"Then in a few months we'll get married. Do you want to stay here for a while before we try and get a home and a farm or do you want to move out shortly after?" Ryland asked.

"Alright, do we have any of that ink?" Avera asked,

"It's probably best to stay here for now. We have a lot to take care of already, so having to move out and make more preparations would make things even harder" Aura explained.

"We do. I'll also get that string and the other stuff you mentioned" Caex said. He quickly left and returned with the measuring tools and a piece of parchment. He also brought a scale with some weights. "I thought it might be good to weigh Auryn as well."
"There's more than one way to create a new spell, but from what I understand, it involves trying out a number of things and experimenting. I asked my mother about that a long time ago, and I remember her saying something about going with what attempts work and not trying the unworkable ones again. It is hard, from what I understand" Larek explained. "An easier way to do it is to combine elements of spells one already knows and see what the new effect is."

"The illusions keep the city safe from attackers, who can't tell where the defenders are or what they're even shooting at, if they have catapults and the like" Veax said.

"Maybe something that has an outdoors section? The moon will look beautiful against the ocean" Orna added. "Maybe we can get some seafood? There's not a lot of it on the farm" she told Tran.

Avera laid Auryn down on a table, lightly rubbing his tummy to keep him calm. "Alright, which should we do first?" She asked.

Ryland nodded. "And you want to stay close to your youngest nephew for a while, right?" He asked with a smile.

"Well, the ink part takes only a few seconds" Caex said, holding a small ink well. "At his age, all we have to do is to dip each foot briefly into the well, and press them to this parchment" he added, holding the items. "Then I can use this wet cloth to wipe him clean, and we can measure him using the string."

"That too" Aura added, sighing. "There's going to come a time when they will need someone to watch him, you know. I can't expect them to stay on the farm all of the time."

"Of course. One more question, when did you want to start trying for a child?" He asked.

Avera nodded and moved, gently holding one of Auryn's feet to keep it still. "Best to do it quickly before he gets restless."

"As soon as we're married" Aura explained. "That's why it's not considered a sealed deal until we consummate it" she said, laughing.

Caex moved quickly, dipping his little clawed feet in the cool ink and pressing them to the large piece of parchment. Then he cleaned his son off with the cloth. The whole process took under a minute. "There. That wasn't so bad. We can try again in a few months or a year, see how much larger his footprints are then. Now, let's do the string."

Nyx listened thoughtful, then said "isn't that a bit dangerous though, not knowing what will happen?"

"Well that makes sense" hermia said "very smart"

"Sounds good" tran agreed "kind of hard to grow fish on a farm" he said with a laugh

Avera smiled and kissed the top of Auryn's head before taking the string and measuring from Auryn's heel to the very top of his head, cutting the string after marking it and handed it to Caex. "Now to find a wall we don't mind marking up and writing on."

Ryland chuckled and gave Aura a kiss. "We'll try and figure an exact date later on."

"Pick any wall you want" Caex replied, not really choosy about it himself. "He really is a tall hatchling."

"We can still kiss in the meantime" Aura said, doing just that. Dracon snouts weren't as good as human lips, but they could nuzzle far better than any flat-faced apes could.
"Sometimes, but an experienced mage knows what kinds of magics are dangerous to mix and match. My mother is very skilled, so I wouldn't worry about it" Larek replied.

"It's also hard to maintain" Veax added, speaking about the illusions.

"Let's take a look around. Part of the city is on a raised platform overlooking the ocean, and must be quite the sight" Orna told them, having heard of that part of Naugoa, but never actually traveling to it before.

"Yeah" Nyx nodded, "it's still good to be safe though" she said

"It must take a lot of magical energy" hermia said, "and do outside things effect it?"

Tran nodded, "let's do that then. See some sights, in a new city" it would be interesting seeing this city, comparing it to his own. Even though he didn't live in the city any more, he still thought of it as his

"She wouldn't mix any magics that would in any way pose a threat to herself or others" Larek assured Nyx.

"It would take a lot of magic to affect it, but yes, it could be broken by a very powerful dispel spell" that last part seemed a bit odd for Veax. 'Dispel spell.'

They walked through Naugoa for a while. It's architecture was quite different from that of Minbenthac's, although all eight of the major dracon cities had their own style. Whereas Minbenthac had a lot of brown, red, and grayish buildings, Naugoa's tended to be colored gray and blue, with far more towers and greater overall height. The few towers that Minbenthac had were mostly limited to the richer neighborhoods, and it was rare to see anything over five stories, but here it was hard to avoid a ten, fifteen, or even twenty-story tower. An unusual blue stone was the predominant building material, along with some cheaper gray rock. It gave the city a very cool feel, despite being in the desert. This 'watery' feeling was reinforced by the fact that, unlike Minbenthac, Naugoa was a coastal city, and as soon as they got to the platform, they could see the vast ocean stretching on into infinity, with the still-shining sun reflecting off of the blue waters.

"Wow, look at all those ships..." Veax said, quite awed by the sight.

"I know" Nyx said, laying back a bit, "it's odd thinking about magic. It could do such good. Do you realize how much being able to heal someone would effect my mother?" She mused on that.

Hermia stared at them in amazement "it's so amazing we can travel over that"

"It's like it's never ending" tran said

"That kind of magic is rare apart from clerics" Larek noted.

"Yeah. Mother told me that those big, roundish ones are cargo ships" Veax said, pointing to some of the vessels in the harbor. "The ones with the bigger sails are warships. My father told me he was on a warship once, briefly. Not as a sailor or anything."

"And those ones with the blue sails are fishing ships. Speaking of which, I'm getting hungry" Orna told the others.

"Still" Nyx said "it's interesting to think about"

Hermia studied the different ships, then said "I put it would be hard to cook on them"

"Than lets see about food shall we?" Tran said

"You can ask her about it when we next see her" Larek said.

"Ship food really isn't very good, unless you're on a yacht or private vessel" Veax added.

"Good idea. It shouldn't be too hard to find a place to eat. I remember that the businesses in Naugoa all have pictures outside, telling what kind of services they have. Something with food should be what we're looking for. Heh, I remember once I saw a spider on a store's sign, which was for a silk works. I thought it was a store that sold spiders."

"Alright" Nyx said

"If you're skilled enough you can make anything taste good" hermia said

"Well that's helpful. And misleading" tran said, looking about them

"You do have one good point, though" Larek explained. "Mixing magic with magic can be very dangerous if you don't know what you are doing."

"True, although most skilled chefs prefer not to work on a ship" Veax added.

"Spider-silk was what that sign was hinting at" Orna explained. "Anyway, that place over there looks like its a restaurant." She pointed at a rectangular structure that had a large crowd inside of it, and the smell of food coming from the windows. There were dracons seated both in the building and on a porch outside overlooking the water.

"So better to know what you are doing" Nyx said "like with most things I guess"

"Probably because it isn't a good or easy cooking environment" hermia mused

"Looks good" tran said, "we can try there"

"Some of it is learned by trial-and-error" Larek admitted. "This is quite the conversation we've been having in bed, if I may say so. I married such a smart female."

"And the food has to be stored so it won't spoil" Veax added. "That means a lot of salting and pickling, and a lot of food taken straight from the barrel. Not exactly fine dining."

Orna nodded to Tran, then she stepped inside, and found that it was indeed a restaurant, complete with round wooden tables and cushions to sit on. Not long after arriving, a tall green dracon in formal black robes greeted them.

"Would you like a table for four?" he asked, adjusting the sleeves of his robes a little bit.

Orna smiled, happy to have found a nice place so soon. "Oh, yes, please. Preferably outside, overlooking the water."

"That will take a few minutes to open up" he told her.

Nyx smiled, "I like to know things" she said, "and it does serve to keep my mind off the egg" she laughed, laying a hand on her belly.

"No it doesn't sound like it" hermia said, following Tran and Orna, looking about the place
