[OOC] The Elder Scrolls: Fruits of Contention - Chapter 1 (Completed)

It's odd, I can load webpages and post without issue, but do anything that involves streaming data, it slows down to Lenny from Of Mice and Men levels.

As for arrows, I always thought any city worth it's salt should have a shitload of ballistas. Nothing sends quite an elegant "up yours" as getting impaled by a 2 meter long shaft of hardwood and hatred.

Hmm, they probably don't want you to torrent the entire Library of Congress on their broadband.

I imagine they do, but I also imagine Skyrim's siege weapons are underdeveloped (at least compared to Cyrodiil), for several reasons:

-Skyrim has less walled cities than Cyrodiil
-The old mentality of "shouting down walls" put catapults on the backburner of Nordic generals
-Skyrim used to rely on the legion for defence, so local "military industry" might be dependent on Imperial City aid
-Mountainous terrains, narrow roadways and heavy snowfall during winter make transporting these things very difficult

That, and the technology of crossbows, much less ballistae have been lost to the mists of time. Look at what happened to the Dwemer. Tsk tsk.

And Gcold has the right of it. Just that most of Skyrim's fortifications are simple, like iron-age hillforts with stone walls and wooden palisades. Most of Nordic warfare could be handled with infantry, things like fast and bloody raids. Any walls could've been shouted down, or ladders could scale walls and rams could bust in gates.

Not to mention, Nordic culture and society is borderline anti-intellectual. Power comes from a sword, the two biggest punishments for crime are judicial duels or the chopping block.

I mean the reasons why they aren't shooting ballistas at people are well and good, but c'mon. The walls should look like Attack on Titan because I am a man of simple tastes, and that taste is an evolved form of launching pencils from elastics at my classmates in public school.

I have Crohns disease and it decided that after taking a few years off of making my life a living hell it wanted to put me back in hospital. Basically, my guts have a crazy amount of infection going on and abscesses out the wazoo that's led to complications that will mean me going in for surgery in 2-3 months to have parts of my intestine removed before it spreads and destroys the healthy tissues. I feel pretty good right now, so the treatments seem to be holding (I'm even typing this not hooked up to an IV! How magical is that?), and I hope to be discharged over the next few days. I miss my dog, I gotta say.

But yeah, long story short, guts started hurting a lot, I lost 30 pounds in 2 months, I couldn't really eat, and work was murdering me with a shift that effectively made me work 60 out of 70 days. It decidedly sucked.
