One character Many Role players

That Inside Out movie got me thinking, "You know? I like the idea of multiple entities controlling one person. How can I make that work for an RP?"

Here's what i'm thinking. we all work together to choose a setting and create the character. Then we all trade off posting what he/she does and how he/she reacts to different situations.

I really like this idea and i'm willing to work with people so that we end up with a character we can all enjoy. For group size I think three would be best but if people are interested I could go to four.

I few setting's or genres I thought of (feel free propose your own) are listed below.

King/Queen Can be in a low to high fantasy setting
An Average Joe/Jane We can tackle the challenges of every day life together.
A crew member Of a spaceship
A person with terrible luck Can be from a curse, karma, or just plain bad luck in any setting
Explorer/Adventurer Any setting would be entertaining
The Victim In a horror story Or sole survivor
A disaster/lost in the wilderness survivor May the spirit of Bear Grylls be with us

Seems interesting. Although what was your target amount of people in this RP? It might be a bit crazy, if there are tons of people in it.

The concept is most definitely interesting, I admit. Three-to-four people working together to make a story? Sounds like a roleplay to me.

Like: you present us with a situation, and we squabble and vote over what we do? Those are fun, and can get very silly and out of hand, but those don't need a limit of how many people join in.

The Chose Your Own Path/Adventure is a lot like what this would be, numerous players (often with competing agendas) controlling a single entity, and voting on the best path to follow, with the GM posting the responses.
The one's I pulled were my personal favorites, though many of them are simply slice of life, and don't deal with being a god/xenomorph
I'm not sure if this is what you have in mind, though this is what I thought of when you mentioned this concept.

Well if we did the voting system, I'd recommend either the King/Queen or the crew member of a starship, or maybe an adventurer in Call of Cthulhu-esque ruins? I dunno.

The idea of voting on outcomes and letting the GM give us results is definitely one way of accomplishing this.

The way I interpreted this was more along the lines of we each cycle through control of the character and do a post in our own way and react based upon the scenario and situation the person before us has left us, while trying to maintain the same character.

Either way works, just each requires drastically more effort in differing ways.

I was thinking more along the lines of what Phoenix interpreted. And was thinking of doing it that way. However I'll be camping this weekend and unable to post.

I have done something like this before - each poster just adding a piece of the story, generally each from a single protagonist's perspective. We called those 'serial stories' rather than roleplays, and that was also where my history of collaborate writing began. To add to the insanity, everything was purely jump-in (granted, it was a site roughly tenth of RPGs size, and it wasn't dedicated to RP). We managed to successfully finish a handful of them, too, so it wasn't as disastrous as one could expect.
Ehh, nostalgia... The site eventually died due to owner neglect, and the site's successor (created by former mods on the site) is now I think eight years old already. (It has to be summer '07 or '06 when the new site was created.)

But enough of my rambling; I just stepped by due to how oddly familiar to my ages past this all sounded. It'd be an interesting experiment, but regrettably I'm a bit overwhelmed with real life work, so I can't really commit to more RPs but two. Best of luck to you!
