Hmmm... If it's "Modern" City, somehow I think it should probably be kind of... Progressive, if that makes sense? Like, all shiny and high tech and not having much in the way of slums and social divide and stuff like that. Might be interesting to make it so that there wasn't much in the way of crime or tension before the accident, too, and have the meta-humans serve as a catalyst for basically all the potential drama of the RP.

Just an idea though, I guess. ^^;

I agree with Run, though I kind of like it if we implement some form of social difference/unfairness where there are those that are very rich and lives in the center of the city, but that there also exists a darker aide behind all this glimmer and money:the poor that reside in some form of poorer district (or slum).

Though the idea that the accident set off a series of events that created a bigger social divide is awesome.

E: As for ideas, I'll just throw in probably the most cliched one of all, but one that seems to work a lot; an evil corporation. Considering someone already suggested big time corporations, then it would be logical to assume that one of them would be willing to use the emergence of metahumans to their leverage. Plus, what's a superhero tale without an Oscorp-ish villain pulling strings in the background?Hell, you could even link them to the government and portray the system as partially corrupted. I'm trying to slink in a Daredevil-inspired character, kind of an underdog that works in a small scale but switches to a more nationwide one by the start of the RP, so that would benefit me a lot.

And hey, if you need any ideas, let me know. This is going to be my first and only RP, so as to avoid being overwhelmed, so it's safe to say I'm gonna be available a lot.

If there's a big, shadowy corporation in the background, why not make them less generically corrupt and more well-intentioned extremists? Like... Well, I at least know that Double will know what I'm talking about if I say Yggdrasil at least. XD ...Thinking about it, Zawame City is basically a good idea of what I would go for in terms of setting, but hmmm.

And... I dunno, maybe it's just me that thinks this but any kind of social commentary in this should probably come from the plot focus (ie. the metahumans) rather than any existing corruption really. ^^;

Alright so we've got... rival corporations (instead of full on corruption we could tone them down to just being shady?), a big Modern City Academy as the main school, some kind of mountain landmark (might be a little strange in a coastal town but I think I can do it still), and definitely a laboratory of some kind within the business district.

Now, next question: What about people? Any kind of important or celebrity figures you'd like me to focus on? The mayor, perhaps? Maybe a local rock band or something that's popular with all the kids? Any other educational facilities such as colleges or the like that I should take into consideration?

I'm really the digging the idea of cooperatively building the setting, right now. Got the idea from a tabletop RPG called FATE.

Anyway, to answer an earlier question, I was intending this to be set in present day. Unless of course there's enough consensus to set it in a different era?

Sometimes it's nice to have a reasonable authority figure, so I'd suggest that the mayor at least isn't corrupt. Maybe some of their lower downs could be, but yeah.

Kind of want to suggest a scientist who has morally and ethically dubious thoughts about the meta-humans, and maybe an outspoken local preacher who thinks that they're... Some kind of sign from God, although not sure whether it would be for good or ill. Hmmm. Just random ideas, I guess. ^^;

There totally needs to be a local rock band that started to get more media attention when one of their members was outed as a meta-human, though.

Definitely need a rock band, any good RP needs a one! Plus someone could play the meta-human band member, you know, just for the fun of the others meeting a celebrity? ^^

I'm liking the idea of a cult built around metahumans. Misguided people who believe metahumans are messengers of God and engage in sacrificial rituals, causing the metahumans to address it at one point - would make a good Arc premise.

CLARKERS
The term is based on the name of Arthur C. Clark author of the book "Childhood's End" which is story that revolves around children around the world who evolve into an advanced lifeform. The term is derogatory implying that the Clarker takes a fantasy and believes it to be real.

There are many different groups lumped under this blanket insult. Clarkers come in many varieties from slightly off-beat visionaries to down spiritual hacks but they all share one central premise. The event which altered so many is either an act of God, an evolutionary imperative is a good thing.

Some of these groups are even trying to recreate the event that made the present crop of Metas. One such group is called "Human Dawn" and they are convinced that the Metas are the answer to the mystery of the radical evolutionary shifts that have never been explained.

Human Dawn believes that Homo Sapiens like so many before has become obsolete. They know their time is through, so they don't care if they die so long as their death furthers evolution in some way.

The next Clarker group is "The Living Advent Church and they have creatively interpreted the bible to support their belief that the Metas are the coming of God incarnate which is why they can perform what appears to be miracles. And like Human Dawn expose themselves and even their children to wild chemicals and energies in an attempt to become blessed by God.

Alright, I'll certainly be keeping those in consideration, as they are quite good ideas.

Anyway, I'm in the process of writing up an OOC and I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions for a Football team name? I'm including two colleges (Modern City University or MCU, and Modern City Tech or MCT) and I want to give MCU a football team that the whole town is likely proud of.

Edit: I'm also having a hard thinking up a good name for a local rock band.

Hmm.... Georgia Football teams

Well the State fossil of Georgia is the Megalodon Shark, Not sure if that Megalodon would be a good name but could picture fans screaming "GO DONS!"
Shark images on the scoreboard eating the opposing team. Maybe the schools primary teaching program could focus on the Oceanographic Sciences.
