Allow me to mercilessly bombard you all with my thoughts :D
We need to consolidate and progress.
Or in other terms,
We must gather our party before venturing forth.
And by that I mean, we need to know exactly who is readily available and then we can build on that. If we're missing most of the royal family permanently, mayhap we need to slip in some kind of reason why - perhaps an assassination attempt, that either succeded or forced the King/Queen to send their offspring away somewhere safe.
That then leaves the surviving/remaining royal family free to interact.
So then we fast forward the plot, Gormagh has been sent to bring news of recent events - perhaps by now, Galuntrung Keep is actively fighting against a fully fledged invasion of black hearted scoundrels - and he + the King/Queen debate the next course. I've also a lieutenant of Galuntrung already written up, perhaps he could be there instead, leaving Liara to handle the keep's operations. In any event, word reaches the crown of the troubles, the crown formulates a response, and we're away again.
Meanwhile Liara can be busying herself with the defense of Galuntrung and/or raiding enemy positions. I could throw Gormagh her way to provide her some interaction.
Then hopefully the two ends will eventually tie in quite nicely, preferably with the arrival of a whole army of the King's men.
After that, who knows?
This is all just my two pennies by the way, I'm not trying to hijack anything.
EDIT: Any remaining dark characters can be involving themselves in the kingdom's torment, either harassing Galuntrung keep/attacking it or busying themselves with murder elsewhere. All good characters outside of the whole war scene could be doing their own thing, too. I've not really got much in mind as far as they're concerned, but as they're free from any chains, the possibilities are more or less endless.
