The pieces of the elemental plate, the one thing keeping the planet in balance, and, at peace. Before the creatures of this world split it into eight pieces, numerous wars were fought over the thing, with nobody holding the plate for very long. Millions of lives were lost just over the dreams of one king or another to rule the entire planet with the plate's power, of course, after hundreds of years of wars, an agreement was formed, that the plate would be split into eight pieces, and each piece was to be given to the eight countries that were around at the time, Gaia, Nature, Water, Ice, Air, Lightning, Fire, and finally Lava, with each one getting its respective piece, and with each nation appointing a guardian to protect their piece. Interestingly, this had some sort of effect on the planet, with Natura, the gaia nation, growing into a huge, mountainous forest, Aqua, the water nation, flooded, Zephyr, the air nation was literally thrown into the air, and suspended there, and Magma, the fire nation started burning up, its plants wilting, and a nearby volcano erupting... of course, only the non-magical wildlife had to adapt, considering that the magical creatures were usually immune to their own element, unfortunately, this also left the center of the continent as a barren wasteland where feral beasts rule, though, a few families were separated due to a difference in their powers. Oddly, around this time, the lava, nature, ice, and lightning nations seemed to be wiped off the face of the planet, with no real explanation.

Two hundred years after the plate's split, and new guardians should have been given the job of protecting each piece... however, by now, only Natura cares about the old traditions, and some countries, such as Aqua have forgotten about their piece, let alone appointed someone to guard it. Zephyr has since made theirs into a centerpiece for the capitol city, and Magma seems to power their forge with their piece, and of course, nobody even knows that there are eight pieces to the plate, rather than four. Just as well... these four forgotten pieces have been moved, their effects already becoming apparent with frequent lightning storms in Natura, fish killed by overheating in the waters of Aqua, the constant lava flow freezing over, and snowstorms in Magma, and lastly, power outages rampant in Zephyr, a nation that has since come to depend on electricity. Obviously, nobody knows about these pieces, so they find someone or something else to blame... for example, Zephyr blames Natura for their power outages, Aqua blames their newly-discovered power source, solstones, and the power plants that use them on their overheating ocean, Natura blames everyone else for not holding to the old ideals for their lightning storms and forest fires, Magma thinks they're under attack from Aqua, blaming the snowstorms and dropping temperatures on Aqua spies.

Name: David Mason
Age: 22
Gender: Male
Species: Phoenix
Appearance: He stands at a somewhat short 3'4" tall, and he, oddly enough, looks like a "true phoenix", but with mostly green feathers instead of red/orange. His tail feathers, and chest feathers are brown, and he has a crest of feathers with the same coloration on his head, as well. His legs are a black color, and covered in spikes resembling thorns, which, oddly enough, never seem to hurt him when he rests. The underside of his feet are covered in similar thorns, though, unlike the weaker thorns on his legs, these thorns are as tough as his talons. His beak is somewhat curved, and is a black color, while his eyes are the same brown color as his tail feathers.

Bio: His parents were stonemasons, who were one of the few magical creatures that actually lived and operated out of the badlands. They typically supplied various adventurers and passers-by with shelter, as well as food, given that they'd always move around in the badlands, building a new home every time they did, and leaving a few edible plants, as well as a home behind whenever they did. They remained unknown for years, with their work often just thought of as some sort of 'wonder of nature', or just a simple rarity, that is, until they actually visited one of their old homes, only to find a gryphon, supposedly from Natura, already living there. They explained that they've been building these homes for years, and he's the first creature they've seen actually use any of them. The gryphon, seeing potential in their work, led them back to Natura, specifically, Solum Vis, where they lived for a few years until they were told to move to the new capitol, which was underground. It was there, and then when David, himself was hatched... yes, only a few days after they moved into the new capitol of Natura, where the family would spend the rest of their years, though, they would occasionally head out of the underground area to fly.

David worked as an apprentice stonemason under his parents, and whatever tutors they could find... and while his parents usually built entire cave-houses using their magic, all David ever did for these first few years as an apprentice was make a few bricks, or reshape a slightly rough rock into a smoother rock. He, much like most of the population of Natura, had both gaia-based magic, and nature-based magic, and whenever he wasn't paying attention to his work, which was often, he usually daydreamed about living anywhere but in a cave, he'd accidentally have a plant grow out of whatever it is he was making, which, of course, would cause whichever apprentices were nearby to laugh at him. Most of his peers were dragons of varying types, and they'd usually pick on David for being what he was... even the wyvern kid picked on him from time to time, even if she was the closest thing he ever had to a friend. David... honestly wasn't nearly as good a mason as his parents were, and he wasn't exactly excited to take their job once his apprenticeship was over. He heard that soldiers got the see the rest of the world, and, though he didn't like fighting, he did want to see the rest of the world.

The day after, David was, as usual, working on some brick or another that was probably going to be used for something. He didn't particularly care about this brick, but he did hear that the current guardian was going to be here for some sort of important mission, so, he tried to make his brick as good as he could get it, though, unfortunately for David, he was still working on it when the guardian, an old gryphon who, even in his advanced age looks as if he could kill you on a moment's notice, arrived, which, of course, distracted him for long enough to have a plant grow in the brick. The other apprentices started laughing at David, as per the norm by now, but the guardian didn't do as such, instead, he took a look at the plant in the brick, cutting one of its thorny vines, and used some sort of weird magic on the green liquid that spilled out of the cut. "I wouldn't be laughing if I were you... you apprentices DO know what this is, right?" the apprentices shook their heads, as if they didn't know, and, of course, David didn't know, either. "It's a prickled screamer... its poison is well-known for causing pain, and causing its victims to scream in agony, as well as leaving its victims just at the brink of death before vanishing from their system... it's a rare plant that imitates the edible prickle flower, and a difficult plant to make via magic," the guardian explained to the room, and the apprentices started talking among each other, until the guardian announced that he was here to choose candidates for a new guardian. While the others tried to impress the guardian, David was chosen, and, oddly enough, flown to Solum Vis for his training.

David... wasn't actually all that great at non-magical fighting, initially, and he didn't seem to learn as quickly as the other students, however, when it came to magic, he was only surpassed by a gryphon who seemed to be part crow and part panther... just as well, as the gryphon, in addition to the usual gaia magic, seemed to use a weird, almost invisible power. David heard about some creatures being capable of using our own shadows against us, but he passed it off as some sort of myth, or a wives tale, yet that 'myth' seems to describe almost exactly this... the power of shadows will be hidden, those who use it are afraid of being captured... you have to seek the magic, yourself if you are to finger someone as a shadow user, but, beware, the shadow user will know stronger magic than thee... and they won't have any morals, or honor, beasts that they are. Unfortunately, the gryphon noticed David staring at him, and he started pleading that David never tell anyone about this, that his shadow magic should remain a secret, that he isn't such a bad guy, but David didn't listen to him. David told the guardian all about the shadowy powers that the other gryphon had... and the guardian didn't do anything, that is, other than tell David that he already knew about that, and that now, with what David just did, the only way he could be a guardian is if he beat the other would-bes in the final test, which was going to take place in about an hour.

Weaknesses: David is not a fan of fire... or lava, for that matter. Basically, his feathers are extremely flammable, and his skin burns somewhat easily without them... or if they're on fire, of course.

Other: Uh... yeah, THIS RP IS TEH WORSTEST!... kidding, of course, it's my RP, lol.

Name: Singed Strange
Age: 39
Gender: Male
Species: Dragon

Bio: Based on his appearance, one would assume that Singed was some sort of brutal monster, one with little brain mass who fought every chance he got. This would be wrong. He is, however fucking nuts. For his entire life, Singed had always been a special child. One that would have made for prime bully fodder...if the bullies weren't terrified of him. One of the first really blatant signs of his insanity was his inability to remember the names of anyone, and instead choosing to call people either by their title, or Steve (for males) and Jenny (for females). Now you would think, you'd really think that with a mind this messed up, he clearly had to come from a broken family, but nope. His family was mind numbingly normal. Worried about their poor insane son, Singed's parents took him to counseling. Not even five minutes later, the therapist ran out of the room screaming. To this day, no one is entirely sure what happened in that room. And so, Singed's childhood conditioned without any attempts to 'fix' it, mostly because he had been blacklisted from every psychiatric facility

Despite having a natural affinity for Fire magic because of his heritage, Singed ignored it in favor of Obscurity, because, in his words, it would make him one step closer to godhood. Using his affinity for Fire magic with Obscurity magic lead to some rather unique results. Which the general public still hasn't decided if it is a crime against nature, or just mind numbingly weird. As scary as he was, Singed wasn't violent at all. In fact, nothing short of an attack on his person could get him to respond with violence. This was the sole reason why he hadn't been locked up for public safety.

Singed spent most of his life learning how to use his Obscurity magic, neglecting his Fire magic training in the process. This has left his skill with his natural magic nearly nonexistent. His many experiments have also left his neighborhood deathly afraid of corn. He insists that he's a scientist, yet he doesn't act like one. all of his experiments seem to have no greater purpose, and in fact look more like some who's board just messing around. While one might jump to the conclusion that these 'experiments' are just a front to hurt people, said argument would quickly fall apart upon learning that Singed's most request test subject is himself. He might be crazy, but he's still harmless enough to leave alone. If anything, he makes the neighborhood safer. Not many are willing to rob someone who's so close to that crazy guy and his corn...not after the last one.

One of his more crazy forms of crazy is his talking to inanimate object. He will sometimes have complete conversations with them, and sometimes even get into arguments with them. This can lead him to destroying said object over whatever insult he believes it gave him. In fact, he once tried to torture a garden gnome, because he thought it was a forward scout for the cookie elf branch of the Candyland army. He tried all sorts of things; from locking it into a box, to locking it into a box with the corn, to playing good cop bad cop with Turtle, to exposing him to music by teenage artists, yet nothing worked. Eventually, he realized he wouldn't be getting information out of him. So while he greatly respected him, Steve the elf/gnome died in fire. After that, Singed found the Candyland army's forward base (a small patch of plants growing near Magma) and killed all of them with corn and spiders.

Even though he was full blown crazy, his parents never resented Singed for that. If anything, they were more worried about him then their own reputation. This was something that Singed easily took notice of, so he still retains a healthy relationship with them to this day. Despite never having any sort of official job, Singed always seemed to have enough money to feed himself. Singed being Singed, no one was brave enough to ask him where he kept getting money. If someone did work up the nerve to ask him what he was doing with his time, he would answer with something along the lines of 'unlocking the secrets of the world' although he wouldn't go into detail about just what that entailed. Eventually one day, he packed up his things and left his life long home of Magma. When asked where he was going and why, Singed would simply reply by calling whoever asked an ignorant fool and go about his business.

Weaknesses: His elemental weakness is Ice, however his other weaknesses are much more note worthy. They include, but aren't limited to; the number four, butter, orchestral music, getting stabbed in the eye, foreigners (sometimes), being killed, and bubbles.

Other: Gentlemen...behold!

If you really need me to go into more detail with his bio then I can, however I wanted to keep it short since I only want to give people a rough idea what he's like right now.

Hm... I'm a little on the fence about this one, I mean, I did say that his bio had to be at least three paragraphs. I'd ask Kabling, but he fell asleep... not to mention the fact that he's throwing around the 'M' word again, you know... Mary Sue... so... I dunno, honestly.

As I've said, the bio's a little short, and I'm not sure if I should allow someone to replace their primary magic (the one that's supposed to be [insert nation here's] magic, but... I mean, if Kabling's fine with it, I could chalk it up to insanity... or, if you're okay with it, you could have him use Fire/Obscurity, and have him draw with fire.

Well he didn't really replace his primary magic, so much as focus on something else while using his primary magic as a catalyst for his magic. I'm okay with using Fire/Obscurity, but I'm not sure how that would fix anything. Also, if it really bugs you, then I can add more to the bio if you want me to.

I wouldn't mind if you added a bit more to your bio. Sorry for being like this, but yeah, everyone's primary magic is determined by where they were born/hatched/ect, as well as where their parents were born/hatched/ect. So, for example, my character was born in Natura, thus, has Gaia as his primary magic. Again, sorry.

Would it be better if I changed his magic from Obscurity/Lava, to Lava/Obscurity? Because Lava really is his primary magic that he got from his family and home, but he's neglected to train it in favor of Obscurity magic. And even then, he still can't use Obscurity magic without Lava magic.

Erm... again, I'm not so sure... maybe it's a little too limiting, but your primary magic should be fire, 'cause you're from Magma... do you think that's a little too limiting, though? I mean, I guess I could let people have characters use a related secondary magic as their primary, such as someone using Nature/Lightning, and being from Gaia... that would open up a few more possibilities.

Oh...I think I see what the problem is; I thought that those from Magma had Lava as their primary magic (mostly because of the names). Okay, I get it now, I'll get to work on fixing up my CS. I thought you were upset that he was mostly using Obscurity magic over Lava magic.

***edit

Okay, I added two more paragraphs to his Bio, and changed his Lava magic for Fire. Is that any better?
