King Bythos the Third ruled over the Kingdom of Haldor with great might. Under Bythos, sometimes called the Gold King, Haldor expanded its borders from the eastern shores of the land to the great misty mountains hanging over the prairies that now reside on the western edge of the kingdom. Bythos struck gold in the mountains, and Haldor's wealth nearly tripled and brought much prosperity to the lands of Haldor as trade blossomed with neighboring regions. But when Bythos died, the kingdom was thrown into chaos as his son, barely 17, inherited the throne and the legacy of Bythos's family line. Now Haldor copes with the weight of a transfer of power. Opposing factions in the capital of Aster seek the death of Bythos's son, Prince Wolfram. Insecurities remain among people who see Wolfram as unfit for the position of ruler. Pressure from neighboring nations threatens war on Haldor and want to capitalize on the instability in Haldor to take Haldor for themselves and end the reign of the monarchy in Haldor. Wolfram himself bears a secret, and the night before the Coronation, the Golden Promenade, he plans to spill the secret to one person.
The idea is that people are coming to the Golden Promenade to see the Prince: diplomats, civilians, the rich, the poor, the powerful, other princes and princesses. All of them hope to have their demands met by the Prince. You make your own characters, you can make some of the foreign nations, you can be a member of a faction, a foreign leader, a diplomat, an ordinary citizen. You name it, and I'll see what I can do if it's not overpowered or unfair. That's it. It's pretty player-driven. Is anybody interested?

Edit: Also, I'd be very interested to know if anyone wants to help co-GM. If you would like to co-GM with me, then please show me some of your previous GM work (like any characters you rejected, any time you responded to people breaking the rules) from any roleplay on any site, and I'll see. As for everyone, I also expect active roleplayers who can post on an almost daily basis.

Edit 2: I made a map.

I'm interested but I've got a couple questions/things I'm just clearing up.

  • I'm assuming you're(?) playing Prince Wolfram

  • Alright so we're going to go see the prince at the Golden Promenade, but isn't that kind of a liability? If anyone can meet him, there are sure to be some assassins there since people seem to think he's unfit.

  • Why's the guy seen as unfit for rule?

  • So we have some sort of demand for the prince and he has to fulfill it? Isn't that a bit much to demand from him especially if I was say a foreign diplomat who wanted Haldor to lower it's taxes or whatever, how can he assure me, the diplomat, that he can do that?

  • You've left yourself open for people to make up neighboring nations and that tends to leave a lot of chaos in the OOC. What about making three-five other nations and a general description of them to give an orderly limit of how many princesses/princes there are? Just a suggestion.

  • You have everything up to the Golden Promenade and meeting the prince and demanding stuff from him. But what happens after that? Will there be a plot or will it be a sandbox?

Aspidochelone said I'm interested but I've got a couple questions/things I'm just clearing up.

    Well, very easily answered questions:
    1. Yes, he's an NPC, so of course. I don't think anybody else knows Wolfram's secret anyway.
    2. All weapons are discarded upon entry. The entire castle is heavily staffed with guards and knights.
    3. Youth is usually considered equivalent to immaturity. Wolfram is considered unfit because of that idea. Training for kingship starts at age 16 and, depending on the person, ends somewhere between 18 and 20. Because Bythos III died, Wolfram had to rush through his training and rise to the throne at an earlier age. Obviously he'll be somewhat unprepared.
    4. He's not expected to meet these demands and he's not required to meet them either. I don't know where that idea comes from. As with all kingdoms, people will present their demands to the king. Enough said. People are coming to try and gain his favor and expand their influence. Nothing was said about promising that these demands will be met. Typical medieval politics. They hope to have their demands met. They want to please Wolfram, so that they can get what they want.
    5. Eh. I'm not too concerned. I'm allowed to limit the creation of these nations as I please. If it causes chaos, it's easily rectified, and I can just as easily deny the existence of a nation if people make too many. But I highly doubt everyone is going to run for those positions of power. There have to be civilians and people living in the city too. In all of the times I've seen the neighboring nations left sparingly open to creativity, I haven't seen chaos. I really strongly doubt that anybody is going to make a beeline for royalty. That'd be boring and extremely cliche. Besides, I could just as easily reject them all. I might make some nations on my own anyway and produce a little map as a guide. Former kings, queens, princes, and princesses would be cool to see, like escaping their past or whatever. I like odd situations and unique character backgrounds. Yeah, basically, if you're gonna make a member of foreign royalty or an official of a foreign government (whether democracy, monarchy, dictatorship, etc.), at least make it interesting. I can't and won't accept generic characters or Mary Sue characters.
    6. There's a main plotline I have in mind thought up to major events, but underlying plot arcs and such are, as usual, up to the players. So those romantic subplots? Open to everyone. Those conspiracy subplots? Open to everyone. But the main plot is under my command, and I'm planning it ahead as we go. The Golden Promenade, I figure, should be a good way to introduce everyone and kickstart the conflict.

Mr_pink said So is this fantasy or just medieval?

Mix of both. Medieval-esque (but not purely; in other parts of the world that this roleplay is based in, there are other varying cultures) with fantasy. Magic is rare, and the average person will not know any magic. It's not a widely-discussed, concerning topic either. People may fantasize about it, though. The typical fantasy races exist: elves, dwarves, orcs, humans. I might make one or two more of my own. I'll talk more about the races and where they're distributed when I have a map.

Great to have you on board!

I'd love it if we could get at least 6 more people on this; the more active players we have, the merrier.

I'm bumping again because I'm GM garbage. I'm not going through with this if I don't get enough people to have a roleplay.

I like the premise, but wish it'd prioritize on medieval rather than fantasy :/

I'd love to play some kind of viking warrior or earl or sumthin.

I'm interested, but I'd prefer if we dealt only with humans and not mages and stuff.

Like I said, magic is not common at all. The people that do practice it are few and far between, so in all likelihood none of our characters could be mages. But other races are a thing.

The world is not the one we know, and it's separated from the one we know by its fantasy creatures. Anyway, it's not really prioritizing on either. It's a kind of happy medium between the two wherein not everything is medieval-esque or fantasy.
