It was finally time, the Battle Royale had just began (all Song Knights had been taken to the Colosseum), the battles would be held in a deathmatch style, each participant being eliminated from the tournament as soon as they lost a match.
To lessen the risk of serious injuries -or worse- happening during the tournament, each duo of Song Knight and Spirit would have a shield spell of identical power cast over them, said shield would get damage as they were hit, once the shield broke a combatant would be declared loser. Furthermore, the fights have a 90 seconds (3 posts for each side) timer, to avoid long, dragged out matches, whoever does the most damage during this time wins.
Also, to protect the public, the whole arena floor is circled by a barrier, though it's very tough it's no unbreakable, thereby attacks intentionally targeting the area where the public is seated are forbidden, doing so will not only disqualify a participant as well as set them under an immediate Restraining Order.
All matches of a given round are held at the same time in one of the separate rings of the arena floor. The Match Pairings, decided randomly, would be the following:
#01: Claudia Blair vs Ueno Lauden #02: Farrah Gilden vs Moros Vorsickle #03: Cass Mormont vs Victor Strom #04: Tylor Sinclair vs Aura Kalstov #05: Mary Stradford vs Isabelle Kaiser #06: Josiah Everett vs Randar Xenil #07: Zachary Arc vs *** #08: *** vs ***
Participants who don't show on the battle arena within prior 15 minutes (01 week from this post) their match time will be considered losers by default.
With the rules of the battle announced, it was up for the Song Knights and their Spirits to show their shining melodies for the eager public.
"A heartbeat that lasts for an endless time, human lives consumed in soundless fireballs. No one notices when the world is displaced and the flames of the Crimson World burn down everything..."
-Intro-
What if, one day, you were told that you are already dead? Just an empty cask, a flickering flame that sooner or later is going to be snuffed and, once it's, no one will ever remember that you existed? No family, no friends, even your most beloved ones will ever notice you were gone. The very world will adapt to your cessation of existence, bank accounts will be gone, your room or house will be clean of any personal belongings you ever had, photos will have your presence erased from them, so on, so forth...
The reason for this is simple, you are one of the many individuals known as Torches, mere reflections of an existence long since gone, a human being whose Power of Existence, the thing that makes you be, was devoured by a Crimson Lord and you didn't even noticed, nor did anyone else. Torches exist because the reality can't handle a subtle change like a whole existence simply disappearing out of the blue. It would cause damage to the world much like when the air trying to fill the vacuum left by an explosive detonation causes even more damage to all that was left behind.
Then you ask, what is a Crimson Lord and how did it stole your life without anyone noticing? Well, Crimson Lords are the rulers of the Crimson World, a parallel reality to our own whose beings live on Power of Existence and regularly come to our world to feed on the defenseless human beings whose great numbers turn them into an abundant source of nourishment for the Denizens of the Crimson World. To go unnoticed, trying to avoid the eyes of their natural enemies, the Flame Haze, the Crimson Denizens and their Lords set up Seals that dislodge a part of the Human World to a state where it's neither in one or the other world, a timeless void where (in the time you would take to blink an eye) they can feast on people's Power of Existence and, once they are gone all that's left behind are empty casks that would pop out of existence as soon as the Seal is undone, causing untold disasters.
To prevent this, preserving the natural balance of the world by creating Torches out of the remnants of Power of Existence left behind by the Denizens' "meals", and hunt down the rogue Crimson Denizens, the Flame Haze exist. All Flame Haze were humans one day, but for a reason or another they forged a contract with one of the powerful Crimson Lords that swore to uphold the balance of the world, after their ancestors’ foolishness almost caused the destruction of both worlds. Once the contract is formed, a human being ceases to age and will become much stronger and more resilient than their former selves, by learning how to tap on both theirs and their Crimson Lords' powers, while the Crimson Lord gets a steady flow of Power of Existence without the need to hunt down humans. It's a two-way deal, where both parts benefits, thereby it's no surprise that both the Flame Haze and their Crimson Lords are extremely protective of one another.
This shadow war between Flame Haze and the Crimson Denizens has been going for millennia and now that you know about all this, it's your chance to make a difference, to promote change (for good or ill), to bring the battle back to the faces of the Crimson Lords and... maybe end this conflict once and for all.
The time has come. Light your fire and be ready to fight!
-Story-
Welcome to this RP based on a series that holds a spot on the heart of many anime and light novel fans, Shakugan no Shana, the tale of eternal battle between the Flame Haze, and the Denizens of the Crimson World.
First of all, I would like to thank you all who took the time to read all of this, whether you consider joining this RP or not, I’m already glad. Now, let’s talk about the important bits, what exactly this RP entails? Well, the immediate answer is the same as that on any RP, that is, whatever kind of story both you and I are willing to weave together. To be more specific, this story will take place in an alternate universe to the canon series where we will have more liberty at what to do, instead of simply tailing the novels/anime plot.
While most canon characters and events will retain their characteristics that we all know and like, some changes may occur that will differentiate this AU from the base story; the possibility of crossing over with some of the canon cast exists and will happen for sure if the RP lasts long enough, but on the beginning, our story will be our own.
-Characters-
For this RP, our characters will be part of a group of Flame Haze sent to take down a powerful Crimson Lord, hidden somewhere on Boston, that is gathering an awful lot of Power of Existence without a known purpose and has been attracting the attention of the Flame Haze leadership for months even dealing with a couple of previous attempts of taking it down. The mission is simple, find Crimson Lord and stop it, no matter the cost.
You can also choose to play as a Torch, though this is unadvisable because of the ultimate fate that awaits every Torch, or even as a normal human, which is even less recommended thanks to the fact that humans are completely helpless against even the most basic Rinne; if they get in a situation where their destruction is unavoidable, so be it, I’ll not spare anyone do seek death with their own hands. As such these types of characters are better left as NPCs, or at most as sidekicks to a Flame Haze main character, just be reasonable, if you wish to go this way.
Players will also control their Flame Hazes’ Crimson Lords whether they are the silent type or true chatterboxes it’s up to you.
-Rules-
• No Godmoding, Mary Sues, Drama Queens and such.
• No OOC fighting.
• Post your Character Sheets on the OOC, for evaluation.
• Be reasonable when fighting IC (no auto hitting/ infinite dodging, no killing/ harming someone else's character without their permission and all that).
• Be cordial. Respect other people and you will be treated equally, not and we will have to ask you to leave, kindly.
• Please respect all of the GMs. We should be the final arbiters of any dispute.
• Follow the Guild's rules for content/language. Take any improper material to PMs, please.
• Keep your IC posts at a minimum length of one paragraph and please try to write as well as you can. We know that English is not everyone's main language, but that's no excuse to being negligent.
• Although there is no strict posting order, please do not spam posts. Wait at least until two people have gone before you before posting again.
• If you're going to leave for an extended period of time, or drop the RP, please let us know. We might be become a little sad because of it but we will respect your choice, but leaving without prior notice causes unneeded distress for all the other players.
• Everyone will be allowed a maximum of one character. This number can be expanded later, depending on the story's needs.
• And finally... Have fun! Because that's what we are here for, right?

Abilities are Avatar unique skills you can perform that fit your Class. Warriors typically gain abilities that allow them to do more damage or survive attacks, while Rogues would gain something that allows them to sneak past their enemies or make use of something they cannot. Though they can be unique in other ways as well, such as the ability of flight or some such. Whatever your abilities are they are largely determined by who you are. Feats on the other hand are more specialized, but flexible in the fact that you can chose which one you’d like to use. Feats are tailored to fulfil different Archetypes for each class, but by no means defines what your Archetype would be if you chose them. That all depends on how you use them really.
Avatar Abilities differ from Feats in that they will remain consistent throughout your levels. While you can always lower your level to trade different feats, Avatar Abilities will always remain the same so long as you reach the level requirement. Avatar Abilities are also unique in that they are specialized for the character. They give your Avatar something unique about them that rarely any other character would have. These Avatar Abilities are linked towards your Class; however higher level Abilities can sometimes dip into other classes so long as they fit the flavor of your character. Every Avatar has 6 Abilities, but they will only obtain all of them at level 9.
These Avatar Abilities must also be reviewed and approved of by the GM before you actually use them.
Combat Rounds and Abilities Cooldown
Time, spent inside of combat (each post you do while fighting), on DGO is measured in units known as Rounds, which are in turn divided in sub-units known as Actions and Reactions. A Round is equivalent to one minute, while an Action is worthy 30 seconds, a Reaction doesn't take anytime to do, but can be made only once per Round, generally in response to a trigger that is determined by the type of ability you are using or action you are doing (e.g.: trying to attack someone that lowers their guard, ducking out of an attack line of effect, casting a shield spell, etc.).
Using an Action, a player can either move, attack (the number of attacks you can do on a single action depends on your attack speed, weapons, etc.) or activate an Ability or Feat, in any combination they see fit as long as it doesn't violate the 02 Actions per Round limit and every action can be accomplished in more or less 30 seconds. A special case lies with Minions (Controlled undead, demons, beasts, drones, etc.) since they only have 01 Action of their own per Round, the masters of such creatures must spend their own actions to have their Minions perform a second one. As a rule of thumb, Minions can't use Reactions, even under command, unless they have an ability that allows for such (e.g.: shields, intercepts, etc.).
The Cooldown of Abilities and Feats begins to count as soon as they are activated and works in a set way, based on a Round and its divisions. You must choose a Cooldown timer for your Abilities based on the following ones:
* N/A: This effect has no Cooldown, meaning that it can be used on every Action a player takes during combat. Passive effects have this Cooldown timer by default.
* One Action: This effect has a Cooldown of 01 Action, it can be used once every Round, independent of when you activate it.
* XX Rounds: This effect has a Cooldown of XX Rounds, you must wait a number of Rounds equal to the Cooldown number before using it again.
* XX Time Increments: This effect has a Cooldown of XX Time Increments, you must wait a number of Time Increments equal to the Cooldown number before using it again.
Lastly, remember that all these are guidelines on how to proceed through combat, even if you’re collabing during a fight, you should keep this in mind.
Time Increments
Time, spent outside of combat (that is, most non-combat posts), on DGO is measured in units known as Time Increments which are equivalent to 10 minutes for Open World maps and 05 minutes for Dungeons, this difference is because of the fact that inside of Dungeons the constant tension and adrenaline on your system, causes things to seem to move at a faster pace.
The biggest use for time increments is to measure the rate of regeneration for a players' resources, but other effects might depend on them as well. For every time increment that passes a player recovers 10% of their full Health and Mana (that is, 01% regen per minute), unless an ability or other things like being in a Sanctuary, where regen rates are 10 times faster (meaning, full regen in one Time Increment).
Lastly, if a player spends a Time Increment doing nothing but rest, generally sitting or lying down in a place, they can double the regen rates for that Time Increment.
Random Encounters
Dissolutions and Outlaws don't simply sit around in one place and wait for other players to come and turn them into a nice little pile of EXP. They prowl the land in search of squishy prey to chew and hack into bits, that's why caution at all times is highly advisable for the adventurous soul.
Mechanically speaking, for every Time Increment a player stays outside of Safe Zones, while logged on Deep Ground, they have a 1 in 6 chance of running on/being ambushed by Dissolutions or Outlaws. Generally speaking, this ensures that around once every hour you'll run into trouble, unless the system is being a bastard and pitting you against foes after foes with little to no time to breath between the fights.
The Level of the foes you face varies randomly between two bellow and two above the Challenge Level of the area you are in, which is pre-determined by the System. The number of foes you face are generally between 1 and 6, but this can change according the foes levels. The conditions of the encounter (who's ambushed and who isn't, distance, positioning, etc.) are based on circumstances like your skills, your foes' skills and terrain layout, all of which can change from encounter to encounter.
Lastly, you can decide to ignore Random Encounters if you use any means of fast travel, like a travel by mount or vehicle, or if you have specific skills that allow for that.
Rewards
The total EXP rewards from a defeated foe are based on both the foe's level and your own as explained by the NC System. The bases EXP reward per Level of the enemy is given below:
Level 01: 50 EXP.
Level 02: 100 EXP.
Level 03: 200 EXP.
Level 04: 400 EXP.
Level 05: 1000 EXP.
Level 06: 2500 EXP.
Level 07: 3750 EXP.
Level 08: 5000 EXP.
Level 09: 10000 EXP.
Upon your discretion you can choose to convert part, or even all, of the base EXP reward from an encounter into items or materials worth that much raw EXP, mins that any items broken down or sold for EXP are usually worth only half of their raw EXP value, with no modifiers to that amount, independent of your level. The raw EXP for broken/sold items is given bellow:
Poor/Materials: None, these items can be used to craft others, but are worth nothing in and off themselves. Their EXP value can be fully converted on items of higher quality as long as you know the proper crafting recipes.
Common/Rare: Half their base EXP value. Can be acquired normally by the method described above.
Epic: Full base EXP value. These items can only be acquired with GM permission.
Unique: Can't be broken. These items can only be acquired with GM permission.
Finally, a player can't equip/use any single item whose base EXP value is higher than the double of the current amount of EXP they currently have. Also, to keep things easy for all of us to keep track of your progress, include on the TOP of your posts in a visible way any EXP or item rewards your characters may have acquired on that same post.
Item Binding
Because of the effort one has to put in acquiring items of Epic and Unique quality, they are rewarded with a special feature that exists to prevent item theft. These items are bound to the first player who equips them and can’t be used by anyone else, regardless of class proficiency or any other factor (though there may be some avatar ability out there that allows it).
There are two ways of breaking an item binding. First, one can purchase an Ownership Certificate, that allows for a binding to be overruled, to prevent abuse, these items can only be acquired from a Colored King (much like Pardon Letters) or if the avatar who previously owned the item is deleted for some reason, like when a player reaches he age cap, though this method only matters for Unique items, since there’s only one copy of each item of this at any time on the whole Deep Ground. There are no known legal methods besides those two.
Professions
(New feature, hot!)
The pressing necessity of give the players formal help in guiding their future on the real world gave rise to the concept of Professions on Deep Ground. While most of them aren’t related to real jobs, they still teach the players about the value of working, organizational skills and striving to earn what they want of life as well as another multiple things. The Profession you choose will however, have some impact on your future, so think well before picking one.
Each player can have up to one Profession (plus any related skills) at any single time and they are freely exchangeable, but you lose any progress on your previous Professions if you choose to abandon them. To create an item, or use a profession in general, a player must have both the required raw EXP in Materials, a crafting recipe for that item, and the required profession skill level. Some profession might require additional features as well, like the need of a forge for Blacksmithing, each specific item also takes a time to build and some of them might have cooldown timers to prevent the spam creation of powerful items on the world.
Profession Skill Levels vary in a scale that goes from Novice, Adept, Journeyman, Master and Grand Master, though (much like the Colored Kings) there can only be one Grand Master of each Profession at once on Deep Ground. To raise one’s proficiency in a Profession, one has to keep trying and pushing their skill ever further, investing time and EXP on their quest for perfection.
Just like with abilities, there are as many professions on Deep Ground as there are stars in the sky, thereby a list of them would be impossible to do, just keep in mind what your character can or can’t do. Also, if you choose to have a Profession add it as a new field on your Avatar’s CS.
"Hmm, I see," Eleonor nodded to Axon, listening to his story while eating a strawberry, her expression being a slightly dispassionate mask as she waited for him to conclude his whole report while slowly emptying the tray of the succulent fruit whose color wasn't very distinct of that of her own hair. "Why don't you take a seat, Axon? We have much to talk about as soon as Lorelai comes back." Eleonor said, as she beckoned Axon to a chair beside the one Jessi was using earlier. "Don't feel shy. Please, help yourself, if you are feeling hungry."
Fate would have it that they wouldn't need to wait for long, since Lorelai had just returned, bringing even more world shaking news, though Eleonor was already aware of some of the hidden moves among the Knights of Ragnarok and the Jester playing them as if pieces on a chess board. "I see. To say the truth, I'm surprised that he took so much time to do so. Nifilheim hosted a private army that could have been serious trouble, plus he tried to get in the way of the other divisions on a constant basis. Midgard on the other hand, was unreadable and impossible to control, their mind was too alien even for the Jester, I believe; war hounds that can't be trusted not to bite their own allies should be put down, after all. Or so they say, even though I'm not a adherent of this philosophy. Actually, the only thing I believe that's keeping the Jester from doing the same to Yggdrasil and I is the fact that he must be amused by the Yggdrasil's attempt at a civil war. And for myself... there's things I think that are better left as secrets, especially when they involve the Jester." Eleonor said, just before eating another strawberry. The Crimson Knight appeared to be extremely fond of those fruits, indeed.
"Either way, now that Lorelai is here, I can tell you this, Axon." Eleonor tapped the chair right beside hers, to invite Lorelai before continuing, "You're mistaken on an account, Antonia has nothing to do with this whole situation. She's a priestess, thereby it's natural for her to know of many secrets, the information she holds is beneficial for Yggdrasil, since he can't overthrow me without a Legend Relic of his own and Antonia knows the location of one of them." Eleonor ate another strawberry, chewing the delicate flesh carefully while letting the story sink in on both of them, "However, Antonia swore to protect the information with her life if need be. I'm a friend of hers, from when we both were at the Academy, she's a very dutiful person that we can trust. Unless someone solves the hidden puzzle at the Grand Cathedral, Antonia won't tell them, even at the cost of her life. That's why," another strawberry went down Eleonor's throat as she paused before saying. "I want you to help me, Lorelai, my dearest. As it stands now, you are the only one I can truly trust."
"I want you to come with me and help searching the Relic Antonia is hiding, actually, Axon will come as well. I'm sure you know that I'll want to keep an eye on you, now that you know so much, don't you?" Anticipating the obvious question from both of them, Eleonor said, "Even Fei can't be fully trusted. I don't mean that she would betray me, but she's blind with her lust for revenge against Emilia, she would abandon the mission without thinking, if the Princess were to goad her. I can't risk Fei's life in such a way. She's my own flesh and blood, I won't send her to a place where she can die... not out of my own will."
"By the way, did any of you two know that strawberries are members of the rose family?" Eleonor said, apparently out of the blue. However, the fact was that as soon as Axon stepped in her house Eleonor had felt a very faint wisp of rose perfume around him, roses that only two persons in this world had access to and considering that one of them was the cohort of her sister, this left only another one to be the source of the smell Axon carried with him.
"I'm right here, Chenny Boy, Ruxy." Mikoto said, coming from behind a tree, holding her hat with a hand and her broom with another, "Man, I gotta say that... was a nice fireworks show."
"What are you gonna do now? I don't suppose you want to chase those grey-skinned hippies. That forest must be rigged with more traps than a trade contract with an Aquarian Merchant Prince." Mikoto said, casually reclining against the tree she was hiding behind and smiling at Chen and Ruxen in a knowing way. "But, if you do wish to go," the Peddler Witch drew a pouch of potions from her backpack, "You'd better restock while you can, after all, how many adventurers can say that they are lucky enough to have their own general store traveling with them at every moment?"
One could easily say that the Twins' plan was a success, though there were some small setbacks, like for example the weird frog like things exploding in a rain of acid organs and entrails. Not only it caused the bridge to crumble before Alex and Tori could cross it (though one had to wonder why they were having so much difficulty making the trip, considering the powers they have employed up to now?) but also, causing some major damage to the Aquarian Twins' clothes, leaving Linea and Siena in little but their underwear and a few scraps of outer clothing.
"At least, I got some of them, Oneesama." Linea said, showing a page of her book filled with drawings and info about the "frogs".
"Well, that's great, Linea. At least we'll have some fun when we get back to the Academy." Siena said smirking evilly, "I can't way to see what'll happen when we drop'em on the pool during the girls' P.E."
"But, before that, let's find something else to wear." Sienna said, clutching her sides while trying to shake of the water from her skin and fur, spraying it everywhere, like a dog right after a bath.
"I came prepared, Oneesama. Just get behind that bush." Linea said, dragging Siena with her to a suspect bush nearby.
"Wa-wait, you can't be serious, Linea! Anything but that!" Siena yelled in distress, apparently Linea's idea was one that even she couldn't stand.
@TheWindel said that I could join you guys, thus I'm posting my CS here for reviewing. Here it goes:
Appearance (Real Life):
Height: 168 cm Weight: 58 kg Hair Color: Blond Eye Color: Blue Name: Eris Valkeyr Age: 15
History: The second daughter of an influent German family with a long streak of wins at DGO, Eris has always lived at the shadow of her older brother, who's an ace but about to reach the age cap and thus has already secured quite a good living. As is expected from a child that got forced by her parents to strive for a living that she might not have wanted, Eris got fed up with her life rather quickly and instead of playing DGO to fulfill her parents' ambitions, she simply used it as a place to vent her rage.
Inside the virtual world she became a deadly warrior who clings to the dark corners and fights with wild abandon swinging a two-handed sword at foes much stronger or numerous than her, knowing that the worst that can happen is for her avatar to die and become unavailable for a few hours.
Knowing that she would be a problem child, Eris' parents put her on a plane and sent her to study at Purple Crown Academy to see if the time away from home would "cool" their daughter's temper.
Personality: Eris is brooding and this filled with a deep discontentment for her upbringing so she tends to be dry and blunt when talking to other people, almost to the point of being obnoxious sometimes. She thinks that she doesn't needs friends and such, since they will only be more trouble to her, but still can't avoid social interactions, since she knows all too well that human being can't live alone.
She's not a bad person to hang around, since she doesn't tend to lash a other people so frequently, but her lack of social finesse can cause some people to feel a certain discomfort around Eris, not that she cares in the very least.
Avatar Class: Warrior (Berserker) Avatar Title: Eclipse Princess Avatar Level (Initial): 3 Avatar Guild: None yet, but would join the Ebony Strykers if they weren't such a fraud.
Avatar Abilities:
1- Shadow Armor (passive): Gains a 20% bonus to defense when in shadowy areas.
2- Shadow Step (passive): Gains a 20% bonus to speed when in shadowy areas.
3- Dark Rage (active): Can be activated to gain a 20% bonus to damage in shadowy areas. If there's no shadow nearby you don't gain the bonus damage, but instead creates an area of shadow around your avatar with a radius of 10 meters/level. Cooldown: 1 min.
Avatar Feats: 3- Power Strike: Increase all damage done by 15%
Anoksuhit followed the Princess' entourage silently, trailing behind the very symbol of Egypt's hallowed steps. The High Priestess of Isis was lost in thought when she was practically bumped on by Phelia, point a finger at Anok and yelling foul words with an ever fouler mouth. Anoksuhit held her staff closer to her chest as she looked down at the royal guard, "Who are you to command me, guard? Don't you realize that not only am I the High Priestess of the Mother of All, but also the only daughter of General Sehmet, brother of the Pharaoh? If you wish to talk to me, do so with the required reverence." Anok said coldly, with a bored glare on her face as if she were losing time on even talking to Phelia.
Though, the mention of the visions she had on this earlier evening made Anoksuhit shudder, the look on her eyes changing to one of uncertainty, before she spoke to Phelia again. "That said, I truly had a most dreary revelation on this evening. Our Goddess granted me with a sight, on it the Princess bathed on the waters of the Great Nile, under the Eye of Ra. Suddenly Ra was lost, devoured by the Unspeakable One, the Princess was left to fend for herself as a Lion, a Hippopotamus and a Crocodile and a crocodile approached her, leaving only one narrow road to safety." Anok said to Phelia, though it wasn't quite the same vision she had, or better... Anok hadn't any vision at all, but with her knowledge of the Holy Scriptures, Anoksuhit was able to "produce" such visions at a convincing enough level for others to believe.
The truth was that Anok was on her position not because she was gifted, but because her father had set her to it. The High Priestess lived her days up to now faking everything to the point that she started to convince herself of some of her lies. A sense of superiority was born on Anoksuhit, before she could notice, she was convincing fake of a Priestess. Even then, if Isis were to see her efforts, shouldn't the goddess grant her with the gift sooner or later? That was he only thought that Anok had in mind, though it wasn't like she cared anyway. As long as her father was content and nobody knew the truth, Anoksuhit's life was going to continue like it always been. "It's not like I even have a choice, contrary to Anahutet, who's free to do as she pleases, I'm only a tool to fulfill others desires." Anoksuhit thought bitterly.
"I'm going to the Sacred Pools to meditate on these events. Please, don't disturb me unless it's a matter of of life or death." Anoksuhit said, as she began to walk away, before quickly turning to address Phelia again, "Since you are already here, ask someone to tell my handmaiden to meet me at the pools. I can't proceed on the ritual while unassisted." before leaving for good.
