Marriage shouldn't be something of legal status, guaranteed by government. It's first and foremost a religious practice, and it should be delegated to religious institutions.

I worked at a place where I had to wear a dark blue and khaki polo shirt. It was all kinds of gross. Threads of those colors woven together to make the most nauseating color. But on the plus side, it didn't show stains.

Marriage actually predates any modern religion, modern concepts of marriage (love, attraction, monogamy, mutual respect) have only been around the last couple centuries marriage served as a political tool to secure alliances between families and royalty and a way to make babies. The Catholic Church only started involving itself in weddings in the 9th century
