Cass keeps her black hair short, and tends to wear dark clothing, even if she is on the beach. She stands at five foot eight, and is highly muscled due to her years in the arm. She is also deeply tan, partly due to her heritage, partly due to the time she spends outside.
Power/ Talent: Cassie is what has been classified as a ‘sniper’ class psychic. She has a sense of hyper-focus and attention so she can ‘snipe’ with a normal handgun. This makes her very proficient as a sniper, as well as a marksman.
Biography: Cassie was raised in a rough suburb of Chicago, and clawed her way out of it. She was generally a quiet girl that kept to herself. Her father had served during Desert Storm, her grandfather in World War II, so Cassie was always determined to join the Army. She started taking karate and taekwondo at a young age, since her parents wanted her to be able to protect herself in her rough neighborhood. Her father suffered from PTSD silently, and the day Cassie graduated High School and joined the Army he finally snapped and went head first into the bottle. Cassie had not spoken to her father in a few years, but that has recently changed since he went to rehab and cleaned himself up.
At eighteen, just before she graduated from High School, Cassie signed up into the Marine Corp, which was an interesting decision. She worked hard through Boot Camp, and worked her way to becoming a sniper. After Boot Camp was over she was sent on her first tour of Iraq. It was during her second tour, towards the end that the change happened, and Cassie awoke to her powers. At that time she met her current boyfriend, Kyle Richards, while they were both in the med tent freaking out about hearing people’s thoughts. She went there after hearing one of her fellow Marines make threats on his ex-wife, and finding out after reporting him that he had never opened his mouth while ‘saying’ those things.
She discovered the full range of her powers on a sniper mission, when she used her combat pistol to take out her target instead of her sniper rifle. Cassie was a bit freaked out by this, but chose to take control of her powers, and refine them in the field.
After she was discharged with full honors, she was recruited by Kyle, who had been booted out of the army previously when they found out about his powers. (This was before the Army highly encouraged Psychics to join, when the powers were still new.) He had been recruited to Sector X and when asked if he knew anyone he trusted to join, he immediately named Cassie, and asked to do it in person. She accepted and has been working with Sector X for six years now.
Personality: Cassie comes off as harsh and abrasive due to her years in the army, but once someone gets to know her, they know she’s a very protective person that cares about her friends deeply. She does also have a weird sense of humor, loving groan worthy puns.
Role in Sector X: Field Agent, Recruiter, Security
Additional Info: Cassie hates her full name. No one is allowed to use it. Not even her mother. She is aware of the mythology behind it and hates it.
Autumn has long red hair that she tends to keep pinned up in a messy bun. She has a splash of freckles all over her body, due to her Irish heritage. She stands at five foot three, and wishes she was a bit taller. She tends to be more on the curvy side, which she happily embraces. She loves her curves. She enjoys wearing mostly girly clothing, wearing flowing skirts and dresses most of the time. She does dress professionally if the occasion calls for it.
Power/ Talent: Pheromone control, classified as a ‘Physical’ class. Autumn can put out a wave of pheromones, making it so that people will either calm down, or be more receptive to ideas. This has backfired on her, especially when it comes to romance. She currently wears a power dampener that looks like an ear cuff on her right ear. She takes it off when she needs to.
Biography: Autumn was born originally Maple to her con-man father. She never knew her mother, since she handed Maple off to her father and left him. It seemed to be a cruel joke to Maple growing up that her father saddled her with the name Maple. It never seemed to fit her. What was even crueler was that Maple would never grow up in one town.
Autumn's father was a con-man extraordinaire, who was always oddly one step ahead of the law. He posed as a religious man, car salesman, insurance salesman, and a number of other things over the years. Autumn grew to loath and hate what her father did for a living. She still loves him in a way, but has not kept up contact with him.
Autumn worked hard at school and earned a scholarship to college, and when she turned eighteen she left her home, changed her name and went to make something of herself. She worked her way through college, earning a degree in business in two years. She immediately got a job in a high profit firm and worked there for a few months.
It took Autumn a few months to realize what her power was, since she never really thought about things while she was doing it. Her main power presented itself one day when one of the co-workers she had a crush on asked her out. Then a few other co-workers asked her out! She was excited till she found out that the co-worker she had a crush on had rather rudely and abruptly broken up with his girlfriend, a fellow co-worker, that same day. She realized that she was causing the influx of hormones at work and quit that day. She found Sector X after a bit of research and asked to join, looking for a way to control her powers. They helped her by giving her an experimental power dampener, which made her the first test subject for it. It is thanks to Autumn that the tech even exists.
Hobbies: Cooking, baking, reading, knitting
Personality: Autumn is a very friendly person, but also very shy. Due to her powers and her nature she tends to shy away from people because she is afraid they are only friendly with her due to her powers. Also because of this she hasn’t had a date in six years.
Role in Sector X: Negotiator, Public Relations, Recruiter, and Field Agent on occasion (If the mission has a possible rogue element in it, Autumn is sent in to help calm things down.)
Additional Info: Autumn is always afraid of ending up like her father, using people for her own selfish gain, which is why she dislikes her power. She is also a hopeless romantic, and hopes to find ‘the one’ one day.
Power/ Talent: Enhanced Senses (Hyper Senses). Niah’s senses in general are better than a normal human’s, but if she wants to she can hyper focus a sense. When she does that though she loses complete access to another sense. When hyper focused she could see with literal microscopic ability, or hear a pin drop from a mile away. In highly emotional situations she cannot control the hyper focus. When she hyper focuses on Smell she loses Sight. Sight - Sound Sound - Taste Touch - Smell Taste - Touch
Biography: Niah was born in Manila. Her family lived there until 2001, when her father became an Ambassador and moved semi-permanently to America. At the time Niah was in high school, her sister Dalisay was in middle school. They attended a prestigious private school alongside many other statesmen’s children. Niah was a science nerd, and for a good portion of her time at the school attempted to just disappear. When she graduated High School she went to an Ivy league school with the intention of becoming a scientist.
In 2006 her sister was visiting the night of the change. The two went to a concert (best band ever! "Abandoned Mattresses"). Niah left with a new *cough* friend *cough* and Daliasy went home. It was an awkward morning before Niah left to go home. Back at her house she could find Daliasy. Her family was already stressed over the loss of their mother in 2004, the disappearance of Dalisay hit her hard. The manifestation of Niah’s power did not help; it was uncontrollable.
Niah dropped out of the Ivy league and joined a smaller college to reduce her stress level. The college was the same one her friends that she had met at the concert went to, all with powers, but none like her’s. After she graduated in 2009 Niah was looking at potential jobs and Graduate schools when she was recruited for Sector X.
Niah Bautista had settled into the happy life she found with her college friends. The group of four were the best friends she could have asked for and now with college behind them things were going to get interesting. Well she couldn’t say with college behind them, she still had grad school to figure out, and a job.
The job part wasn’t easy. Her easy college job was no longer available to her, and there weren’t any labs accepting undergrad students (or those pesky inbetweeners like her). That was until she had found a job description. Man it matched almost exactly what she was looking for.
She applied, and was called in for an interview within the day. That made her nervous. She hadn’t done an interview in ages. With a good luck from Craig and the rest of Team Gaia, Niah made the crosstown drive.
Maybe when she pulled up to the squat building is when she should have noticed something was off, or maybe Niah’s nervousness was just enough that she didn’t notice the lack of cars. There aren’t many companies that would only have four cars in the parking lot on a Wednesday afternoon.
The lobby seemed normal, to Niah’s credit, checking in was easy. There was a cool little kiosk that you typed your name into and it printed a sticker. After a little bit, a woman in a lab coat walked over and looked at Niah, then a clipboard, and then back at Niah. “Ms. Bautista? I’m going to be interviewing you today. You can call me Mrs. Nyx, or Doctor Nyx,” she said and offered her hand to Niah.
“Hello Dr. Nyx.” Niah paused. “I’m sorry I have a hard time with physical contact.” She gave a bow instead.
“Ah, germaphobe? We understand that here at Kronos Labs. Well, if you want to follow me, we will be having the interview in one of the labs. We prefer a bit more of a hands on approach when finding suitable candidates.” Dr. Nyx smiled and went to lead Niah down the hall. It was a bit like a maze as they walked through the building. They finally reached a set of doors and Dr. Nyx pushed them open. Inside was a rather impressive lab, full of the most up to date technology.
Niah was impressed. She eyed some of the equipment she had only heard about in theory. “Is that an Erlenmeyer Kiln?”
“Good eye Ms. Bautista! Yes, it is.”
“I do have very good eyesight.”
“So, Ms. Bautista. I do have to interview you while you look around. What qualifications do you have that make you better than other applicants?”
“I have two undergraduate degrees. One in Chemistry and one in Biology. I was top of both classes.”
“No, Ms. Bautista. I want to know what makes you special.” Dr. Nyx set down her clipboard, and untied her hair and walked around Niah. “So tell me, what gift do you have to offer us?”
“Uh, you mean a power.” Niah’s heart pounded. She had heard of people getting beat up or worse. When it came for jobs people were turned down because of their powers. “I have heightened senses.” She admitted. “For example, you have a dog, a poodle, probably standard. That poodle got muddy before you came to work, but you did your best to clean up the stains.” She had picked up her stride, she had joked at least once she was the modern Sherlock.
Dr. Nyx grinned. “You are as impressive as we were told. You’ll be perfect.”
“Told? By whom?” Niah wondered who had talked to this company even though she hadn’t heard of them until the day before.
“By the shadows.” Dr. Nyx grinned and pulled off her lab coat. “You shall join us Ms. Bautista, whether you want to or not.”
Niah backed away, internally she was screaming. She had walked into a trap. Nyx worked for the bad guy. However, her thoughts were interrupted by a loud boom from outside. “Shit!” Dr. Nyx pulled something out of her pocket, but it was too late. The window in the lab was shattered by a large rock flying through it.
So much for internally screaming. Niah ducked behind a lab table, it seemed like the best course of action.
The wall was pulled down, and two figures were looking in. Both were wearing black catsuits, and one was wearing a pair of goggles. Before anything else could happen, Dr. Nyx was slumped down on the ground, a tranq dart in her neck. “Confirm, target Shadow down.” A female voice spoke, and the figure wearing the goggles pulled them down, her eyes scanned the room.
“There was another person suppose to be here, correct?” The male spoke, looking around as well. He was rather buff, and had no visible weapons.
“Supposedly. We got intel they were using this spot to ‘recruit’ people to join them.”
“I’m here.” Niah’s voice sounded far away, even to her hearing. She slid out from under the table. “Please don’t shoot me.” The woman quirked an eyebrow, probably in confusion. “I’m not going to shoot you. You’re screaming too much to be part of them. Your mind is still a bit too open kid,” she said, tapping her temple.
“Sorry.” Niah took a couple deep breaths, though she was still freaking out the screaming stopped, for now.
“Thanks.” The woman tucked her gun away. “Was it just you here with her?”
“That’s all I saw. No one even in the lobby, but there are a few cars in the lot.” Her eyes got big. “Which may be people like me who had come here for the interview.”
“I’ll let HQ know. We can possibly trace them.” The male walked outside. The woman looked at Niah.
“You’ll be okay now. I’m Cassie, what is your name?”
“Niah Bautista, and thank you Cassie.” Her heart slowed to its normal rate, that was nice.
“It’s kind of my job, keeping an eye out for a fellow psychic.” Cassie seemed to smile for a moment. “So what all did she say to you before we got here?” Niah recounted her ‘interview’ for Cassie.
“Well fuck. I doubt that she’s the only one that knows about you now. Well, now here comes the part where you have options. I’m guessing you have a family? Friends?” Niah nodded to them, though as she nodded about her family she thought of her missing sister. “Shadow doesn’t care about them like you do. We’ve had reports of them killing whole families just to get to one psychic. Now, in those cases, we can offer you help. Protection. A way to start over. However, it is up to you. I’m not going to sugar coat it, but with your powers, you will just keep attracting attention.”
“The ability to see microbes never seemed so dangerous.”
“They can use you to find others. More people just like you. However, what you don’t know is what they do with you once they catch you. They wipe you. Who you are, your memories. You are their little puppet, and never yourself again.” Niah paled.
“I quite like who I am.”
“We at Sector X can help you. However, we can only make the offer. Whether or not you take it that is up to you Ms Niah.”
“My father? My friends? What will they know?” “Again, that is up to you. For some, they’ve had to fake their own passing, and for others, well, they know they are alive and well, but not where. I know, rough choice Niah, but, unfortunately, one you will have to make.”
“What’s safer for my father?” He was normal she had to protect him.
“Probably for him to believe you are gone. Dead. Then they can’t pry apart his brain trying to find you.” It made her heart ache, but Cassie was right, and Niah knew it. The way Nyx had spoken about her. Who knew how many knew about her? And what her power was. Niah had never thought it was all that special, but if it could be used to track down others then it couldn’t be a safe thing for her to be in Shadow’s hands.
Her friends they’d have to believe she was gone too. Maybe someday that could change, but for the ruse to work. Niah took a deep breath. It was the only option to protect those she cared about.
“Then I’ll do it.”
“Alright Ms. Bautista. As of this moment, you are dead. Killed in a tragic lab explosion. I know it will hurt for a while, but, honestly it is for the best.” Cassie looked like she wanted to offer some sort of comfort to Niah, but did not know how.
Niah nodded, “So what now?”
“We catch a flight to Virginia. From there, you’ll become part of Sector X.”
“My father lives in Virginia. He’s a diplomat for the Philippines.”
“Well. That will make your life interesting.”
Even though Niah knew she’d have to cut contact with her father she took the job. Niah knew it’d give her an opportunity not only to work on honing her power, but to also find her sister.
Hobbies: Cooking (she’s a hyper taster, even when she isn’t trying to focus on it), dance (Tinkling), anything to do with science (be it reading or doing).
Personality: Niah is shy, and quiet. She is the type of person who focuses completely on what she is doing forgetting the outside world exists (Niah suspects that is why her power is what it is).
Role in Sector X: Investigator, field agent, walking CSI kit.
Additional Info: Niah does not like to be touched, she does not offer her hand for shakes, but bows at introductions instead. She’s also very conscious of what she buys to wear because seams and tags irritate her. Niah doesn't handle loud noises well either, at least without being warned. If she's warned she shuts off her sense of sound.
Biography: Neil was born and raised in California. He grew up in the Central Valley in Fresno, where he ended up going to college for his undergraduate degree. He went to San Jose State for his Graduate degree in Computer Engineering. Even while he was growing up he was always good with codes and cyphers. His senior year of high school his CS teacher tested him with some supposedly impossible cyphers. Neil spent months on it, and wasn’t able to solve it until shortly before the change happened. The message his teacher had left was gibberish. The solution to the code gave him nothing. He called the school but the teacher was no longer there. Neil spent the next few months using the cypher anyway. In of itself he believed it to be a perfect cypher. When the change hit he understood that the cypher wasn’t perfect and there would never be a perfect one, but he could make them more difficult to crack now.
Neil was recruited by Sector X as he worked for a prominent company already doing their deep level encryption.
Hobbies: Computers in general, D&D (and other tabletop games)
Personality: Neil is, simply put, a nerd. He loves computers and games. He especially loves brain challenges and is always up for a game, be it trivia or something more complicated. He’s surprisingly outgoing, and was in several clubs during his school days.
Power/ Talent: Psychic Camouflage - Natasha has the ability to go unnoticed by those around her. This can be through any of the senses, though the more it drains on her. Through sight, she'd be essentially invisible; through sound, unheard; touch, not there, etc. She can still be noticed through electronic means, as her power affects the brains of those around her. She can extend this power to cover others, if they are incredibly close to her, but it is extremely draining.
Biography: Natasha was quite popular, much to her chagrin, in highschool. She went to a small, backwaters school, and pickings were slim, so she became the object of everyone's desire. She wished for nothing more to be unnoticed, normal, like anyone else. Then one day, it happened. No one noticed her, no matter what she did. She couldn't have been happier.
Until the men showed up for her little brother. She didn't know who they were, but they were there for him, for his powers. They were barely able to get away, thanks to her own powers, but they had to leave their parents behind, for their own safety. They've been on the run together ever since.
Hobbies: Watching people and animals while unnoticed, cooking, and legos.
Personality: Natasha is fiercely protective of her little brother, almost overly so. Being on the run for so long has made her obsessive, controlling, and often paranoid. How she treats her brother though, is very different from everyone else. She never really gets close to anyone, by choice.
Role in Sector X: Not in Sector X (currently :P)
Additional Info: Loves spiders, deathly afraid of birds.
Name: Benjamin Felds
Age: 14
Appearance:
Power/Talent: Object-Environmental Empathy - Benjamin can see the history of any object he grasps with both hands. Where its been, who has held it, what it has done, all of this information is available to him. He can use a much more watered down version of this for areas he's in, more getting vibes and feelings than hard information. This makes him very sensitive to changes and extreme situations. This can work on people, but only with their consent, or if they are unconscious.
Biography: Benjamin was always been a shy boy, preferring the company of his action figures and comics than people. He's always been a very curious boy, which had a tendency to get him into trouble. This culminated one year when his parents took him to a fair, and took him to the Guess Your Age game. The carnie didn't get his age right, but Ben got the carnie's correct, with exact birthday. Surprised, the carnie got him to do it to other people, causing a small fervor. This event is what led to unknown men coming for Ben, for his powers.
He and his sister have been on the run ever since she saved him. They use his powers to find safety, and hers to stay that way. He doesn't talk much, but idolizes his big sister. He thinks of her like a super heroine.
Hobbies: Comics, action figures, guessing games
Personality: Shy, nerdy, sensitive
Role in Sector X: Not in Sector X (currently :P)
Additional Info: Love museums, especially touching the exhibits.
Talia stands at five foot four and has piercing green eyes. Her brunet locks like to form into curls that are trimmed around her face, but a bit longer toward the back. She prefers to wear loose clothing and her favorite hat, which her mother embroidered a white leaping tiger on its back and a gray baying wolf on its front.
Power / Talent: Physical Class. Animal morphing: She can shift into nearly any animal. Downside: She can only speak in the tongue of the creature she has morphed into. When she shifts back into human form, she tends to retain the personality traits of the animal, and the longer she remains in the same animal form, the more difficult it becomes for her to shift directly back into a human, and the amount of time she retains the personality of the animal(s) increases. Animal imitation: Even when not shifted, she is capable of taking on the abilities of animals. She could have the speed of a cheetah, reflexes of a cat, agility of a monkey, generation abilities of a lizard… Downside: The weaknesses of the animal she imitates also become her weaknesses, and she will retain some of the creature’s personality for a short while after.
Biography: Ever since she was a toddler, she has had a love for animals, and always seemed to be capable of telling what an animal needed or wanted. Growing up in South Carolina, she had nearly every kind of household pet a kid could want at one point in time or another. Until she was thirteen, she lived a normal life, filled with friends and family. Then, everything changed when her powers emerged. A couple days after the development of Talia’s telekinesis and telepathy, her parents discussed the happenings in hushed tones behind closed doors, leaving Talia panic-stricken alone in her room with only her cat, McMuffin, for comfort. With the newscast about the millions of others who had suddenly gained powers running through her mind, she couldn’t help but wish that she, too, was a cat. Such a simple life they lived, with only the worry of where best to nap to bother them. No sooner had the thought crossed her mind, than she felt as if her body had turned into taffy, morphing and shrinking until she came eye-to-eye with a frightened McMuffin. That night, her parents, wanting to keep her safe from government and other, less enthusiastic non-powered people, forced her into a reclusive lifestyle, limiting her contact with the outside world until she could control her abilities. After about a year, Talia finally had a handle on her shifting and imitation. She managed to convince her parents to allow her to attend a normal high school, where she graduated alongside her many friends with few incidents and managing to keep her Psychic side a secret from all but other Psychics. Now, she lives in her own apartment a couple cities over with her best furry friends, McMuffin and Ronaldo, her full-time waitressing job just managing to pay the bills. Free of her parents’ watchful eyes, Talia has begun to use her powers more and more, using them regularly to help the non-powered people and other animals whenever she can, regardless of what form that may take. Though she continues to use caution, the sensation of being watched has been prickling at her nerves as of late. Whether the feeling comes from the heightened paranoia that often spills over from her frequent shifting into a cat, or from a real-life threat, she cannot quite say.
Hobbies: Playing with and talking to her cats, McMuffin and Ronaldo, volunteering at animal shelters, hiking, really anything that gets her out in nature.
Personality: When not influenced by a recent shift, Talia is a kind, caring, and gentle girl. She is highly empathetic, caring for both humans and animals alike... unless they threaten her family or loved ones. Then, even the fury of a bear should cower in her wake. She is an active person who often can’t sit still for long, and suffers from a heavy dose of impatience. She also absolutely loves to take advantage of her abilities, using them whenever she gets the chance.
Role in Sector X: None as of yet.
Additional Info: Though she can’t control them, animals have a natural attraction to, and are protective of, her--from the usually docile to normally hostile--so it’s rare for her to be found without some kind of creature following her around. Because of this, she often keeps a small bag with various cat and dog treats stuffed into one of her pockets.
Appearance: Andor stands at a respectable 6 feet 5 inches in height. He’s decently built. He has somewhat longer blonde hair. His remaining eye is surprisingly red in color, and the socket of the missing eye is kept covered by a patch.
Huginn and Muninn, his two ravens that are manifestations of his powers, tend to appear on his shoulders. They are both somewhat large ravens, each missing an eye. They do occasionally simply fly around him.
Power: “Huginn and Muninn”. These are manifestations of his power, both appearing as ravens. Huginn is missing his right eye, and Muninn is missing his left eye. Both give different aspects to Andor’s visual and aural senses.
Huginn gives Andor the capability of seeing psychic powers. This does not mean he can tell if someone is psychic, but instead allows him to see psychic powers that are manifested as if they were lights. Each kind of power has its own color. Muninn also pierces illusions if focused enough.
Muninn gives Andor the ability to see and hear any event going on within a couple hundred feet of himself. Normally, activating this causes a bit of sensory overload since he hears and sees so much at once, but with focus he can zero in on specific events.
Biography: Andor was a pretty average American for most of his life. He went to school, got good grades, and went to college the year after many of the psychics started to appear. He’d always thought that they were, in a way, freaks, people whose powers came from some force beyond understanding. Maybe it was radiation or whatever, but he was determined to keep going with his life. He went to a college in California, and his life changed there.
Andor began to see things. He could get brief glimpses of ethereal weirdness, especially around anyone that he knew to be psychic, but he always thought it was normal for that to appear. It wasn’t until a large raven perched on his windowsill that he knew something was weird. The raven had a single eye, blood red in color, and it was quite large.
Oh, and it spoke to him. Andor had an interesting time coming to grips with this, but he had seen that some humans had weird powers, maybe this raven got that too. It called itself Huginn. It asked about Andor, and what he wanted to do with his life, and what it was like to have arms. When Andor finally tired, he slept with Hugin still in the window.
The next day he awoke to a startling revelation - His left eye was missing, gone. And there were two ravens in the room. The second - missing an eye as well, called itself Muninn. The ravens had taken his eye. Or so they said. And then they began to follow him.
And boy did he have an interesting day. The twin birds perched on his shoulders, and he could see many things he couldn’t before. He seemed to know everything that was going on around him, and he could -see- psychic powers. Even the most subtle telepathy shone brightly to him. Andor knew that, like others in the world, he’d manifested some kind of psychic power. And it was horrible. He dropped out of college, because it was impossible to continue when he could tell the goings-on in every classroom in the building at once.
He was homeless for a while. It was hard enough to function right while having the two ravens giving them constant sensory overload. At least they were decent company though.
Sector X found him soon, luckily, and he allowed himself to be recruited. They helped him focus his powers so that he could blank out the input from his ravens and even cause them to vanish until called. Once he’d trained enough, he was given the task of recruitment and finding other psychics.
Hobbies: Spot-the-difference games, talking to Huginn and Muninn.
Personality: Andor is generally a pretty easygoing guy in social situations that do not require a lot of seriousness. If the situation does get serious, he tends to be quite quiet, usually because he’s focusing on his powers. He doesn’t particularly like to fight, instead preferring to observe from a distance if he must. He has proven to be a pretty good marksman though, despite having only a single eye.
Role in Sector X: Finder. Seek out new recruits and get them to join before Shadow can sink their claws into them.
Power/ Talent: Surge- Sophie's power is very unique in that it relates to other psychic abilities. Specifically, she has the ability to increase the power of nearby psychics by several magnitudes. How great the boost is depends on Sophie's interaction with the intended recipient(s); she subconsciously buffs all abilities in the area around her by a small amount, but if she focuses she can increase the degree on specific allies. Conversely, if her emotions run high and she loses herself, the effects increase and decrease completely at random until she calms down. But the most powerful form of her ability comes from touch; if Sophie physically touches another psychic and applies herself, their abilities increase in power and flexibility by an absurd amount while the contact is maintained.
Biography: Six years ago, Sophie Castellia was just a normal teenage girl living a normal teenage life. She went to school, she did her homework, and she daydreamed. But, where most girls her age daydreamed about boys (and some of them about other girls) or their ideal, fulfilling careers, Sophie daydreamed about something more abstract; she dreamed of doing some good in the world, helping to better the planet she called home in some meaningful way. And she held that idea into High School, where she signed up for the ROTC program. Her intention was to use that to go into a career in the Armed Forces, but it was cut short when her physical capacities were found wanting. The program told her "Sorry, no thank you" and left it at that. At first, she thought, it was no matter; surely there were other avenues, other paths by which she could help others. And so she soldiered on (Author's Note: hehe. Puns).
Something changed, however, when her unique ability woke up. She'd known about the generic psychic abilities, although hers were weak enough that she could hide them, the same as everyone else. But it wasn't until just after her High School graduation that she discovered Surge. And its discovery is an incident she does not like to talk about. But because of it, Sophie has gone into self-inflicted isolation; she doesn't associate with anybody anymore, psychic or not. And yet, there may yet remain her desire to do good for the world, somewhere...
Hobbies: Reading, drawing, and gardening (it helps keep her calm).
Personality: Sophie is, or rather was, an idealist. She was quick with a kind word, or a hug for those okay with that, and always had something positive or optimistic to say, sometimes almost to the line of naivety. Theoretically, she still is of that quality- but it's all been buried under a mask of stone that refuses to connect with anyone.
Role in Sector X: N/A
Additional Info: Sophie's basic abilities (telekinesis and telepathy) are comparatively weak... unless she Surges herself, that is.
Name: Alex Mercede
Age: 30
Appearance:
Power/ Talent: Wave Motion- less a unique ability and more a unique use of telekinesis, Alex can psychically project waves of force outward around him. While this has applications in combat via projecting the waves with enough strength to do damage to targets or structures, Alex primarily uses them as a personal sonar. By projecting the waves throughout an area and bouncing them back to himself, Alex can create a psychic map of the area with all its nooks, crannies, and occupying objects in his mind's eye.
Biography: Nobody at Sector X can really pinpoint when exactly Alex first showed up to work. All they know is he's been there a long time, although the last person to joke he's been there longer than the Director received a reprimand that left them shaken for a week. If someone were to look it up, however, they would find the story of a young man from Los Angeles whose neighborhood had erupted in a spree of psychic gang violence shortly after the gangsters began to use it to their advantage. Strangely enough, almost smack in the middle of the turf war was a single, small apartment complex that remained untouched by the violence. Further scouting by Sector X personnel revealed that the reason behind was a defense of the building put on by various traps and a set of RC cars, copters, and planes armed with tazers, mace, and the occasional flashbang. And all of them were operated by a single man living on the 2nd floor who managed to expertly control and direct the arsenal despite having no cameras and never leaving his room.
When questioned about his methods and motives, Alex was very straightforward about his answers. He calmly explained his unique ability, and simply stated that he would rather his home not be caught up by a bunch of "angry, squabbling teenagers." When asked if he wanted to join Sector X, the otherwise unremarkable man asked only that his neighbors be given the protection they deserved before he left. When Sector X agreed, so too did he.
Hobbies: PC Gaming (particularly the RTS genre), Playing with RC devices, Tai Chi
Personality: Alex is a very direct man in everything he does. He doesn't mince words, nor does he sugarcoat or downplay anything. He tells things like they are, and he will say what he thinks needs to be heard whether the other party wants to hear it or not. Aside from that, he has two general 'modes' to himself; the first, his ordinary mode, is just a typical, everyday guy. When he gets knee-deep in a puzzle or competition, however, he takes on an authoritative demeanor much like a General coming into command of his battalion. Excepting those that outrank him, of course.
Role in Sector X: Field Agent, Strategic Command, Programmer
Additional Info: Alex is never seen without his headphones. They're noise cancelling to an absurd degree, but he only ever wears them when he plays against Koreans in RTS games...
Nickolas stands at five foot nine, with short brown hair and grey eyes. He has a bit of stubble, and permanent bags under his eyes. He is of slender build, with some signs of being a little malnourished at some point in his life. He does have muscles from his years of hard labor.
Power/ Talent: Nickolas can ‘talk’ to machines and ask favors of them. They usually respond in kind and do those favors. Due to this, he has used his powers in desperation for some rather unorthodox means. However, he prefers not to use his powers unless needed.
Biography: Nickolas was the third son born to his parents, in rural Russia. His parents were farmers, with no means to provide for the young son they had never planned for. So, they gave him up for adoption. However, this resulted in young Nickolas spending quite a few years in the orphanage, since the 80’s were not good times in Mother Russia.
Nickolas eventually ran away from the orphanage at age twelve. He lived on the streets, begging for money and food. Eventually he was found by the police and tossed back in the orphanage where he stayed till he was sixteen and aged out of the orphanage system. The Russia he aged out to was different than the one he was raised in. In the last five years, a lot had changed. The Soviet Union was no more, and Russia was changed.
He bounced around from job to job, doing a lot of hard labor with machines throughout most of his adult life. He never seemed to really settle anywhere, partly due to never feeling like he belonged anywhere. However, he always stayed in his home country, up until a point.
Things changed for Nickolas when he ‘awoke’ to his powers along with most of the rest of the psychics. He found he could talk to the machines he was working on, and get them to help him with his work. However, he was chased out of that job once it was found out he was ‘talking’ to the machines. Psychic’s tended to be feared in the early days, and this caused Nickolas no end of trouble.
He eventually decided to leave his home country, moving to the United States, where he hoped to find some sort of permanent work. So far, nothing. He does hope to find something soon.
Hobbies: Nickolas does not have much in the way of hobbies. He does enjoy having just pleasant conversations with machines. One ‘hobby’ he has is running, but for reasons.
Personality: Nickolas tends to be rather shy and quiet. He is use to blending into crowds easily. He is a bit flighty and twitchy. All he really wants is one place to really call home.
Role in Sector X: N/A [Will be most likely in the Technopath department when he joins.]
Additional Info: Speaks very broken English. Keeps all his belongings in one bag.
