Brainstorming: Hypothetical Super Robot Wars-style Mecha Crossover RP.

So after spending a while moaning to various people about the lack of any sort of mecha crossover RP I figured it was time to bite the bullet and try running one myself.

However, the problem I'm facing, beyond the lack of confidence I have as a GM (which this RP is meant to address) is that I don't really have any ideas for a setting / framing device or indeed anything resembling a plot.

So I figured I'd open it to the floor. What would you all like to see?

OK, so getting together what I have already:

*Allowing Original Characters as pilots
*Allowing mecha from both Real and Super Robot franchises
*On the fence about Tokusatsu mecha; might have to be evaluated on a case-by-case basis. Depends if you feel up to handling multiple characters.

Yeah, that would make more sense than trying to wrangle a three-five strong team.

As a fan of mecha's I am 100% down for this, and would recommend a sort of whose the enemy whose the ally sort of thing?
I may think of something else to help you if you don't mind me doing so.

I think that's a pretty good idea. Making it work with a mecha theme, and having a nice plot surrounding it would create one rad roleplay.

What if it's a mix of transformer-like robots being more advanced than the mecha's the military has, so the transformer-like robots somehow want to kill the humans to make the place their's but the CS would come in where there are mecha prodigies from all over the world being brought together to try and exterminate these transformer-like robots...The idea is a rough draft.

Mecha isn't a robot that can think on it's own though. A mecha is a robot that is piloted by a human.
Still a good idea, but I was thinking they'd be more transformer-like since transformers can obviously think on their own.

I still like my rough draft idea though because it has your kiling spree, a conflict, both types of robot, and a chance for improvement.

Army don't you go for the classic cross over explanation? An event or clean mashed realities together and characters from different worlds have to cooperate in order to survive/end it?

This had been working for Super Robot Wars ever since the dawn of the franchise, there's no way out can fail.
