Important notice! As I have now received 5 different character applications for the element of fire, I am notifying everyone in advance that I will only accept ONE more application for that position before closing it. This is on a first come first serve basis and I will not accept anyone staking a claim on the last slot without submitting a COMPLETED character sheet.
Since all the elements have been filled, does that mean there isn't any space in the roleplay left?
From what I understand, the plan is to have everyone "audition" for the privilege of being the one to fill that space, and the GM decides who he wants to keep and who he wants to boot. It'll be like a presidential debate!
Just gonna leave this here. (Reposting from the other thread) I did flesh out her backstory a little more to better tie in her element, so hopefully that will be helpful.
Name: Audra Hesten
Element: Wind/Weather
Age: 17
Gender: Female
Appearance:*Picture to come* Two things immediately draw your eye when you see Audra: (1) her deep red hair and (2) her small, boyish build (5'1"). Her skin is very pale, despite working outside daily (a mystery to the Hesten family, and oftentimes yet another point of ridicule), but her grey/green eyes only stand out even more strikingly because of this. Her mood can be measured by the color of her eyes, as when she is content and happy they favor a greener shade, but when she is angry they turn grey to match her inner emotional storm. Because she is usually out in the orchards with her brothers, Audra usually ends up wearing their hand-me-down work shirts and pants, which only end up hanging pitifully on her thin frame, despite her mother's efforts to tailor them smaller. She wears her hair down and free as much as she can (which reaches the bottom of her shoulder blades), but will wear it in a braid to keep it out of the way as she goes about her work.
Theme Song: Still being determined, but it'll be great. Fear not!
Nature: Audra has a spunky, fiery nature to match her red hair. She speaks her mind and is a passionate, adventurous soul. She feels semi-obsessively driven to prove herself, to prove that she can do things just as well or better than everyone else. She is also mischievous and will likely not pass up an opportunity for a good prank. She has a short temper and holds grudges. While she likes to be the center of attention, she really does make an incredibly loyal friend.
Backstory: Audra hails from the farmlands of Diedremere, where she and her family make their living off of the fruit orchards that had passed through the seemingly innumerable family generations. Every Hesten was expected to work that very land until they no longer lived, according to ancient tradition. Audra, however, was never satisfied to be tied down by this tradition. Her family have often felt exasperated with her dreams of leaving to live a life of adventure, a notion which seems pointless and frankly unimaginable to them. Her 5 older brothers (Audra had arrived as a surprise to her family 10 years after the youngest boy) would tease her as they all worked together tending the orchards, enjoying the fiery, indignant responses from their only sister. Audra was oftentimes overlooked outside of these moments of ridicule, however, for many reasons. Her small body was much weaker and slower than her brothers, causing them to generally just do things themselves rather than wait for her. This, however, would spark her competitive and stubborn spirit, and she would try to keep up and do things herself, no matter the cost to her.
Despite these things, Audra loved her family deeply, but just wanted to be able to have them see her as their equal. They basically only saw her as helpful when they needed someone to climb to the top of the trees to grab the high and hidden fruit there. This Audra loved to do, as she loved the feeling of being high up and feeling the wind blow through her hair and through the treetops. To her, it felt as if every breeze whispered to her of better things, and it became her inner symbol of the freedom she so desperately sought. Oftentimes when Audra felt like being alone, that is where she would go: to the treetops to imagine the wind telling her of the adventure and freedom that lay far beyond the orchards.
And oh the stories the wind told.
They told her of leaving the farm, of really making herself into something amazing. She didn't even have what she wanted to do or where she wanted to go clearly defined in her mind - those details weren't as important as seeing the amazement and pride in her family member's faces as they saw what she had accomplished all on her own. This is what fueled Audra in her passion to be different and show them all what she could do, always feeling a sense of encouragement with every passing breeze. Her family, however, did not see her ambitions in this light. They thought her a foolish young girl and figured this "phase" would pass as maturity settled. Little did they know of Audra's plans now that she was just about to have her 17th birthday: to gather a few of her belongings and leave with the wind to her back to live her dreams....whatever that meant. She supposed she'd figure out the specifics on the way.
Goal(s): Audra dreams of becoming wealthy and powerful, leaving her family's farm far behind her. She longs to be able to prove herself to her family, blowing them away with her grand achievements.
@Jay Kalton As Scrapula has said-- certainly not. You may absolutely apply for whatever element you wish. Please refer to Rule 1 in the rules section for applications.
Appearance: Kayla is a skinny and lithe. Her skin is pale and grey due to her lack of exposure to the sun. Her eyes are a pale blue, almost whit and her hair is stark white. Her face is small and round and her lip are pale pink. On her cheeks are two scars that run parallel to each other. She is 5’5” and is extremely skinny. Her ribs are just visible through her chest and her breasts are almost none existent. Her frame is small with thin limbs can squeeze through the smallest of windows. Her back is pockmarked with small burns and bruises. On her chest is a black raven tattoo with the eye done in red. She wears brown leather trousers that are well worn, patched and stitched up. A dull grey cotton shirt that is also patched, with stiches fixing any rips covers her torso. Her belt is made of good quality leather and has numerous small leather pouches attached by cords. Her feet are bare. Her hands are thin with her fingers very thin. Her hands are covered in a pair of thin gloves made of black wool.
Nature: Kayla has a loud mouth and will always speak her mind. Even if it means she gets beaten up. Quick to anger, her punches are vicious and she always fights dirty. Growing up on the streets means she is always ready to fight and is always angry. While she might appear angry on the outside she can warm up to people over time and will become extremely loyal. She is full of passionate intensity to make her goal come true, to become wealthy and never have to steal again. Her spirit is like a fire, sometimes dim, sometimes like a inferno but always lit. She has a glint in her eyes that makes people slightly wary that she might trick them.
Backstory: Being an orphan on the streets of Jeorvo is a tough life. You have to learn how to steal, fight and be able to run from a young age. Kayla was just that, an orphan. Her father was a trader, her mother a prostitute. When she fell pregnant with Kayla she decided not to drink the poison most prostitutes did to kill unwanted babies. Instead she raised Kayla by herself from a small cellar in the side of an alley. Their home was just one room, barely big enough to stand in. From the age of five Kayla was going out and begging for food. By the age of eight she was stealing food off carts and running away from angry owners. When she was nine a new gang of thieves came into power and killed her mother for not agreeing to their terms. Kayla quickly agreed to their terms of being a thief for them in return for her life. She was made to sneak into warehouses and steal items, or take coins straight from the purses of the rich as they watched spectacles. Over the years she got better at thieving.
Due to her nature of rarely venturing out during day she slowly became pale and gaunt from lack of sun. Most of the stuff she would steal would go straight to the crime bosses. What stuff she earned was spent on food. She could only afford just enough to survive but nothing more. As the years progressed she was forced to do harder and harder tasks but her rewards weren’t any better. She would be beaten and burnt if she didn’t meet her quota and barely rewarded if she did. When she turned sixteen, even though she didn’t know her true age, she felt an urge to get out of Jeorvo. Over the year she slowly started stockpiling food and supplies to leave.
Goal(s): Survive another day. Make money. Eat. Learn how to read, write and fight with a sword. Kill the crime bosses who killed her mum.
Inventory: -clothes -belt -pouches (inside are flint and steel, a few coppers, a lock of her mums hair, a wooden comb, a pebble with a rune, a picture of a dragon on a scrap of paper, a few lockpicks) -a small iron dagger -a hunk of hard bread -a small chunk of hard cheese -skin of water -thin bedroll -thin coil of rope
Thank God I've finally got this CS done xD (the back story was a bit long, so I put it in a hider.)
Edit: Got Aleta's theme song going.
Name: Aleta Stormcrest
Element: Wind
Age: 19
Gender: Female
Appearance: Aleta is a tall and fit woman, with a slightly toned body and strong arms. She has a honey-coloured skin tone and a pointed face. She has dark brown eyes and hair, which is slightly feathered and cut to her shoulders. People often mistake Aleta to be in her early to mid-twenties, with her sharp facial features and tall stature. She weighs in at around 156 lbs and has a height of 5'11. Aleta has also been noted to have extremely messy bed hair.
Aleta doesn't were anything too extravagant. She often wears a loose, mahogany coloured top with a simple belt around her waist. Accompanies with her dark brown pants are a pair of leather boots. She wears a leather rucksack and an arming sword strapped across her back.
Nature: Most if the time, Aleta is a calm and relaxed person, always managing to keep her composure in tight situations. She's often quiet, but doesn't mind having a little chat if she's comfortable with the person talking to her. Although Aleta dislikes getting into arguments, she will retort back when pushed to her absolute limit. Fits of rage don't come often to this woman, but when a close friend has died or been severely injured in front of her, Aleta's calm personality does a complete 180.
Even though Aleta seems quite introverted and shy, she is a capable leader. She is quick to strategise and when things go wrong, Aleta is able to calm things down a little. She has a high tolerance for others and she cares for other people's lives as well as her own. No matter what, Aleta will always try to protect her close friends and comrades, even willing to sacrifice her own life for her friends' well being.
Cautious and observant, Aleta always tries to learn from past mistakes to improve her combat style and strategies. She's not one to rush into a situation without planning anything out first, always thinking about what the enemies' next move could be. Although she is a strong-minded and determined person, she knows when to back out of a situation. She tries not to make any rushed and hasty conclusions and, as learnt from the past, to never underestimate her opponent.
Theme Song:
"Now, I advise that you all stand back for this one... Things are about to get a little dirty."
Aleta was born in a place called Knightmoor, a small town north of Frel. The inhabitants lived, hunted and thrived in the forest, and there they trade their works with the people of Frel. The town of Knightmoor was renown for the skill in forging swords and other weapons, and a majority of the people living their were blacksmiths. Aleta was the daughter of one of these blacksmiths, and a rather well known one amongst the town's folk too.
From a young age, Aleta had a fascination for swords. Her father would tell her of his travels as a wanderer, which encouraged her to one day leave the village to wander around and see the world for itself. Although he didn't necessarily encourage that she should actually do it, he tried his best not to crush Aleta's dreams completely. Aleta decided that when she was older and more mature that she would pack her things and wander and explore the world.
Unfortunately, by the time she had turned eleven, an unknown yet deadly illness swept the town of Knightmoor, causing the population to drop even lower than it already was. Her mother fell victim to the illness, and, soon enough Aleta's father had also fallen ill. Devastated by the current situation, Aleta tried her best to look after her sick parents, searching the forest for animals to hunt and small berries that could be easily picked. Even after all her efforts, Aleta's parents' conditions were getting worse by the weak.
Three months later, the population of Knightmoor had dropped drastically to a mere half. Not only was Knightmoor losing people, but they were losing money as well. With the low supply of weapons being made, Frel turned to different towns and villages for supplies. Knightmoor was losing money and its reputation fast.
Aleta had been one of the very few people who hadn't been affected by the disease as of yet. With no knowledge of how to forge weapons, Aleta couldn't aid her town at all, only capable of hunting small animals and collecting berries. She felt useless and worthless, and the great depression that covered the town affected her greatly. Her personality began to change from passionate to weak-willed, and Aleta felt like giving up on everything, including her parents. Sadly, during the cold winter months, Aleta's mother and father died, leaving Aleta to be one of the last remaining people in Knightmoor. Cold, hungry and clueless, Aleta gave up on everything, sitting in her house all day whilst her dead parents still lay in bed.
One snowy morning, a week after the death of her parents, Aleta has been searching for food, when she came across a mysterious cloaked figure in the forest. Noticing that Aleta was behind them, the figure turned, frightening Aleta out of her skin. However, much to her surprise, the person, who she presumed was female, simply asked directions to the nearest town. Slightly scared yet somewhat drawn to the woman's mysterious behavior, Aleta led her to the eerie town.
Astonished by Knightmoor's state, the woman asked why the town felt so ghostly and dark. Aleta told the woman everything, and that she was one of the last ones left. She told her that she had no knowledge as to where the other people had gone because of the amount of time she had spent in closed up in her room.
Aleta suggested that they go to hers because of the cold weather, and so, they did. The woman noted that the house smelt unusual and vile, and asked the young Aleta what this odd smell was. Remaining silent, the woman explored the house for a bit, suddenly discovering Aleta's dead parents concealed by bedsheets. Completely shocked and horrified, she rushed back to tell Aleta of her discovery. By the time she had returned however, Aleta was soundly asleep, snoring softly.
By the time Aleta had woken up, it was the early afternoon. Noticing that the woman wasn't around anymore, Aleta searched the house. She then discovered that her parents weren't in their beds anymore, and started to panic as a result. As she walked into her garden, she found the woman with a shovel in her hand, two piles of dirt beside her feet. She said, "I'm sure your parents would prefer to be buried down there rather than under a thousand layers of bedsheets."
Aleta was extremely touched by this. She didn't care how the woman had spoken to her, but was thankful for the deed she had done for her. Aleta thanked the woman, and was even willing to pay for the favour she had done. Kindly rejecting the offer, the woman set to leave the ghost town. However, before she left, she asked Aleta,
"Now, I know we've just met each other, but... don't you think it would be better to travel beside me? None of your town's folk seem to be here anymore... I think it's best that you leave this town behind."
Of course, Aleta accepted the offer.
For the next four years, Aleta travelled with Miria, wandering and exploring the world around her just as she had dreamed of. Although Miria treated Aleta like her own daughter, she also taught her some valuable lessons, informing her that she needed to memorise these important survival skills. Probably the most significant thing that Miria had taught Aleta was the use of a sword in combat, as Miria was a swords(wo)man herself. Through harsh training, Aleta was able to wield a sword with ease in a short time span of four years. On her fifteenth birthday, Miria entrusted Aleta with her own sword that she could use for battle, if it ever came to it.
It was when she became seventeen that things turned for the worst. Before stopping at their next destination, they passed through a forest. Unbeknownst to them, a mysterious man had been following them, hiding in the trees and bushes. As soon as the man tried to kill Miria with a single arrow, Miria drew her sword, managing to dodge the arrow on time. As the man appeared from the bushes, Miria seemed surprised at the man that stood before her, her hands shaking as she stared at him. The man began to mock and verbally abuse Miria, in which Aleta became extremely frustrated at. Charging in with her sword, Aleta attempted to kill the man. She was, however, easily defeated, with one hard kick to the stomach enough to wind her completely. Aleta was in too much pain to hear anything from them, with their voices sounding 'painfully loud yet slurred and sloppy.' Before she could do anything about the situation, the man had fired an arrow to Miria's head, instantly killing her. Saying that he had done what needed to be done, and that he had no need for Aleta, the man tried to leave. Aleta, as stubborn as she was at the time, tried to fight back, only to get beaten up again. Her injuries were so bad that she ended up falling unconscious in the forest.
Once she had woken up, she rushed over to Miria's corpse, looking for any possible sign of life. Knowing that she had an arrow through her head though, Aleta knew that she was really dead. Aleta mourned her mentors death for weeks, travelling by herself through the harsh winter weather. Aleta then made a vow: kill whoever hurt Miria and get revenge for her mentors death.
It was a few months after the death of her mentor when Aleta discovered her powers. Finding herself in a small, yet lievly town, Aleta decided she would stay for the night, as she was extremely tired and sleep-deprived. She searched the town for aa cheap inn to rest at, when she suddenly noticed a familiar cloaked man walking out. Realising who it was, Aleta immediately rushed towards him, but was blocked by a passing carriage, almost being run over by it. By the time she had apologized to the merchant, Miria's murderer had already disappeared. Aleta then walked towards the inn, seeking information of the man that had just passed.
Upon entering, Aleta asked the owner about her mentor's murderer, demanding a name and where he went off to next. The owner seemed hesitant to tell her, so, in a fit of rage, unbuckled her sword and slammed it into the wooden flooring. Frightened, but still unwilling to give a name, the owner explained that the man had strictly told him not to reveal his name to anyone, for a reason he did not know. Angered by the owner's stubbornness, Aleta continued to persist, asking the same question over and over again. So, to get her off his back, he decided to make a bet. If Aleta could win a sword fight against him, then he would tell her the name of the man that had previously stayed in the inn. Accepting the offer, the owner led her into the town square where they were to duel. She also added that if she won, she would get two free nights at the inn. Seemingly confident about his abilities, the owner accepted her offer.
As they prepared themselves at the town square, a crowd started to gather, whispering the owner's name. Aleta managed to hear that Jonathan (the owner) was a renown swordman throughout the town, and was considered their strongest fighter. Before the battle began, Jonathan declared that if he was to win instead of her, she would have to discard all of her belongings, including her sword and boots, and leave the town bare footed. Aleta accepted, of course.
Then, the fight started. The two clashed, their swords hitting against each other. Feeling a sharp pain in her arms, Aleta dropped her sword, having to fight with a barrage of kicks whilst she recovered. Although the man had aged considerably, he was quick, and managed to make a small cut in Aleta's arm. Aleta also fast on her feet, able to dodge Jonathan's attacks swiftly. Once she had recovered, she picked up her sword and slashed at Jonathan, managing to land a cut on his chest. Even though the man was in pain, he managed to continue.
Ten minutes later, Aleta grew tired, her movements becoming slow and sloppy. With a few cuts and bruises, Aleta dropped onto one knee, using her sword to support her weight. Using this opportunity to ultimately kill her, Jonathan swung his sword, attempting to slice her head off. With one last ounce of strength, Aleta managed to block it, quickly lengthening her distance away from him. The two then sped towards each other, with Aleta swinging her sword with all her might. Suddenly, a gust of wind knocked Jonathan back, sending him flying into a wall.
Astonished by this. Aleta looked to the wall and then to her hands, fascinated by what she had just done. The crowd gaped at her in awe, gossip of the person who had defeated Jonathan quickly beginning to spread. Aleta approached the injured man, stretching her arm out to pull him back up. With a frightened expression on the man's face, Aleta smiled, reaching out to him.
"So then... I still get those two free nights at your inn, right?"
Goal(s): As of now, Aleta is set on finding the person who killed her mentor. She strongly believes that she can fulfil this, and, when she does, she'll continue on with life. Until then, Aleta won't (and hasn't) stop(ped) until she finds the culprit. She also dreams of having a small cottage somewhere where she can live peacefully on her own in the future.
Inventory: - Arming Sword
- Dagger (hidden inside her boot)
- Rucksack (used to carry essentials like spare clothes, money and food)
- A journal in which she writes stories about her travels
Gender: Male (Applicable to be Female as well, but changing pronouns will be a chore :P)
Personality: Once upon a time, Adrian used to be a shy boy who used to always be a shy soul who lacked a bunch of social skills and graces often using his shyness as a defense mechanism to protect him. Being seen as a quiet and helpful person with a great streak of creativity within he himself can tap into. Use to be a person who was a hopeless romantic, he always had an eye for particular people who were special from athleticism to simply voice and everything else about them. But after a few years and big events happening, he matured quickly and flipped his image.
Becoming a flirtatious guy who likes to play around with people flirting with them whether they are a guy or girl and no limit. Being the crush in the eyes of a child, or the forbidden fruit to an older woman, and even perhaps something more with a guy? Either way, when he isn't flirting with you, he can be quite the gentleman who opens the doors and makes your day simply perfect which circles back into his flirtatious behavior. Being quite a smooth criminal to sneak in a kittenish remark during a conversation that would make you wonder if he actually heard that or not. Not being quite a stretch to say and know that Adrian is an manipulative person. It would be best to not be lured in by his bait that lures in many victims.
He is a man of uncontrollable chaos, who lives in the moment and thinks about everything else afterwards. Having a tendency to make some people uncomfortable on how close he something gets with them. Whether they think he is joking or not, they won't know until the last second where it would be too late. Being quite a person who knows how to make a person feel good about themselves, whether as a friend or something more, there is no doubt that Adrian is a good person who is willing to lend a shoulder anytime if needed. Being a good friend in general who is often protective and possessive to those that he likes.
Backstory: Adrian came from a wealthy family in Frel with his father being a talented swordsman and his mother being a talented smith, the two of them hit of like a charm. It was a meek life where he was kept indoors and taught lessons by teachers who his mother and father hired to teach him a variety of academic subjects. Excelling in several subjects but lacking any physical excessive, his father had Adrian and him take undertake fencing lessons as a chance for bonding between son and father. Learning quickly under as his father's pupil, Adrian learned how to use a sword at a early age of 12 who he often dueled other of his father's pupil. While with his mother, he learned how to properly take care of his and father's weapons and equipment that he used, learning much on conditioning his gear and how to fix them if needed. The three of them were a perfect little family, with a future for Adrian following his father's footstep and become a swordsman who would take pupils or follow his academic studies and become something more political.
At the age of 15 where all children began to become more rebellious, Adrian began wondering out of the house more often and explored more of the world basically in a nutshell. Exploring all of Frel with his sword and a few of his friends that he knew from his father as they were his pupils like himself. Getting more and more active, his father knew that his son would follow his footsteps as he often saw Adrian sparring with the older boys with equal footing. While not as naturally talented as his father, Adrian's always had an eye for noticing the most skilled of his father's pupils and observed them. Learning from observation, he slowly moved what he observed into his own movement and style, improving himself quickly that he surpassed his friends and the rest of the pupils of his age.
His life was going well, as he was his father's rising pupil and had a generally good upbringing at the age of 17. However, what he was lacking was someone that he liked, more than a friend obvious which was something his parents noticed but didn't press. Little did they know that their boy Adrian didn't have any interests in girls in particular. Being more infatuated with other boys, Adrian kept his feelings to himself as he had a liking to his father's best pupil Edwin.
@Zombehs Concerning Jorak Tenumbra... We already spoke via the interest check and I can see that you added the location for Jorak's hometown on the map, so thanks for that. Nothing new to report about Jorak's CS-- looks good!
@Scrapula Concerning Leon Alabaster... He'll be able to indulge in his love for loincloths much more outside the desert (although I can't guarantee he might get strange looks if he walks around the marketplace in such attire). We already discussed this in the interest check. Thanks for making that edit.
@Undine Concerning Raine Laiken... We already spoke via the interest check. Everything looks good.
@Captain Jenno Concerning Brande Ashbell... Everything looks good except it seems that he's just recently discovered his ability and he's 24. He should have discovered it about 7 years ago. Other than that, you're golden.
@Dynamo Frokane Concerning Vessa Fairwraith... There seems to be a bit of an inconsistency in Vessa's backstory. If Vessas father raped her mother on one of the escape ships from Xavier, that would make Vessa over 50 years old (as nobody has been know to live in Xavier since the war 60 years ago). Perhaps he could have been on a ship escaping from a southern town on the south-eastern side of the mountains that was being pillaged by orcs from the Realm of Spiritus Raptor? Escaping to Inisad? Also, her powers would have awakened shortly after/the day of her 17th birthday as opposed to just before her 18th. Other than that, everything looks fine.
@McHaggis Concerning Elspeth Scout... Everything looks great. The only note I might add-- and this doesn't necessarily merit a change at all-- is that Xaviar is a largely uninhabited town and quite dangerous. If her father was a pirate and wished to venture there via boat, he would need to cross the Crimson Sea to the east. It's possible he could make it through by hugging the coast, but it would still be very dangerous.
@NightFlight Concerning Audra Hesten... We already spoke via the interest check. There's just one more edit I would recommend-- could you add a break somewhere in the first paragraph of her biography so it's a little less of a wall? It just makes it easier to read without getting lost (for me at least).
@Crazy Doctor Concerning Kayla Halogi... We already spoke via PM-- thanks for making the requested changes. You put her town name down as "Jeorvan" when I think you meant to put "Jeorvo". There's also just one more edit I would recommend-- could you add a break somewhere in her biography so it's a little less of a wall? It just makes it easier to read without getting lost (for me at least). Other than that, everything looks good.
@Jay Kalton Concerning Aleta Stormcrest... Character sheet looks good. The only thing that's missing is her discovering her powers when she turned 17, since she's 19 she would have had them for about 2 or 3 years now.
@BubbleGumKing Concerning Adrian Murray... I won't ask you to change the character's gender. I realize it's still a work in progress-- but just to make sure-- I see that you ended on discussing his 17th birthday but there's no mention of his awakening powers. I'm sure you probably have plans to get to it, but I just wanted to make sure it's clear that including that information is a requirement. Also-- just for consistency's sake, can you please use the character sheet skeleton I created? Namely in reference to the Personality/Nature section.
@Scrapula I don't have any changes I would recommend-- it looks fine to me. You're more than welcome to make any changes to it that come to mind before the deadline, though.
@Baklava@Jay Kalton Forgive me for advertising, but the game comes out on Steam in about three days (on the 20th). If you preorder, you get Tales of Symphonia free when it's released on Steam, too. It's a pretty sweet deal in my opinion, but then again I love Symphonia so there may be some bias.
