Jo's magic isn't anything too spectacular. She is able to conjure up bird spirits made out of water and use them offensively. They appear to be regular kingfisher birds, although, being made of water gives them a vaguely transparent look. These birds act on Jo's commands, usually by voice.
Strengths: As said before, these birds are always used as an offensive tactic. Once Jo tells them to attack the enemy, the birds fly at great speeds and peck at the opponent. Sometimes, the birds will fly into the enemy's face and explode, splashing them with water as a distraction.
Weaknesses:This magic has a large amount of flaws, although not completely useless. Firstly, these kingfishers are very fragile, and, depending on the user's amount of mana, can be dispersed with a single physical attack. However, they are able to slightly make up for this due to their speed.
Secondly, using them as a defensive barrier is literally impossible. These birds are only able to be used as a way of physical attack and physical attack only.

Pesonality: Despite her young age, Jocelyn is a mature and sensible young girl. Of course, coming from a wealthy background, Jo is very polite towards everyone, especially those above her. She's also quite reserved, unless she is really pushed to the limits and ends up breaking down instead.
The girl may come off as a bit cold and distant at first, but in reality, Jo's just a quiet person. It's not that she doesn't mind interacting with others (in fact, she doesn't mind at all), she often only speaks when spoken to. Her much more mature outlook on life might also be a reason as to why people (mainly those roughly the same age as her) describe her as 'cold'. However, her sensible demeanour doesn't mean she can't have a bit of fun once in a while.
Once you get to know little Jo, you're in for a very stable friendship. She cares a lot for her friends and even more for her family and familiars, and, despite knowing that she's not the strongest of mages, she is still willing to jump in and fight for the people she loves.
Backstory: A classified noblewoman such as Jocelyn had a calm and peaceful childhood. She would read books, play in the large gardens, practise her magic, the usual kiddy mage stuff.
Although she was the daughter of a wealthy English family, her personality didn't seem to support that (unless you're thinking of your clichéd rich snob, then yes). She acted sensible and polite towards everyone regardless of their social status, and tried to not be so ignorant all the time. She was a lovely and mature girl, despite her rather young age.
As a Blackwell, Jocelyn was to be contracted with the family's various familiars at a young age. The only real reason why the Blackwell family gained that little bit of recognition was because of their fighting style; summoning many familiars to make up for their lack of offensive capabilities. By the time she had turned eight, Jo had made contracts with eight different familiars, each of them with unique fighting abilities of their own.
After that, life went on as per usual. Following the family tradition, Jocelyn was to be enrolled at the prestigious Liseranna Academy to discover and unlock her true potential as a Blackwell mage.
