OOC is live:
http://www.roleplayerguild.com/topics/91999-sentinel-contractors-smoking-gun/ooc

Still working on a name, but here is the gist of it all.

Brief History

The year is 2067 and a lot has changed from the first half of the century. Many of these changes have been brought about by the advancements in technology and computers. In 2020 war broke out in the Middle East after many years of civil war between factions struggling for control. What sparked the war were nuclear strikes on Russia and Europe throwing the world into chaos as alliances were made, forces were assembled, and a war like never before ensued. For five years the war went on until Japan, Europe, and The United States signed a treaty that also merged their theologies research allowing the formation of Soldier Assisted Implants and the Robotic Soldier. These, once incorporated into the fight, tipped the scales ending the war. The years that followed saw a worldwide depression for the governments. During the war many of the governments ordered hundreds and even thousands of the SAI and Robotic Soldiers, which after the war bankrupted many of them. The Tech Conglomerate was smart and foresaw a situation passing that they become and Independent Corporation from the governments they worked for.

In 2029 the conglomerate known as WT Development owned five of the world’s governing powers: The US, Japan, China, Russia, and Europe. With this they began to privatize the police force making it mandatory to be outfitted with the latest Net Gear. When it started as just ways to monitor the vitals and overall health of all the officers, but rapidly grew to have many other functions. Robotic Soldiers were being used with the police forces, controlled by a handler via their Net Gear. With these major advancements came the luxury devices and systems, Professional/Recreational Robots, Net Gear Industrial Vehicles, and a great deal of other things. All of this technology did not go without drawbacks; glitches, Neural Overloads, Memory Wipes… these were but a few of the tragedies that came to first and even second gen users. The worst of it though was the people who chose to exploit the systems and cause their own kind of trouble.

With the growing size of interconnected systems the ability to track this new breed of hackers was near impossible. Even with the new advances in security programs, and tracers these people were always evading justice. Special task forces were made by WT Development and issued to each country in order to track down and persecute these abusers of the system that was in 2048. By 2055 these groups were being called Crash Squads, and now in 2067 they have brought major Cyber Crimes to a minimum.

The setting is post Technological Singularity, but would be related to the "Ghost in the Shell" series while predating and not in the same timeline. The group will operate from and move around to the following cities: Chicago United States, Tokyo Japan, Moscow Russia, and/or Paris France. As a task force against the threat of cyber related attacks you are under their own authority when the circumstances get out of hand. Like I said this would be story driven as the team leads an open investigation trying to track down the leaders of a Blue Collar crime conspiracy. While trying to find the leaders of the interconnected criminal underground to get information that will work them up the ladder, they must also battle the bureaucratic walls and red-tape put up buy the High Society empire leaders that may be somehow linked to what would classified as Corporate and International Espionage.

@Mysaren, I have recently received a PM from someone who had a similar idea, and we are talking over some points they wanted to offer. I would also like to mention that I am open to such offers from anyone who would like to add to this. My plot is flexible. :)

Formal interest here.

On another note, I am now curious what @Mysaren's idea was? Was he looking at an RP idea similar to my Alamo Scouts venture?

Pardon my confusion.

I sent him the PM. Based on Master Crim's response to your post, his use of the word, "similar" prompted me to think you had a "similar" idea to his or mine. Now I see it was, Master Crim was simply referring to the fact that my idea was similar to his own. But since, mine takes place 10 years before his and his idea moves beyond the place technologically speaking where I left off, it would not make sense to blend them. But I will create a character who was previously employed by a company I created known as Alamo Scouts.

Master Crim, allow me to offer a suggestion. WT Development is the conglomerate that owns all the leading governments across the globe. More than likely, WTD owns a multitude of Multi-National Corporations (MNC)s that offer a wide variety of goods and services. Could one of these subsidiary corporations be Titanium Security Group? The agents who are our characters are employed by Titanium or TSG which in turn answers to WTD? We could even permit WTD to own my Alamo Scouts if you like. Then you could name the thread, Titanium Security Group. If Titanium is not the word you are looking for, what is another solid strong word to use? Medion, Ventris, Dominion, Citadel? Any other ideas? anyone?

@geminironin Thank you for your interest! Responding to both is okay, I put up two because I find that the people who play in Casual don't always check the Casual IC lists. Also having two threads helps get the word out. ;)

@GuntherThat is a very good point to make. Owning many critical assets from the countries makes more sense than owning the governments out of debt. Seeing as WT Dev. is a World Wide producer and leading authority in military grade tech and goods it would make sense that they own a great many of the resource and production assets around the world. They are also big in the security division, and there for have a strong hand over many police forces, and would again make sense that they own different privatized security groups for training and other needs.

I will copy your post and put it in my OOC post notes for revision. Thanks again! I tried this story months ago, and made it almost a year ago, so there are plenty of things tha I didn't think of when going through it again to put up here.

as for the name, I was going to ask for ideas for a team name to use for the title, but having a department name like that would work too. We have three people here now so we can start the ball rolling for the OOC. Why don't you all throw, lets say, two or three names my way for the team we are / department we work for. I have a few now, I just want to see what you all think.

@Master Crim I'm very much interested in this! Just a question, would any of us be allowed to play as a hacker, as opposed to a member of the Crash Squad?

Welcome Wade. I initially asked the direct opposite of this question. I could see a place for both a hacker and an operator in this Crash Squad. Let's see what Crim says.

Unfortunately this story does not have a place for a player controlled hacker against the Crash Squad, but if it suits you, you can play as the team's Technical Expert. This position would have you basically as the team's hacker, and data miner. Your character would be the main go-to for retrieving not easily accessible files from encrypted drives, breaking through security, and technical support where needed (Cameras, light, doors, ect...). this position could put you in the field or helping remotely while working on other assignments to look into leads for your team issued from WT Dev.

With this story it would be hard for a lone hacker to play games against a Crash Squad since they have a 96% success rate on Tracking/Catching/Terminating their targets, and it unfortunately would not be possible for you to play a hacker turned informant since you would be locked up somewhere until we needed information.

This is what I was thinking of too. This looks like a good idea. In fact, I could see at least two field agents on the team with these skills as well as weapons familiarization and basic fire and maneuver training.

@Avanhelsing, thanks also for your interest. Do you know Latin or just know the phrase?

@Wade Wilson, awesome!

Like I said before; I am hoping to get a OOC post up by the end of the weekend. Thus will have the CS and a blurb that contains the edited/enhanced version of the story. This is about as large a group this story can handle as well so unless someone needs to drop out we won't be accepting any more people.
