@Akayaofthemoon That's a really good point, from the sound of things on Homeward everything has it's place and anything that doesn't fit into that is instantly rejected. That probably is a big part of why Rose loved humans so much. In fact, I just though of something, maybe the reason she loved Greg's "If every pork chop were perfect" saying so much was because it summed up why she loved Earth so much, because for the most part, at least from her point of view, people are free to find their own place here.

On that topic, I'm also really starting to wonder what exactly about Pearl made Jasper immediately recognize her as 'defective.'

@21308 I would say, if there are more than one Pearls, I would say that Jasper recognized her as defective because she had her own identity and desires?

Also, considering that there are temples on Earth, wouldn't that mean that HomeWorld has a religious system?

Because Pearl's don't stand up for themselves. They probably don't speak out and are just used as servants or as combat practice. They are made to be quiet and followers. This is why she said to Garnet that she was just a Pearl and that she wasn't strong. That she needed someone to give her orders or to serve. That is why she likes being fused with Garnet because their relationship is special plus they are strong and confident, Pearl likes feeling that way.

It took Garnet telling her that she had changed. That she really was different and strong. That she didn't need someone to order her around

Hmm it is hard to say if it is religion or not. The temples we have seen so far are one for combat, one that told the history of Gem war which could have been for training or a never ending punishment, we have seen the gem temple which is more of a home base, the one that the heaven beetle was at but that hardly had any information or anything really religious and the sea spire was said to be a hub. A communication and a place to meet with others if I remember right. The other one was a place to protect the time thing.

Most of them again had a purpose so not really sure they do have a religion but it could be possible

@Guardian Angel Haruki Yeah, that's probably why. And I don't really know, it's possible. Maybe 'temple' was just the best word they had for it, but they serve a purpose that's only similar to what temples are for on Earth. Also, since some of the art in the temples appears to be of Rose Quartz' deeds, Homeworld may not have been the ones who put them there.

@Akayaofthemoon That makes a lot of sense. I think that's also a really big part of why Pearl loved Rose so much, even depended on her. Rose may have been the first person to really see Pearl as 'Pearl' and not "Pearl #3423527" or whatever.

That is what I believe. She was the first to see past rank and everything an treat Pearl as a gem not as some tool or servant. She saw her as her and that made Pearl feel special. It made her want to be there for Rose because Rose actually cares about Pearl.

@21308@Akayaofthemoon I have to agree. I think that the moment Jasper saw Pearl acting upon her own volition, she labeled her as defective. Anything and everything that isn't cookie-cutter is wrong and suitable. Pearls are what I can assume are servants, cannon fodder, or something similar. Had Pearl been designated to anyone other than Rose, I can assume that she'd be the perfect servant. She thinks freely because that's the kind of person Rose wanted her to be. She didn't want pearl to be another filled in template.

She wanted her to be like a human.

To which is why she has such distaste for Greg. Pearl aspired to be exactly everything Rose wanted her to be, yet she found true love in Greg. A lone, free thinking wanderer whith no place of his own. Pearl saw him as she goal she could never achieve. She could never truly be like him, despite how much she tried.

Now, after Sardonyx week, Garnet tells Pearl that she is strong, capable. She's her own person. She didn't need Garnet, or Rose, or to be more like Greg. Pearl was Pearl. Not A Pearl.

@Akayaofthemoon Yeah, I think that's what Pearl meant when she said Rose made her feel like everything. If Rose ever consciously turned Pearl down, I think this is why. She knew that being able to stand on her own was going to be a crucial part of Pearls growth, and she wouldn't be able to have that if she was constantly relying on Rose for strength.

I honestly believe that Gems (At least Pearls) are mass-produced in Homeworld. For one thing, we know that Gem Shards can be grown into Gems in the Kindergartens, and I doubt that they wouldn't have superior versions of that at Homeworld. And all the references to being built for a purpose, which for Pearls apparently isn't fighting, judging from the fact that Pearl had apparently never learned how to fight until the first fights of the rebellion. ("It was here that the first battles took place"/"It was here that I learned the art of swordfighting") And considering the nature of Pearl, it would make sense that they were preferred. (Easy to command, loyal, tends to lose purpose on own, etc. Good for an army of disposable soldiers.)

Of course, this is all just a big what-if, that happens to fit with what we know. The basis of which is founded by the show......on every possible opportunity. @21308@pyroman@Akayaofthemoon
