The SS Tidal docked in Littleroot Town approximately twenty-five hours after it left port in Vermillion City. Liam and Shiranui stepped off the boat. A Chancey with a Nurse's hat was there holding up a sign with their names.

"Looks like your relatives from Hoenn got word of our arrival," stated Shiranui, pointing out the Chansey.

Lance had been sleeping most of the trip. When he heard the S.S Aqua docked in little root he woke up and wiped the drool from his chin, he lets out a yawn then realizes what was gonna happen that day. "Its time to begin my journey" He says says with a wide grin, he then dashes off the boat with speed.

The Chancey led the heroes to Birch's lab and then went back to the Pokémon Center. One of the Aides informed them that he was doing fieldwork just outside of town.

Shiranui nodded and he made his way to the northern exit.

When the heroes reached the edge of town, they heard a man call out for help. The man, who was wearing a white lab coat was being chased by three Poochyena. He tripped and fell. The Poochyena began to close in on him. he called out that his bag over there had some Pokéballs in it and to use them to save him. By the time the man finished his sentence, Liam was already calling out one of his own Pokémon, Goodra.
"Scare them off with Dragonbeath!" Liam called. Goodra fired the attack, purposely missing the Poochyena, scaring them off. The man came over to thank Liam. He then realized who they were and returned to his lab with them.

Professor Birch took the duo to his lab and asked what Pokémon they wanted. Liam asked for a Mudkip.

"I'll take Torchic please," Shiranui added.

Birch handed over the Pokémon in question. Liam called Oak and sent some Pokémon back to Oak's lab for storage.

Shiranui did the same, keeping two friends he caught in Kalos. He wanted his Torchic to have company in his party.

"I am kind of surprised we haven't seen any newbie trainers come yet." Liam commented.

[James Davy]

"It could be possible we were simply early," Shiranui speculated.

"Yeah, it's possible." Liam replied. Liam sent out the Mudkip.

"Mudkip, the Mudfish Pokémon. The fin on Mudkip's head acts as highly sensitive radar. Using this fin to sense movements of water and air, this Pokémon can determine what is taking place around it without using its eyes. In water, Mudkip breathes using the gills on its cheeks. If it is faced with a tight situation in battle, this Pokémon will unleash its amazing power-it can crush rocks bigger than itself."

"Niwatori, come on out!" Shiranui opened the Poké Ball he was given and unbeknownst to him, the Great Ball on his belt opened as well. Two Torchic were revealed, one of which was Zoro in Illusion.
"Torchic, the Chick Pokémon. Torchic has a place inside its body where it keeps its flame. Give it a hug—it will be glowing with warmth. This Pokémon is covered all over by a fluffy coat of down." Shiranui picked one of the Torchic up and it didn't have the glowing warmth that had been mentioned. "Zoro, return!" Deducing it was his Zorua in disguise, Shiranui recalled the giggling illusionist and picked up the real Torchic, this time feeling its warmth. "That was Zoro, one of your new teammates," he said to Niwatori, showing the Torchic the Zorua entry on his Pokédex, "He like to play these sort of tricks." Niwatori was starting to like his new trainer after seeing what Zoro was capable of.

Birch told them that the closest gym was two towns away in Petalburg, but he recommended going to Rustborro first and return to Petalburg once they had four badges from the region.

"It'll give us plenty of time to bond with and train our new friends," stated Shiranui.

"That's true." Liam replied. "There are also some Pokémon to catch along the way."

[James Davy]

"I plan to catch a Shroomish when we get to the Petalburg Woods," stated Shiranui.

"That would make a nice addition." Liam commented.

[James Davy]

"Not just that, Shroomish will come in handy if we have to sneak around thanks to their ability to use Spore," added Shiranui.
