Darkness and Light

Every soul harbours both darkness and light. This is a belief common amongst our lands - how little they knew. For there are creatures who have no light inside of them, beings of pure evil simply disguised very well. We thought we could live in peace with each other, human and non-human alike.

And for a time, we did. Until the day the rebellion arose against the Crown, a Dark Lord raising an army out of those with more evil inside than good. War, chaos, secrecy and lies... this is our world now.

So who shall you fight for? Shall you raise a noble banner and stand alongside your rightful King? Shall you join the uprising and pursue your own desires? Or is there another agenda on your mind?

Based loosely on the original RP by the fabulous @ViolentViolet, this RP is set in a fantasy realm that I hope to bring to life with the help of you, the players. I do have a CS skeleton, which you can feel free to make up however you like. I'm looking for players who will help develop the world and make it more intricate and immersive than we could possibly imagine.

The Kingsguard

The Kingsguard has not always existed, but there was a time when kings were in much greater danger than they are now and a band of knights was brought together under the name Kingsguard and trusted with the royal family's safety.

When a knight of the Kingsguard takes his vows they oath to their gods:

• They will hold no lands
• They will father no children
• They will hold no titles
• They will serve no one but their King and his legitimate blood family
• They will give their lives to protect the royal family if the time arises
• They will remain in service until the day they die
• They will obey their King without question amid execute his wishes

The Kingsguard is traditionally warriors raised by proud families, or a well established knight.

I think I shall make a high ranking minion for the dark lord. Maybe some sort of dark necromancer. A member of the Inner Circle since every dark lord need a Saruman. Or maybe the youngest Prince who might feel the need to do anything to save his family from ___________ ((EVIL NAME HERE)).

A couple of things for the record.

First and most importantly what is this RP's pace going to be like? I cannot post more than twice a week given my studies and internships (working on a GIANT DOOMLASER I mean 1 meter wide telescope. Totally a telescope).

Second I don't want to take too long on getting a CS out and right now all that's left is a spell list. How detailed should I get?

Horned Staff: Exactly as it says on the tin it is a staff with horns on it. Serves as a focal point for his more powerful and esoteric spells.
Magic Armor: Intimidating set of full plate armour enchanted to boost speed, strength, and especially protection.

Abilities/Powers:
Ambassador of the Abyss: Ahzek has an air about him that electrifies anyone nearby. This increases the potency of any supernatural powers near him (range 20 meters). The aura can be extended selectively by vocal component (so certain chants will empower those of his choosing as long as they can hear him).
Evil Archmage: An elementalist without a recognised peer (by himself that is) Azhek can freely twist fire and lightning to his command. His laughter is enough to call down lightning from the heavens themselves. He has also dabbled in most other forms of magic bar those that explicitly require one to wield the light.
Glowing Eyes: Ostensibly these grant Ahzek the ability to see even in the deepest darkness. That they add to his magnificent countenance is a nice bonus.

Talent(s): Logistics are part and parcel of any Evil Overlordship. Fortunately Azhek is decent at this and can manage an army easily. He is a magnificent liar (borderline supernatural).

Personality: Theatrical, bombastic and power hungry. In battle he prefers to lead the troops in person, throwing down hellfire from the heavens and cackling like the power-mad wizard he very much is.

Biography: It started oh so simply in a sleepy little hollow that bore no real name. The start of darkness was oh so very humble in origins, a small minded lordson who in a feud for a maidens hand cast his opposite down a disused well. For three days, starving in the damp darkness, the lad clawed at the slimy walls for a way out. Then, on the fourth night, as the moon was eclipsed and an unnatural darkness fell across the land, the stone wall of the well gave way and he fell into an abyss.

Four years after the eclipse, the village vanished. Official investigation concluded that the villagers had huddled together in the central building in the face of a mighty storm, and then lightning struck the building, burning everyone inside to ash. At some undetermined point in the future new colonists were to be sent for reconstruction but beyond written promises no concerted effort ever materialised, as the memory of that nameless inham slowly dwindled away into nothingness, like an ember in the wind.

That is not to say the ruins remained utterly desolate since.

Dark creatures of all stripes soon felt drawn to the remnants of the hollow as all manner of fetid flora and fauna reclaimed the land around it. From brigands to bloodhounds to bounty hunters, a new town rose on the old, spoken of in hushed whispers as an outhaven for all those with darkness in their hearts. Whispers that soon turned to outcry as the master of the new town announced himself and his intentions. Lord Azhek Ahriman, he who desires to rule them all.

Biography: Kalar Splint's tale is known from the bowels of Redoak Forest to the Iron Coast; his explots an exercise in shadow and death.

He leads the famed Rangers of Galuntrung Keep, a paramilitary force in service to the Kingdom but self-funded and autonomous. No one is exactly sure how many of these rangers exist, but it is said that once you've seen one, you've missed a hundred, and it's far too late to escape their intended plans for you.

Kalar founded the rangers twenty years ago, after his wife and two daughters were murdered at the roadside by a group of raiding bandits. Heart broken, Kalar lost himself to insanity and bloodlust, spending three whole years tracking down those who wronged him. That story came to a close in some open glade amidst Shadowsong's Rest, and many bad men met their end against a warrior that switched from shadow to shadow as if by magic.

Since then, he has quested after bands of criminals, slaying them one by one and gaining much fame amongst the local populace. Scores joined him, inspired by his heroics, and eventually he commanded a sizable force of forest fighters that knew few equals.

Today, Kalar is dedicated to keeping the roads safe from the intrusions of wars, and does his best to ensure the safety of the Kingdom's outlying villages. From the safety of his forested enclave of Galuntrung Keep, he ambushes and routs any force stupid enough to carelessly wander through his sphere of activity.

However, it is but a matter of time before he, like many like him, is called to fight a larger battle the likes not seen in generations.

Well, maybe both of you are vying for the official position of Commander, and neither of you has been assigned the position.

There was a plan for there to only be Seven Kingsguard and Seven in the Inner Circle, but I didn't want to make it an arbitrary headcount. If needs be, I could assign roles like "First of the Seven", "Second of the Seven" and so on and so forth.

Well, the history of the land will be determined by the different backstories of the characters. There wasn't really a strict world to adhere to, but I can create one if you that would help you.

One part egomania, he sincerely and deeply believes the world is a better place under his heel. One part dark side overpowering his morals. One part anger at the corruption he's been exposed to. Even though it was only small time corruption in the grand scheme of things he now believes all nobles are like the bastard that threw him down the well.

He also desires to conquer the moon at some point.
