Furnace wanted to try this wonder thing.
He chose a random stand and walked up to it.
He could't see what was on the table but as he looked up he saw the strangest thing hanging from the tarp hanging over the stand.
It was a long wooden staff ending in a circle. In the circle a weave made of tightly spun rope was attached.
It made him think of the spider's webbing. The handle and shape suggested the staff was a tool for some job or function.
Furnace was dying to know what it was. He stepped back so he could meet the shop keepers gaze.
He pointed up at the butterfly net as he stood there in shabby rags and bare feet. His appearance suggested he couldn't buy anything here,
but Furnace didn't know that. With utmost concentration Furnace looked at the shop keep and shouted "How Much!"

Startled by the shouts of Furnace, the shopkeep jumped and screamed a bit. After regaining his calm, he looked to where the gnome was pointing and saw the net, "Oh that, that would be 10 gold pieces."

Separ

Separ frowned at the price, but reluctantly decided it would be better to have a medkit than to not have one at all. "40 gold pieces was it?" Said Separ as he pulled out some coins, only to realize he didn't have enough. "Umm, I only have 32 gold pieces..." His words trailed off realizing he wasn't going to be able to afford the medkit. "It looks like I may be forced to buy that at a later time, thanks for the other supplies though." Said Separ as he began to walk off towards the door.

The female merchant called out to Separ, "Wait kid, 30 will be just fine. Some money is better than no money."

Separ

"Huh, you really mean it?" Asked Separ in shock. "I mean, yes that would be great, though are you sure about all of this, after all you're not getting the full price of what it's worth, and someone else might come in later and by it for the full price of 40?" Separ asked her.

"Kid, when do you think some other naïve adventurer is going to come in here and buy it, the people in this town don't go on adventures."

Separ

"But... didn't you just say this item was in high demand?" Separ's brow furrowed as he realized he was being lied to. "You have been lying to me this whole time haven't you? Sell me this medkit at a price of 15 or I'm leaving."

"The item isn't in high demand, but you are in high demand of it with your pack of 8, 25 pieces or walk kid because I'm not going lower."

Separ

Separ thought about her offer for a moment, but then had a 'brilliant' idea. "25 pieces and a date!" He exclaimed proudly, hoping it would cause her to stumble and lower the price. He wasn't actually expecting her to take him up on the offer, and he figured it was worth a shot. "Either that or 20 pieces."

"I told you kid, I'm not going lower, so 25 and a date it is, now I get the 25 and a free meal, but good luck treating me anywhere on 7 gold."

Separ

Separ glanced around nervously and then sighed, defeated. "You were supposed to say 'No way am I going out with you, just take the medkit for 20 and get out.'" Separ fumbled with his money and paid her the 25 gold, and then handed her the last seven gold pieces as well. "Just keep it." And with that he began to leave the store, totally crushed, and without any money for himself.

Succes! The first stage of the ritual was going without a hitch.
Furnace pulled out the fat sack of coins and reach in to count and take 10 coins exactly.
He checked again to be absolutely sure he had the right amount, then placed the coins on the counter and waited in exited anticipation to see if it would work.

As Vis tightened the scarf around his face, he turned to address the others when he saw the gnome had wondered off to a stall to the north. Vis naturally went to make sure he didn't get into any mischief, as the paladin seemed to entrust Vis with the task of watching the gnome and he didn't want to be on the armored hulk's bad side.

Vis crouched by the gnome's side and looked up at the butterfly net, "so you want the net..." he dragged off at the end of the sentence, not having a name to call the gnome, "ask him how low he's willing to go." whispered Vis into the small man's ear, as he snatched the coins from the counter before the vendor could get his grubby hands on them.

Before Vis could manipulate the exchange, the merchant grabbed the gold, and handed Furnace the net.

-Ignore this, Vis just ninja'd me with his update

To Furnace's surprise there was a hidden element to the ritual.
The recloacked man corrected him but he didn't know why. The man behind the table seemed to have no problem with the way he was chanting.
He suggested an incantation returning a riddle.
Perhaps this was an advanced form of magic. A ritual using less materials didn't seem like logical step up.
Then again, some materials needed to smelt longer at lower temperatures. Maybe this was similar.
In the same way, only slightly more confused, Furnace shouted his incantation at the shopkeep.
"How low are you willing to go?"

Once again startled by the shouting, the merchant jumped again but not as high this time. Once again regaining himself, he looked at Vis and looked back at Furnace, "Still 10 gold pieces, I'm not going lower on a net."

Vis looked back at the gnome and tightened up his scarf, "wath and learn." Vis scanned the stall of it's wares, looking for something to add into the deal, he spotted a bobbin of thread, looking up to the vendor Vis spoke, "throw in tha bobbin and conthider ith a deal." he returned to the gnome and whispered in his ear, "if a vendor is unwilling to go lower, try add something else to the deal but at a lower price."

Based on the reactions of the merchant and the recloacked man Furnace guessed he had messed something up.
He looked with large sad eyes at Vis, then at the merchant, then at Vis again.
"Now what?"

"A bobbin of twine and a net for 10 gold, hell, why not?" The merchant holds out his hand to the gnome, waiting to be paid.

Furnace nodded and handed the man the golden sheets.
He wondered who hell was, but he or she didn't interrupt him when he gave the gold.
The ritual seemed complete as Furnace accepted the net in return and held it aloft in wonder.
What magics could this staff hold?
"Now we do the same with.. bread.. right?"
Furnace tried to imagine what bread was. The words sounded like broad. So he expected it to be flat and heavy, like a broadsword.
