I just realized something about Pearl, everyone. Also, it may have already been stated here, so please don't get mad if I unintentionally repeat something. You guys know in sworn to the sword how Pearl breaks down and calls Steven Rose? I don't think that she was just mistaking the boy for her mother. In one of the videos, Rose says something along the lines of 'whenever you get that feeling of loving everything around you, just remember, I'm that feeling', basically stating that she'd always be there with him in his gem. And remember how Jasper kept calling him rose, because she saw Rose's gem, and instinctively thought that she was hiding as a child? Maybe Pearl could have lapses like that, still trying to convince herself that somehow, Rose was still with them. We all saw how well she took to Lion knowing about the secret armory, and how Rose kept some things from even her. I could be looking way too deep into it, and I probably have looking at the rant I just typed.

No, I completely agree. That is how I view Pearl also. It has been stated more than once that Steven is very much like Roae and also very different. Pearl even says once that she wonders if Rose can see her through his eyes. It is hard for her because she is in love with Rose but also cares about Steven and loves him in a different way. I think her feelings jumble back and forth a lot

Yeah, the 'Do you have any of her memories?' bit really made me think that as well. I think Pearl lapses between seeing Steven like a son and desperately wishing that part of Rose is somewhere in him. It's really a very well written tragic love story.

I agree. What really made me like this show is that they don't hold back on the darker touches. They believe in kids to understand and also make it enjoyable for adults. They keep the tragic heartbreak and not just pretend it isn't there or doesn't bother the character anymore. It is such a beautiful show. When Rose spoke with Steven through the video, I cried right along with him.

@Akayaofthemoon That's something I really like about the show too, how they're able to mix the tragedy in with the cute and funny parts without downplaying one for the sake of the other. When I first heard Rose's voice after how much she was built up I think my heart stopped for a second.

I loved how they built her up to that moment. That you felt so much different things for Rose from many points of views but then to see her. For the real time see her through her own eyes and how much she loved Steven before he was in the world. Her knowing that she couldn't be there and giving him a final and beginning message just for him. She showed in that moment what Greg, earth, humans, and Steven meant to her. That she regretted nothing.
