Okay so our characters are in the RAS military academy at Vail [the capitol of Tenish]. Rin has been there about a year. Enough time that she has started actual training in Vipers and other ships but isn't ready to graduate yet. Like all other students she's enrolled in classes about tactics, history, weapons, first aid, and other things like that. All students live on campus in bunk rooms.
I'm thinking that Rin and your character are in History together and today's lesson was about her father and your character could ask of there was any relation or maybe the teacher says something about Rin being the daughter or something like that. I thought it would be a good ice breaker, but if you have a better idea let me know!

There could also be a history test coming up so he wants to know more about her father so he'll actually pass the test.

Oh I've been plotting ahead ever since I came up with this idea. Should we share these plots or just let it happen?

Okay! so for one of my ideas that we will likely get to soon. So her dad died. But her mom remarried and had another daughter. And the guy she married is a jerk and abuses them. So sometime soon after she graduates I'm gonna have Rin go kill the guy, wanna send Marcus with her?

OH loverly, yeah he'd be glad to tag along

although maybe he's a bit calmer then, I intend to have him mellow out of the majority of his crazy adolescence

Not to calm though, he's gonna have to put up with Rin after all. And I'm thinking this would be in about a year or so [in game time] after they've been on missions and started killing people and such.
