Oh my goodness, I get to go home today. :3 I feel like I've been away for a month. Then my girlfriend and I are going to The Martian, and then Shakespeare. This has been a week worth getting through!

I hope everyone else has something just as nice planned! Or, at least, some pleasant relaxing. :3

Just relaxing at home. It is a long weekend here in Australia. Can't wait to see Jacob and the others reactions to this dark turn of events.

That sounds like so much fun, Naril! And I know there's nothing quite like coming home. And Austronaut, long weekends are pretty much always the best. :)

My weekend's been good so far! Had a girly day with two of my friends today, including a trip to our local comic book store, which is really nice. The staff is friendly and the vibe is good--not the kind of place that makes you feel bad for being a girl the moment you walk through the door. I got two comics for a dollar each that I'm excited to try!

Anyway, I'll have a post up tomorrow. Hope everyone else is doing well!

I was actually dispairing a bit about the geek culture in Australia, having been spoiled in America, but I am amazed and delighted to see comic book and game stores springing up everywhere! Haven't had a chance to check them out, I can hold out hope that they are woman friendly...

Major apologies! My post is not up, but at least partly drafted. I'm trying to make Mandy do something more than just sit and think for a few paragraphs, as I'm sure you guys would all like to see her do something more interesting! @lady horatio - Oh my goodness, you've nothing to apologise to me for. :3 I'm just always happy to see posts, whenever they come up!

@Austronaut - I'm also really happy that there are really great comic book stores springing up all over the world. When I moved here, I fell in love with mine immediately - they suggested several excellent comics as soon as we got talking (including Sex Criminals and Rat Queens, both of which are amazing), and they've never made me have that "omg girl!" feel that I did when I was younger. Also, I think I love them forever because they pointed me at The Wicked and the Divine which is holy crap you guys so good.

Ahem. Back to your regularly scheduled calm, erudite, articulate Naril now. :3

1) I am super new to the comic scene, so I've been lucky in that I haven't experienced any of the horror stories I've heard about from other girls, but I'm forever-wary. Our local store has ladies on staff, which probably helps a lot.

2) Naril, you and my bestie have like the exact same am-reading/to-be-read list! She's going to lend me Rat Queens, and I'm hoping she'll pass along The Wicked and the Divine, which I think she's going to buy next. I got the first issue of Ghost for a dollar, and I'd rec that to you and Austronaut, if you guys are looking for something else to read. :)

3) Post is up! I might tweak it tomorrow, as I'm still not quite happy with it, but the role-play must go on! And just as Naril was kind enough to do before, I should put out a disclaimer--Habibi gave me the info about Robert using his phone camera; I totally wouldn't have controlled his character without his permission.

Mm. Good morning, everyone. :3 A nice relaxed weekend so far at Château Naril. Fall is here in earnest, and the trees outside my apartment are beautiful.

Hi, Naril! I'm okay. Currently wailing because an author I love will be in my state tonight (and in a city only two hours from me tomorrow), but it's looking like there's no way the bestie and I can go. I am so mad that we didn't know about this sooner. >> (I'm also horribly spoiled, as we will be meeting different author next month, and she'll be right in our city. I JUST WANTED TO SEE BOTH OF THEM.)

But my weekend was good, and I spent last night hanging out with two friends and taking advantage of someone else's very large comic collection! :) I read the first five issues of Spiderverse, and they were great.

G'evening (or g'day or afternoon depending the time zone), I've been practicing Boogie Woogie, which is pretty damn hard but getting there, getting there...

Also, I saw The Martian. It was a fun movie I can recommend. Not ground shattering but creative and quite realistic.

I absolutely loved both versions of The Martian. Andy Weir is a fun writer, and the film captured everything I wanted. :3 And, I have to admit, I really enjoyed seeing Ridley Scott (who has made some of my very favourite movies, but who I've been disappointed in lately) make a...well, not to be too blunt, but a good movie again.

I also really enjoyed how there were definitely some moments in the film that stood on their own as gags, but were really there for people who read the book. That The Martian is so funny and earnest rather than (As the story so easily could have been) dour and depressing is something I absolutely loved, and that the film still had so much of that made me very happy. :3

I haven't heard from vietmyke in quite a while - I suspect he may be buried under life. If that's the case, I'll puppet Jacob along as appropriate, though I'll very likely be minimising his involvement with the story at the moment. Fortunately, I just gave him a great reason to stay behind and fret about his daughter, so...well, that will be convenient, I suppose. :3

I'll be working on more GM-flavoured posts this weekend, so we'll see what shakes out!
