Efah

She did not know which was worse: waiting seven hours in a mansion full of enigmas, or waiting seven hours in a mansion full of enigmas with her siblings. At least if they suffered, they suffered together, and Efah really never protested to the prospect of suffering.

Hisoka. Her name was Hisoka Himitsu for now, and she knew it would be taxing to call her siblings human names. Although the youngest child was one of the least likely of the siblings to make a slip in public(as she never talked much in the presence of humans), it still worried her. They had to be conspicuous. The girl sat in the living room of the mansion, having set up a mirror there since she didn't much appreciate her room. The bed was not made with the finest of silks Hell had to offer, so she would reject making that her space. Sure, it may have been one of the most luxurious beds on Earth, bought with, Hisoka assumed, a lot of green paper, but it was mediocre. No, she would have to do without having somewhere to lay around and read.

Read. Human books were hardly of any worth to her either, but they still somehow managed to absorb her attention. The demon child's hands touched the thin pages, her fingers running over the ink typed so meticulously on the small, white canvas. Her dislike for human books originated from her frustration of not understanding human things. Why did the protagonist do those things? Why did he do such useless things? Well, She thought, shutting the book and setting it aside to rest on the couch, he's certainly no demon. She turned to face the mirror, somewhat perturbed by the blonde hair and fairer skin. She remembered sitting on the arm of her father's throne and wrinkling her nose in disgust when he mentioned that she and her elder sister had very similar physical traits. Now, perhaps she was thankful for that. Rivka had a.. nice face, even when she was on a conquest for blood. Rivka had a lot of nice things about her. No. Not Rivka. Mari. Well, they both had nice things about them.

She didn't really know what her brothers and sister were up to. The minute they arrived in the mansion, Abadd-- Kaito was already researching something, studying something, learning things, important things. And Adramel-- Takeo was.. she didn't really know what her older brother was up to actually. In the wee hours of the morning, the house had been rather quiet. They were all adjusting to their surroundings, getting to know their environment. It was about time to get ready for, Hisoka shuddered, school. The little demon tossed her hair to the side, beginning to create a loose, low braid. At least that would keep it out of the way. One of the things demons and humans had in common were similar hairstyles.

Hisoka stood and placed the mirror carefully against the wall in hopes it wouldn't fall and shatter. Or be knocked down and shatter. There were so many things she hated about this world, and delicate products were one of them. Beginning to hear some kind of commotion in the house(God knew what), she picked up her boots at the end of the couch and began tying them on. Her outfit wasn't much. To be a human, one had to wear something according to the type of weather, and since Japan was cold in October, she simply wore the outfit the Nanny suggested before they were sent to this god-forsaken place. What was she to know about human apparel?

All of the siblings were stocked with clothes. She had a feeling they were probably meant to live in the human world at same point if Father fretted over some silly mansion. This was where he stayed in his times on Earth, and yet the house was so untouched and opulent. Not for long. Definitely not for long. When Hisoka had gotten ready, she stretched her arms as high as she could(it was a very pleasant feeling to stretch, she found out) and walked over to the door.

"It's time to go." Even though she did not yell the statement, she knew her siblings would hear her. Maybe they were just as on edge as she was, except perhaps Takeo. He always had an air of confidence around him. They didn't call him the Silver Tongue for nothing. It made her realize what a silly title she had herself. Mari's was so strong and intimidating. The Precursor of Lightning. Kaito really had no title other than The Third Sibling, but he was probably the most infamous sibling in Hell, or at least the most interesting to talk about. Hisoka knew he certainly interested her.

It was safe to say that they all certainly interested her in their own little ways.

Tatsuya

It was the same routine every morning. His little brother was his alarm clock. In the night, he would get frightened by Tatsuya's ridiculous stories about ghosts and end up crawling into the futon with him. Maybe he had deserved it, though, but it was still irritating because his other younger brother would never get scared. Anyway, the teenager would always wake up with a mess of curls below his nose, and a small body pressed up against his own, and god, he hated how nice he was to his siblings. So, after being rudely awakened, Tatsuya would get up, get ready, and take the subway to school early in the morning. Mostly because of his tour guides and lost puppies asking for directions. He should have been paid for his job. He really should have been paid.

If his family had so much money, he didn't know why they couldn't just buy a car or something and take him to school. The metro was always so crowded, and well, what if he was stabbed in the dark hours of morning? Then, Tatsuya thought, smirking as he sat down in one of the seats, I guess Ryo-san would have to come to my rescue again. He didn't know why his friend saved him that day, and he certainly didn't know why they stuck around each other for so long after, but he did know that Ryota was probably the only person he considered "friend" at Karui High School. Everyone else was so.. annoying. Yes, even if Tatsuya had a charming smile and a whimsical way with words, he still had feelings. He still hated girls staring at him, and maybe on some level, that was why Ryota and Tatsuya related so well and had some kind of understanding for each other.

Walking up to the open gates of the school, he saw some dedicated kids already walking up to the doors to study early or something. The boy walked inside and took a seat in the student lounge, waiting for those new kids to arrive. Siblings, he heard, four of them and in each different grade. All Tatsuya could think was that their parents must have gotten busy pretty quickly. Damn.

Rινкα

Drumming her fingers impatiently against her bicep, Rivka stood cross-armed in the center of the bathroom. She had been standing in there for quite some time, perhaps for 40 minutes or so- she stopped keeping track and instead placed all of her focus on the odd contraptions spread throughout the elaborate room. The entire mansion was the epitome of elegance, but such a materialistic matter did not grab Rivka's attention as much as the foreign apparatus she was faced with at the current moment.

What the hell is this thing even supposed to do? With knitted brows, Rivka- or Mari, leaned forward until her eyes were level with the porcelain faucet attached to the sink. The long strands of blonde hair proved to be a hindrance to the demon's investigation, forcing her to tuck them loosely behind her ear. She brought one of her curious hands closer to the handle with the word hot engraved across the top while her eyes trailed over to the opposing side labelled cold. The second sibling flicked at the knob multiple times to create a satisfying click that reverberated against the pristine walls and high ceiling of the room. She swayed closer to the unknown mechanic, anticipating some form of reaction as a result of her provocation. Initially, she assumed it would have been easier to call for one of her brothers to help. Due to her stubborn personality, however, Rivka restrained herself from asking for assistance; she decided it would be best to solve the riddle on her own. If I'm able to figure this out, she thought, a wry grin snaking its way onto her lips, I may very well have the upper hand in this house.

Quiet laughter emerged from the back of her throat, the smirk on her face widening in accordance. With a new mindset, Rivka was determined to decipher the mysterious hot and cold puzzle before the siblings were to set out for their first day at school. She eyed the two knobs with strong intent. In one swift movement, she wrapped her hands around each handle and gripped them tightly. Mari's knuckles turned white from the amount of force she was exerting into her grasp, but she was unsure of what the consequences may be if she were to suddenly let go. "-Activate!" In a bold voice, the demon shouted out her command while twisting her wrists daringly. She leaped back from the sink and her eyes widened when water flowed out of the faucet. "This device... it manifests water?" The shock left her face and was immediately replaced with a look of triumph. "Hah! Try and beat that, you peons!" Rivka cupped her hands beneath the stream, still reveling in her first achievement since their arrival at the large estate.

Pleased with her work, Mari turned the water off in a similar fashion and eventually made her way to the large doors separating her from the rest of the opulent interior in her lovely abode. "Wait 'till I tell them about this..." As she snickered childishly under her breath, she proceeded to organize her wardrobe for the day; a random selection of clothing sufficed for her, seeing as she carried no tangible knowledge about the mortals' style. Not that she care much for it, anyway.

After a short interval of time passed, Rivka was fully dressed and ready to go- a plain white graphic tee, a close-fitted black leather jacket accompanied by simple denim jeans and black high tops to match. She stood before her full length mirror laced with an intricate design that decorated the perimeter of the frosted glass, turning her body from side to side in amusement as she inspected the clothing. The textures of the material intrigued her, and she would have stood in the middle of her room for hours just stroking her arms and legs if Efah's small voice hadn't caught her attention.

"It's time to go." The youngest sibling's gentle statement drew Rivka towards the top of the grand staircase. From where she was standing, Efah was already prepared to head out of their solitude and into the bustling world of the living. Galloping down the steps, Mari cleared her throat and greeted Hisoka with a wave. "Human attire suits you." The older demon unfurled another slight smile while she approached her sister, leaving a short distance between them as she stood with her hand on her hip. A mixture of emotions flowed through her at that very moment- excitement, for they were about to enter an environment completely new to them, along with unrest, since she still lacked the proper skills to assimilate the humans' lifestyle. Today will certainly be an adventure.

Adramelech

Adramelech, as always, was ready first. Not needing sleep, he'd decided the most profitable course of action would be to get ready for school, never mind that it was six hours away. To be prepared made for the best defence and offence. This meant that at one, before Rivka had gone and spent an hour in there, he'd managed to figure out how to time the shower so that it didn't kill him with freezing water or cook him with boiling water. He considered the fact that he'd made it out alive rather impressive. Next he'd gotten dressed. And if there was one thing Adramelech had figured out, it was human clothes. They were so unique- way more boring than Hellish apparel, what with the lack of screaming souls in the fabric and so on- and one had to know how to impress. He'd only briefly acknowledged the nanny's advice to dress warmly, not knowing what that meant. Dress for warm weather? He almost had before he realized it was cold outside.

He spent half an hour deciding what to wear before settling on a dark read t-shirt, a black leather jacket- the closest thing to wearing souls, considering where leather came from- black jeans and heavy duty black boots. Unsatisfyingly simple, he thought. Still only around two in the morning when he was done, he decided to try out the meal called breakfast. Heading down the stairs by way of sliding down the banister, Adra moved into the spacious and well stocked kitchen. His boots were fairly loud on the wooden floor, and he figured that maybe he didn't need to wear them right at that moment. He kept them on anyway.

He spent a lot of time examining boxes in the cupboard, finding the blue box with a tiger on it particularly interesting. He grinned when he saw the word breakfast on the box. So this was what he was supposed to have for breakfast. With what? The orange flakes in it didn't seem to be particularly wholesome on their own, although they were sweet. Examining the box further, he decided that what he needed was the white substance and a bowl, as depicted on the front. He searched everywhere, finally finding his ingredients. Pouring copious amounts of milk and flakes into his bowl, he paused. Now what? He had the vague notion that humans cooked using fire of some sort, and turned towards the stove. He put the bowl on one of the circular bits and turned all the knobs on the stove on. The milk curdled and the flakes went weird after about an hour. Adra frowned. How did he know when it was ready? He helped in surprise as the stove burst into flames. A loud, beeping sound came on, and, pouring the rest of the milk on the fire in haste, he extinguished it. He bent over the stove curiously, backing away again in disgust. No breakfast, then.

He waited downstairs in th living room, finishing about two books as he waited for his siblings. He was fairly confident that he would settle in fine, but it was them he was worried about, especially Rivka and Abaddon. Rivka would probably kill someone if she took offence, and Abaddon might set the school on fire in the name of a prank. Thank Hell he didn't need to worry about Efah that way.

That statement was proven when Efah walked to the door, passing the entrance to the living room with plenty of time to spare to get to school. She was dressed and ready, looking innocent in her apparel. "It's time to go." Her voice wasn't impatient, just calm as it usually was. Rivka approached her less than a minute later, and Adramelech was amused to find that they were similarly dressed. He set his book down and walked up to the pair of them, grinning lazily. "Who's excited to mingle with the humans?"

Akane

Akane was still asleep when it was thirty minutes to school, and as such her little sister had the pleasure of bouncing all over her bed chanting, "Wake up wake up wake up, you're gonna be late for school!" Akane sat up and rubbed her eyes, shooting her a scowl. "I'm awake, you can leave me alone now," She complained, rolling until she fell out of bed. Her sister giggled. "Dad says we're leaving with or without you, so you better be ready in twenty minutes," Her sister said before running out of the room.

She got ready in a rush, taking a hasty shower, brushing her teeth and getting dressed in under fifteen minutes. Scarfing down toast and orange juice, she picked up her bag from the kitchen counter before running out to the car where her sister and dad waited impatiently. "Sorry, sorry, I'm here!" She said breathlessly. "It's about time," Her father grumbled, "Why can't you just wake up early?" Akane didn't answer, instead choosing to say some minutes into the drive, "We've got new students coming today. Apparently they're siblings, all four of them. I wonder what they'll be like."

"Hopefully more serious than you are," Her father said, amused this time and his bad mood gone. They pulled up in front of the school with ten minutes to spare before school started. "See, Dad? No issue," Akane grinned, getting out of the car and kissing her dad on the cheek. Her sister followed suit and they waved goodbye before they turned around and parted ways, heading to their different sections of the school.

"Sis! Sis! Wake up, sis!" Kanna, struggled to wake her older sister like she did all the mornings. She knew it wasn't her sister's fault that she always overslept, after all she worked pretty hard to take care of her, Shirou and Aoi, plus she had to deal with both her school club and part-time job obligations.

Sincerely, Kanna thought that her sister could use a break once in a while, it wasn't like Kanna couldn't fill Kureha's place for an afternoon so that she could relax a bit, but making her blockhead sister understand that wasn't the easiest thing in the world, "Ahh... if only she could get a boyfriend..." Kanna sighed as she continued trying to wake her sister.

A few minutes later...

"You... you shouldn't be saying those things, Kanna. Teasing your sister like that so early in the morning isn't right." Kureha said as she tied her apron in place and went to the kitchen to take care of their breakfast/bento.

Kanna gulped down a glass of orange juice, before replying, "But I wasn't teasing you, sis. I really think you should get a boyfriend. Aren't you on highschool already?" Kanna really wasn't saying that to tease her sister, after all, wasn't highschool the right time to find ones first love? Maybe she was readying too much manga these days, but Kanna was sure that when she went to highschool in a couple more years she won't be like her sister. "I'll fight for my love with these fists of passion!" The overly energetic shouted as she threw a blind punch in front of her.

*KRECK!*

After hearing the sound of one of the porcelain vases that were over the dining table breaking, Kureha came out of the kitchen just to see Kanna trying to stealthily hide its shards, "Gosh, Kanna! How many times mom had told you to not practice karate inside the house?"

"Tee-hee!" Kanna snickered while sticking her tongue and knocking her own head softly with the very same fist that broke the vase, "I'm sorry, sis. My hand moved on its own."

"Ahh..." Kureha sighed, there was no way that a mellow girl like her could get mad with her siblings, specially Kanna, who was the only other girl besides her, "Ok, I'll think of something to tell mom when she asks about the vase. Now, be a good girl and go wake Shirou and Aoi for me, ok?"

"Really?" Kanna said before hugging her sister, "You're the best, sis!" And then, she left for the boys' room.

Yet a little later...

"Are you sure you have everything that you'll need?" Kureha said as she straightened her brothers' hair just before they and Kanna would leave to take the school bus. "If anything happens promise that you'll call me, ok? Also, I may get back a little late today, so ask Kanna to give you the pudding that I bought yesterday, when you get back home."

"Right, Sis!" The twin boys said as they started walking along their usual path.

"Ok, I should get going too." Kureha said before fastening the straps of her skates and dashing away at full speed, just to get back even faster when she remembered she hadn't brought her school bag with her.

"Sis!" Kanna yelled as she threw Kureha's bag in wide arc.

Kureha didn't stopped to think, she just let her body move on its own and grabbed the bag mid-air, before turning around and moving towards her school at the speed of the wind, the "Thank you!" that she yelled back at Kanna was barely audible thanks to the distance between them.

At school...

When Kureha arrived at school there were only a few students scattered here and there, most of them heading to their respective clubs morning activities, just like her.

She greeted the few who she passed by on her way to the school's gym, especially those who recognized her as the 'Queen of the Court' of the volleyball team, much to her chagrin to say the truth, since she didn't like to be treated as a special someone that much.

Once in the gym, she went straight to the locker and changed into her P.E. uniform, which thankfully was just a loose white t-shirt and gym shorts, instead of the embarrassingly outdated bloomers that were the norm at her previous school.

Done with change, Kureha joined her team mates in their morning pratice.

"Good morning, Takanashi-san. You're late again." Kaname Ginko, the team captain and club president greeted Kureha warmly, but still didn't forgot to chastise her for her lateness. Fitting for her stern girl facade, even when everyone in the team knew that the 3rd year girl was in truth a lover of cute things.

"I'm sorry, Kaname-senpai. I'll try to get up early on our next morning practice." Came Kureha's downcast answer.

"Come on, Gincchi! I bet that Takanashi-san was working again yesterday. Give her a break." Said the always happy-go-lucky Tachibana Sayaka, the club's vice-president and Ginko's childhood friend.

"How many times have I said you to not call me that while we're at school, Sayaka? Plus, that's exactly my point, Takanashi-san may not see it, but she's seriously overworking herself. If this continues for too long she might just collapse in the middle of the street."

"Now you're just being melodramatic, Gincchi. Can't you see that you're scaring Yuno?" Sayaka said while passing her arm around the smallish 1st year student's shoulder.

"Is... is that true, Takanashi-senpai?" Yuno stuttered, in small voice that resembled a scared kitten, befitting her petite frame and meek demeanour.

"No, no, don't get like this Tsukiyo-san! I'm sure that Kaname-senpai is just trying to show her concern, but I'm perfectly fine," Kureha said while pumping her fist in an exaggerated gesture to show Yuno that she wasn't lying, "Also, I only work three days per week, it's my siblings that always keep me on edge."

"Though you never seem to carry, do you Takanashi-san?" Said the gentle Saitou Miharu. Miharu is the only daughter and heiress of the family that were once the city's feudal lords and, according to the rumors, currently a Yakuza clan, though the mellow girl didn't looked nothing like a Yakuza princess in Kureha's eyes.

"How can I? I really love them, no matter how much work they give me."

"You only say that because your brothers still are on that cute age. Let them grow a little more and we'll see if you're going to say the same thing when they start running around the house with your underwear on their heads." Despite Arisu's exasperated voice, it was clear that she cared for Hotarou, her own little brother, even if he was twice more destructive than their foul tempered shiba inu, Hayate.

"My underwear?" Kureha felt her face becoming a little red just from imagining her brothers messing with her panties, "They wouldn't do that, would they?"

"Just you wait and see, hehehe." Arisu said while patting Kureha's shoulder.

"Ahem!" The sound of Ginko clearing her throat loudly cut the girls' laid-back exchange. "Girls, I know that you're having fun, but there's an interschool competition coming soon and we can't afford to lose to our school's old nemesis. So... how about we begin our training before we are late to homeroom?"

After the training...

When Kureha arrived at her classroom, no more than a couple minutes before the bell, she couldn't avoid attracting unwanted gazes of her peers because of the fresh smell of shampoo that still lingered to her hair after the shower that she took to wash the sweat of her body. Or most probably, because she didn't had the time to dry herself properly, and thus, her uniform was sticking to the little bits of humidity that were left here and there on her skin.

Even thought it wasn't her intention, Kureha was looking damn sexy that morning... yeah.

Once their homeroom teacher arrived and began their morning lecture, the tiredness got the best out of Kureha and she fell asleep midway through it, but thanks to the fact that her desk was the second-to-last of the windows row, she was way out of the teacher's field of view and was spared of any scoldings once again.

However, Kureha's nightmare began once homeroom ended, as the first class in that morning would be math and right now they were studying one of the things that she considered one of the most difficult subjects, that is, trigonometry.

As Kureha fetched her notebook from under her desk during the short break between classes, she couldn't avoid sighing wistfully, "Ahh..."

Hitomi always had to leave for school early.

Why, she had no idea, but her parents insisted on this all the time, even when their current place of residence was barely a ten minute walk away from the Building of Education. Heading out a full hour early was just pure evil! It wasn't like Hitomi had forgotten to brush her teeth, brush and tie her hair, or even forget to eat! Her schoolbag was hanging from her shoulder as it always did, homework belonging to a couple of others in class that had begged her to help them out (something about too many chores preventing them from completing an assignment, and Hitomi was only too happy to assist), and...

Oh, wait, she'd forgotten her scarf! And woollen gloves. The cold air was biting at her unprotected skin, and the shivering girl was quick to succumb to the frosty temperature and rush back home, setting her satchel aside once she'd stepped through the door, the twin-tailed blonde climbed the stairs and entered her small, but cozy room.
In her haste to locate anti-weapon equipment, the organised little space was quickly transformed into the remains of a clothing store that had gotten into a fistfight with a minefield, and took a couple of hard hits in the process. But at least she found her favourite pair of white gloves!

And so, stumbling over the small piles of clothes litterig her bedroom floor, the adequately-protected high-schooler was now once more walking to school. She still had plenty of time after all. After an uneventful six minutes, however...
"...Aw, darn," she mumbled, coming to a stop. Her satchel was missing. She'd sat the thing down, right? With a light knock to her forehead with a knuckle, Hitomi once more hurried back home with a light jog.

Satchel once more procured, Hitomi headed for school once more. Still about half an hour to go, more or less, so no point in rushing there! Despite the setbacks (which were a lot more common than even Hitomi seemed to notice), she wore a content smile on her face. Even if she wasn't exactly someone that was part of a large social group, she felt as if her whole class was like a large gathering of friends, so school wasn't a terrible place to be for most of your week. And come to think of it, she was sure that a few of her classmates had mentioned something about a transfer student? It was a bit of an odd time to transfer, Hitomi hoped that whoever this new student was, they wouldn't feel left out or anything...

Having finally reached the school gates, an ominous feeling overtook Hitomi. There was... something not right, right? Something was missing... but what? She'd gathered everything...
Hesitantly, she opened her bag and looked at the contents. Yep, the homework for her classmates was still there... school supplies...
And then Hitomi realised it: her own homework was still sitting at the dining room table from the previous evening. Hell, she'd even looked at it this morning! How did she forget that?!

"Uwaaaah..." the normally-cheerful girl couldn't help but moan pitifully, turning heel and downright sprinting back home this time. What a lot of good leaving early turned out to be.

Abaddon

The last to get ready, but probably the most prepared of the siblings was Abaddon. He didn't take the time to sleep, but he didn't take the time to get ready for school either (not until the very last minute, anyway). Instead, Abaddon was focused on what he originally called the "Unity of Squares" that were on his desk in his room. Or as humans would call it, a "computer". Since late at night, up until even later at night, up until the early morning, Abaddon had been trying to figure out this supposed human machine, much to his annoyance.

He started by looking at the "Rectangle" , which sat on the desk under the main Square, at least Abaddon thought it was the main Square. The Rectangle had many buttons on it, and some had letters on them. This was good, he thought. There were things he could recognize on the Rectangle. He tried pressing one. Nothing happened. The Third Sibling scowled, pressing a different button instead. Nothing happened. Before long he was pressing many buttons in quick succession. They all did nothing. He sighed.

"Why would humans have such a worthless item in their homes?"

He didn't know. Maybe there was something else he had to do before he could access the secrets of the Rectangle. He stepped back, examining the Squares in their entirety. He noticed that the largest Square had several buttons on it, but the one that proved to be the most intriguing was the one with a odd symbol within it. Naturally, Abaddon pressed it. It took a few seconds, but the machine activated, and one of the Squares lit up. Abaddon smirked. No human machine would beat him.

Since then, Abaddon had been working with the Unity of Squares for around two hours. He had discovered that the Unity of Squares was actually called a computer. He had also discovered the internet, and by typing words into a mysterious bar through the use of the Rectang-- keyboard, Abaddon was able to find out information on pretty much anything he had questions for. He had gotten the hang of it, and had been using the bar to learn about many things, and had visited several websites, although the one that brought him the most intrigue (and the only one he actually remembers the name of) was...Wikipedia? At least he thought that was the name. Abaddon preferred to call it the Ultimate Earthland Book. Abaddon smiled at his discovery.

"This com-pu-ter has all the information I require!" The Third Sibling exclaimed loudly. Perhaps too loudly.

"Once again, my siblings are beneath me!" He shouted. Still too loudly.

Strategy would call for him to temporarily keep his Ultimate Earthland Book a secret. At least for now. With the magical Earthland Book, he had knowledge. And knowledge is power...at least that's what humans apparently say. He found that on the internet too.

However, Abaddon's adventures online proved to be time-consuming, and he ended up frantically rushing to get ready. As he operated the many contraptions in the bathroom, he would quickly return to the computer to try and research things he didn't understand - which consumed even more time. By the time he actually got ready for school, there was very little time to actually make it there. Even so, he had a smug look on his face as he made his way down the mansions stairs his discovery had definitely made him more complacent than he normally was.

Haruto Inoue

It was an average day in the life of Haruto Inoue. Homeroom began just the same way it always did, with their teacher making an absolute ass of herself, and Haruto sat in the exact same seat in the middle of the classroom, just like he always did. People tended to give him a wide berth, so his preferred desk went relatively untouched, save for the graffiti people vandalized it with when he was at lunch or in the bathroom. In fact, someone without much imagination had added a new one today. A little carving saying "Die", right underneath a black marker drawing of a dick, one of his favorites.

Haruto didn't really care though. A desk was a desk, and he sat there to enjoy the prime real estate, nothing else. From that seat he could see everything in the classroom, front, sides and back. It made him feel like the center of attention, even if it was just a little bit.

In reality though, he was about as invisible as air, or maybe Schrodinger's cat. He only existed when people acknowledged him, usually in the form of the aforementioned desk-graffiti. He wasn't bullied per se, but in many ways the way people just forced themselves to completely ignore him was even worse. At least being bullied meant people cared enough to make shit out of you. To the kids at this school, Haruto was a ghost. Say "Inoue" three times in front of a mirror in the dark and he'd appear to ruin your social life. But that all changed recently. Someone had acknowledged him.

Haruto looked to his left at the beautiful black-haired girl sitting by the window. Takanashi Kureha, the new transfer student. On her first day here...

No one had ever spoken so kindly to him before. Realizing that someone could notice and acknowledge him like that was like coming up for a breath of fresh air after years of being on the verge of drowning. A shocking realization that maybe there was something more to life than... this. Haruto had never considered having a love life as being one of the options open to him in his life, but now he was determined to try. Hell, he was determined to succeed. He felt infatuated. For once it felt like maybe he'd found someone who actually cared about him.

Haruto stared at her, transfixed. It was hopeless of course. Despite his intelligence and modestly-toned physique he'd attained through years of judo, Haruto was painfully unappealing, not to mention awkward. He dressed plainly and in a way that was very unflattering, he was a know-it-all, and he hardly ever spoke (and when he did it was usually just stammering worthy of Jeff Goldblum). Kureha was beautiful, kind and outgoing, not to mention the rising star of the tennis club (and all that on top of being filthy stinkin' rich if her house was any indication). Best of all, she wouldn't have heard much about his umm... unfortunate reputation.

Haruto sighed. It's not like I want to be a shut-in, dammit. I've just got so much to do! Homework, mock exams, band practice, judo, helping Mom run her campaign...

And now tutoring. It certainly wouldn't help with all the other responsibilities he had to keep up with, but it was worth it just to get a chance to know her better. They were worlds apart as it was. If he was going to have any chance with her, he'd need to make the first move. Waiting for her to approach him wasn't just laughable, it was practically giving up to begin with, because that would never happen. Haruto knew all too well that he was a loser, and that the things he found attractive about Kureha were probably the things that the other guys found attractive about her too. That's why he had to ask her out before they did, and this was the perfect opportunity! But...

How am I supposed to do that?!

Haruto nearly tore his hair out just thinking about it. It was impossible. It was definitely impossible! For someone like him, you may as well ask to slay a dragon. So then why did he feel like he had to do this?!
