Basic InformationName: Mai Vu
Nickname/Alias/Etc: Stubborn/Crazy/general terms to do with the term "stubborn". Personalized nickname of "Imagineer" made up by her brother.
Gender: F
Age: 19
Height: 5'9''
Weight: 125 lbs.
Type: Versatile in Classification - Listed under Other/Cerebral | Subcategorized into "Will"
AppearanceHair Color: Black
Eye Color: Silver
Ethnicity: Mixed Asian Descent - (Partial European mixed in)
Physical Appearance: Mai's physical appearance has a partial result from her own ability. Long onyx hair stops at the small of her back and can end up covering a large portion of her face -- eyes included -- if she doesn't brush it out of the way, skin paler than the average person due to not going outside often, and eyes carrying that almond-shaped trait that most Asian genetics bring display a rare silver over more common colors such as brown or hazel. A somewhat-tall, lanky appearance combined with these can make her seem a bit ghost-like in first glance -- contradicting her personality to an extreme with how outwardly she can be in speaking to people. Stature is a bit taller than normal with a 5'9'' height (she can actually reach that top shelf!), and she remains at a weight that leaves her frame light to go with a height gained from her father's genetics.
Attire: Try for that popular "lolita" style. A black top-hat with a ribbon that flows at the back adorns her head, and can be seen time to time filled with things such as loose change, pencils, etc. A fleece cloak adorns her shoulders, with pockets inside to keep things such as her wallet, cell, a pocketbook, basic utility things. Underneath her cloak, to contradict the black, is a white dress that hits the knees with matching stockings. Many frills, many laces, far too flashy to wear out consistently -- but she does it anyways! And to top it off? Boots with platformed heels, for a single purpose: boosting her height up since she's
kinda short.
PersonalityInnate & Outward Personality:The outward personality of Mai is that of a determined, chipper girl. Always ready to listen, always ready to talk, always ready to listen. She wants to take on the role of "therapist" for those that need the talk or chatter or just let out those problems. She's the "helpful" one, or at least wants to be -- yes, she's that girl who would go out of her way to give a hobo some change if she had any on her, or share some food. On the surface, she's just a normal teenager with an intense desire to see to the health of others. Some might even call her a bit bubbly (or air-headed if you want to be rude), with how easily she'll respond to a person in need.
It carries over with her mental state as well. She's the kind of person that's looking at the cup as being "half-full", and she tries
really hard to keep that good hope and happy feels up. She's worried more about how other people are doing than herself at times, which can lead to some unfortunate scenarios when she forgets any of her own limits. She's a straight-forward optimistic person at head and at mind, and she's
extremely stubborn because of it when put into bad situations -- hence her general plethora of nicknames relating to being a "stubborn ass girl" or "a crazy person" for having faith in the near-impossible or otherwise horrible chances.
A note of mention to have -- she hates medication. Anti-depressants or sleeping pills, things of that nature, will cause her to
bite, claw, scratch, and tear at whoever's trying to medicate her at the time.
Hobbies/Interests: Eating and cooking Japanese sweets to satisfy her sweet tooth | Reading video game strategy guides | Compulsive need to collect strawberry-shaped/flavored/themes objects/food/toys/jewelry | Keeping a therapy journal |
Chasing after fluffy animals | Reading up on animes/mangas/cartoons of her taste when she has the chance
Skills/Talents: A great listener -- she's always urging people to try and talk to her about any stressful things | Analysis - she can notice the little things that people overlook often. | Lying - Sometimes she just
needs to tell them that everything will be okay, even if she aren't sure herself. It doesn't mean she's necessarily good at lying to other people...She's just really good at lying to
herself. | Memorization - Not applicable to much else, but she can quote pages out of cheat guides for anything you could be playing. Sony game? Got it. Nintendo? Already inputting the button combination. MMOs? Let her show you that awesome farming spot she found on day one.
Prized Possession: A Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate Edition lanyard on her neck that contains three objects: a Persona Tarot Card keychain, a Velvet Room Key keychain, and a key to her old house. Yes, this is
incredibly specific.

"Two pills to take all of the pain away. One pill to make it stay. No pills every day will make you stronger -- what do you say?"History/Bio:Mai Vu -- born of a family that had long-before developed powers that extended beyond normal human capacity. Her family was renowned for being a stubborn bunch, and it showed for the series of unfortunate circumstances that occurred throughout their years. Her mother? An addict that managed to
forcibly detain her need for drugs. Her father?
A major in the military that survived shots that would have otherwise killed a normal man through the sheer will to live on and see his kids. Her brother?
A serving soldier that's avoided death through "pure luck". And for her?
Well, a bit more on daddy dearest's side, actually.
Her family was actually a bit on the poor side to begin with, kicked out of their house and put on the streets thanks to a shitty family appraisal of where to store money in the event of a break-in. So for a while, they had to get by on whatever that they could scrounge up. They built up what they could, living in a shelter for the homeless until they could finally get out of there. Mai thusly grew up without the spoiled concepts of life -- she was hard worker, she liked the little things, she liked the simple things. Just like a normal kid with a few unfortunate circumstances. But it wasn't the home that was the problem, or the fact that she couldn't get many of the things that she wanted -- people couldn't always get what they wanted. The problem here lied within her mother.
Deteriorating health came in the form of a brain condition -- a minor level of cancer that they simply didn't have the money to afford trying to cure. As it progressed, she got worse. As she got worse, their family got more desperate. Exo's father went into the military to try and send money home -- money that helped them get a smaller home, move out of that shelter, even provide with getting Mai and Sage through high school. Her brother became the "man of the house" and she in turn became a "nursing" sort for her mother once they were able to admit her into the hospital without many worries of medical bills to try and keep her healthy to the best of her abilities.
Speaking of abilities. This is what let her own ability awaken -- but at a poor price. As she spent time, her mother would start getting better. Signs of her brain fighting off the cancer cells would come as Mai cared for her mother, but with it was the price of her own health.
As her mother's brain recovered, Mai became more unstable. From smiles and sunshine, to an utter despair that drained her more and more. Grades became lower, the desire to go out of the house died out day by day, and she soon found herself pointing a knife to her throat or braiding up a noose for her neck without realizing it. With her brother suggesting that he take over caring for their mom for a while, it became apparent that she was the cause and effect of both her mother's recovery and her deterioration once scans of her brain came in once more.
One mere week of Mai being gone and the cancer cells began moving again at the rate that they had before she had started staying at the hospital more.
The test of this came time and time again, and doctors even came to the point of examining her brain waves as she stayed near her mother to get an understanding of what was going on. Results came in with a straight-forward answer: her brain waves spiked, surged at drastic rates as she came to a point of what could be considered a "suicidal state", even inducing something akin to an out-of-body experience as she sat with her mother. In return, these waves seemed to reach out to her mother's own brain and stimulated them in a manner that induced the healthy cells to begin producing faster to out-do the cancer cells trying to take over. Without medical profession able to explain the phenomenon to promote such sudden enhanced development in the body by her mere presence, or the rapid deterioration of her own psyche as she stayed close, results were sent off to several professionals to investigate the problem.
And that's how she came to be
inducted? abducted? visited by a NEST representative. The effect that she was able to place in the body of another being was not natural, and they wished to explore what she seemed to be able to do -- and provided reasoning under the government mandate that any Meta-humans -- potential, or otherwise confirmed -- needed to attend the Academy in order to train and harness their abilities for both their own benefit and for the benefit of others.

Abilities Power Class: Cerebral/Other
Power: A Will To LiveMai's ability is the creation and outwards extension of psionic waves from her own brain programmed to induce bodily enhancements towards others via inducing extensive work, reproduction, or otherwise "buffs" towards the brain, nerves, and cells to force changes. The creation of these bolstering effects are fueled off of a literal "will to live", taking parts of her psyche as payment as she uses her ability. She could induce rapid cell regeneration in the body of another, bolster their muscles to make them more durable or hit harder, insinuate better reflexes by hastening the rate in which the brain is able to process information and act accordingly upon it, and even provide beneficial augmentations to the natural five senses.
Limits:- Mai cannot use her abilities on herself, at all. It just won't work, no matter what she tries.
- There is a range in which her abilities work. As she loses the will that fuels her abilities, this range decreases. Should she ever reach a "breaking point", she could only induce minor enhancements through touch alone.
- She is not physically strong, and not good at taking hits. If the "back line" are infiltrated, she's rather vulnerable.
Weaknesses/Drawbacks: - Continued usage of her ability over long spans of time damages her psyche, causing symptoms similar to a coma or driving her a point of literal insanity.
- Because her ability is based on a "will to live", stressful or hopeless situations are heavily disadvantageous to her. The less hope she that she can survive something or
wants to survive something, the less effective her powers will be
and the more they will damage her mind.
- Abilities that effect that mind negatively can effectively "neuter" her, giving her an innate weakness to other psionic/cerebral abilities.
- Medication can effect her ability. Anti-depressants, botax, or pills/liquids that can raise or lower her brain activity/"emotional stature" can increase or decrease the effectiveness of her ability.

Sample Post:"Well that won't do. Alright, I'll go get the poor thing up and off of there."A calm tone, a calm manner of carrying oneself, and a problem that should be left to someone that wasn't wearing a dress and outrageous boots. There Mai went, motioning a few bystanders to help her out with the problem that had a few neighbors at hand. She'd been packing to go, with an unfortunate update that her mother had slipped into a coma as a result of the cancer, but with her brother pushing her to go under the pretense of getting better at this "brain game" thing she had going on. If she could control it, then perhaps she could make her mom's cancer go away? She didn't know about it, but it was better than not trying at all, so she had been just about ready to leave her home to him under the pretense that he didn't burn the damned building down trying to cook-
And there was the neighbor's cat, Cookie, stuck on the roof of the house two doors down from her own.
Seriously, who even let their cat get stuck in a tree anymore, much less a roof?
Regardless, Mai couldn't leave the poor thing up there -- especially because it was just such a
fluffy fat cat. With that in mind, she was simply compelled to try climbing up the side of the building to get the poor thing. It looked easy on TV when firefighters or teens around her age did it, so it shouldn't be too hard to do in her current get up-
THUD.Okay, correction. In her get-up, trying to climb up a two story building from the side only resulted in her falling on her ass. And a 5-minute break to try and brush off the grass and leaves that fell on her in her attempt to get up on the roof. Maybe it was a good thing she fell...Better from the lower half and on the dirt than the roof itself and a nice french kiss with the cement.
"...Hm. Okay, climbing isn't going to work- ...WAIT A MINUTE. I HAVE AN IDEA!" Duh. It was a cat. A fat freaking cat at that. With a strike of genius, Mai demanded that the owner go out of their way to bring out any kind of treats they opted into feeding the overweight feline for the sake of getting it down. Her words of inspiring courage for the matter when they questioned the point of bringing out a can of tuna?
"Trust me. I'm a teenager."Now, under any normal circumstances, this would never have worked. But for a girl with odd habits, odder dressing, and even odder methods, something such as throwing bits of tuna up at the cat to make the poor thing come following and eating bit after bit eventually landed the fatass on her body -- and subsequently her falling down once again -- as the feline made a
literal leap of faith from the top of the roof in order to reach more of the savory fish treat for the sake of filling up its gut. Once she was able to get up and actually hold the cat without it attacking her fingers for the lingering smell of dead, packaged fish, she presented it in a way not unlike a proposal to the elderly woman who happened to own it.
"Now, now. There we are. Please try to not lose this fluffy guy again, okay? I'm going to be gone for a while, Mrs. Schmidt. If he does go up on the roof, my brother will have to get him."And that was her eventful "farewell" from the quiet neighborhood before she went pack to get her luggage and get her ass on the road.
