No matter how much muscle or fat you got, a musket round to the chest will penetrate your armour and still kill you. Bigger may mean stronger, but they're still as fragile as normal humans when it comes to getting shot.

If they're creatures like Gargoyles, no. It takes a certain level of power to pierce them. If YHVH was angry at the world and sent down lightning bolts, you don't respond by shooting at him with a sniper rifle.

You're right of course. Good armor didn't restrict movement very much at all, but that wasn't my point. I was just saying that it's heavy and the extra encumbrance will slow you down, be a huge pain on the march (whether you wear the armor or just lug it around), and of course affect your stamina in a fight.

I have some first hand experience since I've actually worn some replicas of Spanish conquistador arms and equipment. A suit of steel plate was easily something like 50 or 60 pounds, and while it distributes itself better than one might imagine that's still obviously going to be a big disadvantage over someone lightly armored.

It was actually a fairly common tactic to just skirmish a heavily armored enemy until they got tired and sloppy, then start half-swording to try to stab them through the joints and gaps in their armor. Of course, failing that you could always just shoot them with a longbow, bludgeon them with a mace or warhammer, stick them with a rondel knife...

@ActRaiserTheReturned At the moment we don't have orcs, gargoyles or any other trope fantasy creatures, it's only humans, who are pretty much the same as in our world, Uri, who don't have any kind of power against being stabbed, let alone shot, and the Cimex, who are equally vulnerable to stabbing and shooting.

And we also have dragons, whose scales offer very good protection, but certainly nothing to prevent a cannonball getting through without their magic wards.
We also have undead, but they're hardly invulnerable t physical attacks for the most part (unless they're ghosts)

xDDD I meant in their natural planty state xP humans can use Wi to prevent themselves getting shot after all, doesn't stop their flesh from being nice and vulnerable when Thulemiz's ghouls descend on them.

There we go, if dragon scales aren't invulnerable to cannonballs and shots, Serpent Men aren't either xP but I'm guessing they have magic and wards that help protect them.

Zerabil could always read and write, he was created with a huge amount of knowledge. As for reading and writing, they're green on the technology list. They've been green for a long while. I'd say that (rich) Garakains and Zerabil's people were literate. Confederates and Ialu's people never needed it, so it's understandable why they have not yet learned. Uristan, being quite an advanced kingdom, is probably full of literate people. Dragons, it would seem, are also avid readers.

This would make sense if humanity had existed with agriculture for more than the 20-30 years that they have, but as is I doubt they realistically would have invented anything on their own. There has hardly been any time and the population is small and spread apart.

I suppose I'll chalk it up to knowledge spreading from Zerabil.

Well, we're about to take a 160-175 year time skip, so issues will start resolving themselves xP

Also, Arguis is a god, he can read. Mirtagn is thousands, if not more, years old, so that explains him. Zerabil was born a reader, and Uri are the creations of Arguis, with the ability to pretty much suck knowledge from the very land during their birth. I only assumed Garakains read because they've got a city and something of an aristocracy.
