You check outside your window as you have heard a car idling outside of your house. You see a sleek limousine at the curb. A knock comes at the door. You open it and waiting for you is a dashing butler dressed gallantly. He bows as you stand there, and before you have a chance to ask who he is, or what it is that he wants, he places before you a soft, ornate red velvet pillow. And placed upon it is a decorative embellished envelope addressed to you, but not indicating who is the sender. You take it, hesitantly, after giving the man a quizzical look. You open it, and find an invitation to a masquerade inside. After a quick cursory scan of it, you look back up at the messenger- a thousand questions buzzing in your head. He gives you a dazzling smile, and bows again. "Your transportation shall be around at 9, to allow you time to get ready," he informs you and clicks his heels together. Quickly he turns on his heels and is retreating before you can ask whom the sender was, or why you. You could try to call out your questions behind him if you'd like, but your questions would only be answered if you attended it would seem.
Do you accept the invitation?Well of course you did! You had nothing planned this evening and it happened to be a Saturday night. Besides, you had quite a few questions buzzing around your empty little head, and you are, after all, a very curious person.
Your limousine pulls up to this splendid luxe mansion, and now your curiosity has piqued. You never knew anyone who was this wealthy, at least you didn't think you did. But what was a little mystery in the face of a masquerade? That was in fact the point of the party wasn't it? Your door is opened by the chauffeur that picked you up promptly at 9 just as promised and you step out into the crisp autumn night in your finery and with whatever grand masque you could find with such little notice (or perhaps you had one just for such an occasion?) and make your way through the gilded iron gate and up the stone steps to massive mahogany double doors. Before you could so much as trouble to make use of an ostentatious knocker or search for a doorbell the doors swing open before you, and a cacophony of music, laughter, and chatter wash over you. You have arrived to what looks to be the party of a lifetime.A band plays somewhere on the first floor, and the jazz music they play fills the first floor with a manic energy that fuels the loud chatter and frantic dancing. Everywhere you look men dressed in the same garb as the butler that delivered your invitation were carrying silver dishes filled with flutes of bubbly champagne or hor d'oeuvres. People around you are dressed in beautiful gowns and sharp tuxedos and their identities are kept tentatively hidden (or not) behind beautifully crafted masques. The ball is in full swing and it has only just begun! Still, you find that you do not know anyone in attendance, which only doubles your confusion. Whose home was this? Who was it that invited you and why? You find your first clue in the foyer, a family portrait that featured its seven seemingly affluent members. Some of them smiled, some kept their gaze level and serious. Perhaps these were the people who invited you? Yet you still did not know who they were. Perhaps they were influential members of high society? Or possibly a family steeped in old wealth?
Never the less you prepared yourself to take full advantage of the generous, although puzzling invitation. And who knows? Perhaps you would learn the answers to your questions along the way.

Welcome to A Sinful Masquerade!
Here's a little peak behind the scenes of what your characters are in for:
The setting of the masquerade is modern day New Hampshire.
The good hosts that invited you to the party happen to be the Seven Deadly Sins- evil personified.
Wrath, Greed, Sloth, Pride, Lust, Envy and Gluttony.
A family of demons that have prowled the Earth and have chosen every year to seek out the sinners and return to Hades with their souls. Invitations were sent out to those which showed an affinity for one of the sins which means seven people were invited, and the rest of the guests in attendance are either souls already damned trying to tempt the invitees into somehow signing their souls over to the Dark Lord himself (thus taking the fallen souls place in the inferno), or angels trying to save them and get them to repent for their affronts against the Creator. The sadistic event begins at 10pm, and at midnight those who do not leave will find that any exits or windows that they should try and attempt to leave cannot be opened, or broken. And the windows that can be used are located very high up in the mansions tower, and the use of these for escape would almost surely result in death. The invitees will all be instructed to stay on the main floor and indulge themselves endlessly, but for those curious, or led by a sneaky spirit or sin, the mansion holds all sorts of wicked rooms. Ranging from torture chambers, rooms with seemingly no entrance or exit, a sinful person's wet dream, or worst nightmare. There are all sorts of ways to break one's spirit and get them to join the dark side, so tread carefully and explore at your own risk!

CHARACTER INFORMATION
As previously mentioned I have essentially 14 characters that can be "claimed" essentially, and then you have the option of playing a Damned Spirit or an Angel. Anyone person can control as many characters as they feel as they can handle, but I would ask that in the beginning stages of this roleplay that you will try and select either one Sin or one Sinner (this allows everyone to have a shot at one of these fairly) and then as many DS's or Angel's as you wish (go nuts! The more the merrier! No seriously...). Of course, as the roleplay progresses if there are remaining Sins or Sinners I will of course try and fill these spots as best I can or create sort of NPC community dictated type characters until someone is willing to take them on.
Something to keep in mind! The Sins will have some abilities to aid them in their mission of corrupting the Sinners into eternal damnation, but these abilities must relate to what they personify. Example: Lust could potentially have the ability to transform themselves into whatever it is that whoever looks upon them desires most. Wrath has extraordinary, inhuman strength, etc. etc. Use your creativity here. But don't get too carried away either! Now, as for the DS and the Angels sorry! But your only powers here are your powers of persuasion! This is the Sins party, therefore it is the Sins playground.
This is what you will be filling out~
(Picture or Character Description)
Name:Age:(exact if you are a sinner character please! DS, Sins, and Angels please put what age you appear to be, exact age is not necessary)
Role:(Sinner, Sin, DS, or Angel and if you are a Sinner/Sin please specify which one eg."Sinner/Lust". DS this is optional)
Abilities:(This applies exclusively to the Sins, sorry everyone else!)
Personality:(obvious, but remember if you are a Sinner, Sin, or DS your personality should reflect the sin you represent)
Bio:(one to two paragraphs please just to get an idea of your character and all!)

RULES:
Of course all the standard stuff, you're not babies you get the gist!
Please try to be fairly active! It's sort of a bigger group of people (or at least I hope it will be!) so the more you post the more we can really get the plot moving.
Remember this is a roleplay centered around sin and sadism so I expect it to get explicit (encourage it!) of course within the site's guidelines. Cursing is fine but let's try and keep the really offensive stuff (you know like slurs and explicitly sexual content) out of this roleplay. It's a horror roleplay not a smut magazine alright?
Also! If there is any specific Sin or Sinner that you would like to reserve as you work on the profile for them then that is fantastic! Please consider sending a private message to me, that way I can make it public knowledge that you are holding that character. However! I think it only fair to hold the character for up to SEVEN BUSINESS DAYS (Monday through Friday people). I think that this is more than enough time to crank out at least a rough draft of your profile while accounting for your busy schedules. Otherwise the character will be back up for grabs.
Also, keep in mind that there are deaths in this roleplay, and only of the Sinners. So! If you are the Sinners respective Sin, or a DS please, please, please make sure that you are coordinating with the Sinner if/when there character will die. Same goes for Angels (hey, some people don't want to be saved).
Any other questions ask me!
"Idle hands are the Morning Star's tools, the idle mind his workshop, the idle soul his clay."
Acedia
Timeless Anthropomorphic Embodiment of Self-Annihilation
Sloth, unlike the other Sins, is too devoid of any sense of self to create an avatar of its own. Instead, it may possess the bodies of the sleeping, the absent, and the dead - only resting on consecrated ground or being watched over by a divine guardian can protect the restive soul from the grasp of Sloth. Alternatively, Sloth is unable to possess the bodies of those resting within structures or sites that Sloth's essence is not currently occupying. Existing more as a force than as an entity, Sloth may possess as many individuals at a time as are available within any single structure (Sloth and the individuals it possesses may freely move between sites regardless of this limitation). Those possessed by Sloth, along with the essence of the sin itself, cannot trespass upon holy ground. The sleeping mind alone does not define the limit of Sloth's reach, and it may additionally possess the bodies of individuals who have entered a trance-like state or similar form of stupor, and even corpses devoid of life.
Those possessed by Sloth move with unknown drive and purpose, but all appear to have heightened sensory awareness beyond what the host body would normally be capable of. Possessed individuals can only be awakened by fire, intense heat, or electrical shocks (even in the case of possessed corpses, though these will momentarily recover as there is no consciousness to awaken - only destroying the body or else burying it in consecrated ground will prevent it from rising) - mere physical injury, loud noises, and bright light will fail to awaken the possessed.
All possessed hosts will naturally awaken after a regular allotted time spent sleeping as is normal for them, depending upon their particular sleeping habits. Those possessed by Sloth experience uneventful, dreamless, timeless stasis. Assuming they are not injured while possessed, they will awaken fully rested and without any physical fatigue.
Sloth, lacking a personality per-se, is still a malevolent abyssal force which actively works to damn human souls and disturb the fabric of the world. In keeping with its nature, Sloth uses highly arcane, indirect, and subtle machinations to punish any who are foolish enough to follow the path of least resistance while also sowing weakness and frailty. Its foremost tool in the corruption of human purity is suicide, manipulating and distorting the circumstances and environments of its chosen victims in order to coerce them into giving up in despair, destroying the work, effort, and potential inherent in their mind, body, and soul. Sloth has been known to use poison, drugs, blackmail, and lies in order to weaken the wills of its victims. Although it has no intelligence of its own that would enable others to pursue such tactics, Sloth has an intrinsic affinity for sources of despair and doubt that it automatically exploits, occasionally without context, which even enables it to sometimes attack the resolve of Humans with fears and doubts they never knew they had.
Name: Edgar Pennyworth
(Real Name: Bradford Pennyworth)
Age: 23
Role: Sinner/Envy
Personality: Distant, and even rude to others, Edgar has a cold demeanor that is hard to approach, showing arrogance wherever he goes. This is only an act, however, as Bradford is only mimicking his brother's mannerisms. His true self is that of a weak, hateful man, forever standing in the shadow of his superior brother.
Bio: Born as identical twins, Bradford and Edgar were the heirs to a great business empire, and were destined to become the tycoons of a new generation. While the two of them were impossible to differentiate by simply looking at them, there is a clue only known by the family: Bradford has a hidden birth mark on his back Edgar dors not have.
As the day their father died and it was time for the twins to take over, the brothers were not content to share the wealth. The conflict resolved, however, when Bradford was betrayed by his twin Edgar as he stole his inheritance, and cast him out of the Pennyworth estate. Edgar spread vile lies and gossip of Bradford, tarnishing his name irreparably. Bradford had to continue living with his small fortune he amassed before his exile, while Edgar grew in fame and glory.
Bradford was puzzled after having received the invitation to a mysterious masquerade: no friend or relative should have known where he was now living, he made certain of that. However, this gave him an idea. Bradford decided to take an additional mask with him: the identity of Edgar Pennyworth, his famous and oh-so popular twin brother. After all, extravagant balls require the attendance of extravagant people...
Awesome! I have updated the character list and reservations accordingly as well as put the profiles over there! I would like to wait for maybe one or two more people who are interested in joining us before we begin? And then I'll go ahead and throw the first post up to get the ball rolling
"I don't know how to put this but, I'm kind of a big deal."
Name:
Naomi Phillips
Age:
Naomi appears to be in her twenties.
Role:
Sin - Pride.
Abilities:
Naomi is very good at manipulating one's mind. She has the unique gift of Persuasion, sort of speak. But for her abilities to work, she has to be looking her culprit directly into the eyes and cannot break contact or concentration, at all. Naomi also cannot be caught in this state of mind for too long or she'll be unconscious for awhile.
Personality:
At first glance, Naomi made seem very shy and innocent but she is not like that, at all. She is very arrogant and cocky with herself and is sometimes overconfident. She is a blunt female that will bash others with a few choice words and make them feel absolutely low about themselves. Overall, Naomi doesn't really care about no one but herself and when she opens up her mouth, she'll let it be known.
If I were to make an 'angel' (the City Council tells me angels aren't real) could it align itself with one of the seven heavenly virtues?
There's no rule saying you can't! Although the rules do state that, while in Human form, angels don't get any spectacular powers - they'd have to combat the Sins using mere moral support.
I myself am planning on making an Angel character, but even with two I think they'll have their work cut out for them.
Reserve Sin/Lust for me please?
EDIT: lol, excuse my low post count. I hopped over from another forum looking for more active and varied RPs, and I'm glad I found this.
And question: with Lust, are you looking for sexual desire or lust could be of power, knowledge, etc?

Absolutely! Feel free to do so! I apologize because I was ignorant to the seven heavenly virtues, but I will do some research and consider updating the rules and character information accordingly if I feel I need to. But yes feel free to do so!
@Fillet
I will go ahead and reserve that for you! I am glad you found this as well! I think this will be a super fun roleplay, especially as it gets going! And Lust is pretty heavily associated with bodily pleasures- but it does depend on how you write it! You just have to be careful that you don't cross in to the other Sin's territory, if you know what I mean! But I think if you do it well you could accomplish it.
Also! We have pretty much no sinners and we totally need those to really get going! I will get a first post up ASAP! I promise!
Name: Lust
Age: 30
Role: Sin/Lust
Abilities: Can sense/know the level and type of desire in someone, gradually tap into their well of fantasies; transform into whatever physical body the victim wants and produce vivid illusions/reality of the kind; whisper words of temptation that sound irresistible; every touch is undeniably pleasurable.
Personality: Lust has no gender, psychologically or physically, although, depending on what’s in season in the age it’s in, or the type of crowd it’s in, it can take on a stunning male or female form or any kind of creature necessary. It melds into whatever kind of personality the chosen victim most desires; Lust is the most well-liked and sociable even by and among its siblings. Lust is a person only in relation to someone else. There’s no sharply defined and constant personality and as such is more akin to Sloth in essence despite appearing more like its other siblings. It is cultured and knowledgeable only to the degree of necessity, to what’s needed to seduce and entrap its victim.
Bio: Born out of a frenzy of carnality as old as the first soul, Lust loves the dance of life and the sick, twisted, hellish - exciting, grand, heavenly - pleasures the world has to offer. It has no morals, no judgment, no boundaries. It delights in what the chosen mortal enjoys, it indulges the willing victim by taking them farther than the fringes of their wildest fantasies; it teases wickedly, locking the mortal in a vicious spiral of wanting and having, inching closer and closer to the climax when they scream and beg in tears and sweat for Lust to have their soul. But Lust is never satisfied by the soul(s) it takes, its gratification is always just a hair’s breadth away and never reached, so it’s ever onwards preying for the next life. It has one of, if not the, highest number of souls count. Lust enjoys the game, the more seemingly difficult it is, the more enticed it is to corrupting their soul.
Name: Caritas
Appeared Age: 21
Role: Angel/Charity
Abilities: N/A
Personality: To use the word 'nice' to describe Caritas is such an understatement, so much so that some would call it a sin, but Charitas would forgive you. The androgynous angel had fully adopted a demeanor so simple and kind that even Christ himself viewed the charity the angel has displayed as admirable. Caritas has a very childlike demeanor and optimism in regards to interaction with the world.
Bio: Caritas, unlike Corbel, is not an angel descended from the Divine Being, but instead is an innocent soul ascended to the rank after experiencing a mortal death.
Caritas was born with earthly name of Tyler Junius in Louisiana several decades ago. His human life was one filled with hardship, his family was poor, his mother was a drug addict, and his father an abusive narcissist-- he was not baptized, as his father was such a pagan that he worshiped himself. A young Tyler was not introduced to Christ until his 8th year on earth, when a Christian relative gifted him with a children's bible. It was through this single act of kindness and charity that, on Tyler's 9th year on earth, when he perished in a house set ablaze by his father's arrogance, that they young boy's soul was saved.
The decades since have seen Tyler cast aside his human name and accept Caritas, a name fitting the angelic qualities of one who was saved through charity and kindness, and now serves as a guardian angel to those who might be known to God through their own selfless acts. Urania, an angel representing the charity of Holy Spirit, sent Caritas to the party, to find and save any souls who might open their hearts to God through the altruism in their hearts.

"..."
Name: James Smith
Age: 32
Role: Sinner/Sloth
Abilities: N/A
Personality: A lack of personality best describes James' personality. Be it society, his own depression, or the forces of the embodiment of Sloth acting on his soul, something has numbed him to a point where he doesn't really feel emotions, he just occasionally leaves the state of apathy that his mind exists in 90% of the time. He is a sad, depressed individual-- someone who has been on the edge for too long-- and he acts in stereotypical accordance to this.
Bio: What life? The existence James has begun to lead is hardly one worth recounting. After college he began to work-- and that is where James life now remains. Trapped in a purgatory created by his own lack of ambition, he puts little into earning barely enough money to keep himself alive and even less into his own enjoyment when he isn't working. Truth be told, James doesn't know where he got the energy to come to the party-- a certain voice in the back of his head perhaps?

"I ain't gonna mess with THAT"
Name: Marcus Junius
Appeared Age: 40
Role: Damned Spirit/Pride
Abilities: N/A
Personality: Marcus is a bastard. He was the type of person, in life, who became consumed by greed and anger but became an embodiment of megalomania to those around them. Decades spent burning in the fires of hell have only worsened his ego. He has no faults-- he is only in hell because God himself cannot compare to the glory that is Marcus, the fires that scorched his skin black have strengthened his resolve and belief in himself-- and that he embodies his sin so well has only bloated his ego further. He is the best soul to ever be, and others should strive to be like him.
Bio: Marcus Junius, the image of perfection and goodness, has been burning in the hottest fires of hell, for, 50 years? It doesn't matter much. The man is too proud to admit his wrongdoing in life. Even the depths of the 9th level do nothing to harm his stubborn resolve. In that way, he is strong. The pain he feels is nothing to admitting that he has sinned, that he was.
Marcus Junius was raised on Louisianan Voodoo, and continues to believe and practice his pagan magic. Voodoo, and the deal he made, is what put him in the fire.
Quite simply, in a test of vanity, Marcus Junius summoned a pagan spirit and asked to be made more powerful than God himself. It didn't turn out so well.
His skin is black from the fires that have only strengthened his belief that he is a god, and the tattoos that adorn his body are to remind him of the false religion he continues to follow.
I have updated the Character slots so that they are filled accordingly and added the profiles! Thanks guys~!
[quote=@Darcs]
Alright! As you update your WIP's I will modify your character entry in the character list.
For an Angel, Corbel is something of a massive prick. Unlike Caritas, he does not appear to be associated with the Heavenly Virtues except incidentally. He is an Angel of the First Sphere, operating directly under one of the Archangels themselves. He is an Old Testament Angel, and as such does not conform to modern interpretations of Angelic Beings. His true form is not a winged humanoid, but an eldritch complex that most would mistake as a Horrorterror from the Furthest Ring. He is also decidedly not nice. Or gentle. Or a pacifist. The best words to assign his person would be, 'Merciless, Exigent, Harrowing.'
He appears to have been sent to the Manor separately to Caritas in a case of the right hand not knowing what the left is doing. His objectives are markedly different, and the means he is willing to employ more varied...and extreme.
