a mining operation on the edge of the mapped planet caused a crack in its crust. The crack was the first tragic event, and it unleashed a whole plethora of new, incredibly viscous life. The head sized Lipid, were the first encountered. The lipids were creatures that attached themselves to other creatures and took control of their nervous systems. The lipids would eat the host's brain in the process and replace it with themselves. The next to emerge from the new crack, were the Razor Shrimp. Twice the size of a man and highly aggressive. Razor shrimp hunted in packs of eight or more. They had hard chitinous shells that shrugged off most weapons fire. Razor shrimp have accounted for eighty percent of deaths cause by sea life.
But among the most terrifying to emerge from the crack, was the Leviathan. The Leviathan emerged from the crack and started making its way toward the dome city not far from the mining site. The Arcturan Deep Sentries, the securty force on Arcturus Theta, received warning that the large creature was headed straight for the city. They set up a blockade. When it arrived, it did so with swarms of lipids and razor shrimp. The blockade, consisting of eight frigate subs, three destroyer subs and a capital sub, along with a battalion of sentries equipped with advanced dive armor battlesuits and a squadron of sub fighters were all but annihilated. The city fell with the defeat of its military presence. The force field domes keeping the water out failed, and the entire city drowned. This was known as the Pacific City Incident.
After the fall of Pacific City, the ADS begun a massive reform. They went from a security force to a fully fledged military organization. With supplies from the Sol System, the ADS was equipped to deal with the new threats the crack unleashed. fleets of submarines patrolled every mapped region of Arcturus Theta and any explorer vessel was escorted by a group ADS ships. Mega-corporations thrived on this, taking any chance they could get to sell product to the new military. The ADS, with its training in underwater, marine boarding and urban combat, became the most elite fighting force in human dominion. They were always on the alert for the Leviathan, but it never appeared again.
Mega-corporations sought out ADS veterans for their security forces, as they had experience in a variety of environments and against both wildlife, rebels and extremist corporations. In 2629, The mega-corporations present on Arcturus Theta broke into all out war. The ADS needed to get involved to try and keep the peace, but even they were drawn into a bitter conflict. This was known as the Deep War. It waged on for six years, ending on the fourteenth of June on the Terran clock. The declaration was passed that mega-corporations could only have a security force of battalion size, and would need to allocate their forces as the situation called for. Any larger than a battalion and the ADS would warn them to lower the size of their fighting force.
Things stabilized again and Arturus Theta was back on the path of exploration, looking for whatever placed the Rift just outside of the Sol system. One exploration vessel received a signal. As it moved to investigate the signal, they came across the crack that had led to Pacific City Incident, it was far apart as the grand canyon, like it had grown since then and there was no telling how deep it was. The signal coming from it was mostly static, but behind it was a sequence of clicks and ticks. It wasn't morse code, but the explorers believed that it was some form of communication. The crack was given an official name, the Veiled Abyss.
After notifying the government of this discovery, they collaborated with KrystalTech Dynamic, Shida Orgonomics and Entek Industries to construct an exploration vessel the likes of which the planet had never seen. Poseidon, with a capacity of one thousand people, the Poseidon was tasked with venturing into the Veiled Abyss and locating the source of the signal. Aboard the ship, was a compliment of two hundred ADS marines, and a squadron of eight SF-21 Tigersharks. There was all of the necessary crew to operate the ship, as well as dignitaries and diplomats should the Poseidon make contact with an intelligent species. There were recreational facilities, laboratories to study the various things that may be down in the abyss. In 2630, the Poseidon was completed and ready for its adventure into the unknown.

Appearance: This one can be either pictures or descriptions, or both. I don't care if the character is anime or not, so feel free to use what you like.
Faction: If applicable. Your character may be aligned to one of the mega-corporations such as KrystalTech Dynamics, Shida Orgonomics, Entek Industries or another one of your creation. Ask for information on this. You may also be a member of the ADS. Since the Poseidon is an endeavor of the government and the corporations, everybody on the ship is representing one of the factions.
Certifications: Is your character qualified in anything? Perhaps your character is an ADS marine certified in Dive Armor use or has a background with Sub Fighters. Is your character a mechanic for the heavy equipment within the ship? There could be any number of things, but keep it practical, please.
Augmentations: In the far future, cybernetic and genetic augmentation is very common. Humans born anywhere else than Earth need basic augmentations so they can adapt to environments that humanity never evolved to live in. Did your character lose an appendage and need a prosthetic? Or maybe your character was genetically augmented during the Deep War.
