Sword Art Online: Second Server

10,000 copies of Sword Art were sold and its unfortunate players became the headlines of news globally. 10,000 players became stuck in a virtual game where life and death were very real things. What was not so documented however were the pirate players… those that were stuck on second server.

The setting: This RP is set in the word of Sword Art Online, which is an anime about players that get stuck in a virtual game. These players are told that they cannot log-out unless the game is cleared, and that death inside the game will cause death outside of the game. This RP will be set at the same time on ‘Second Server’, a server which the games creator set aside for players who purchased pirated versions of the game. This version of the game is similar in most ways but has 99 floors instead of 100 and is considered to be fairly harder, mostly because of the larger number of players (14,361). Players will initially write one or two posts sets at the start of the game when Kayaba Akihiko (the game’s creator) makes the announcement that players are trapped in the game. Following this the date will skip from November 6th 2020 (Day 1) to the 13th of June 2021, which will be five days after the 35th and 36th floors are cleared. At this point there is only around 9 thousand players left. Players have freedom to pretty much do what they want within reason. There are some plotlines I have ready to implement, some of which involve guild conflicts (therefore please consult me via PM if you wish to majorly involve any of the top-5 guilds in any plot-lines). Players can either go solo, command/be a member of their own guild, or be a low to high-mid member of one of the top-5 guilds. Players are encouraged to join the Braziers and to take part in the front-line battles. Players characters can die, but no killing characters unless you have let a GM know in advance. Also, no killing other player’s characters without first getting their agreement. If your character dies you are free to make another. For now I’m putting a two character limit in place, although players can make and kill NPCs as they wish. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Main differences: Server differences:

• Due to Kayaba Akihiko not being present there are only 99 floors.
• There are 14,361 initial players instead of 10,000.
• Because of the two above points this server has been made harder, with enemies having slightly higher stats and with some challenges being encountered earlier.
• The pirated copy stems from an older version of the game, and despite Kayaba making some changes and updates, there are still many bugs. This includes: bosses not being where they should be; some very minor item exploits; and some quests that should have been removed due to difficulty. Real life differences:
• Players may be less likely to tell people they have the game, therefore decreasing their chances of being found before their bodies die.
• Depending on what country they come from and the laws there, many players are unable to hold the game company responsible for the health treatment costs due to them having an illicit copy of the game.
• A combination of these two factors as well as the increased difficulty has led to many more deaths in the early days in comparison to the official SAO server.

Rules

Follow RPG rules. This should pretty much sum up most things for most people. This is an RP, not a porno. Respect others. Don’t fucking swear too much. Don’t be dicks to each other. Respect the GMs (and other players… but mostly the GMs). You get the picture. When you post your CS please include “I love your milkshakes” at the bottom of it to show you have read the rules. Killing NPCs is fine, unless they are key NPCs (meaning they are notable ones or form a big part of a plotline). You can kill player characters once you have gained permission from the character’s owner and a GM. Keep grammar standards high. If you post terrible grammar you will receive a strike. Three strikes and you are out of the RP. Please alert the RP or the GMs of any expected absences. If you are away for more than one week the GMs may take control of your character. I did once try to implement a rule where if you didn’t post every so often you were kicked from the RP but that didn’t seem to work (mostly because I was away more than anyone else!)

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Timeskips (TS): Unlike the anime, there will not be constant time-skips. The largest TS will be the first one and thats only for the sake of being able to skip to a more juicy bit of time. Generally we will avoid doing TS but there may be times they're appropriate. For example if a floor has just been cleared and there's not many other plot-lines going on I might, after asking everyone, skip to that floors labyrinth to save having to clear the whole floor. But even then, clearing a whole floor works as a plot in itself so maybe not. A TS might also be used if the GMs feel the RP has started to die off. We might summarise what has previously happened and jump forward so its like a fresh start. This would likely be followed by a recruitment drive. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Top 5 Guilds Blood Dragons The White Lotus The Night Fissures Order of the Devine (Formally) The Braziers Also take note of: The Nightshades The Grey

Guilds

The Braziers: The Braziers serve primarily as a scout group. They have often been the first guild to explore a new floor and often are the ones who have fight sighted bosses. They keep their numbers very small so they are not suited to take on bosses alone, although they normally will take part in the raids alongside the other front-line guilds. The guild only consists of ten or less members at any given time and this is for a couple of reasons. Firstly it means that each individual player receives more and can grow stronger. And secondly it means the group can remain more tight-knit, which is good for trust as well good cohesion in battle. With the exception of ‘Guild President’, ‘Guild Vice-President’ and ‘Guild Secretary’, each member is named after the role they fulfil. In the guild hall they have plaques which record every fallen member and the position they filled. Members are encouraged to wear the guild’s light metal armour but it’s not mandatory. The guild was very recently wiped out with the exception of the Guild VP, Hawke. It occurred less than five hours after the previous floor was cleared, and according to Hawke they accidently stumbled across the next boss and were unable to escape. This is first occurrence of a non-escape boss room and many are suspicious, especially given that it meant Hawke allegedly finished the boss off solo. The guild is now recruiting but many are choosing to stay away from it and its new leader. The Blood Dragons: The Blood Dragons are perhaps one of the most secretive of guilds despite being the highest ranked guild. It’s believed they have around thirty-five members but no-one outside the guild is sure. Each member is recruited in secret and only when they have proved to be a powerful (or potentially powerful) player, and are not allowed to leave the guild. Unless they are in their hidden HQ each member wears a helmet to mask their identity and is addressed by number. Members are forbidden from revealing their true identities to outsiders. It’s believed that they do this to prevent outsiders from targeting individual members or their weaknesses. Their leader is Blood General Iroh, and he often dictates how a raid will proceed. Because of their high ranking and secretive nature, many people are filled with both fear and awe when they see someone wearing their armour. It’s believed their helmets exploit a bug which allows the wearers to hide their names. The White Lotus: This server’s equivalent of Knights of the Blood. The guild consists of around thirty high levelled players. Whilst they are one of the bigger guilds, every member must prove to be an experienced fighter before joining. They try to act very moral and believe themselves to be above some other clans. Their armour varies from member to member, but each will wear mostly white and will wear the lotus arm band (a yellow band with a white lotus symbol). Although they often work together to take down bosses, they are bitter rivals with The Blood Dragons and always fight to get the last hit on the boss. The Night Fissures: The Night Fissures started off as a protection group, offering their services to lower ranked players. This included leading players through dungeons, to higher zones or even just protecting them from hostile players. The roguish leaders of the guild quickly became some of the games richest players and so naturally gained some equipment advantages which led to them eventually joining the front-lines. The guild has around thirty players, with the top six being much more powerful than the rest. They have no uniforms Order of the Devine: This guild is the largest on the server, with around two thousand members. What distances it from other guilds isn’t actually its size, but rather the fact it is a Christian only guild. The guild understandably draws some tension, and there is even some infighting within it. Leadership or the guild changes on a fairly regular basis, with the old leader usually coming to an unfortunate end. Whilst the guild primarily believes in helping all players and beating the game, there are clearly some fanatics as well as players who are simply using the guild to further themselves. Some have argued that it is a player killing guild, but others argue that it’s unfair to judge the whole guild by the actions of a very small minority. Although any member is welcome to join the front lines, they have a Special Operations Squad (SOS) which consists of only high performing players. The only uniform requirement is to adorn oneself with a cross (be it on the armour or on a piece of jewellery), but the majority of the middle level players that form the bulk of their force will wear one of the games most common armour sets. The Nightshades: A notorious red guild, the Nightshades are believed to be assassins and bandits. Although the guild definitely existed in the early days it no longer is registered by the system. It’s unclear whether they have disbanded, been killed, or merely act in secrecy. Some have hypothesised that they act as puppeteers for other orange guilds, having infiltrated smaller groups. The fabled leader of the guild is known as ‘Shade’ but this is likely to be an alias rather than a username. Next to nothing is known about ‘Shade’ or whether this person even really exists. The Grey: The Grey is an unofficial guild comprised of many high level players. The Grey act as a police force against orange and red players. The guild originally started off as an actual guild known as ‘The Protectors’ but found that their members were often too weak to effectively tackle criminals, therefore higher level players started lending their help. The Protectors still form part of the Grey but are in charge of running the prison in the Black Palace rather than catching the criminals. The Protectors wear grey armour but members of the Grey normally identify each other by name rather than appearance.

NPCs

Here is a list of notable NPCs Blood General Iroh: Iroh is the leader of the highest ranking guild in Second Server: The Blood Dragons. As a result he is also one of the strongest players in the game. Unlike every other member of the guild, Iroh’s identity is not hidden and he does not wear a helmet. He stands at just under six foot and is of very stocky build. He has very light blue eyes which contrast to his dark skin. And he has long jet black hair which is tied into a tail at the back and at the sides joins to a large thick beard. He is likely in his very early thirties but his appearance and presence make him seem much older. He is very cold and unwavering, willing to do whatever is necessary to beat the Blood Dragons’ enemies. He often leads the pre-boss fight meetings. Iroh wears the typical Blood Dragon armour (minus the helm) and wields a battle axe. He is a balanced player. Galaxy: As the leader of the White Lotus, the second highest ranking guild, Galaxy is not perhaps what you would imagine. For a start he is clearly no older than 18, and his skinny tall pale appearance makes him look rather sickly. He is actually albino, which is why he has such pale skin, white hair and violet eyes. Galaxy is very well spoken and comes across as trying to be very righteous, which often makes people think that he’s stuck-up. Though he is the figurehead of the White Lotus, he is usually content to let his left and right hands do most of the work and talking. He wears varying sets of light white clothing to provide maximum movement. He uses a rapier that causes bleeding and is said to be one of the game’s best duellists. He is an agility focussed player. Knight-Commander Justine: The leader of the Special Operations Squad (SOS), Justine is technically the second-in-command of the Order of the Devine. However her role is purely combat based and therefore spends her time on the front-lines away from the politics and infighting. Some are disillusioned at her apparent apathy towards the rest of the guild, but not many bother to raise concerns about her or try take her place (as is the case with the Grand-Cleric). She was of the many original players who joined the guild merely to have a place and community in which she could practice her faith. For Justine this only really meant praying and attending Sunday service, but this has been spoiled but the fanatics amongst other things. She is relatively calm and some would even say detached, but she clearly cares about what is best for people and is often one of the more liberal and forgiving voices in a discussion. Justine is a defensive player (tank basically) that uses a large shield and straight sword. She wears armour like this but without the camel toe. Grand Cleric Bertrand of Slough The current Grand Cleric of the Order of the Devine. Some argue that given the sheer number of players in the guild that he is the most powerful player in the game, but more experienced players would argue that in this game only stats count for anything. He appears to resort to violence quickly and has a bloody temper. Justine calls him a fanatic and given the luck of his predecessors he will be unlikely to live much longer. Bulbasaur Bulbasaur or ‘Bulby’ is a member of the Night Fissures. He is one of the top-6 members but his skills are not really focussed on combat. Instead he acts as a source of information and a diplomat of sorts. He is fairly good friends with Hawke and has been trying to convince his guild to keep their ties with the Braziers. ‘Shade’ The infamous leader of the no-longer official red guild, the Nightshades. Next to nothing is known about him or her. Some hypothesise that Shade acts as a puppet master for other orange and red guilds. Other argue that the original was killed and that it’s unlikely the Nightshades still exist at all.

Personality: In real life, Haul was someone who always lived up to the expectations of others, behave like this, eat like such, do like that. His life wasn't his but rather, he always felt like he was just fake. In real life, he was all smiles and a well behaved person, an average human who didn't stand out. He would have never done anything he wanted to do, feel the thrill of something. He liked to watch box and UFC matches, but he never gathered enough courage to be in one, he would have liked to do extreme sports, but he never really did so. He was a gutless coward who merely went with the flow of things.

But in SAO, things changed. He felt like he didn't have to fake anything in that fake world, no, maybe because it was fake was why he felt like he could do whatever he wanted. He let out his real self, and boy, is he rotten. Hazard doesn't care who he has to stomp to do what he wants and also likes playind the role of a villain and would have played it through and through had it been a normal game. In the death game, he is an asshole with a sharp tongue who likes to point out the things that are wrong with others and laughs at their disgrace. He gets on the nerves of people, but nobody can deny that he is really useful. He now tries to do everything he didn't do in real life, live his life to the max and not let anyone get in the way of his fun.

He lives for fun and only for fun. Anything can entertain him, as long as he deems it entertaining. However, what he finds most entertaining are secrets. Of people, of items, of the game itself. He acts as an Information Broker in the game apart from a front line fighter. While he does participate in Boss fights and whatnot, he doesn't seem to want to get out of the game, and the reason as to why he fights against bosses is still unknown.

Brief Real Life Background: In real life, Haul was nothing but a programer with a gaming hobby. He tried SAO on a whim, since he wasn't all that trusty about the Nervegear, but he never could have predicted what was going to happen.

Game Background: Hazard first sunk in despair when he heard the news. Maybe he was in despair or something, but he soon resolved himself. He couldn't just stay there. He would die at that rate. He took up the mantle of an antagonistic character as the form of his bravado, though it soon became part of his personality. He knew that the skill he had selected wasn't really apt for front line fighting so he chose to become an Information Broker, using intimidation and whatnot to get the information necessary for him to be succesful. It has worked quite well since he started too.

Personality: You know that really intelligent guy at school? The good looking one who seems to do multiple things at once? That was Riley. He wasn't the strongest, but he was the smartest, and could get out of almost any situation. He is brave and intelligent, but not all that strong, which is why he wears heavy armor in SAO, to loook stronger than he actually is. But he is also Loyal, and a touch of OCD.

Brief Real Life Background: A promising young American Doctor, Riley had his life ahead of him. He had a Girlfriend, a residency at a large Hospital, and His dreams were coming true. He was also a huge gamer. He Beta tested most games. When SAO finally came out while they were on a trip to Japan, he got a copy, but gave it to his girlfriend, so Riley could play with his brother who had gotten a pirated copy. He and his twin brother went on at the same time, not knowing what lay ahead.

Personality:
Carmilla is one of the last people you would expect in a VRMMO. She isn't particularly interested in video games, especially ones that require a subscription fee and expensive VR machines. Lazy isn't quite the right word to describe her with, more like indifferent or void of optimism. She really doesn't give a damn about much, at least she doesn't act like she does. Even she she speaks, words flow out slowly and seductively like she is putting in minimal effort to talk. Getting on people's nerves' seems to be a specialty of hers, and she has a weird habit of giving people nicknames either to subtly insult them or because she can't be bothered to remember names. Yet at the same time she has a way of attracting people and flirting. She gives off a cool vibe that makes people want to know her.

Brief Real Life Background:
After her parents got divorced Carmilla moved in with her father. But due to his busy work schedule he sent her to a prestigious and uptight boarding school. That's where she met her roommate and best friend Laura. Laura is kind of a nerd, playing video games, watching anime, etc. Carmilla describes her as "adorkable". The two became practically inseparable, except when Laura spends hours playing VRMMO's. In attempt to get Carmilla to play games with her, Laura convinced Carmilla to try out Sword Art Online by using her account.

Game Background:
The first time she entered the game war jarring since she was using Laura's character, Princess Melody. Melody had blond hair with a touch of pink and bright colorful clothes, the complete opposite of Carmilla's black and red wardrobe and dark hair. She didn't understand what the big deal was the first couple times she tried the game, but after some tips and explanations from Laura she started to get the hang of it. But before she knew it the character she borrowed from Laura took on her real appearance and she was locked in the game.

Personality: Rei is a very smart and energetic and friendly kind of girl, who will always be kind to others who she meets she also tends to be very protective over her friends and will do anything she can to protect them. She also has an obsession with anything that is cute and will grab it if she has a chance to, Rei also can be very hardheaded or stubborn and will usually not back down from a fight. When Rei is fighting she is a very fierce combatant in a fight or a duel and if there is a weakness she will try and exploit it and use it to her advantage.

Brief Real Life Background: Rei was born into a small family having a younger half sister and her mother, her father ended up passing away when she was a very young girl. Rei's mother eventually moved on and remarried to high school teacher she eventually gave birth to Rei's half sister named Shino and the two have been inseparable. As Rei got older she started to get more into gaming which she enjoyed a lot when playing with her younger sister. When SAO was first announced Rei quickly got interested in the game, she eventually was invited to the beta test for SAO.

Game Background: After playing through the beta Rei eventually had gotten to one of the upper levels within the beta test getting up as far as the 30th floor before calling it quits so she didn't want to spoil the game for herself. She however didn't have enough money for herself to buy the full game so she pulled some strings with a friend of hers Rei was eventually able to get a pirated version of the game and quickly got into the game itself. When she realized she was not able to log out she got scared, and became very determined to clear the game itself. Rei would spend sometime helping out the lower players through the floors, she would eventually become close friends with some of them, there are rumors that Rei was asked to join The Blood Dragons. Though she was a frontline fighter she preferred to not be a part of that guild after hearing some stories.

Personality: On the outside, he's dark and mysterious. His eyes show a steel determination, never giving up until the end. On the inside, he's a kind soul, always willing to do what he believes is right. Now that he's been trapped within SAO, that is even more true, especially about the news of PK'ers.

Brief Real Life Background: A fairly normal guy. Goes to school, studies, does homework, etc, etc. He graduated high school and got the perfect attendance award, yada yada. Bit of an introvert in real life, but he changes when he plays video games, including even VRMMORPGS. They made him feel... powerful. More in command of life. Naturally, when he heard of Sword Art Online, he was ecstatic, and a bit sad when he didn't get the Beta version, but he quickly got over that.

Other Skills: -Battle Healing: passively regenerates small amounts of HP every few seconds.
-Searching: passive skill that can detect hidden mobs and players.
-(Tracking): modification to the Searching skill that allows a player to follow the path of a mob or player.
-Acrobatics: passive skill that increases ones capability for aerial maneuvers.

Current Weapon: Silver Fang: A rare Kodachi short sword obtained by killing a certain monster after receiving a certain quest.

Current Armour: Obtained by killing a boss. Offers better protection than even a few of the weakest light metal armors, but not by much.

Guild: None.

Play Style (Optional):He prefers to go solo, killing the mobs in his path. He also exercises caution, staying out of an area if he believes it to be too dangerous or if his HP is too low. By combining both martial arts and sword skills, he becomes a formidable foe.

Personality: A bit arrogant and loud, Ann is someone who always pushes herself to be the best at what she does and also pushes others to do the same and, while she can be quite arrogant and confident, it is undeniable the fact that she doesn't like having the spotlight taken away from her, mainly, because she feels lonely. While she encourages others to do their best, it can go either way, as she usually confronts by slapping them with a handful of harsh reality. Ann believes that you cannot advance unless you confront yourself, after all.

Teasing and yet kind, she is quite popular around the floor she is stationed in, given that she runs an inn and blacksmith. She likes giving advice to others in problems and also has an incredibly high moral compass and will not allow anything wrong to get past her, but even so, she is fairly weak in the game, so she uses money and mercenaries to get rid of anything shady. First and foremost, she is a part of the productive side of the players of the Second Server, and so she acts her part. She sells rookie gear and necessary products fairly cheap, but she sells rare and legendary equipment she might create at a higher price than normal, adding effects to them you wouldn't be able to find elsewhere, she needs to make a profit of things, after all.

She can also be pretty aggressive at times, and will answer with a mace to the face should you piss her off in any way, and her fuse is fairly short. Also, don't ask about the eye patch, her short fuse will be even shorter if you ask about it. Ann also often proclaims how she is the world's best blacksmith.

Brief Real Life Background: Hikaru was a college student when she bought SAO. While she wasn't very much into games at the time, her best friend in the Videogame Club of her school, and she was fairly interested on SAO as soon as she heard of it. Hikaru was infected by her friend's enthusiasm, but, unlike her, she didn't have as much money as to buy the Nervegear and SAO at the same time. She bought a pirated copy and went inside, however, it wasn't until later that she learnt that she wasn't even in the same server as her best friend.

Game Background: Ann would have gone crazy hadn't it been for the people who were in despair unlike her. She felt it was her position to help them, and so she did. Using the others as her emotional anchor, she was able to push through all the levels and was able to even get strong enough to farm money. Once she had enough money, she settled down in Floor 30th. There, she owns an inn, a store and a blacksmith shop, following into the steps of her father in real life. She usually helps the frontline with weapons and whatnot, giving away crystals and potions in exchange of any kind of rare material the boss drops that can be used when making weapons or armor. Given her store, she makes a real profit and helps others in lower levels as well.

Naturally brunette with dyed blue hair, Alex stands around five foot, six inches and weighs about 110 lbs. Outside of the game, she was lithe and this actually aided her in-game, allowing her to dodge attacks that would normally kill her.

Personality:
Alex is one of the few people who's personalities in SAO are exactly the same outside the game. Mostly, she's quiet and sticks to herself, taking on the dangerous role of soloing the game and attempting to finish before her party-counterparts can catch up. Just like in the game, she's cold and calculating with little desire to press someone for personal details. Efficiency is what she rates conversations by, and that works for her. It's not that she dislikes talking to others, she does think a certain level of social interaction is necessary to retain sanity, but she just never finds any point in engaging in meaningful conversation with another being.

Within SAO, her cold nature has been weaponised and generally, she's not the type of person you want on your bad-side. Although she's no where near the level of others who would prefer to follow a life of crime in the game, she isn't exactly an angel who you would rush to for aid in a quest or whatnot. For her, the sins she commits are necessary to ensure that people get out of the game. She knows if she ever gets out, she'll be judged by just how harshly she dealt with those who would seek to kill others in the game, but she also knows that her role is a key one. The Grey are efficient but their prison-system doesn't inspire much fear in the criminal underworld. A rogue figure who punishes the guilty, represents fear for those who kill and makes sure that other killers keep living in fear seems to be much more effective.

Some would question how she can kill so easily and the simple answer is that she doesn't feel anything when she kills someone. It can sometimes be terrifying, a very lack of emotions when you should be your most emotional, but she gets through it alright. After a while, killing becomes as natural as riding a bike, only more bloody.

Brief Real Life Background:
Alex's story isn't tragic, nor is it in anyway spellbinding. She was just a girl, with three older brothers, who grew up being the centre of attention but lacking any desire to be anywhere remotely close to that centre. She was shy but not in an awkward way were you can see she wants someone; no, Alex was the curious child who preferred to sit and play in the corner which would preferably be devoid of other people. Her family loved her though, despite her shortcomings and regularly they would spoil her (they were quite rich). Gaming was the life she grew up with because by the very nature of it, it offered somewhere where she didn't have to deal with pesky complex beings. No, all she had to deal with were AI who were predictable, which was precisely what she wanted.

Why she even approached Sword Art Online to be a beta-tester, she still ponders, but once she got into the game and began using Nervegear, everything changed. In SAO, she could be whoever she wanted to be, she could live her life in the real world then log on and lead a completely different life that pitted her against monsters and relied on her ability to succeed. When the game launched, she wasn't quick enough to snatch a copy and by then, she was left desiring for more adventure. The only other option was, of course, to pirate a copy and get into the game.

When it first emerged that they were stuck in the game, she was nearly as distraught as all the other players. The very real possibility of death scared her, even if she was hesitant to admit that. She desired to have a life in the real word, to get a job and make a load of money. She did not intend to die in a game and that was her mentality from the first day. Being a beta-tester, she went on ahead and used her knowledge to get some better gear quickly. Alex knew that it wouldn't be too long until pure panic set in and people began attacking each other. She was right, of course, it was barely even a few days before the killings began and they've never really stopped.

After a few months, she discovered herself to have a bloodlust that demanded to be sated. She wasn't a bad person so she initially felt disgusted even at the thought of permanently ending someone's life. Instead, she turned this new feeling towards the criminal scum of SAO. Her first player-kill was on a guy who hung around the eight level, waiting for weak players with crafting specialisations to wander out into the field before he subsequently murdered them, possibly even making their last few moments a brutal time indeed. The feeling of having someone die by your blade is quite indescribable. First, it was disgust, then it quickly changed to a contempt approval. It was probably there that started the whole mess with The Grey.

That was more skills than I was expecting tbh. I thought there'd be like one or two more... not 7 more. Unfortunately you'll have to weedle it down a lot. Players gain skill slots as they progress and to have 13 after only half a year is a bit insane. You also have no equipment skills which means you can't even wear that armour you have. I'll let you have 4 main and 4 secondary skills, one of which should really be equipment. Given other players are also crafters, you don't really need to have every skill anyway. See what forging skills others pick up and fill the gaps. Sorry to be a kill joy :P

A mountainous 6ft 8, apparently chubby yet actually quite strong. Long brown beard, medium length hair.

Personality:
Never judge a book by its cover, no matter how large or intimidating. Although McBern appears to be a powerhouse of strength and brutality he is in actuality quite pleasant, loving to entertain and care for his fellow Second Server siblings. He quite likes life in SAO and has made the most of his time there, however the behemoth loves not only to relax but to battle. Fighting mobs has become an area in which he excels and has on several occasions fought to defend other members, in keeping with his generous, light-hearted and loyal nature.

Brief Real Life Background:
Bernard McArthur born in Inverness was living and working in London during the incident, as an accounts assessor. His job was boring and unsatisfying, hence the urge to escape into a virtual reality. His parents were very loving, yet sadly died when he was 10, forcing him to live in a carehome where he would eat his way into a 25 stone obesity.

Game Background:
When entering the game, McBern posed as a thin, brown haired man in his late thirties. This was probably a way for Bernie to experience life without the extra weight. However during the first few hours, and the incorporation of true to RL Avatars, his disguise was ruined. His appearance however was the last of his concerns, over the next week McBern farmed a section of grassland on floor 1; killing boars, wolves, wasps, worms, beetles etc leveling up quite significantly. During this first week he stayed at one of Horunka Villages inn's, it was staying here that gave him the idea to set up his very own tavern, off the beaten track, somewhere on higher levels where players could find sanctuary.
Whilst searching for the perfect location McBern was ambushed by a pack of wild bears, led by a rare monster; Ursidae lord of Bears. Defeating the group (and almost dying during the battle) McBern was awarded the rare hammer "Ursidae's Bane" and with it a substantial loot. With this money McBern's Tavern was built on the site of the battle, toward the edge of the Forest of Claws on floor 23. Whilst managing the Tavern, McBern has also garnered a reputation as a Beast-hunter, Front-line warrior and go-to-man for problems concerning undead, beast and insect type mobs. In recent months his battle skills and in-game success have seen him act as a protector and expert of the secretive, mission and dungeon filled 23rd floor.
