Dante has remained estranged from his family. He has no children, nor close friends. The only people with whom he retains any semblance of communication are his government contacts (usually to hand him an assignment). He has become very antisocial as of late, though he will get into the occasional conversation with locals when he goes into town proper to procure supplies.

ABILITIES/STRENGTHS

Powers:

Regeneration – Dante has been gifted with the ability to very quickly recover from any physical wound, including full amputations. Amputations, admittedly, can take a bit. His powers of recovery are mostly the reason he was utilized by the government, and later accepted into the Sixth Divisions. Keeping him dead has proved to be a very tough nut to crack thusfar.

Ultimate Skill – Melee weaponry. Forced psychogenerative mutation gave him an interesting and unexpected ability; his natural talent with melee weaponry increased exponentially. He has expressed more talent with this than anyone recorded to present day. Dante is able to perform feats of proficiency that anyone else would pass a kidney stone trying to imitate, short of breaking the laws of physics. While he has a preference for sharp weapons, this applies across the board. They just seem to speak to him.

Skills:

Military Background – Enlisted with the United States Army fresh out of school. Did remarkably well in officer training, eventually achieved the rank of Captain (not just a clever title for this guy), and volunteered for a long-term military career. He has training in weapons, tactics, history, leadership, military tech, and all the other interesting bits of knowledge that come with being a combat officer with respectable clearance.

Espionage – After acquiring his powers, he was moved from combat to Intelligence, where he received training in observation, tracking (and covering one’s tracks), appropriate technology, and the acquiring/trafficking of information.

Thrown Weapons – Knives, darts, rocks, small forest animals, beer steins, etc. If it can be picked up, he can more or less accurately hurl it at a target. Is not influenced by his Ultimate Skill; if the weapon leaves his hands, his Power doesn’t help. Nonetheless, he is formally trained and quite good.

Weapon Mastery – Proficient with every type of melee weapon imaginable.

Resist Domination – Or “Composure Under Extreme Interrogation”. While not a Power, persay, it is more along the lines of extreme conditioning to assist in resisting mental control from multiple potential sources. Keeps classified information classified, among other things, but is not a perfect defense.

Stealth – Again falling under the auspices of training, not Power. He is extremely adept at not being noticed for extended periods of time.

VICES/WEAKNESSES

At present, Dante has difficulty relating to anyone not directly involved in his professional life on a meaningful and productive basis. While he doesn’t fully monologue, he will sometimes ramble in a gravelly voice, Rorschach-esque. He tends to drink too much, though the act is ultimately futile as his powers prevent him from getting anything more than a buzz. After the failure of the Sixth Division, and the subsequent shunning of individuals of power, he has been particularly ethically flexible.

BACKSTORY

Ignoring his childhood dreams and aspirations, as Dante would have preferred, let’s just get to brass tacks.

A young Mr. Stabbington (actual name) enlisted in the United States Army directly following high school. Scoring well on placement tests, he easily enrolled in Officer’s Training and walked out a young, idealistic Lieutenant, attached to a combat unit where he served with distinction. Over the next few years, he rose to the rank of Captain, due to a mostly positive mission success rate. He and his unit volunteered for difficult assignments, be it open combat, reconnaissance, or infiltration. It came as no surprise when he was asked to be a part of something risky and experimental.

The government experiment involved psychogenerates. This particular scientific inquiry involved various invasive biological exposures in the hopes of imparting power to a talented and fit “normal”, in a manner that was stable with minimal detrimental side effects. The experiment killed many. Dante was the first and only to survive before the project was shut down. He survived, thrived, and became more than he was previously. He walked away from the <location undisclosed> complex at peak, human maximum physical condition and the ability to spontaneously self-heal at a greatly accelerated rate. For some reason, twist of fate, random mutation, extra blood getting to his brain, whatever, Dante found that his natural talent for melee combat improved. Dramatically. (details above, under Powers.)

After an intense training period, he was placed into Military Intelligence – Gathering, where he could be of immense use and could be properly observed. During this time much of his work revolved around the Fourth and Fifth Divisions, either to keep tabs on or run field work for them. He continued to take orders from his government superiors during this time, until his term of service came up for renegotiation.

It was at this time that the Director of Special Operations recommended him for the Sixth Division. While his powers weren’t as flashy nor as obvious, he training and experience made him very valuable. He served as a tactician, field operative, and covert agent for the Sixth, but still able to hold his own against more powered opponents due to pure perseverance and a good amount of prior planning, backed up by his own intel.

He was not one of the more mentioned or remembered affiliates of the Sixth, but his name is still spoken in whispers in certain circles. He is, to this day, an intelligence and counter-intelligence legend. Following AW, he sunk into obscurity. The government distanced themselves from him publically, but still threw him lucrative assignments as an independent contractor. All very hush-hush. They would even subcontract him out to their allies, giving him an extra paycheck and them plausible deniability. He otherwise lives moderately well off of dual government pensions in a state of semi-retirement.

He presently resides in a small mountain town in the Cascades, outside of Portland, OR. He selected for himself a moderate sized dwelling in a great expanse of woodland where he stockpiles weapons, electronics, and equipment, like a well-educated doomsday prepper who knows full well what kind of apocalypse could be any day now. He maintains his physical prowess and full range of training, and in fact doesn’t seem to have aged since he was 30.

Dante worked with the Fourth and Fifth Divisions, but as he was active in the United States Military and Intelligence Community, he didn’t officially join the roster until the Sixth.

APPEARANCE

When working, Captain Stabby prefers functional BDU pants and high collared, black, form-fitting tactical wear. Over this, he prefers a long, black coat, suitable for concealing firearms and questionable things he carries on his person. He regularly paints his face grey and black to resemble a skull.

TOOLS/WEAPONS

At any given time, he will carry two large knives/machetes/shortswords/whatever. They’re different every time you see him, even if you just left the room for a minute to grab a soda. He has more on his person, with certainty.

He is fond of tactical asp batons, and will often carry two of them if a target must be subdued. He also makes liberal use of stable explosives with remote detonators/impact triggers, and isn’t above using firearms if needed. To this end, he prefers a pair of Detonix MTX .45 ACP Modular Government Issue sidearms. He prefers hollowpoint ammunition.

In any instance, he will equip himself with whatever is necessary to complete the task at hand, either from his own stash (which is excessive) or his handler’s.

TRADEMARKS

The long coat and skull facepaint are how he’s known publically, along with the ever-changing sets of sharp things. It’s more of a look than trademark, granted, as everything can be replaced or emulated if necessary.

Alexander Mackey

NAME: Alexander "Alex" Mackey

AGE: 35

APPEARANCE: Standing six feet two and weighing a good 180 pounds, Alex is well enough built of a man for some women to call him a stud. He has brown eyes and a head of shoulder length, shaggy brown hair, with a long, thick nose and thin lips. His hands are big and thick yet soft and gentle, belying his calm, gentle nature. He normally dresses simply, often wearing a tee-shirt, plain blue jeans and sneakers underneath a dark green apron when he's at work. However, he will never be seen without his signature silver signet ring on his right index finger. This ring is decorated with a kite shield on its front, and engraved on the shield are the coat of arms of his ancestors; clockwise from the top left, a gothic cross, an eagle, a castle tower and a sword. He also has a silver chain, on which dangles a locket with a family picture inside it, whose case is engraved with an ornate castle tower.

• Robert "Bob" Mackey - Father, deceased; the father of the Mackey twins, Bob was a grand man, "descended from a line of Arthurian knights", so he claims. Together with his wife, Arwen, he was part of the superhero duo dubbed the "Knights Anglais", with his name being Excalibur. They fought crime in the UK for many years before being discovered by the Third Division and subsequently being recruited by them.
  
  His powerset was that of energy and matter manipulation, making him an immensely powerful super who could crush and destroy with ease. After Alex and Shirley came of age and developed powers of their own, he initiated them into the Knights, thus forming the power group of the coat of arms depicted on much of their imagery.
  
  He was killed late into the life of the twins after he and his wife were caught off-guard by a sniper hired by anti-super revolutionaries while visiting Cairo on vacation with the family.
• Arwen Mackey - Mother, deceased; Arwen was the mother of the Mackey twins and the wife of Robert. She possessed the power of sound manipulation and took the name of Banshee, as her powers allowed her flight similar to the Marvel hero of the same name. Along with her husband, she was part of the Knights Anglais, and together they fought crime in the UK for many years before being discovered by the Third Division and subsequently being recruited by them.
  
  She too was killed later in life, by the same gunman, alongside her husband while in Cairo on vacation, both husband and wife long since retired from crime-fighting. They left behind a legacy of sorts in their children, though this has mostly gone unnoticed due to the lives they have led since they left the Division.
• Shirleen Mackey - Sister, alive and well; Shirleen, or Shirley, is Alex's twin sister. More details on her can be found on her sheet below.

ABILITIES/STRENGTHS:

• Immovable Object - Alex can, when standing still with BOTH his feet firmly planted on the ground, root himself in place to prevent himself from moving. Nothing, not even the strongest force, can move him from where he roots himself. Only when his foothold is shaken or he loses balance does this power deactivate.
• Super Strength - Alex possesses the strength of several hundred men, and can easily lift a small bus with little difficulty, jump as high as a small building and run faster than most humans can, though not as fast as those with super speed.
• Iron Skin - By virtue of his defense-based powers, Alex also possesses a superhuman tough skin, akin to Colossus in terms of durability. It's not metallic, of course, but it allows him to survive most attacks by unpowered individuals. Of course, things like RPGs or explosives or attacks from powered individuals can break past his defenses to do him damage.
• Power Channel - Discovered mostly due to experimentation with his sister, Alex is able, to a certain degree, to absorb and redirect most energy-based powers thrown at him, things like fireballs, beams, electricity and the like. If they are weak enough to not cause him severe injury, he is able to absorb them and then redirect them either back at his aggressor or somewhere else. However he can only use this when rooted as an Immovable Object. He likes to use this most in conjunction with his sister, as she can fire lasers and light beams at him and have him redirect her attacks at other foes out of her reach.
• Green Thumb - Years spent growing his own vegetables and produce has made both the Mackey twins very adept at growing whatever they fancy. No powers involved, just lots of patience and love for plants.
• Street Smart - Having spent many years on the streets of London as a vagrant, Alex knows the ins and outs of street life, and is very savvy on what lowlifes and thugs do and how they do it.

VICES/WEAKNESSES: Booze and cigarettes, mostly. Alex is also a school dropout, so he is mostly home educated and has much to learn about higher subjects like sciences or advanced mathematics.

BACKSTORY
Alex and Shirley were born in London, England, to Robert and Arwen Mackey in the summer of 1989. Almost identical twins save for their genders, they both shared many things growing up in life; a school, teachers, similar hobbies and the like. However, what they didn't share was personality; Alex was cooler, calmer and more gentle, while Shirley was hot-headed, aggressive and fierce. Both siblings, however, were very protective of each other, evidenced by how close they were growing up.

But where Shirley excelled in her studies, Alex didn't. In their teens, Alex dropped out of school due to bad grades and spent a lot of his time on the streets, wandering around, getting into trouble and trying not to get caught. This was when he first caught wind of his powers of strength, endurance and defense, though he kept them a firm secret from anyone he knew, even his sister.

Eventually his antics were reigned in by his father and he was slowly put on a home-schooling program, his mother being his teacher. He kept his powers a secret even from them, though this particular secret was badly kept as his folks caught wind very quickly of their son's potential.

When they both came of age, Alex and Shirley were introduced to the world of superhumans and their powers. It was no surprise that their parents were supers, of course, and they trained the twins on the use of their own powers; Alex of his immense strength and endurance, and Shirley of her light manipulation. After grasping the uses of their powers, their folks let them enter the Knights Anglais, the superhero team they'd founded themselves. The family of supers took to crime-fighting with ease, keeping their efforts across the UK low-key while maintaining their day lives as the family behind a small grocery store in downtown London.

When WWIII came around, however, Robert and Arwen left their children behind as they were recruited to the Third Division. Not wanting their impressionable kids to experience the horrors of war, they left them behind in London and fought for years, until 2006 when the Third disbanded. When that happened, they returned home much to the joy of their children, who had been keeping the family business alive until their eventual return.

In 2010, while on vacation in Cairo with the family, Alex bore witness to his parents' deaths by the hand of a single sniper. Caught by surprise, it only took two bullets to completely destroy the family, leaving him and his sister to pick up the pieces as they returned to London. The sniper was later found to have been a revolutionary that bore grudges against supers, and took the opportunity to send a message to the worldwide super community with the killings.

Alex and Shirley briefly spent time within the Fourth Division as the brother-sister duo Sword and Shield, though without their parents, the superhero life felt empty, devoid of the life it once had. In 2015 they left the Division and returned to London, resuming their business as simple grocers, to which they have been to this day.

APPEARANCE: In his identity as Sciath, Alex is normally clad in a navy blue flat cap and a black domino mask, mostly concealed by his shaggy hair. He wears a white turtleneck shirt underneath a brown trench coat that's normally left open. The length of chain that serves as his weapon is normally wrapped around his left arm. On his legs he wears a pair of beige cargo pants and steel-toed boots. On his hands are a pair of black leather driving gloves.

TOOLS/WEAPONS:

• A length of heavy-duty chain that serves as both his primary weapon and a power focus for his Power Channel ability stated above. Through the chain, he is able to fire out the powers he's absorbed.
• His fists and feet, naturally.

TRADEMARKS:

• The coat of arms mentioned above, displayed both on his signet ring and on the back of his coat.
• His long trench coat itself, emblazoned with the family coat of arms, is a symbol of the family and team he used to hail from.
• The tattoo of an ornate castle tower on the left side of his neck.

Shirleen Mackey

NAME: Shirleen "Shirley" Mackey

APPEARANCE: Standing a mere five feet five inches tall and weighing 155 pounds, Shirley is much smaller than her brother is. Her hair and eyes are the same shade of brown, and her hair is long and curly, flowing past her shoulders. She regularly keeps her hair tied in a ponytail and shares the same fashion sense as her brother, dressing simply in a blouse or shirt, jeans and shoes when at work or out. She too has a signet ring worn on her left index finger, though a smaller one for her dainty hands. The bronze chain she wears also has a locket on it, on which is engraved a Roman gladius and contains a picture of her family.

ABILITIES/STRENGTHS:

• Light Manipulation - Shirley is able to manipulate all forms of light, be it UV or infra-red or microwaves, she can handle it. It can be weaponised by way of firing or creating laser beams, creating bright bursts of light to disorientate, or creating focused beams of light to superheat targets. Defensively, she can create shields of light to block incoming attacks or sheath herself in an absence of light, making her invisible to the naked eye.
• Agile - By virtue of her powers being extremely adaptable, Shirley has trained herself to be just as such, taking gymnastics and parkour classes to keep her body fit to traverse any surface or cross any obstacle that her brother can't throw her over.
• Keen Eye - Shirley has also trained her innate ability of observation, picking up on subtle details on the environments or on foes quicker than most. Not superhuman, just well-trained.

VICES/WEAKNESSES: Shirley is quite light (geddit), for one, making her horrible in strength-based fights. Her powers are also quite situational: at night she is essentially a lighthouse, making her powerset useless for stealthy encounters or night-time escapes.

NAME/TITLE: Gladio, Beacon

APPEARANCE: When masquerading as Beacon, Shirley wears a pair of aviator shades on her face, with her hair tied up in a bun held in place by two long, thin hairpins. She keeps the lower half of her face hidden by wearing a turtleneck shirt with the neck pulled up over her nose, underneath a navy blue hooded jacket. Her hands are adorned with fingerless biking gloves, and she wears loose jeans and running shoes on her legs and feet. Shirley regularly leaves the hood of her jacket up over her head. She also wears her sword and its sheath on the left side of her waist, clipped to her jeans.

TOOLS/WEAPONS:

• Her hands, often used as focuses for her light beams. She likes to have her hands in the shape of handguns, since the idea of "finger guns" firing actual laser beams amuses her.
• A replica Roman gladius, picked up from a metalworker in London. The sword is used by her as a power focus, often being used to fire sword beams or detonate bursts of light.

APPEARANCE

Vorian is not a particularly impressive specimen physically. His average 5 feet 10 inch height is thin but not muscular by any means. His hair is a pale faded brown and rather short and his face is slightly rounded with faded blue grey eyes and a rather thin lipped mouth. He has the sort of face that is easily overlooked in both a crowd and in person, though should you focus on his face there is something vaguely unsettling about it, a coldness that is the only element that really lingers in the mind. His body is average at best and weak at worst and the fact that he is constantly coughing and wheezing without his respirator does not help things. The other notable thing is that in terms of age he appears to be in his mid 30s at the oldest rather than the withered old corpse he should be by rights at his age.

Formerly Scientist.

LOCATION

Vorian is holed up within the compound that was formerly the research and development center as well as the arsenal for the past division teams. As it was his building and complex and is protected by all manner of weapons and technology such as defense drones, force fields, ect, the man has been left alone to his grief despite the events at the end of the war.

FAMILY/FRIENDS/OTHER

None, his only family was killed off in the invasion and few of his 'friends' are on speaking terms after the horrific casualties he inflicted on the human inhabitants of the city during the war.

ABILITIES/STRENGTHS

Genius- Vorian is beyond what most would expect in terms of raw intelligence even for a genius, he dwarfs most people by such a vast amount that they cannot truly comprehend the works that he is capable of doing.

Synthesis- Almost anything that Vorian can conceive is capable of being done through the use of a compound or device that he can create. Even if something should be impossible to create he is able to make it and once he has done so it can be mass produced or created again by another who could understand his incredibly complicated formulas and notes. So far almost no one has proven able to decipher and understand these things however. A note that many of his oldest compounds dating back to the First World War could be understood by highly gifted minds, however over time as he has delved deeper and deeper into his work and it has become more and more difficult for anyone else to even begin to comprehend what he is doing.

Immunity- Vorian is immune to all diseases and poisons ever devised by god or man. He cannot get sick, he cannot be poisoned, he cannot be irradiated, ect. This is a notably double edged sword as it also means he is immune to all forms of medication that could have beneficial effects. One that is particularly unpleasant is his immunity to painkillers.

VICES/WEAKNESSES

Half a Lung- Vorian has practically no endurance and is quickly exhausted after mere minutes of strenuous physical activity. He literally does only have half a lung remaining after several catastrophic injuries to his chest caused extreme damage. Even with his respirators and suit that aid in reducing the stress of physical activity he can only keep up strenuous physical efforts for perhaps a half hour at most.

Off Center Moral Compass- Vorian has a questionable understanding of what is right and what is wrong. His methods are often extreme and his testing and research methods have at many times in his long life been on the darker side of grey to say the least. While he made an effort to change and avoided such things for nearly 90 years, following the invasion and the death of a certain individual he has been slipping again to some degree.

BACKSTORY

History WIP

Vorian von Traupitz was born in 1887 in Berlin to the von Traupitz family. He was raised primarily in the family estates some distance outside of the city. His parents were not the sort to be particularly involved in raising their son. Though they were mystified at their only child's seeming inability to become ill when illnesses frequently swept the household. As time went on his other more bizarre tendencies drew more of their limited attention. Among them were habits of dissecting animals and a fascination with how things fundamental things in life really worked. And perhaps the most revealing of his future was the way the youth had an intense interest in diseases and afflictions. When individuals on the estates took ill he would always want to examine them, though in his childhood years he did not yet do more than record what he saw.

When he reached the appropriate age, Vorian was enrolled in a rather prestigious school of higher education in Berlin. His education at his own volition focused primarily on the areas that could be referred to as natural sciences. He was easily the most gifted student in that area at his school and was the top of his classes. After completing his education and being qualified as a doctor of medicine in addition to degrees in numerous other subjects such as chemistry and biology he, funded by university grants began to work on private projects.

These projects soon attracted government attention after an accident in his lab released a toxic yellow gas that killed several assistants leaving them blistered both outside and in. Immediately seeing potential military applications for Dr. Traupitz's research the Imperial German government promptly moved to fund his research, giving him a new facility in which to perform his experiments in hopes they could use the compounds that the man had begun to work on creating. Being a nationalist as well as a scientist Vorian was more than happy to assist his nation, the generous funding and private lab facilities also had something to do with it. Within a month after the government took over funding on his research and he was relocated to a private facility there was an accident. Officially Vorian was recorded to have died when a train he was supposedly riding derailed. In reality the Imperial German government, seeing the progress and potential of his work decided that he was an asset that had to be protected and no one would go hunting for a dead man. In a moment of irony he was referred to in communications as The Good Doctor given his propensity for developing lethal substances rather than healing. This coded way of referring to the man who was officially dead became official and persisted for years through several regime changes.

Prior to the outbreak of World War 1 the majority of Vorian's research and experimentation went unused and while the government had been eager to scoop up the potentially valuable resource little funding was directed in his direction. The Kaiser's grandiose dreams of a navy that would wrest dominion of the seas from England and other projects that were given far higher importance were prioritized. In the early stages of the war as well he was largely ignored and continued his experiments within the lab facilities provided for him. However this would change with the outbreak of chemical compounds and agents in the form of weapons during the war. While the initial use of tear gas first by the French and then later Germany as well was not related to him it's ineffectiveness led to the high command looking over its resources relating to the matter at hand. The Good Doctor's early research had focused on such things and the regular reports and experiment logs filed with them by the man made it clear his talents could be of great use in the war effort.

Of course he was willing to use his skills and creations to aid his nation and if there was some enthusiasm at the chance to finally test his early compounds on humans rather than lab animals his superiors overlooked it in light of the potential value and the fact that the stalemate was dragging on with no sign of ending. The Good Doctor was not the only individual to be brought in with this decision, others included Fritz Haber, who aided in the creation of designs for the early dispersal systems for gases and later Wilhelm Lommel who provided insights allowing his early blistering agent to be stabilized and mass produced more easily. Prior to the first large scale use of any of his compounds and his first real appearance on the stage of history Vorian devised what would become his signature mask and for the first time donned it. Though this was merely the first iteration of it and without all the revisions that would later be designed in.

He first was directly employed when high command ordered a test of the dispersal system he and his by this point subordinates had designed. On January 2nd 1915 the Good Doctor oversaw the first test of his dispersal system using a more dependable and less experimental gas, chlorine. While the initial test was effective it took several more months to fully prepare for wide-scale usage. In April of that year widescale use began, first at the second battle of Ypres where the Good Doctor personally oversaw it's use again.

Following these successes he petitioned high command to grant him access to prisoners for testing as he needed to further refine his own compounds for use. Due largely to his earlier success and the increasingly negative state of the war effort they agreed. The other eminent scientists who had worked with him previously disagreed violently with his methods but he carried on and from his facility came the first samples of what came to be known as mustard gas and other less publicized compounds. The Good Doctor's star continued to rise as nothing he created did not function and more resources were allotted.

As the war began to wind down a prisoner was brought to be experimented on. Exposed to a far more potent and difficult to refine version of the earlier mustard gas compound the man appeared to expire and then reappear unharmed. Vorian was surprised by this unexpected turn of events and set about investigating what he initially believed to be cellular regeneration. This theory however was debunked when samples from the man did not regenerate, though interestingly they also did not appear to age. While investigations into the nature of the man's strange ability continued, the Good Doctor rapidly began to use him as a control test for compounds. This did eventually end when in the process of a test with a member of high command present to observe the man somehow slipped his bonds as he healed and managed to escape, impaling the Good Doctor with the high command officer's sword.

While this event might have spelled death for a lesser man the Good Doctor did recover, his own knowledge of medicine and the human body allowed him to perform self surgery in an extreme feat of will and while he would forever after be plagued by shortness of breath and constant bouts of coughing Vorian von Traupitz did survive the encounter. Due to the injuries he sustained he preformed extensive modifications to his mask and using methods only he could work and understand created a method by which the mask could constantly feed him heightened amounts of oxygen to enable him to function at his earlier levels physically.

It did however take the Good Doctor months to fully recover and in those months the Entente powers or the WWI allies had forced the capitulation of Germany and its allies. With the end of Imperial Germany and the declaration of the Wiemar Republic in its place Vorian abruptly found himself a forgotten remnant of the old regime. In the light of the extensive restrictions placed on the German military and the reparations the government was forced to pay very little funding would find it's way to the Good Doctor's facility.

It was during this period of scarce resources, limited projects, and a long, slow, recovery from his grievous injuries that made a lot of his work difficult at best that he began to change to some degree. He had moved beyond the norm to the point that very few provided him with any meaningful stimuli. In truth he had begun to become rather aware of how alone he really was in the world. This sparked a new project, an effort to create another like him, whose mind was unbound and who had the ability to be an equal.

This project would consume nearly a decade before he finally succeeded at something that few would have imagined outside of fringe science fiction. Using his own DNA and select alterations he created an artificial human, a daughter of sorts who in time would come to become very important to him. It was soon after this breakthrough that the Nazi party rose to prominence in Germany. In time he was sought out by those who sought to use the weapons he had created previously. The Fuhrer himself even tasked Vorian with the creation of the perfected human.

While he did not agree with the Nazi views on things funding was funding and research was research and after such a long period of making do with scraps Vorian was more than willing to channel his research down the desired avenues.

Following the end of the Second World War, he along with his teenage daughter were brought to the United States and he narrowly escaped charges of war crimes by offering to put his services to use and bargaining away many of the secrets that allowed the construction of his early compounds and inventions. For many years after this trade that preserved his life and a degree of freedom he worked largely in secret with the companionship of his daughter who shared his gifts.

It was the rise of the 2nd Division in 1994 that first dragged him back into the light. He was informed that his participation was not voluntary and that he was to provide the team with his resources, to equip and arm them and to serve a supervising role due to his experience. A role that he would reprise many times as the various Divisions came and went up until the successful one. This one endured and as it endured he became more involved taking on something of an actual leadership role as the world came to view him as a hero instead of the threat he had been in the past.

His daughter was even inspired enough to enlist in the Division as a combatant, armored in a high tech suit of power armor and outfitted with weapons they had built over the years. Things were positive and even if the organization was somewhat corrupt and many did what they did for less than altruistic reasons Vorian had never been one to care much about the reasons so much as the science and the work itself, work that was facilitated by his position.

The alien invasion changed everything. The forces of the Division met the invaders, and it was a bloodbath. While he cared little about the other casualties there was one that struck him to the core, the one true companion he had in the world, his daughter. She died in the initial stages of the conflict, torn apart despite the shields, armor, and weapons that were supposed to protect her, and the others who had relied upon his technology fared no better.

It was enough to make the old man snap back to basics. Donning his own old suit and mask from the days of the World Wars and armed with the terror weapons of the old wars, and the updated versions he had worked on in secret he took to the field himself in the city. Horrific mutated monsters, strains of plague that killed in mere hours, nerve agents, and all manner of other horrors were unleashed indiscriminately upon the city and the aliens that had landed within it. But for all the human casualties, and all the twisted science of man's darkest wars unleashed, there was little effect save torpedoing the already sinking ship of the Division's credibility as one of the chief members slaughtered thousands in an attempt to damage the invaders.

Following the fall of the city Vorian retreated into the compound that had been reserved for his and his daughter's work and barricaded himself within. He has not been seen since.

The Good Doctor

APPEARANCE

As the Good Doctor Vorian dons his signature mask, created to his exact specifications nearly a hundred years ago. It in truth has some resemblance to a helmet rather than a mask and covers the entirety of his head. It has a total of 6 visor slits that glow red, there are three of these visor slits in front of each of his eyes. The mask itself is matte black in color though there are a few silver lines that mar the perfection of the paint, presumably from impacts over the years. He also wears a version of the uniform that was created for him during the second world war. It has some resemblance to a dress uniform of the time and has an officers cape that reaches the floor. This attire is crimson and black in color and includes black gloves and boots as well.

To list all of the Good Doctor's weapons would take far more space than is available. But he has a vast repertoire of resources at his disposal, some legitimate, many not so much.

The Good Doctor is the generalist creator, apart from his now deceased daughter Roswitha von Traupitz or Arsenal as she was known to the public, there was no one who could match his skill in creating things that really should not have been. While there have been others over the years with some gifts in creation none have been able to match his depth and skill. His technology is the best on the planet.

Vivek is considered somewhat on the short side for a male, standing at a very comfortable 5'9" though what he lacks in height he makes up in his weight; tight, corded muscles bringing him to around 175 pounds. This gives him an overall 'sturdy, solid' appearance which, depending if his arms are crossed or not, sometimes gives him off to be slightly intimidating. His eyes are a deep, rich brown color that sometimes look black and hardened depending on the amount of light though the rest of his facial features remain soft, even when angry. He prefers to keep his curly hair shoulder-length and his goatee neatly trimmed though he has been known to let his hair (including facial) go during the more rougher patches in his life. Wardrobe wise, Vivek alters between two different styles depending on where he is located. Ability
Vivek learned at a very young age that he could manipulate matter. What started out as being able to fill an empty cup with water to now being able to shift the entire molecular structure of various astronomical features, Vivek's only real limitation stems from his knowledge of science and chemistry. He has learned indefinitely by now that everything within the universe that has a substance, mass and physical form can be manipulated by shifting different molecules and atoms within the form.

Adept Mind
Vivek has a certain sense of 'old wisdom' about him, making him appear to be older than he is when he speaks openly with his mind. He is patient in all things, able to keep his anger suppressed even under the most strenuous of times putting up a cool and collected front despite his inner struggles or current stresses.

He was also born with an adept mind in the field of science, amplified when at a young age he discovered his powers and thirsted to learn more. With all of the formulas and methods he had to study while in school, Vivek is able to comprehend, memorize and remember more than most people, able to retrieve information from his long-term memory as though he had just learned about it a few days ago. He is also a speed reader, able to read over a thousand words per minute and remembers about eighty-five percent of what he reads.

Because of Vivek's early years spent on his family's farm, he also has a wide knowledge of different animals, ranging from sheep to livestock and though he doesn't particularly talk about this skill, there has been a time or two when he was able to help a friend's sick pet or even helping a sheep give birth.

Skilled Torturer
Perhaps one of the skills Vivek possesses that he will absolutely refuse to use unless there is no other option, Vivek has a wide knowledge of torturous methods that could get someone to talk if they are withholding information. This skill was something accidentally learned by the oncoming years since his adolescence. It started small as Vivek was most usually the one picked on in school for being 'not like the others' which resulted in beatings in the street and other 'bullying' acts and even sexual hazing. But despite Vivek growing older, the 'pick on me' sign was never truly removed from him as even in the field, he was often times captured and tortured for information. Because of his strong memory, Vivek can recall every time, place, and method in which he was tortured in, but more importantly, he remembered how it was done, and how to repeat it.

In his more quiet moments, when not hitting the books or writing thesis papers, Vivek can be caught with a pencil in hand and sketching graphite drawings in great detail on whatever piece of paper he can find, though notably, he does have a small art room within his home and a plethora of pads and paper in which he expels this relaxing hobby to his fullest potential. His favored style is black and white realism and usually depicts either animals or people.

Having been born in India, Vivek knows the majority of the languages spoken there such as Hindi, Bengali, Marathi, Urdu, Gujarati, Punjabi, Assamese and Odia among some others. Also having spent an ample amount of time in America, Vivek has learned and can use English fluently though has been unable to lose his natural accent when speaking the language

VICES/WEAKNESSES:

Knowledgeable limitations
As stated above under 'ability' Vivek's ability is limited to that of which he knows. As a kid, his knowledge was hindered to the molecular construct of water (H2O) and to turn it into air, had to remove the two hydrogen molecules. This can get very complex when wanting to turn something like an iron bar into water, as the molecular structures further down the periodic table and beyond, get more and more complex and though he has been exersizing his ability for a number of years now, is still learning things about it.

Strength of the mind
For Vivek, something as simple as pulling a couple hydrogen molecules from an object and pushing it into a single Oxygen molecule to create water is just as easy as taking a breath - literally. Depending on how strenuous and complex the conversion, Vivek feels the recoil in a physical form - expelling the same amount of energy from his body that was made to create it. This can get rather dangerous as there have been a few occasions in which Vivek was sure he could do something, only to pass out in the middle of the process as it was simply too much for his mind and body to handle at once.

Kind heart
Vivek, despite his somewhat hardened physical appearance (mostly because of his skin color and racial stereotypes) has an exceptionally soft heart and a deep respect for human life. If ever faced with a decision to kill someone who has done wrong, no matter the extremities, Vivek will always seek an alternative solution, even if he knows that person will one day come back and harm someone else. His mind always takes them to the feelings of loved ones, unable to rob a father from a child, or a sister from a brother. He is a firm believer of second chances, and thirds, and fourths...

Reserved nature
Vivek is no leader type, preferring to stay along the sidelines and watch rather than engage in an important, ongoing conversation (unless it pertains to science or other fields he is proficient in, in which case he would quietly bring up a suggestion). He is quiet in speech and short with his words, much preferring the solace of his own mind to a room full of loud, talkative friends.

BACKSTORY:

Before The Third Division

Vivek was born the first child into a small, farming family in Chennai, India in 1982. A few years later, his sister Rashmi was born and their little family was complete. The children were taught at a very young age how to work on their family's farm. Vivek was given the more manual labored tasks on the farm, which quickly put muscle onto the otherwise scrawny kid, helping to shape him into a healthy, muscular teenager. He was not like the other boys at his school, however, and despite his toned body, often time was bullied, harassed, and even sexually hazed. Vivek's reserved personality, hating the idea of confrontation and not quite sure how to stand up for himself, simply let it happen. But he remembered. He remembered everything.

Around the time of his sixteenth birthday, Vivek was pouring over his chemistry books, studying with fever as he aimed to be one of the best students in school for promises of a bright future that would take him away from the farm life. Thirsty, but not wanting to leave his room, Vivek imagined his empty cup filling, even going as far as to break the molecular structure down into basic parts, seeing that there was already air in the cup and needing two Hydrogen molecules. His dire thirst, coupled with his scientific mind, suddenly made it happen. Water filled his cup and the boy was completely beside himself. He was already strange enough as it was, even amongst his own family, so he dare not utter a word, but from that point on, Vivek dedicated himself to the field of science and chemistry in hopes that he would be able to learn more.

It was just a few years after that, that Vivek decided that he wanted to become a Chemistry Teacher at the University of Madras - quite the reputable college located in his very own home city. It kept him from having to stray too far from home and able to keep an eye on his mother who was taking the sudden death of his father very hard. He studied hard, got good grades, and progressively landed himself a Chemistry teaching position at the school.

During these years in his very comfortable life, his younger sister got married and had a child. He grew incredibly close with his nephew starting from the very day he was born and began to truly understand what it was to have and love a close family and decided that even though his life was busy as a college professor, he wanted one of his own and started looking for a suitable wife.

The Third Division

Unfortunately for Vivek, finding love would have to wait. 2003 came and World War 3 set in. Answering a letter from the science division in America as there was a severe need of learned scientists to help their cause, Vivek journeyed across the world to put in his expertise, all the while keeping his psychogenerative ability under wraps. Despite his youthful age of 21, Vivek was in high-standing with the other scientists in America and quickly expanded his contacts, accidentally stumbling upon The Third Division. He knew that there were others like him out in the world, but it wasn't until then that he had ever actually met anyone like him. Figuring he could do better as the 3rd Division's scientist, Vivek joined the team, and though he mostly spent his time by giving them his mind, he did spend a little of it going out on the field with them and being involved in a more physical sense.

Unfortunately for Vivek, his years of being bullied and hazed hadn't ended in school. Vivek was out on the field, alone, trying to gather information for the team when he was jumped, beaten, and taken prisoner in an attempt to expose the psychogeneratives. Six months Vivek was contained and tortured in an effort for Vivek to reveal what he knew about the Division and those involved within it. As Vivek was not from America himself, those who had captured him were unable to put an identity to him, rendering it impossible to even figure out who he was involved with and through Vivek's iron will, his captors learned nothing about him or his teammates. Vivek, on the off-hand, did learn the techniques they used to torture him, putting it in a place in the back of his mind to be able to use himself if a day ever called for it. But it was not easy. Finally, after six months, Vivek got his chance for escape, using his ability to 'melt' his cage until the iron became little more than wet tissue and fled.

World War 3 was coming to a quick end, and Vivek, despite his new jitters, saw the year through but was only too happy to return to India once it was all over. It took a bit before Vivek felt like his feet were back on solid ground, but eventually life resumed and Vivek, once more a Chemistry Professor, extended what he learned with the Third Division and helped those out within his small town, working behind the scenes to ensure that everyone was safe, happy, and with criminals put in their proper place. In America, he went and dressed as the name given to him by a teammate - The Iron Atom, though back at home, he remained unmasked but did his deeds much more subtly, not needing the disguise (things would only get suspicious if 'Atom' was in America and then suddenly in India at the same time he returned to work).

Roughly a few years later, in 2010, Vivek finally met the woman he had been so determined to discover in his younger days before The Third Division. A lovely woman, a few years younger than he (now 28) working as a librarian in one of the libraries he frequented (save for the college's). Upon meeting her, Vivek had forgotten about his idea of his own family; it seemed like generations ago when he was that person and marriage wasn't as high a priority now as it was then... Until Vivek found out that she was pregnant with his child.

The promise to marry Lela was always there, however his life as a college professor and part-time open-faced hero took over a lot of his time and before he knew it, Gita was born. Life took over from there, serving now as a professor, a vigilante, and a father. A husband, apparently, he just wasn't meant to be as well.

The Fifth Division

Seven years later, just as life seemed to be settling down and Vivek was getting used to juggling the various roles required of him, Vivek was approached by an old teammate from The Third Division, asking him once more for his help. Unable to say no, Vivek once more left his home to aid those he had helped during World War 3 and once again offered up his mind and skills for the greater good. He hated to leave his seven year-old daughter behind, as well as her mother, but Lela consoled him, let him know that it was okay and to go and help where he could. However, only a single year passed before Vivek received a letter from home and abruptly left without a word to anyone. He was in such a hurry that he left the left the letter behind, and those who read it would have understood that his girlfriend, the mother of his child, inexplicably left without a word, leaving his daughter to the streets who was later then found and picked up by his mother.

When Vivek got home, he learned that while Gita was on her own for the week or so before his mother found her, she picked up a deadly blood disease and was forced to watch as she slowly succumbed to death. No amount of research or experimenting he did could have saved her, but not once did he give up until the moment her last breath passed her lips. She was 8 years old.

Currently

Vivek still resides in his home country and after taking off a year or so in mourning for the life of his precious child, his own life began to resume and he once more took up teaching though he became much more reserved, much more quiet, much more into his research. He hasn't even lifted a finger to find out what happened to the mother of his child, knowing already that the fault lay with him because he had been gone so much and unable to be there for them in the way that she wanted. As far as he is concerned, the woman is dead and justifiably so as it was because of her that his child was lost to him forever.

NAME/TITLE: The Iron Atom (Some call him Atom for short - pronounced 'Adam' -)

APPEARANCE:

Vivek keeps his costume dark with a small splash of purple color for the finer detailed accents. He prefers functionality over cosmetic appeal - liking the element of being able to run in a sturdy pair of shoes and fluid movement with easy-to-wear pants. He keeps his identity (and dark-skinned complexion) concealed by a thick hood that masks his face into the shadows, it's rigid outline keeping it from flexing and billowing under certain circumstances.

TOOLS/WEAPONS:
Although Vivek isn't particularly trained in it, he keeps a retractable bo-staff strapped to his back which he is able to pull and manipulate into a material or object he deems necessary for whatever project he is currently working on and sometimes, just sometimes, he uses it for hitting people.
Small syringes of a yellow liquid take up the inside pouches of his belt that, if feeling fatigued when expelling his ability too much, he will inject into his blood stream for a quick boost of adrenaline.

TRADEMARKS:
Vivek comes from India and is strongly, physically such. He has the dark skin, curly dark hair and thick accent that stand him apart from most everyone within America, let alone The Division.

It’s hard to believe the exhausted, overweight brunette calling herself Kelsey Smith was once one of the most beloved psychogeneratives in both America and the United Kingdom. Samantha, or Kelsey depending on who she's talking to, looks like she’s been through a war. Standing at 5’8” and weighing nearly 220 pounds, the tanned woman has completely let herself go, though her hair and teeth are in remarkably good shape. For whatever that’s worth. The thirty-one year old wears her hair long in hopes of framing her round, doughy face in the best way possible. An adorable button nose, once the envy of women across the world, stands out as one of Samantha’s few redeeming features. Her pale blue eyes also have a certain pull to them. There is a weariness, and no small amount of fear, lurking in the gaze of the woman they used to call the Masked Magician. Even her puffy features can’t conceal the look of guilt etched across her face, and her overall physique suggests this is someone who saw something that nearly broke her. Maybe it should have. Moving past Sammy’s ample bust, a sizable gut has taken up residence around the former superheroine’s midsection. Wide hips and flabby, cellulite-studded legs ending in oddly dainty feet complete the image of a woman who no longer understands the meaning of the words “discipline” or “moderation.” Typically, Kelsey can be seen wearing whatever clothes she has on hand, which means wrinkly t-shirts that barely fit and sweatpants covered in old stains.

Thomas Raynor-Samantha's father, a timid and unassuming man often overshadowed by his more driven and aggressive wife, was briefly in the spotlight once his daughter's secret identity was revealed, had no interest in becoming a media sensation and quickly faded into obscurity, Gina divorced him soon after, found Samantha in a homeless shelter after the events of AW1 and rented a small apartment with her in Orlando, currently lives with his daughter and is trying to be a better father

Alistair Crowley, also known as the Gray Man and the Curious Mr. Crowley (Deceased)-A skilled British Marked One who trained both Samantha Raynor and Stefan Anderson, came up with the term "Marked One" to differentiate between various types of psychics, a person possessing pyrokinesis would be referred to as someone "marked by fire" or a flame-marked, created "Crowley's Method" to spread his beliefs about being careful with one's powers and not hurting civilians, practiced hemokinesis and electrokinesis while serving in the Fourth, Fifth, and Sixth Divisions, encountered Samantha as a child and started her down the path that would lead to her becoming Kazara, after an argument the Gray Man dismissed Sammy in 2021 and they didn't reunite until AW1, Alistair died towards the beginning of the conflict

Stefan Anderson, also known as White Hat (Missing, Presumed Deceased)-A British Marked One who studied under Alistair Crowley alongside Samantha Raynor, wore a white top hat no matter where he was or what he was doing, skilled in hydrokinesis and was working on mastering his chlorokinesis abilities before AW1, never officially accepted into any divisions despite his close ties with both the Gray Man and Kazara due to his obsession with fame, Sammy's best friend and many American and British gossip magazines believed they were a couple, vanished after Alien War 1 and is believed to have died alongside his mentor

Skills/Strengths

Pyrokinesis-Samantha Raynor is a Marked One, meaning she's a psychic with a very specific set of abilities. She cannot move things with her mind or read another person's thoughts. What she can do is control certain elements of the world around her through sheer willpower. Sammy is capable of wielding the forces of shadow and flame thanks to her innate gifts. Utilizing her pyrokinesis, the stronger of her two powers, the Masked Magician can control any source of fire she wishes and, if given enough time, can create flame from nothing. This is obviously more draining than using an existing fire. Fireballs, pillars of blue flame, and even wreathing herself in a crackling aura of fire are all abilities in Sammy's repertoire. She's also completely flame resistant. One of the foci she owns, the Ring of Flames, allows most of her pyrokinetic abilities to melt through anything short of solid steel.

Umbrakinesis-Besides pyrokinesis, Sammy was also born with the ability to manipulate shadows with her thoughts. She can force pools of shadow to harden into a durable substance known as crystalline darkness, which is sharp enough to pierce tank armor. One of her most well-known and useful umbrakinetic talents is the shadow disc, which creates a manhole-sized disc of crystalline darkness that can fly Sammy to any location she desires. It became Samantha's primary form of transportation between the United Kingdom and America during the peak of her fame. Another ability the Masked Magician has tried to master, but hasn't performed successfully, is the so-called shadow step. This power allows Sammy to step from one shadow to another as long as she can see her intended destination. However, this involves passing into what the superheroine could only describe as "the deepest darkness I've ever seen" and she was terrified of it. The Curious Mr. Crowley was trying to alleviate Sammy's fear before their falling out in 2021. The Ring of Shadows, a mighty foci given to the Masked Magician by Alistair Crowley, further amplifies the psychogenerative's impressive talents.

Power Sensing-Like all other Marked Ones, Samantha can sense when other psychogeneratives are within one mile of her current location. She cannot tell what gifts these individuals might possess, but she knows they have them. This talent has served her well throughout her life despite its limited range. Especially when it came to evading former members of the Sixth Division. Sammy's power sense cannot be blocked except by a psychogenerative with a power specifically intended to cloak their gifts.

Other Skills-Has a high drug and alcohol tolerance, one of the finest cooks in the Fourth, Fifth, and Sixth Divisions, was trained from a young age as a gymnast and can move well for a woman of her size, trained in basic hand-to-hand combat by White Hat but is out of practice

Weaknesses/Vices

Whether it's food, drugs, or fame, Samantha has always struggled with self-discipline and resisting her gluttonous impulses. After spending time in rehab, she's largely kicked her drug habits, though the former superheroine does get intense cravings every now and again. Sammy also never quite got over her need for alcohol, and she drinks as often as she is able. This habit becomes more pronounced during moments of intense stress or emotional turmoil. Regrettably, this has led to her becoming substantially overweight, and it's difficult for her to engage in extended periods of physical activity. In addition, she's constantly tormented by horrific dreams of AW1 and the Curious Mr. Crowley's demise. It's rare for Sammy to sleep more than a few hours a night unless she's blackout drunk. Lastly, the way Samantha was raised makes her easy to manipulate and her guilt over past events has only made this worse.

Backstory

Samantha Raynor's life began in the usual way. Born on March 5th, 1993 to Gina and Thomas Raynor, she seemed destined to be nothing more than the daughter of an anxious, meek father and a bullying, loud-mouthed mother. Gina's dream was to have her daughter become an Olympic gymnast like she'd almost been. And nothing would stop her from making this vision a reality. Sammy's days were filled with school, homework, and a rigorous training regimen intended to keep her in the best condition possible. In truth, the young girl was more interested in reading stories and watching old news reports about the activities of the famous Second Division. She must have watched The Fall of the Cult of Desecration, a movie depicting the division's battle against Desecration, at least twenty times before she was eight.

It wasn't until her ninth birthday, when her family was visiting Plant City to enjoy the Florida Strawberry Festival, that everything changed.

In the festival's lackluster midway area, Sammy found herself drawn to a game of four cup shuffle run by a gray-haired man with horn-rimmed glasses and a warm smile on his face. The stranger introduced himself as the Curious Mr. Crowley, a tourist from London hoping to taste the sweetest and juiciest strawberries in the world. And to eat as much strawberry ice cream as he could stomach. There was an immediate bond between this charming British man and the inquisitive Sammy, and she was eager to try her luck at four cup shuffle. The rules were simple. Four cups and two rings. All the nine-year old needed to do was figure out which cups had rings underneath. Shockingly, she guessed correctly. His eyes twinkling merrily, the Curious Mr. Crowley handed Samantha her prizes: an octagonal ring of the finest onyx and a hexagonal ring of citrine. The Ring of Shadows and the Ring of Flames. Clasping the child's tiny hands in his large, scarred ones, the elderly Englishman told Samantha he was quite pleased and, if she still wanted to be a hero, he might be able to help her. He would send her a letter when she was older and wait for her response. If she was no longer interested then she needn't reply.

Time passed as it always does and the Third Division, in what was to be their finest hour, ended North Korea's dreams of conquest during World War III. With her mother focused on sending her to a college that wouldn't interfere with gymnastics, Sammy's life didn't feel particularly different. And then she received a letter from the Curious Mr. Crowley on July 5th, 2011. According to this letter, Samantha was a "Marked One," a psychic with specific but formidable abilities. Abilities that could change the world around her in ways both great and small. The Curious Mr. Crowley wanted to train the young psychogenerative and possibly submit her to the newly formed Fourth Division as a potential member. In light of the recent war, Samantha's parents were concerned about sending her outside the United States to meet some man she barely knew. Surprisingly, it was Gina who, after reading the letter several times, declared this might actually be a brilliant idea. Sammy was ecstatic, but her father was concerned. In all their years of marriage, Gina had rarely changed her mind...unless she stood to benefit in some way.

Despite her father's misgivings, Samantha boarded a plane and flew to London to meet Mr. Crowley at his palatial estate outside the city. He introduced her to his only other student, the glory-obsessed but dashing Stefan Anderson, and gave the young psychogenerative his grimoire, which contained a list of mantras and techniques to help her channel her abilities. Alistair explained that Sammy was "marked by flames and shadows," and the rings he'd given her as a child would strengthen her powers. There was a method, however, called "Crowley's Method," that would separate Samantha from all the other superheroes and heroines with psychic abilities. It was simple but vitally important. First, you speak a channeling mantra, a phrase composed of psychically reactive words, in order to awaken your gift and delineate what you want to accomplish. After the mantra was spoken you would channel your willpower through your foci. The Rings of Shadows and Flames served this purpose admirably. Forcing a torrent of psychic energy through these objects was safer than simply lashing out with raw, uncontrolled power, though it was also harder. Thus, a Marked One needed to have a sharp wit and a healthy body in order to properly use their abilities.

Samantha remained in London for two years until the winter of 2013 when a group of Marked Ones attacked Walt Disney World of all places. Supposedly, an ancient and powerful foci was hidden beneath Cinderella's Castle, and the so-called Hidden Cabal intended to claim it for themselves. Unfortunately, the Fourth Division was too busy trying to deal with the re-emergence of the Cult of Desecration to attend to this minor issue. Deciding to test his new students, the Curious Mr. Crowley, accompanied by Stefan and Samantha, flew to the United States to deal with these rogue psychics. The Emerald Witch, Voldo, and the savage He Who Watches All were defeated and imprisoned after a lengthy battle, which ended with Walt Disney World closing for nearly twelve years. Still, the Curious Mr. Crowley, Stefan, and Samantha prevailed. It was after this momentous conflict, which became known as the Battle of Walt Disney World, that the Gray Man gave Samantha her "hero name" since he knew she didn't want her true identity to become public. For her family's sake. He dubbed her Kazara the Masked Magician after the woman who'd opened his eyes to his own gifts.

After Sammy briefly returned to the United States in 2014 to reunite with her parents the Curious Mr. Crowley presented her to the Fourth Division. Desperate for aid against the Cult of Desecration's madness, the leaders of the group accepted her, though the Gray Man also convinced them to let Samantha continue training while assisting the division. Despite realizing all her dreams, however, something changed as Kazara returned to London to resume her education. The media swarmed all over this mysterious young woman in a silver mask and, despite the warnings and rebukes of her mentor, Samantha fell headfirst into the dangerous mire of television talk shows, commercials, and partying with celebrities. Stefan, her closest friend at this point, nurtured this behavior and ensured she enjoyed every event she attended. After all, Kazara's popularity was doing wonders for his own reputation. As her following in London increased, Kazara often rode on her shadow disc between England and the United States alongside her master and Stefan to help the Fourth Division deal with the Cult of Desecration.

Then the Fourth Legion disbanded after the world realized what Sung Jin Lee had done.

While hiding in Mr. Crowley's estate to avoid persecution, Kazara received a surprise visit from her parents. Gina told Sammy she needed to come home. Not because she was afraid of what might happen if someone found out her daughter was a psychogenerative. No, Gina was convinced the Masked Magician could change the opinion of the entire United States. She was a fresh face, more known in England than in America, and this might be enough to show the world not all psychogeneratives were like Sung Jin Lee. After agreeing to try it and accepting her mom as her talent agent, Sammy nervously returned to the United States, leaving a furious and worried Mr. Crowley behind. Surprisingly, Gina's father and several of his close friends were movie producers at Redwood Studios. They were already talking about making a trilogy of movies about this new psychogenerative, an untainted soul standing strong in the face of Sung Jin Lee's brutality and lack of commitment to justice. Commercials, more talk shows, and constant partying became the norm for Samantha once more. While the overall attitude towards gifted men and women didn't change, the viewing public saw this lovely, charming new superheroine as a beacon of hope in these dark times. If Kazara was popular in London she was revered in certain parts of the United States, especially Florida and California. Of course, the stress of being a psychogenerative celebrity in a time when her kind were barely tolerated drove Kazara to embrace excess. Slowly but surely, her lifestyle began to take a toll on her body and her mind. While she eagerly joined the Fifth Division when it formed in August of 2018, Kazara's priorities were painfully obvious. She was more interested in her new status as a cultural icon than helping people.

Encouraged by her mother's reassurances, Samantha gradually stopped caring about anything except her reputation. The Curious Mr. Crowley visited her often and tried to continue training his wayward pupil, though a brutal argument ended their relationship in 2021. And then the aliens came.

All Fifth Division members, now called the Sixth Division, gathered to combat the alien menace and Kazara was forced to go. What would her adoring public think if she didn't participate in the coming battle? The fighting progressed slowly and horribly. Each day saw the loss of more and more division members, which took a serious toll on the Masked Magician's psyche. While she'd been peripherally involved with the war against the returned Cult of Desecration, this was different. This was personal, and Sammy lost many dear friends to the invaders. It wasn't until that final, awful battle in Canada that Samantha Raynor realized just how far she'd fallen. Mr. Crowley and White Hat were pinned down by several aliens, calling out for Kazara to help them. She flew towards them on her shadow disc and...stopped. Fear, mind-numbing and complete, washed over her, and the aliens obliterated the Curious Mr. Crowley. With a scream of terror and guilt, Samantha fled for her life and didn't stop until she was back home in Orlando. That was Kazara's contribution to Alien War 1.

After her less-than-triumphant return home, Sammy realized things had changed while she'd been away. Her mother, a cruel smirk on her face, told her daughter she intended to divorce Thomas. Furthermore, Gina had also taken the rights to the name and image of Kazara away from her out-of-control brat of a daughter. Gina's grin grew even wider as she opened the door to the family home, revealing a living room packed with eager reporters. Reporters who now knew Kazara's true identity. The name "Samantha Raynor" quickly became a byword for cowardice, the consequences of excess, and what it meant to fall from grace. Traumatized by this and other recent events, Samantha checked herself into rehab and emerged in 2022 only to find herself penniless and forgotten. The world only cared about Kazara and what she represented. Nobody cared about the woman behind the mask. Out of desperation, Sammy reached out to an old contact in Washington and was able to change her name to Kelsey Smith. She dyed her hair brown and did her best to hide from the world as well as any remaining division members.

A few weeks later, however, her father found Sammy in a local homeless shelter and offered her a place to stay. For the next two years, Thomas tried to help his shell-shocked and despondent child get back on her feet. Sadly, the loss of Mr. Crowley and the realization of her own cowardice scarred Samantha deeply. While she avoided doing drugs, Sammy quickly fell back on her oldest, dearest vice: drinking. Now, in 2024, the thirty-one year old psychogenerative finally feels ready to try moving on with her life. The key word being "try." Even as the public celebrates the release of Kazara: The Beginning in theatres, Samantha is doing her best to forget the past. To lock it away just like she locked away Mr. Crowley's grimoire and her two rings.

Divisions Involved With: The Fourth, Fifth, and Sixth Divisions

Appearance

Before giving up her life as a superheroine, Kazara's costume consisted of a blue gymnast's leotard, black slacks, and black boots. She also wore a dark blue hoodie from time to time, and her face was hidden behind a smiling silver mask. The psychogenerative never allowed her face to be seen in public no matter how drunk or high she was. Luckily, Stefan Anderson, also known as White Hat, was willing to help her maintain her secret identity despite his love of the limelight. Of course, the Masked Magician would be nothing without her two foci, the Ring of Shadows and the Ring of Flames. The Ring of Shadows could always be found on Kazara's right index finger while the Ring of Flames adorned her left. Since moving in with her father, however, this costume has lain untouched in the bottom of "Kelsey Smith's" closet alongside a locked strongbox containing Alistair Crowley's grimoire and the two rings.

Tools/Weapons

The Ring of Shadows-An octagonal ring made of pure onyx, which is one of the most psychically reactive materials in the world. Alistair Crowley claims to have found this potent foci inside an Egyptian tomb deep within the Valley of the Kings. Since the Gray Man only possessed the gifts of hemokinesis and electrokinesis, he kept the ring safely locked in a vault beneath his London estate until he stumbled upon a nascent Marked One who was "marked by shadows." That Marked One was a young Samantha Raynor. The Curious Mr. Crowley gave Samantha the ring and trained her in its use over several years. While wearing the Ring of Shadows, Sammy's innate ability to psychically manipulate shadows is greatly strengthened and she can actually create shadows where there aren't any. This is a very draining process, however. Without the boost provided by this foci, the Masked Magician must use whatever naturally occurring shadows are close at hand. It should be noted that Samantha can still use umbrakinesis without the Ring of Shadows. The foci just makes her already formidable gifts more potent.

The Ring of Flames-A dull, hexagon-shaped citrine ring that once belonged to the monstrous villain known only as He Who Watches All. The Curious Mr. Crowley took this foci from the hideous psychogenerative in 1990 during a raid on his stronghold in Germany's Black Forest. This ring was also given to Samantha Raynor by the Gray Man when she was young since he was incapable of using it. Utilizing its power, the former superheroine's gift for controlling fire with her mind is amplified, and any flame under her control turns a brilliant shade of blue. She can also conjure flame from nothing, though this is much harder to do than using a readily available fire. Again, Samantha is still capable of astonishing pyrokinetic feats when not wearing the Ring of Flames.

Alistair Crowley's Grimoire-A black, leather-bound journal containing pages and pages of notes about everything from channeling mantras to a delicious recipe for fried chicken. This book was given to Samantha Raynor by the Gray Man when she first visited him in London. Crowley's Method is also thoroughly explained in the crinkly, yellowed pages of this chapbook. Essentially, imagine trying to bend a spoon with your mind. Instead of pummeling the spoon with your telekinetic abilities, the Curious Mr. Crowley believed it was necessary to meditate until you discovered a mantra for bending objects. Then and only then could you bend the spoon. Over the years, Sammy added her own mantras and thoughts to this journal, though she hasn't touched it in over two years.

−Benjamin Wordsley (Particle)-His father, aged 76, was part of the Second Division and all the subsequent ones until the Sixth Division. He would say he would retire after every Division but never did until in the AW1 after he got injured and retired properly.
−Sharon Heely-Henry’s aunt (Benjamin’s sister) that knows about Benjamin’s powers. She would look after Henry whenever Benjamin was off fighting crime, which was fairly often. He often wondered if Sharon acted like a mother would but decided probably not due to her eccentricity.
-Alex Connolly-His partner and the only guy Henry would call a friend. A caffeine addict he is norammlyy always with a coffee cup in hand. He saved Henry's life once by tackling a a crazy knife wielding man.
-Clifford-his pet St Bernard. A gentle giant that is a great listener to Henry's theories about cases.
-Cypher-An anonymous computer expert/hacker. Henry has never met Cypher in real life. But Henry does get phone calls and packages from Cypher describing a new mission for Elemental to carry out. He has never spoken with Henry with his real voice and has never sent a handwritten letter leading Henry to suspect he has an extensive criminal record and does not want to be captured. With tendril of code into nearly all government organisations he provides info and support when telling Elemental on a mission.

ABILITIES/STRENGTHS:
−Elemental control-Able to control the elements of Air, Water, Fire and Earth. Depending on the conditions he is fighting in one element might be stronger e.g. if its raining there is a lot of water so he would fight better with water. Although he is has reasonable control and skill fighting with the elements, it still drains him physically and requires a fair amount of concentration. To counteract the drain of energy he normally keeps some high energy snack bars to eat.
−Deduction-Using minimal facts, a highly imaginative mind and a good sense of working out a story he can find out information that most normal people would skip over.
−Can do close up magic. Great for distracting adults and children alike while his partner looks for clues. A lot relies on the fact that he uses his powers but some is done by just practice alone.
−Decent cook. Loves cooking Asian and Italian cuisines. Still hasn’t got a girl to try his food.
−Knows a tone of random facts on many topics, from history to science to art. None of these facts are useful but they are interesting slightly.

BACKSTORY: Born in London to Benjamin and Emily Wordsley, Henry was the first and last child to be born to them. His mother died a few hours after childbirth and so Henry grew up without a mother. From a young age he knew his father was different. It was small things like how he cleaned the dishes using high-energy laser, or how he would never wear a coat no matter how cold it was, or that one time he managed to get rid of the snow on their driveway in around 3 second. Small things.

When his dad saw Henry set fire to his bed one day he confirmed what he had feared for a while. Henry also had powers. Benjamin began a long process of training Henry to master his powers and taught him how to keep them hidden. Henry got in some trouble at school for using his power like when swimming (he would move the water to swim quicker) or in cricket (when he changed the air currents so the ball would be caught) or in rugby (where he would be impossible to tackle due to making the ground shift).

Whenever his father was called upon to join the Divisions Henry was sent to live with his aunty Sharon and would watch the news about the Superhero’s saving the world. He would always look out for his father and would call to his aunt to come and watch. He became his dads closest admirer and even when he grew up and became a police officer he did so, so he could be like his dad. A hero. A person that saved people. At the age of 18 as soon as he finished his GCSE’s he applied to become a police officer, only just making it through the basic training due to not being as fit as the other candidates. The one place he excelled in was the written and knowledge exams and that is what balanced out his fitness marks. Two years out of basic police training he was shot in a drug bust gone wrong, once in his right lung and once in his leg shattering the femur. While in hospital he was told that his injuries prohibited form returning to police duty. Still wanting to protect people he made a interesting career change, he became a detective. Applying to the detectives course he passed top of his class, mostly due to the fact that detectives didn’t need high physical skills and more mental skills. As one of the youngest detectives on the London force, only aged 21, he was often given the basic cases until he proved himself one day on a dud case. This led to Henry being given harder cases. Training his mind his powers of deduction became well known for solving hard to solve crimes. He proceeded to continue his job until 6 years ago, aged 28, when he quit his job temporarily to join the Fifth Division.

When the Fifth Division was called on his father recommended he join up as a trial. Henry joined up and fought alongside his father and many other division members. When the alien ships were noticed Henry and his father both responded to the call. It was while defending the Canadian city in the first hour that Benjamin fell of the roof of a house and fell on a car, shattering his hip. Due to this injury Benjamin retired with Henry taking his position in the Sixth Division. Henry helped stop the alien invasion seeing some strong supers die as well. This fact scared Henry and he was unsure whether he would be able to sign up for the next Division. When the aliens left Henry returned to London and reapplied for his job as a detective and continued working as a detective. He often has nightmares about AW1 but has keeps them to himself.

DIVISIONS BELONGING TO: He knew of all the Divisions, because his father used to tell him stories of them, and was part of the Fifth Division as a trial. He was called to join the Sixth Division during AW1 alongside his father. He now belongs to the Seventh Division.

APPEARANCE: standing at just under six feet, Merle is a fairly lanky woman, lacking a curvaceous figure. Her body is a thin, wiry one, her skin having taken on the idea of aging a little too comfortably. Wrinkles have begun to appear across her face and hands, something Merle still feels is much too early.

It's not often that Merle grows her hair out, having taken to keeping it short and neatly combed, brushing her bangs off to the side and forming a nice part. It's ruthlessly unmanageable, however, often resorting in something of a bird's nest messily perched on top of her head. As of a decade ago her hair began to gray. It's something she's learned to embrace rather than hide. She never understood the need for women to pretend they weren't getting on in age.

- Maurine Moreau: Merle’s mother; once employed as a nurse and taking pride in aspiring to be Housewife of the Year on the side, Maurine Moreau was a sweet, mild-tempered woman with a secretive competitive streak. And the other stay-at-home housewives on their block were her pet peeve. Maurine remained a strong role model throughout Merle’s life, even after her death. Maurine ultimately died at the age of 73 due to lung cancer;
- Malcolm Moreau: the breadwinner and all-around good man, Malcolm Moreau was a tall, handsome man with a penchant for fast cars and big machines. Taking on multiple jobs throughout his life, Malcolm balanced his workaholism and stability in his family’s life moderately well, though the stress got to him in his later years. He died at the age of 49 in a car crash;
- Marcella Moreau: Merle’s fifty-six-year-old sister, mother of six, and recent divorcee. Marcella was the daughter the Moreau’s always wanted: girly, nose always in a book, eyes always to the sky. Successful, ambitious, driven and strong-willed, Marcella was the first and only of their family to attend college. When it became known that Merle was a psychogenerative, Marcella was the only family member to initially support her sister. She currently resides in Kansas having found minor fame as a published author;

ABILITIES:
- Telekinesis: having honed the ability over several decades, Merle has even gone on to grapple with telekinesis on a microscopic level. Rather than feel just the sheet of paper itself, Merle can feel the fibres composing paper and, with effort, unravel each strand. Granted, it’s not her strong point, and it takes considerable concentration to achieve;
- Levitation: through her telekinetic ability, Merle is able to mentally grip onto surfaces and push herself away from the object – to some limitation. The further away she gets, the less she can “feel” the surface, therefore limiting her to needing to be within eyesight of the designated spot. Therefore, she often propels herself forward, locking her concentration onto new surfaces as she goes.

STRENGTHS: having often been referred to, or demoted to the role of, “sidekick,” Merle has grown accustomed to being a keen listener over the years. She pays strict attention to the task at hand, remembering fine details and taking orders without issue. As the often second-in-command, she demonstrates a supportive, trusting demeanour.

Not necessarily quiet or catlike, Merle likens herself to being a fairly decent amateur spy. Having worked alongside The Poet for many years in the field, Merle has picked up the basics of retrieving intel/breaking in without force or disruption. Merle is good at blending into crowds, improvising on the spot, resourcefully hiding when necessary and scoping out environments to better prepare herself the moment before. She’s not an expert at the incognito life, but Merle has a knack for it she prides herself in.

WEAKNESS: Unlike many other members of The Divisions, Merle has never been one for hand-to-hand combat. Her skillset is restricted to her telekinetic abilities. If, for whatever reason, her ability is nullified, Merle is useless in a fight.

Over the past few years she’s learned how to put her foot down but, for the most part, Merle had grown comfortable in anyone else’s shadow. Though she (imagines herself to be, at least) is a strong person, Merle is not a leader in any sense. She’s not inspiring or the first to charge; she looks to others for motivation and direction.

From all of the things Merle has had to face – from being young and on the frontlines of WW3 to seeing her mother’s cold, limp corpse on their family couch – she has grown exhausted and jagged over the years. In the early days she used to care deeply about humanity, the ideology of being an all-loving race working together. Recently, especially after the fall of The Sixth Division, Merle has lost the willingness to feel as compassionate about humankind. She’s irritable, tired, has anger and anxiety issues; she prefers solitude and yet has grown so accustomed to companionship that she is unsure of how to be on her own. Merle is experiencing a wide array of conflicting, dangerous emotions and is relatively unstable.

Likewise, from AW1, Merle has developed a case of anxiety and what she assumes must be a minor form of PTSD. She experiences night terrors, unsettling flashbacks, panic attacks from loud noises and an uneasiness in being in large, public areas. She never had been the social butterfly at parties even at the height of her minor fame, but now more than ever, Merle is uncomfortable with even moderate-sized masses of people.

BACKSTORY:

Hider

Born to Maurine and Malcolm Moreau just outside of Cleveland, Merle Moreau was the fourth and final family member to carry the “MM” naming trait – her older sister, Marcella, being the third. Mrs. Moreau worked as a nurse and would later go on to become “M.E. Moreau,” infamous for the “Charred Charter” trilogy. Mr. Moreau painfully worked his way up the ladder to being the district manager of a successful café franchise. Despite their stable income, Merle never knew how well off they were. She was raised to be appreciative and respectful of money, the hard-earned struggle to get it. She didn’t understand their wealth until living on her own and experiencing firsthand just how well-off her childhood had
been.

When The First Division first started circulating the airwaves and the world just started its frenzy over them, Merle had been thirteen. A gangly girl with a gaunt face, ratty hair and the unflattering nickname “Ostrich” due to her large eyes; kids said, like an ostrich’s, Merle’s eyes were bigger than her brain. She was a quiet, reserved girl who burrowed into books during breaks and after school. Though she had friends and there was no genuine reason for Merle not joining them in the cafeteria or to hang-out, she preferred the quiet escape of science fiction and fantasy. Oftentimes she would daydream about becoming a superhero – donning a cape, saving the world, being the hero everyone needed. It was a fantasy she lapsed into often, neglecting real-life duties in favor of writing tales about her superhero counterpart. From her early teenage years up until the time she was seventeen, it was a hope she entertained daily.

Merely days after the infamous death of Polar Storm sparked the rioting and arrests, Merle rejoiced when she first felt something foreign in her head. As if she had sprouted fingertips in the core of her brain, she could feel the warm smoothness of the mug on the bedside table next to her in her mind, like she had absorbed the object inside her skull. It held her curiosity for minutes until the unexpected crackle of thunder startled her and was immediately followed by the shattering of the mug. Somehow, in the split second Merle whipped around to gasp at the window, the mug had been launched across the room and long trails of murky brown coffee were leaking down the wall. As her sister Marcella had been one of her closest friends, it was she who first heard about Merle’s incident. Marcella instantly chalked it up as Merle looking for attention, clinging to the latest trend – until Merle telekinetically lifted the pencil from Marcella’s hands, and Marcella believed her. Instantly Marcella’s stance on it transformed into a protective, fearful one; she warned Merle to not let anyone know, to not let Merle become a target for the government to capture.

Sticking to her sisters’ wishes, Merle remained quiet about the telekinetic episode for the following year – dabbling with the minor elements of it she achieved (mainly just “feeling” objects) – until the Thursday morning at 2am in 1991 when there was a knock at the door, the faint murmur of muffled voices speaking to Mama Moreau. Merle pressed her ear to the door and listened, trying to pick up any significant bits and bites of the conversation, until her own bedroom door burst open and she scuttled away. When she regained consciousness, she was in the back of a moving vehicle, her wrists tethered together and a pounding migraine weakening her senses. That moment would always be a blur to Merle, the gap in-between when she woke up and when she was suddenly clattered on the floor, heaving for air, a sharp pain in her side, and the wails and gunshots of frantic men. The door to the vehicle was torn open – there was heavy smoke in the air slithering into Merle’s nostrils, suffocating her. Like the other woman next to her, Merle clambered onto her knees and ignored the motionless, unbreathing armored soldier. She made her way out of the vehicle, stood on solid ground, and first came face-to-face with the man who would redefine Merle’s life: Eugene Rice. She had known his face for years – the whole world had. And when he requested her help, Merle felt a surge of excitement inside her overlap the fear she was feeling. Suddenly, in the midst of chaos and wreckage, of bodies and bullets, Merle was needed. By The First Division.

Her time during The First Division was a short one. The death of Eugene Rice a short time after Merle teamed up with the leader cut the group’s duration short. However, with the only two other members – Amanda Weisz and Donna Tate – leaving for their own safety, and the other members still in prison, Merle had been the only active member for two weeks until Vivian Pang was released and took over the leadership role. Along with the other members, Merle rejoined and become an official member of The Second Division.

For months Merle’s parents developed an uncomfortable disposition around their daughter, unsure of how to react to their daughter being psychogenerative. Marcella was more supportive, allowing Merle to live with her and her fiancé during Merle’s off-time. Mostly, Merle spent her days at the various locations The Second Division operated at. Being a member of the crime-fighting group became her life. She was an obsessive fan living the dream she always wanted, but that quickly died. It quickly became real. The circumstances in which she joined The Second Division were simply because she was the only remaining member who fought by Eugene’s side during his final days. Even then, Merle was just a budding telekinetic; she never had been much help to Eugene Rice. Under the command of Vivian, Merle was expected to perform to the group’s standards. The young telekinetic spent most of her time practicing, straining herself to hone a skill she had never been taught was possible before. During the first rise of Desecration in the ‘90s, Merle was backseat member. She took on smaller tasks, solved smaller crimes. To a group that had hassled with fame, Merle was just a background extra for the time being. Rarely did she see the spotlight; most of the world knew of her, but the name “Zenith” didn’t take hold until 2003 when WW3 began. In-between The Second and The Third Divisions, Merle returned home and stayed with her parents who had begun to accept Merle after seeing the work she had done. For a year, Merle travelled with The Poet who, despite not being telekinetic, taught Merle a fair deal. When WW3 began, Merle had been more prepared; she was part of the first group of The Third Division members to head over to China. Suddenly, from out of nowhere, Merle’s face was plastered over propaganda posters and in commercials. Next to The Poet and The Good Doctor, Zenith – the fair-skinned, bug-eyed woman in the dazzling gold headscarf – was pivotal to the group’s identity. The prospect of war stole Merle’s attention, but every now and then she caught the wandering eye of a soldier and felt the pressure of growing popularity.

After WW3 ended and Merle lost several friends, she followed the others and decided to retire. Returning home to America suddenly meant people wanted pieces of Merle. She appeared in several television and radio interviews, but the idea of publicizing that aspect of her life felt wrong after a while. Initially it was exciting; she wanted to tell her stories, embellish the tales; she was still a diehard fan underneath living the dream, but she had seen enough over the years that it felt wrong to still be that. She was in her thirties – she was a grown woman who had been to war and back. She had killed, almost been killed. It only became a tangible realization when she was sitting on couches or chairs in front of cameras retelling her half of the story. When the war was over and only real life remained. Suddenly there was no more fan gushing over all those times she fought for the greater good. It was just a battered, aging woman who knew nothing else in life. She had gotten so wrapped up in the idea of being something great that, when it was all over, she had nothing else except for the nightmares, the haunting memories, the blood embedded in her hands.

Like most things, her time in the limelight died down, and after a year of touring, Merle was once again left to find a life to nestle into. She found a home in the countryside of Kansas, adopted a bunch of dogs and painted the sunset. As much as she could, she struggled to forget the life she half-heartedly left behind. She saw multiple therapists, limited her use of telekinesis, and dated a normal, non-psychogenerative woman. Yet, at the end of the night when the television set played the nightly news well into the early hours of the morning, Merle sat up and watched the world still go on. No matter what The Divisions had done for the world, there would always be petty crime. Merle tried to pretend there never was anything wrong, but she always had the itch to fly out into the night and stop the robbers, the rapists, the wrong-doers. She didn’t know what else do to with her time. Life felt empty without Zenith.

There was a point when Merle contemplated she wasn’t Merle Moreau. She was Zenith, only Zenith.

The group was reformed by Sung Jin Lee in 2011, and Merle did not hesitate in rejoining. It felt right; there was an exhale of relief when she stepped into the center of the cramped, circular room, saw all the files sprawled across desks that Lee had been pouring over, and thinking, “this is where I am. This is who I am.” Merle fought alongside The Fourth Division to bring down the resurgence of Desecration and his Cult. At the end of it, she felt the same sort of emotional exhaustion. She lost Nicole Schuester, The Poet, and Sung Jin Lee himself. She had become close to Alex and Shirley Mackey, only to have them leave. When it was all over and Zenith found herself still standing in that circular room, alone and defeated, she didn’t know what came next. She gave up the life of Merle Moreau. She wanted Zenith – needed Zenith. It was the only way she felt whole, felt like what she did mattered. It was the only identity she felt mattered.

For the following two years, Zenith went solo, creating even more of a name for herself; she became known as “The Fashionable Fighter,” and headscarves with open blazers and muscle shirts became the new trend. On her own, Zenith stopped sex trafficking rings, child prostitution and drug cartels; she started, “The Zenith Zone,” an after-school program for young psychogeneratives to feel understood, to find help. At one point, Zenith was a popular joke suggestion for the US Presidency Elections. She felt broken, but accomplished. As one person, she achieved so much, and she didn’t even know that those were her glory days. That time, as a solo superhero, Zenith was at her best.

Eventually, however, important tasks beyond just her carried her to reunite with Vorian von Traupitz – The Good Doctor, the man responsible for backing The Divisions over the years with technology, armor, weapons, and anything else they would ever need. Along with others the two recruited and accepted, they started The Fifth Division. This time, Zenith didn’t feel like the back-up to call on when needed. She wasn’t the timid, quiet woman who went with the flow. She felt empowerment, felt strong. She felt pride and arrogance. It was not the same woman who supported The Divisions throughout all those years, it was a woman who wanted to lead The Divisions how she felt suited her. Rarely did Zenith embrace the fame – she entertained it, was amused by it. Finally, she saw it as power. She used it to her advantage.

It was pure self-righteousness until AW1 began. It still trailed along with her when Vivian Pang re-emerged and took over leadership duties alongside Merle herself and Vorian. Zenith felt that same strength and confidence up until the moments when she stared down the first alien ship that descended.

When she saw all her friends die around her, and when she stood in the emptied street with rubble and ruin all around her, Zenith wept. Harder than she had in years. She broke, wholly, crumbled into soggy pieces. There was no rejoicing in facing the others that survived.

After all things had settled and they left the mess behind, Merle wasted no time in heading back out to Kansas where her little home resided. She draped the singed and tattered headscarf with the “z .” sewn into it over the coat rack, collapsed on her bed, and slept. It was a sleep she wished lasted for the rest of her lifetime.

Two years were wasted to depression, anxiety, to crippling flashback and mourning. Isolated, unfriendly, prone to breaking into sobbing fits at the drop of a hat, Merle Moreau felt like a bruised failure that would never stand again. There wasn’t a lot of other direction pointing to how she should be feeling. At the same time, she finally came to terms with her age, finally understood she was in her fifties and was no longer a young thing that should be running around. Her body ached constantly, not able to keep up with the demanding lifestyle. All that was left in that former life was a small fraction of her brain clinging to the good ole days like it was a lost lover she could never let go of.

Just as she began to grow accustomed to the solitude, Merle found a letter on her doorstep. Simply, it listed coordinates and read: “They’re coming back,” and a small signature at the bottom reading, “Vault”. It took Merle another two weeks of the letter being the only thought on her mind before she wrapped the dusty “z .” headscarf around her and stepped outside.

Like every other time before it, Merle Moreau never was sure giving up on the only life she knew was something she could do.

MASKED//IDENTITY

NAME/TITLE: Zenith
APPEARANCE: having never favored concealing her entire face, Zenith dressed simply in headscarves and loose-fitting, billowy clothing for the most part. For a stint she dressed in a black blazer and bell-bottoms until it caught on as a fashion statement.

Recently Merle has resorted to wearing a simple black, hooded cardigan over top of whatever simplistic blouse/pant combination she finds. She still drapes a silver and indigo headscarf across her head when out in the field in hopes of inspiring others to return to their former superhero counterparts.

TOOLS/WEAPONS: after a confrontation with a Cult of Desecration member who possessed power-nullifying abilities – rendering Merle useless and severely beaten – Merle has periodically taken to carrying a .9mm. When worn, it resides in a brown, leather holster that various Division members have etched their names into over the years. “I <3 Man O’War” is the most noticeable signature.

TRADEMARKS: the symbol “z .” has circulated over the years in regards to Zenith’s small fanbase. It refers to “the zenith point of the sky,” Zenith’s alleged origin of her name. In a costumed interview, Zenith stated, “I went with “Zenith” because of the zenith point in the sky – the middle, highest part. I want people to know that, whenever they look up to the sky, I’ll be there.” During her time in The Fifth Division, Zenith received a headscarf with the “z .” logo sewn into it. Zenith donned the scarf up until AW1.

Though Zenith never had one exact costume over the years, headscarves of various colors and intricate patterns had become somewhat of her trademark. It was the cause of the rise in popularity of headscarves amongst North American women during the 2000’s.

NAME: goes strictly by the title “The Poet”. Those that have grown to be close to The Poet refer to her simply as “Poe”.

APPEARANCE: a woman with broad-shouldered, tall build, The Poet has more of an imposing stature. Her hair is often left alone, allowed to puff out and become more of a mane. For attire, The Poet will wear simplistic clothing that fits with the situation. Whether that be a little black dress and heels or a simple shirt and jeans, it's whatever fits the occasion.

- Maximillian Ali: deceased; throughout her time spent in The Divisions, The Poet has tried hard to keep the identity of her son under wraps. It was not until the mid-2000s when The Poet had been targeted by the son of her former partner, Desecration, resulting in Maximillian’s ultimate enslavement by Desecration II. The Poet killed her son before Desecration II could use him further;
- unidentified man/”Mr. Ali”: deceased; The Poet’s unidentified, nameless husband of which she refrains from talking about. It is believed the man’s surname is “Ali,” after the identification of The Poet’s son Max went public and his own last name had been discovered. Whether Ali is The Poet’s maiden name or her former husband’s is not clear. Nothing else is known about “Mr. Ali,” other than he had been a part of The Cult of Desecration and remained behind after The Poet left. Her punishment for leaving was witnessing Desecration flay her husband alive;
- Ned Anders/Desecration: deceased; once a brilliant man who wanted justice and equality for all, The Poet worked alongside Ned Anders as activists for psychogenerative riots in the mid-1990s. The two had developed a close friendship, at times bordering on romantic. At some point, Anders developed a cult following and spiralled into a power-hungry obsession with his followers. His true state of madness was triggered by the death of Polar Storm and subsequent rioting. The Poet left him shortly after he took on the moniker “Desecration”;
- Icarus Anders/Desecration II: deceased; the son of Ned Anders who would later revive his fathers’ cult following. Having been close with Ned, The Poet knew Icarus for many years, having watched him grow as a young boy. The Poet believed her son was the target of Desecration II’s avengement due to some form of jealousy over parentage.

ABILITIES: The Poet denies possessing any psychogenerative abilities herself, but it is clear she is not a standard human of any sorts. Having become known for an irritating comfortability in subterfuge, The Poet is something of a public spy. She does not hide her face or cover her tracks; she provokes and encourages confrontation, likes being uncovered as the culprit and being chased down. In the end, The Poet always evades capture. In most environments she can vanish, meld into the background or seemingly de-materialize on the spot. It is speculated that The Poet is capable of invisibility, camouflaging, teleportation, or has a time and space-altering gift. The Poet will never say what it is or how she does it.

The Poet is no stranger to firearms, having melded into a keen marksman over the decades. Sticking mainly to long-range weaponry – ie., the infamous collapse sniper rifle Vorian van Trauptiz designed for her – The Poet is skilled at picking off targets from a far distance. As The Poet herself once spray-painted across the freeway where many Cultist bodies lay, “with my words i will kill you – a soft, slowburn surrender/with my lead, i will keep you down”.

STRENGTHS: The Poet had always been known as one of the go-to allies when needing important data. Praised for being able to properly plan and execute infiltrations into many facilities, The Poet was a master at espionage. It remains a mystery how The Poet is oftentimes so able to retrieve whatever’s needed with little repercussions.

Perhaps one beneficial matter that helped The Poet’s spy games was her lengthy list of contacts. Most had been blackmailed into “not falling off the Earth until I wring you dry/and then let you saunter off it,” while others were simply people The Poet knew of – whether through hacking databases or word of mouth. For whatever’s needed, chances are the Poet knows someone who can help.

WEANESSES: The Poet’s old age is her main physical downfall. She is not agile, nor does she have moderately acceptable stamina. When on the field, she is limited to her knack of “vanishing” in order to avoid physical confrontations. She cannot run for long distances or at impressive speeds; she tires easily, runs out of breath substantially fast.

When it comes to fighting, in no way is The Poet a foot soldier. Perhaps once she may have been satisfactory at hand-to-hand combat, knowing how to throw a punch without throwing out her shoulder in the process. These days, she lacks the upper-body strength and mobility to be comparable to her former self. From all the fighting in her early days, The Poet has constantly sore limbs and joints, prone to waking up with some new part of her aching.
Her inability to vocally communicate with others often hinders her while in the field. Speaking with others through text messages works when there’s someone with time to respond, but when the entire team is wrapped up in a battle, it is common to lose track of The Poet due to not knowing instantly where she is. Likewise, unless she has a notebook or means of digital text, The Poet is unable to express her thoughts at all.

BACKSTORY: Only bits and pieces gathered over the years indicate who The Poet had been before The Divisions. It is known she had a son and, at one point, had been married. It is rumored The Poet hailed from Essex, England, and occasionally returns to a small home in the countryside there when not enlisted in The Divisions. However, no records of The Poet’s citizenship to any country have been uncovered.

It is known that The Poet worked with Ned Anders in the early ‘90s as a social activist for psychogenerative rights, having gone by the name “The Poet” ever since. The title was self-coined, a reference to the notes she would use to communicate and the early graffiti art she would leave in the wake of protests, often of poetic, political statements.

Shortly after Ned Anders became aggressive and nonsensical, consumed by the need for power and influence, The Poet left him. He proceeded to kill The Poet’s husband as punishment. The death of her former love was not found out about until after the fall of The Cult of Desecration. The Poet chose to keep it to herself, preferring her teammates did not see any emotional ties she had had with anyone else.

While many of The Second Division members refrained from killing Cultists unless necessary, The Poet took out her rage and ensured she slaughtered each one she came across. By the end of her career with The Divisions, The Poet had a personal death count of two hundred and fifty-two. Most had been Cultists, others had been criminals, and the rest were caught in her crossfire. The Poet rarely expressed remorse towards the innocents she had killed.

Upon the dismantling of The Second Division, The Poet vanished from North America, ceasing communication with former members. When WW3 started, she returned to fight in the war. Likewise, The Poet was present for the reunion of The Fourth Division after the Cult of Desecration made a resurgence. The Poet was determined to defeat the second iteration of Desecration, knowing from early on that it had been Desecration’s son and not the man himself.

However, towards the end of The Fourth Division’s run when Desecration was becoming a powerful foe, The Poet received a photograph of her son in the mail. She found him, standing on a street, visibly mind-wiped and under the influence of Desecration. The Poet knew Desecration’s intention. Like how the first Desecration killed her husband for leaving him, the second Desecration was going to kill her son for having defeated the original Desecration. Instead of letting Desecration II take her son’s life, The Poet slid a knife through her son’s temple, and let him die.

After that, The Poet returned to hiding for many years. She would not return for The Fifth Division, but when the call for The Sixth Division came and war was looming in the distance, The Poet returned, acting as a recruiter for new members. She refused to speak about her son or any prior events, sticking strictly to planning and war-talk.

When AW1 ended, The Poet had been responsible for bringing Lady Lust to a hospital in the next town over. Shortly thereafter, The Poet had ben glimpsed staggering out of the city, back towards Adventbrook. The last anyone had heard of her, she had been arrested and sent to Courtright Penitentiary for a crime that was never revealed to the public.
TOOLS//WEAPONS: based off of the M24 SWS The Poet had been known to use, Vorian van Trauptiz designed and manufactured a custom-made sniper rifle to better suit The Poet’s needs. Partially collapsible, designed to be smaller and compact, and made from a lightweight carbon fiber and nanocellulose combination; nicknamed, “The Pencil,” the gun is a powerful, ultralight weapon The Poet is often seen sporting on the battlefield.

A leather-bound notebook is also a noted tool of The Poet’s. It’s her primary means of speaking, by scribbling notes in it to share with others. For as long as anyone can remember, it’s been the same one: a mahogany color, gold-rimmed pages, the bottom left corner of the front over torn away. Yet, it seems, the pages are endless. The Poet’s used the same one for decades without going so much as halfway through the book.

When the notepad is too much of a hassle to write in, The Poet will use a handheld tablet to fire off text messages to others. A text-to-voice function was once implemented to help The Poet communicate verbally, but the idea of Stephen Hawking’s voice discussing battle plans while explosions and gunfire were tearing up the roads didn’t go very well.
