Kahleen takes the radio from the wall. By dialing the same number on both radios, they are set to the same frequency and they can now communicate with each other!
The 5x5 square of switches are all set in the "ON" position, but none of them do anything when you flip them. Maybe it's unpowered? The North arrow seems interesting though. What is the purpose of that?
The glass in front of you swings open like a door when you push on it. As you breathe, the air feels cold and filtered, like you're in a ventilated room. You calm down after a while, and you take a look around.
You find yourself in a storage room. It's dim and it's hard to see more than outlines from a distance. Shelves line the walls and are stacked with a wide range of objects. Glass jars, sheet metal, toolboxes, chemicals, there's too many things to identify them all at a glance. You'll need to manually search through the shelves if you want to make any progress here.
You notice two doors to the left and one door down, but they are all locked. Perhaps you can find a way through.
You hear a gunshot above you. It sounds distant, though. The elevator continues to hum.
"Hmm... Maybe we should try pushing the green button. Green for go, and all that?" Chris would say, indicating that he is looking for Lana's opinion on the matter. If she says yes, or some other affirmative, then he would push the green button.
I hand Chris the newly found radio. "Here. Keep that on you at all times. Just in case we get seperated." I was just about to say something about the arrow when - boom; a gunshot. My head flies up towards the ceiling, clearly the shot was coming from somewhere above. "We are not alone." Fear strikes through my veins. The fact that someone had not only access to a gun, but was also willing to use it made that person a hundred per cent bad level for me. I would not be working towards meeting them, and hopefully I would find a way to rather work away from them.
My mind is running. "This arrow..." My eyes move upwards to see where the arrow leads. "These 5x5 square of switches are all set in the "ON" position, but it seems unpowered?" I was just thinking out loud, not really understanding any of this technical stuff. I look around to find a way to empower them. There has to be a power box, or anything that could help.
When I last saw the elevator it was not powered, but now it was constantly humming as though someone had found a way to empower the lift. Which both scared me and relieved me. But duo to the gunshots, more scared me right now.
"If there's someone above us, that means there's another floor. Who knows how high this building is. We need to get down and out of here. Either we use the elevator, which seems to work again, and which will most likely pull all attention to us duo to the fact that it's not the most quiet thing. Or we find the stairs. I want out of here. Now. Before the person with the gun finds us."
Chris decides to press the green button. Nothing happens for a moment, then suddenly panels start blinking to life all around you. The room seems to hum with energy as lights flash on and flicker. Then in the rooms around you, you can hear the buzz of fluorescent lights turning on and you can see in the office to the right that the lights are back! This will make things easier!
Lana gives a radio to Chris. You may now communicate with each other wherever you are.
The 5x5 panel has lit up.
Because the facility is now lit up, you can now quickly move to any room on your personal map.
DEFAULT ACTION: SEARCH
Before you start searching, the lights are turned back on. You can see much more clearly now. In the corner of the room, you notice an elevator. The humming you heard earlier seems to be coming from here. This could be your way out! The elevator still seems quite far off. You have some time to spend.
You scavenge the storage room. In addition to the things you spotted before, you manage to locate some corrosive acid, ethanol, a tranquilizer gun and some scalpels, forceps and pins for dissections.
On one of the left walls is a wireless radio. Nearby are instructions on how to contact Security, Medical or Fire.
You find two more locked doors. All the doors are locked! You need to find a way out.
"Well, it looks like the power is back, and I completely agree about not wanting to stick around after that gunshot. And thanks for the radio. If we can find the stairs, I agree with using them, but I think that we should also take a look around this floor a bit more. There might be useful things that we missed, or even thins that explain this place, and what happened to us. What do you think?" Chris said, taking the Radio and taking another look at the bank of switches, looking for any marks on them that tell what they connect to. the nearby wall is included in that search.
"I don't want to linger around. This place is bad news. Whatever happened made people leave in a hurry. Do you really think sticking around is a good idea? No. I wanna go. They might even locked down the whole building or will soon. Who knows. I won't spend my time searching for what happened because that's bad news. I just want to get out of here without harm."
I could don't believe anyone would stay here if they had a chance to leave. This was insane. I wanted out of here fast.
"Look. I'm not sure that putting the power on was a good idea of ours. Now whoever is here definitely knows they're not alone. And they'll be looking for us. And they have a gun. I really just want to go. Find the stairs. And if we run into useful things, sure grab 'em. But I won't stay to investigate."
With the lights on, you can read the labels on the panels easier, though most of them are referred to simply by a number designation. You can see the red and green buttons are labeled "EMERGENCY STOP" and "POWER RESET" respectively. On the 5x5 panel, each switch has a coordinate written next to it, starting with "A1" in the top left and ending in "E5" in the bottom right.
DEFAULT ACTION: HIDE
Not knowing what to do, you hide behind some metal sheets, hoping you won't be seen.
The dull drone of the elevator suddenly stops. Moments later, you hear faint shuffling coming from somewhere.
I decide that I can't do any good here anymore, I can't do technique for shit. I would probably fuck something up and I don't understand a word either. My feet move over the floor towards the opening in the wall; maybe I can find somewhere else to keep going and find either some answers or even an escape out of this building. But my thoughts and movements stop immediately when I hear shuffling. What is this? I listen closely, maybe I can make out how far they're away, what direction they come from and how many there are. Maybe I can even slip away to hide somewhere else.
My eyes dart back to the 5x5 panel of switches and suddenly a strange thought flashes through my mind. I lift up the map I found in the office earlier and take a closer look at it. 5x5, eh? It might not be it, but without the huge "241- VEL. CHAMBER" room it would make perfectly 5 times 5 rows of rooms. Some bigger, some smaller, but the pattern is the same. Just maybe the panel of switches turns the lights on and off on the entire floor. But as usual, I cannot be sure of that. My knowledge of technology is probably only average. If even that.
I don't want people to think I am here somewhere. Which is kinda weird, because I should be happy about anyone who can lead the way out of here. But somehow my guts tell me that this would not be the case. And I trust my guts in situations like this. So my decision on hiding and not exactly giving away that I am here still stands. Though I will use anything I can to my advantage, if I need to.
I might just try the switches to make sure what they're here for each one on their own, but right now I only listen to see if someone is being close to me.
[Let me break down my actions: Just fucking stands there paralized while having thoughts and listens to any noises, especially the shuffling.]
You wait, listening silently. Then, somewhere the the right and down on this floor, you hear the bang-clunk of elevator doors opening and heavy boots on the tiles. Then you hear a voice talking to his radio:
???: This is Kilo Team, we're on two-four-one ready to make the sweep. RADIO: Copy that. Be aware, we've been informed that the subjects may have woken up at this time. ???: Understood. We'll be fine. It's not like they have guns or anything!
You flick one of the switches off and on, and the sound of a fluorescent light blinking on somewhere confirms that this is a light panel.
You have a radio to talk to Chris, a map with the maintenance crew's number, a pen and a pair of scissors. Chris has a thin chrome pole, the electric prod, a key with "241" written on it and a radio to talk to you.
I gasp. This definitely doesn't make me wanna run into their arms. At least I know that it's two or more people out there. Searching for us. They knew we are in here somewhere. Subjects they said. What exactly did they do? Earlier I've read stuff about DNA. I just hope they didn't change me or used my body, blood or whatever for any bad things. How did they choose me? Did I sign up for this? Because I clearly do not remember. And if I didn't, it'd be kidnapping! But that's a problem for later.
I quickly turn off all lights and then move to the office room before they reach me. I hide at the best hiding posibility in the room, weapons readied. (In this case the scissors.) I assume they know this place. So they would know, if someone turns off the lights, at which place they'd need to be at to do so. And I was hoping that whatever happened next would go one of two ways; work out great or kill me quickly. [Hey, I don't know if greywolf comes back. So what do I do? Just ignore Chris standing there or can I take his things? If so, I would gladly take all his stuff with me. Sad that he left though.]
As you turn off the lights, you hear the stranger talking.
???: Ground base, this is Kilo Team. Yeah, somebody's definitely down here. The lights just went out. We're checking out Power-A first, then Power-B. RADIO: Copy that.
You can see down the hallway. You hear someone using some keys, then the door labeled "241-STORAGE" swings open and a man in black tactical gear walks in, pistol first. He shines a flashlight down the hallway into the office, but he doesn't notice you. He then turns around and walks down.
It will be difficult to face him head on. You will need every advantage you can get.
(OOC: So long as greywolf doesn't control his character, I'll let you interact with Chris like he was an NPC/companion. So I guess you can take his stuff.)
I would never dare to try and attack that man who obviously has a gun, some gear and probably a lot more combat experience than I do. I would never have a chance. And I am also more of a hiding person.
Before I leave, I take Chris' thin chrome pole, the electric prod and the key. I have no clue that that electric prod is good for or how to use it. I wonder... can the thin chrome pole be used as a weapon?
Power A - I know where that is. Therefor I know where the man is heading, and also where they are heading next. I know I could use the chance and get him from the back, but all I have is a pair of scissors and some thin chrome pole. I don't think I can do much with that to stop him from shooting me the minute he spots me. I just really wish I could be sure to knock him out somehow before he notices me. But I am not, and because of that uncertainty I will not blindly walk into the man and his pistol.
I quietly move to the hallway and into the room that's labeled "241-CHEM SYNTH/ANAL.". Opening and closing the door as quietly as possible. And hopefully there would be one or two things to help me.
If possible, I try to get the right frequency on my radio to listen in on the two men that talk on their radios with each other. It will be helpful to keep knowing where they are and what they're planning.
The pole can be used as a weapon, though it has very little weight, like it was made of polystyrene. Unlike polystyrene, however, it is very hard to bend or deform the pole.
You creep into "241-CHEM SYNTH/ANAL" without anyone noticing.
A quick glance confirms that this is a laboratory. The room is filled with rows of lab tables with various chemicals and projects left scattered about. Gas valves are installed into each of the tables. You notice a yellow light on one of the tables at the far end. The walls of the room are lined with cupboards containing god-knows-what. In the bottom right corner a refrigerator sits silently.
You try fiddling with the radio. You find that the number for Security is linked to the frequency of "Kilo Team" and whoever is on the other end. You listen in.
Kilo: Nobody at Power-A, moving on to check Power-B. Our coordinates are D3, A1 and C1.
The room continues right and the hallway is to the left.
I am not yet sure what to do except for running away. So until I have a better plan, I try to keep moving away from those who hunt me. I move to the right room while I keep thinking. According to the emergency map there would be an elevator. I just wish the map would show stares. Every building has stares after all, especially since elevators can't be used during emergencies. And since I was able to hear the elevator move earlier, I figure that they could probably hear if I used it. But if there's no better plan then what shall I do? I need to get out of this building somehow. And the map doesn't show a staircase and I can't blindly run and look for the stairs. So the elevator it is. Dangerous territory though.
I keep a tight grip on the lightweight thin pole. This and the scissors are all I have to use as a weapon. I keep the radio on the security/Kilo Team frequency and listen in on their conversations carefully. Especially their locations were interesting at this point.
As you enter the next room, you notice an acrid odour in the air. It smells sharp and slightly nauseating, like solvent and burnt plastic.
The source of the smell is a fume hood that is turned off, allowing the gaseous chemicals inside to spread. There is a test tube within that seems to be emitting the foul gas.
More lab equipment is scattered here, and gas valves are everywhere, much like the previous room. Again, cupboards line the walls with various acidic or poisonous chemicals within. There are also large grey analysis machines on some of the tables, which can be used as cover.
The way down is locked, but you have a key. You can also go left.
I take the pencil out that I got from the office a whole while earlier, I write the word "chem" on the map right where I am now. Just to remember exactly where to find those chemicals - you never know.
Then I take out the key labeled with "421" and try to silently unlock the door that leads down and hopefully to the elevator that I was hoping to find behind said door.
You unlock the door and you are met with the back of another Kilo team member. He is just reacts to the sound of the door opening behind him so you have just a moment to act before he does anything. He hasn't even seen you yet.
His radio crackles and covers up the sound of your own radio perfectly.
Kilo: Bravo moving up to Power B, position B3. Echo clearing out column A, position A2. Delta guarding the cargo lift.
I am in shock. Without really thinking about it I swing the chrome pole as hard as I can and hit the guard right onto the back of his head. I hope my full strength was enough to knock him out, but if not I would hit right again. I need him to be unconscious.
Before he can turn around, you bring the pole on his head. It has the force of a heavy punch and he falls to the floor with a shout. You swing again and he gets knocked out properly, but surely his teammates must have heard him?
Indeed, the radio crackles again and you hear someone calling!
Kilo: We heard shouts! Subject is definitely active! Roll call! Kilo: Bravo here.
The radio goes silent.
The room around you is larger than normal and filled with shelves with equipment and chemicals everywhere, but it's very dark. It would be easy to hide among the shelves in the dark. The doors to the left and directly down are both unlocked and open.
I know that I have no time, I really wanna search the guard for any useful items, but I decide not to risk it. I couldn't take any trained guard team down. So instead I risk it somehow else. I take the radio of the unconscious guard and speak into it making my voice sound as much as the other guards on the other end as possible. "Delta here." I hoped that my voice over the radio would sound different enough to not have them come here, but just in case they do I leave everything in it's place and hide in the dark room behind some shelves.
I know I am in danger, but I am not sure where else I could go without causing more trouble on my side. So for now I stay and be ready to fight with all my power if I had to. While hiding, I check out the shelves I could easily reach to see if there was anything close to me that I could use for adventage if needed.
