I'm half tempted to add Accomplished Butcher of Names to Askeladden's skills/abilities list.

I'll allow it. :P

I know I keep asking lore-related questions, but:

1) What's the name for the currency in this world? Does it differ from nation to nation?

2) What is the main religion(s) of the continent? I don't remember reading about religion, so I might have just missed it.

Otherwise, I'm just waiting to see what goes on before I post.

Edessan's use "Gald/Sil/Copper" as opposed to gold/silver/copper- which are just minted coins that come in the form of 100 Copper coins = 10 Silver coins (sil) = 1 Gold (Gald)

Ardel uses a similar system to Gald and is exchangeable with Edessan currency- the only differences are the seals on the coins.

Welds don't use currency as much as they trade/barter perceived value.

Varya uses the Varyan Major system- which is a bit more complex and is more important in one of my other RPs.
- A Varyan Major is a large gold coin (American Half dollar sized), worth about 3 Gald

- A Varyan Minor is a medium sized silver coin (American Quarter sized), purchases most goods in Varya. A Varyan Major is worth 20 Varyan Minor. So a Varyan Minor is about .15 Gald or 1.5 Sil

- A Varyan Lesser is a medium copper coin used on cheap goods. 10 Varyan Lesser make 1 Varyan Minor, so a Varyan Lesser is worth about 1.5 Copper

- A Varyan Greater is a large gold coin with a translucent gem center. A Varyan Greater is worth 10 Varyan Major, so about 30 Gald.

.1 Greater = 1 Major = 20 Minor = 200 Lesser

As for Religions, the main Religion of Varya is Aerism (essentially pseudo Catholicism), and the Varyan capital is also the religious capital of Aerism (similar to the Vatican).

Edessan's main religion is Christism (essentially pseudo Protestant), while the Ardel to the north is primarily Christism but has traditions tracing back to Nordic paganism - For example, despite a large number of Vietnamese people being Christian, almost every Vietnamese family, regardless of their religion, has a shrine to their ancestors to pray to and ask for aid from. In this case you would substitute 'family shrine' for nordic pantheon gods.

Welds and the Eastern nomads are primarily Zehist (A mix of buddhism and druidism or shinto). The Welds are primarily a mix of buddhism and druidism, while the Eastern nomads are buddhist and shinto.

Hey, any chance I could get some perspective to the value of the currencies?

Like, what's the general price range of:
A loaf of bread
A tunic
A varyan steel sword
A mithril sword
A horse
100 acres of farmland

I'm waiting for Vesuvius to post again myself. I honestly want to see how Vitoria and Gabby get along. Something tells me it's either going to be hilarious or really awkward. (Both?)

...This is a good question. I'm keen on knowing, too, especially given my character being a haggler. This might come up during RP.

Value all depends on the current demand of the product but...
hold on.. lol, most of the items I have in my other RPs use the Varyan Major system...

- A cheap loaf of common bread from an inn or tavern would be little more than a few copper, On the other hand, nice bread that royal types consume could cost a few Sil.

- A common tunic or clothing item would run anywhere from a Sil or two to 1 Gald.

- A plain steel sword would probably cost anywhere from a 10-25 Gald - Which is a pretty penny. A low quality/crappy sword can be anywhere from 1-7 Gald. A sword made of Varyan Steel would probably run closer to 30-50 Gald. A sword made from Mithril or Adamantium would probably hit close to 150 Gald or more.

- A cheap spear would be something like a few Sil to 1 Gald, because the only metal bit is the spearhead.

- A Horse is around 40-50 Gald for a well bred horse like Emil's. A Horse for nobility would probably cost even more, but a common horse can be around 10-25 Gald

I cant really answer the bit about farmland, because I've never been too sure of the value of farmland. Probably a lot.

- The average peasant/farming family makes around 1-7 Gald of profit a year (This is without the costs of feeding the family and maintaining the farm, etc)

- A Guard in Edessa is given 5-7 Sil a week

- A well-off Merchant probably makes around 15-25 Gald of profit a year

primarily metal armor, and high quality swords are generally something that can be afforded by nobility. But its not unheard of for commoners to own such equipment.

- If any of these sound wrong to you... well... I'm no medieval economics major so...

If you'd like I could contribute some stuff I've gathered awhile back about medieval pricings of goods once I'm off of work.

Shit happens, dawg. We all understand, I'm sure.

Also, as a heads up: I'm going away to report on E3 and do some things in California, so I might not be able to post at all from Monday to Sunday.

@vietmykeCan do, Chief. I'm always looking to get new readers! Have you been before? This is my first time at E3. I did some coverage at PAX East a few months back, but I'm still getting the hang of the whole journalist/personality thing.

@Marx, E3 is similar to things like comic-con only in the sense that there are a shitton of crowds.

E3 is, to be presumptious, essentially the Mecca of games. Also there are lots of sweet free goodies and fancy tech showcases going on.
