There's also the fact that training somebody to be an archer takes waaaay longer than teaching them to stand in a line and fire a musket. Plus bayonets = bad time for horsies.

The outdated army trait seems to refer to more outdated gunpowder weapons, like wheel locks and such. To be all 'lolmyoutdatedarmypwnsyermodernone' kinda destroys the entire point of it existing.

The other thing to remember about muskets over medieval weaponry is the fear factor, a massed volley of musket fire backed up with extensive cannon bombardment would break the majority of armies, especially those of lesser-developed nations that hadn't experienced it before en masse.

Of course I wont attack them with cavalry when their still organized. I'll use the cavalry charge when they're at the breaking point, when they're just about ready to rout. The shock factor of a group of horse riders carrying blades about to slice your necks while the foot soldiers are just about to finish you off would force you to run. Not even the Czar of Valm could stop his men retreating from such a sight.

Yeah, I've have to give them ten inches of steel armor and horses made out of pure iron if I'm going to do that. Is that possible by the way? Because Terhideron wouldn't stand a change against knights in medieval power armor.

Hey we've had some experience of firearms! It wont be as terrible as real life first encounters.

Edit: No No No No No the new world has germs of its own that will kill your settlers too in this case.
