So, from the posts here, the only class that's being fought over is Saber. If Ashifili gets the slot, then we'll have seven Masters. If Kaithas gets it though, we'll have eight so one of the Masters will need to step down. Seeing as I'm already in for Caster, if that happens I'm fine with rescinding my master spot, so nobody's prevented from being able to participate.
Of course, if Skyswimsky or Kongou decide that they would rather compete for a Servant slot, then that'll change. I just assumed Master for convenience's sake.

That depends entirely on what the GM wants to do and how they're envisioning the Grail system in this and stuff, so I obviously can't speak to that. We can ask them when they're on, if that becomes a substantive issue.
I assume any potential overseers would be handled by Angel and Alice rather than a regular pleb pc person. It'd probably be Shielder and/or Avenger that might get added if Alice wants to do anything, though that's really just a guess on my part than based on anything I'm aware of.
I guess we could also have characters that are related to the war, but not actually masters or servants. (Like Maiya and Iri.) Even if a character isn't a master to begin with, they can still become one by way of thief of command seals. Alternatively, a caster servant might summon their own servant.

As someone who has played tabletop games and Dungeons and Dragons, I can't even tell you how frusterating the constant possibility of getting your perfect move messed up by a 1 roll is.
Specifically, I remember an instance on an online NWN server where my party and I planned a cave raid perfectly. Or so we thought. We had the enemies overpowered and outnumbered, and yet after a few crappy rolls, we were all dead and PO'd. Rinse and repeat about two dozen times, and you get my drift.

We could always just have someone play as the overseer or whatever. But that's probably too much power for a mere PC.

My character is coming. I an trying to decide between two choices.
There's no big rush, I'm still going through character reviews with people and such. The OOC will probably go up once I'm confident in having at least most of our cast.
Anyway, might as well post my progress for Archer;
True Name: Caspar Class: Archer Appearance:"I'm told I look like a Horse." (tentative faceclaim is tentative) Alignment: Chaotic Neutral Gender: Male Birth and Death Dates: 1623-1648 (25 at the time of death)
Personality: By and large, Heroic Spirits are a varied bunch- for as many as there are that are undeserving of their fame or status, there are as many whose seeming unworthiness obscures a far more fascinating and admirable character.
Archer is definitely in the former camp. Despite considerable charisma and a way with words, that's all he truly has to set him apart from others; beneath that is a cowardly individual wholly aware of his unremarkable nature. Whilst capable of admitting his lack of worth to himself, which could be seen as a positive trait in the sense that he doesn't tend to overestimate his own capabilities, this is undermined by desperation to prove himself as worthy to or show up those who look down on him. Whilst he doesn't seem opposed to not being 'the best', willing to settle for convincing himself he's 'second best' and taking pride in that for the sake of a comfortable existence, he resents those who would spurn him or exercise authority over him, particularly the Master that summons him. Essentially, his self-worth is based on a fragile sense of pride that is easily destroyed when challenged by others, and if not for his unremarkable nature being exemplified in his non-existent Rank in Independent Action, he would be all too happy to trick his Master into their own demise.
However, if he has anything to truly pride himself on, it's that sense of cunning he has. Whilst mostly unremarkable in and of himself, this crass intelligence was responsible for getting him as far he did in life and obtaining him the position he had before his demise. Whilst he remains an individual of exceptionally poor character, the qualities he does possess are enough for him to validate himself and his role as a Heroic Spirit.
History:
Caspar was born during the Thirty Years War, to parents from a by-then extinct line of magi. He grew up with a knowledge of the existence of magecraft and the various supernatural horrors that existed in the world, but otherwise passed through life successfully with the gifts he had been given, even managing to avoid the ongoing War without any significant trouble. In his early twenties, he obtained the lucrative position of Assistant Forester to Cuno, the Chief Forester in the employ of the land's Prince. Despite knowing of the world he had been shut out of by his family's fall from grace and his subsequent unremarkability in the grand scheme of the universe, he came to terms with it- he had worked his way into a comfortable existence with his own skills and the hand he had been given, and he encountered little that threatened that existence or his sense of pride.
However, everything changed when he became smitten with Agathe, the Daughter of Chief Forester Cuno. Developing such a strong infatuation for the first time, he immediately began courting her- but these attempts were dismissed by the girl, who wasn't at all impressed with what she could see in him. Feeling his pride wounded in the most significant way that he had felt in years, he then attempted to 'redeem' himself in the eyes of the girl by taking part in the closing stages of the Thirty Years War- but soon came to fear for his life after he realized what he had done.
Out of desperation, he turned to the books handed down through his family from the time when they were still magi, and eventually secured a means to meet with Samiel, a spirit that dwelled in the Wolf's Glen. Hardly thinking about or aware of the long-term consequences of his actions, he made a bargain with the spirit to obtain six Freikugel- magic bullets that could hit any target. The deal went through and the use of the bullets saved his life various times in the war, but he returned home with Agathe hardly thinking any better of him and the realization that all he had to show for his time in the war was a single bullet and an incredibly short span of time before Samiel claimed his soul.
Not long after the end of the war, a fellow Assistant Forester under Cuno, Max, who had fallen in mutual love with Agathe whilst Caspar was away, came to fear that failure in an upcoming shooting contest held by the Prince would rob him of both the chance to succeed Cuno and wed Agathe. Whilst Caspar despised the younger Forester, he saw an opportunity in the naive young man- with little time left before Samiel came to collect, he showed Max the ability of the bullet and used that demonstration and his fear of failure to convince him to forge his own pact with Samiel.
Caspar's plan was to convince Samiel to take Max and Agathe's souls in his place, buying himself a few more years in which he could find a way to escape his curse, and for this purpose he convinced the spirit to create a seventh bullet that would be controlled by him to kill Agathe and drive Max into despair. Desperate, Max consented and came to the Wolf's Glen with Caspar, where the two summoned Samiel and received the seven bullets. Splitting them between the two of them, Caspar managed to have all but one of them wasted a short time after they obtained them, leaving Max with the seventh, cursed bullet.
On the day of the shooting contest, Max was directed to shoot a dove- but whilst the course of the bullet did change to target Agathe, the bullet either turned sharply after approaching her or was deflected by some mysterious force to instead strike Caspar. Whatever it was that turned the course of the bullet, Samiel came to claim Caspar as he lay dying with the sight of Agathe and Max alive and well before him, and he was dragged to his fate screaming and cursing the world.

Class Skills
Independent Action (N/A): Despite being a Class Skill, Archer carries a curse that prevents him from having any ability to function without a Master as an anchor, unless very specific conditions are met.
Magic Resistance (D)- Cancels Single-Action spells. Magic Resistance of the same degree of an amulet that rejects magical energy. Despite his relatively modern nature, Archer had enough experience with the supernatural in his life to obtain a mediocre rank in this Skill rather than just a low one.
Personal Skills
Charisma (D-): The Servant is naturally likable. They can inspire people to whom they are capable of ingratiating themselves. However, in situations where they are required to give commands, they suffer a significant reduction in the effectiveness of this skill.
Clairvoyance (D): Can see the world more clearly and in greater detail than any modern human could hope to, and see an object at a range of up to a mile away with no noticeable difficulty. The world also appears to move somewhat slower to him, allowing him to follow objects that would be difficult to keep track of with the faculties of a modern human.
Disengage (E+): At this rank, whilst the Servant does not enjoy the more technical utilities of this skill, they are capable of reliably retreating from combat situations.
Noble Phantasms
Freikugeln-The Six Bullets of the Black Ranger

Type- Anti-Unit
Range- unlimited
Maximum Number of Targets- 1 person
Description: Caspar's Noble Phantasm, the six bullets he obtained in his deal with Samiel to survive the Thirty Years War. At C-Rank, the bullets are not particularly destructive Noble Phantasms in and of their own power; rather, what makes them deadly is the enchantment placed upon them by Samiel. So long as the user has the slightest visual of the intended target and their position, the user can direct the bullet to hit that target once fired. Whilst striking the target isn't an absolute guarantee, and there's a chance to prevent them from connecting with the right tools or preparations, the bullets will alter trajectory and bypass all but the most potent of dedicated defenses to drive itself as close to the heart and vital organs and cause as much damage as possible. Against Servants, the utility of this Noble Phantasm is mitigated by Caspar's poor Luck and the relatively low Rank of destructive power the Freikugeln possess; against Masters, this is amongst the most deadly Noble Phantasms. Once they meet a living target and inflict the maximum possible damage to the vital organs, the enchantment upon them lifts and causes them to become nothing more than inert, expended shells.
Samiel-The Black Ranger of the Wolf's Glen

Description: Not strictly a manifestation of the infamous Black Ranger himself, but rather a recreation of Caspar's deal with him to have Max be dragged to Hell in his place. Upon exhausting all six of his original bullets and finding a willing participant, Caspar can summon an image of Samiel to grant the participant and himself six more to use. However, this Noble Phantasm also grants a cursed 'Seventh Bullet', a representation of the one that Caspar requested as a means to have Max fall into despair, and what ultimately killed him in life. This bullet is controlled by the will of Samiel himself, and chooses its own target in a way that is guaranteed to bring nothing but trouble to Caspar; but in return, the curse placed on the bullet will claim whatever living target it connected with in place of Caspar himself, regardless of whatever that might be, lifting the curse over him and granting him A-Rank Independent Action to sustain him until he is able to obtain the Grail.
Other
Whilst not a Noble Phantasm, Caspar possesses a rifle common to the era in which he lived, which is used to fire the Freikugeln. He also has some knives that he used in his role as Forester.
Caspar's status as a Heroic Spirit isn't down to his own merits, particularly; rather, due to Max having escaped his fate on account of repentance and year of piety, Caspar is the most well-known figure that can be attached to the concept of the 'Freischütz'.
