Compared to Ken Ham... Bill Nye's presentation started off really weak.

As much as I love him, Bill's making a lot of assumptions about his audience's level of knowledge. I get what he's saying, but the ignorant won't.

to be fair it is Bill's turn now

I know. Dur. It just feels like some of it was pretty weak compared to Ken Ham's, however, he is sticking more to the question than Ham.

It almost feels like they're having two different conversations. Ham's presentation is built around 'what we can do now isn't necessarily a representation of what happened,' and Bill keeps bringing up 'But look what we can replicate now!' They're two different...... Well. I guess that's more oriented towards the summer/winter snow ice samples and the tree rings, but still. They're not quite debating yet.

Nye has a depressed and tired exasperated voice like he's teaching arithmetic to grown adults over and over.

Here we go again. Nobody's saying the rate is constant, Bill. You're right -- but nobody's saying that.

If you assume that the creator of the universe supplied the blueprints then I think that'd trump shipwrights in Maryland but.... well that's not....

14 So make yourself an ark of cypress[c] wood; make rooms in it and coat it with pitch inside and out. 15 This is how you are to build it: The ark is to be three hundred cubits long, fifty cubits wide and thirty cubits high.[d] 16 Make a roof for it, leaving below the roof an opening one cubit[e] high all around.[f] Put a door in the side of the ark and make lower, middle and upper decks (Genesis 5:14-15),

He told them how big to make it but he didn't really give blueprints.

Well remember the book of Genesis was written thousands of years after the fact. There's some actual evidence lying around out there that the design (a) was different and (b) actually did happen, maybe.

That's why Creationists continue to perpetuate their one-sided view. The end-all argument is just "God did it" and that's the end.

That's the premise, yes, and (as Ham has pointed out about a thousand times) they don't have a problem with moving on to go to actual science afterwards. As a premise it's not much more ridiculous than 'God didn't do it and that's the end.'

Sounds more funny than laudatory when you're talking about debating.

It's worse if you're talking about chess.

Personally, I don't see why religion and science have to be diametrically opposed.

To me, science tells us the HOW about the Universe. Religion tells us the WHY about the Universe.

God created the Universe? Cool. Makes sense, there had to be something before the Big Bang. Maybe God sneezed. Or pushed a domino over. Whatever. He started stuff.

Six days? Could have felt like it to God. We may have been made in his image, but I'm damn sure God isn't human. He's got to be some being that exists beyond the three dimensions that we exist in.

And so on and so forth.

They don't. Multiple religions, including forms of Christianity have no issues with science.
