It's an impossible thing. Try all you want, nothing is going to be objective. That's just how things work even down at the fundamental levels of language.

One thing I absolutely hate is rap music, especially the slow kind. Its literally all just about drugs and fucking a hoe on some really dull, annoying beat if you can even call it that. Add bad autotuning and some stupid ass moans and groans and some how you have something that people enjoy and chant in the halls. In my ears, its so musically incompetent and idiotic that it makes Justin Bieber sound good.

I would go on, but I feel like its not even worth wasting energy and time on writing out a complete rant.

@ClocktowerEchos ... There's plenty of rap which doesn't revolve around what you think it does. You should really listen to some rap that's actually decent and I bet it'll blow your mind and you'll listen to pretty much just rap for a while.

I'll help you get started, Verb T - Morning Process.

I dislike when people claim ALL of any particular genre is bad, kind of just speaks for the small minded.

This.

I like a lot of things, and if I had to say there is a music I think is consistently better than most things I'd say it's blues, but there is definitely plenty of rap that has something to it.

I also have to say rap is the best music to do physical work to. I've done a couple of warehouse jobs. The first played country, and I spent the entire night feeling like I'd really fucked up my life. The second played rap, and I felt like I was kicking ass despite the shitty job.

@SmileyJaws@VilageidiotxI know there's some good songs out there, but I guess that the bad rap has engrained itself into me that I dislike it in general. Sort of like how some people won't eat certain things they thought taste bad when they were a kid.

That said, I did actually find a bit of rap in one of the j-pop songs I tend to listen to (I know, I'm a fking weeb, its what I listen to most days); gotta say that's my favorite bit in the whole song

The reason why I listen to j-pop for both work and study is that it has an upbeat enough tone to keep me somewhat energized but also since its in a language I don't really understand, I can focus on whatever I'm doing and let le musica flow through me bruh (jesus christ I never thought I'd say that). Then there's also the fact I personally find j-pop to be catchiest so there's that

Also, listen to that song, not bad but I still don't really think its my jam :p

Don't get me wrong, I completely understand where you're coming from. It was just the generalization that got me! Got to say I like some J-Pop but was always more of a J-Rock fan, I have a deep seeded love for "The Gazette" myself.

From what I've heard of it, I'm not a fan. One or two songs were alright but imo it's a load of crap mostly.

Edit: However in saying that, I haven't actually listened to a lot of variation in the genre so it could just be I chose a bad artist.

@SmileyJaws On the whole I prefer K-Rap if we're going that route but there's some legit good J-Rap to be had. Not nearly as well known as the whole J-Pop and anime insert songs that are crazy big, though

I could never get into the J-Pop or K-pop stuff. It's too... bubbly for me, I guess? That's the best word I can think of.

Something I'm actually interesting in discussing...huzzah. (though it's funny. I'm certain I tried bringing the same topic up but it went nowhere...But I'll take it.)

That's not even fair, Who doesn't like one punch man theme song? :P

Though I do prefer J-Rock because I think it can often be more interesting than rock from elsewhere. The only real J-Pop I listened to that I liked was Momoiro Clover Z. Because a few of their songs use metal riffs in their pop songs. Or their weird enough that I find them appealing. :P (And honestly the only K-Pop I've even ever heard was listening to nightcore'd versions with I liked more the original, because I have terrible taste in music. so maybe I need to expand my look into more music.

fansoop.com/2013/11/pv-momoiro-clover-.. (Since it's apparently no longer on youtube! >.<)

Charisma.com

Speaking of weird. Thank you for this...

My only J-Rap I've ever listening to, and finding myself personally liking was This. And now, I have something else. :3

I think the language barrier is stopping me from appreciating most J-Rap which is odd, but I think rap is more focused on lyrics and flow. And I tend to appreciate rap for it's good lyrics or an impressive flow. Usually listening to Alt-Rap, and I've found no J-Alt Rap personally, though I haven't really looked. >.> I would literally start hopping for enjoy if you could find a J-Rap equivalent to this or this.

But if I bitch about something, related to Rap music and in general.

Fuck my random migraines and burning my hands the very same day.

Is how rap artists create their albums, drive me nuts. Here's how it works as a broad generalization. Rock albums with have 10-12 songs on them. 2-3 of those said songs will be filler to bulk up the album, usually smart artists won't put them one after another. I swear some people but the worst songs first or last. And that itself is a rant for another day.

But rap albums, tend to have 14-20 songs on them. But ALL additional songs are filler. Now, the point for this is to throw everything at you at once, so something sticks. But it makes albums as a whole much weaker as a result, if it's not just stupid as hell sketches. (and god I hate those.) I listened recently to a rap album that had 14 songs on them, was liking how cohesive in theme it was, then bam! waited until the very end two of the worst songs. Right beside each other. Killing it. >.< Basically, rap albums need better editors, less IS more most of the time. :/

Kanye hears ya. Kanye don't care.

(Although I have talked about my Kanye conspiracy theories for like, hours on end. TL;DR he's not a bad dude.)

They're reviewing, bud. It's kind of LITERALLY THEIR ENTIRE FREAKIN' JOB to give you their opinions. Because someone has opinions you don't agree with, or because one guy may or may not have been influenced by a blowie and some butthurt ex made 4chan act like 4chan again (Much to everyone's surprise) doesn't mean that the entire thing is nothing but trash just because one particular type of journalist isn't doing the opposite of what they're supposed to do.

While I agree that flow and lyrics are an integral part of rap music in any language, not being a speaker of Japanese just means that I listen more to the beats of any given J-Rap song. Reading translated J-Rap lyrics (or really any J-pop song) would just be weird because reading out the translations in English wouldn't help a non speaker understand the flow or rhymes or anything of the sort.

That said, Dekishi has great flow and frequently collabs.

There's also artists like Dabo, DJ Ken Kaneko, SALU, SKY-HI and COLEMAN OUTDOOR RESORT MOVIE.

Even if you're not a fan of lyrics there are artists in the J-Rap world that still put out some great beats that sound good no matter if you understand it or not!

Speaking of weird. Thank you for this...

Well if it's weird you're after might I also suggest Wednesday Campanella or even DOTAMA

Also I really like Charisma.com because Gonchi and Itsuka are just office ladies with things to say about Japan. They're also kinda weird awesome and embrace the low effort production value. For example their most recent music video? It's just them walking around Japan with a selfie stick and an iPad playing the song so they can know their cues. But what makes it even weirder is that they have Not one, not two, but three different versions of the same concept. And then just because they're like that, they also put up a fourth version

Charisma.com is great

Also I know it's about J-Rap but dammit I'm using this chance to plug the hell out of K-Rap artist Cheetah.

Cheetah is damn amazing. Just the best and everyone knows it. Even on guest track she kills it. She can sing too because she's perfect in every way. She is the queen. She is your mother. Bow down.
