Had this question brought up to me earlier today being as Mystique is a shape-shifter can she be a father? What do you think?

You know, I've been thinking about this for one of my role plays. I have a shape shifter, gender unknown to most people. I've been thinking what would happen if I wanted them to have a child.

I think it depends on their BIRTH gender. Therefore, if they were born female then they can become pregnant but if they aren't then they cannot provide the sperm to get another female pregnant, and vice versa for male-they can be a father but not a mother.

This is simply due to the fact that you may be able to change physical shape, but things like hormones would be harder without a complete blood transfer and that would just be ridiculous.

@Espacole I would presume not given most iterations of her. That would require a level of genetic manipulation we've never seen her use. And if she were capable of such then there would be no reason she couldn't copy a genetic power as well. Which she has never done. Shapeshifting gives you the form of another thing. Transformation turns you into another thing.

In the Earth-797 reality, Mystique is apparently a man and goes by the name of Raphael-Raven Darkholme (and his alias is Mystiq). Much like the main Mystique, he has a relationship with Destiny but due to his gender has a child with her (Claremont's original plan for Nightcrawler's origin). They are both killed in unknown circumstances and Raphael often goes to their grave sites. On such an occasion, he is about to be attacked by soldiers when the Exiles' Sabretooth, who had been stranded on this Earth, saves his life. Saying he is in his debt, he joins the Exiles when they come to pick up their teammate.

Now on that note can a character be from another reality due to a power malfunction?
