A blast of freezing cold air narrowly missed the lean figure of the masked man as he leapt through the air before landing in a crouched pose safely out of harm's way.

"Hey! Cool it Killer!" The man called as he reached for one of the weapons holstered on his back. "Give back what you stole and I don't have to mess up your pretty face."

"Tough words from a Batman wannabe." The woman opposite the young vigilante said with a cruel smile. "Where's the cape?" Killer Frost added as spike of ice appeared in her hand as she hurled it towards the young man. Spinning on his heel, Nightwing flicked his wrist as he expertly deflected the frozen construct and rushed forward. Drawing a second escrima stick, Nightwing delivered a tazer laden blow to Killer Frost's torso before launching into the air and delivering a strong kick with both of his legs to the woman's back before flipping safely out of harm's way.

"Honey, I taught him everything he knows." Nightwing retorted with a wink. Scowling as she righted herself, Nightwing suddenly felt a notable drop in temperature as frost began to form on the outer layer of his suit. While it was resilient to the cold, it wasn't exactly designed to go up against the likes of Killer Frost for a prolonged period. Igniting the tazer within his escrima stick, Nightwing rush forward only for Killer Forst to hit one of his legs with a blast of her powers. Feeling the ice encase his leg, Nightwing braced himself for impact as he hit the ground, carefully rolling out of the way of a follow up attack.

"Men can never stay committed around me..." Killer Frost began only for Nightwing to cut her off.

"Let me guess, you always give them cold feet." He snapped. "I don't believe that for an instant there Killer, pretty sure you blue-balled them all." He continued as Frost's smile fell and became a cruel snarl.

"I'll shatter your frozen corpse into a million pieces!" The woman screached as she raised her hands only to be sent flying by a green beam from above.

"Oh hey good lookin'." Nightwing said with a casual wave as he looked to the sky and saw Starfire had arrived.\

"I would appreciate being included next time you decide to partrol." Starfire stated flately before turning her eyes on Nightwing's frozen leg and thawing it with her optic beam.

"It looked like a slow night." Nightwing replied with a sheepish shrug as he stumbled to his feet. "And you looked so peaceful."

Rain splattered against the face of Richard Grayson's helmet as he guided his motorcycle along the street of aging Victorian era townhouses. Among the buildings was one particularly impressive estate that had been converted into apartments during an early Wayne Industries' affordable housing project while Bruce's father, Thomas Wayne, was still alive. Bringing the motorcycle to a stop outside of the building, Dick dropped the kickstand, disengaging the engine as he felt Kori's arms relax before the two figures stood up from the small vehicle. A shiver ran down Dick's spine as he approached the house, Kori's body followed suit as it tensed up. Rain turned to small pellets of steam as it collided with her skin, her alien physiology already acting defensively. Gotham had numerous notorious locales among it, but none so notorious as Park Row. Better known to the people of Gotham as Crime Alley, Park Row was plagued with an ever present criminal element, and the Park Row Apartments were no different. Ever since the 1900's the building had been associated with several grim murders and even a couple of serial killers. These occurrences died down in wake of the conversion to apartments, but even still, a crawling sensation of darkness hung over the place as the influence of the penthouse tenant seeped into the building.

"Remember, he's a friend." Dick said as he began climbing the steps to the front door.

"Be that as it may, this place is still unnerving." Koriand'r replied, her arms crossing as a shiver traveled down her own spine.

"Well he is a demonologist." Dick replied, a small smirk crossing his face in an attempt the lighten the mood. "But if we're going to have any hope of finding Raven, then he's our best bet." A slight twinge of guilt found its way into Dick's chest as he spoke the words. When he left the Titans, several of his closest friends followed suit. Koriand'r departed Earth, and Raven took refuge in Azarath, no longer having the protection of her friends. Dick couldn't imagine what it'd be like to live one's life constantly on the run. He chose to live on the move, always looking forward, but Raven was trapped, constantly watching what was behind her. Her father needed her and she knew it, the Titans had managed to repel him once, but eventually Trigon was bound to return.

Entering the building, Dick buzzed apartment 909 and leaned back. Kori's chest heaved up and down, a feeling of anxiety wafting off of the normally calm and collected Princess. Koriand'r was normally not one for fear, as a young girl her freedom had been traded for peace on Tamaran. Living deserted on an isolated world, Koriand'r grew up learning to ignore fear to survive, but now the feeling of the true raw unknown was making her skin crawl.

The buzz of the door suddenly broke the silence as the pair shuffled inside. Walking through the main hallway, Kori couldn't help but admire the older craftsmanship in the building. Although there had been many renovations to turn the old estate into an apartment building, the antique styling had been kept in tact. Gothic finishes and dark colours chased away any remaining light from the windows as dim, aged bulbs flickered in the hallway adding to the already grim atmosphere. Pressing the call button for the elevator, Kori decided it was time to speak.

"You can't continue to blame yourself, Dick." A warm hand found its way to Dick's shoulder as he moved his eyes from the elevator doors to Kori's emerald gaze. "You made a choice, I made a choice, and so did Raven." The ding of the elevator caused the pair to break their gaze before stepping inside.

"But I also made Raven a promise," Dick stated, stepping forward. "We all did." Continuing as he pressed the button for the penthouse, Dick's brow furrowed as his frustration became clear. "We were more than a team, we were a family, just like Bruce and Alfred are to me. If anything happened to either of them I'd be there in a heartbeat," the elevator began to move, Dick turned to face Kori once again. "But what really bothers me is in her time of need, we're the only ones here now. Her family abandoned her and I can't help but feel responsible for that."

"But we are here now." Kori interrupted. "Perhaps the others will come around, perhaps they won't. What matters is our actions from this point forward."

A sign of resignation escaped Dick's chest as he lowered his head before pushing back his long, dark hair. A deep breath entered the toned chest as it rose up before quickly collapsing with his exhale. His piercing blue eyes quickly met Kori's as he raised his head once again before stepping forward and embracing her.

"I really love you sometimes, you know that?" He said with a soft kiss on her forehead. "Now then," he said as the door opened. "We have to help our friend." Suddenly the elevator shook as the lights went out only for the power to return immediately afterwards as each fixture in the hallway illuminated in a slow series.

"Okay, I hate this place." Dick said with a soft chuckle as he led Kori forward, his hand firmly intertwined with her own. "I just hope it's not a waste of our time."

The knocker on the door to apartment hung ominously in the center of the dark wooden door. It's gaping maw and bared teeth threatened to eat Dick's hand as he reached towards the knocker only for the door to open just as Dick's fingers touched the aging brass.

"The Batman said to expect you." A steely voice came from the door's opening as a man stepped forward from the dimly lit interior. A streak of white parted the man's deep auburn hair indicating an age which didn't match the smooth features of his harsh face. Were Dick not familiar with Jason Blood's ailment, he would have assumed the other man to be barely older than himself.

"We apologize for meeting you on such short notice Jason Blood, but our friend Raven is in danger and we can only assume it's due to the return of her father, Tri-." Koriand'r stopped as Jason raised a hand upon the mention of Trigon's name.

"Stating his name will only draw his attention to us here. And if I'm to help you find your friend, I can't have a demon breathing down my neck." Motioning for the pair to enter, Kori gazed around the dreary interior. Aged books decorated the walls as book shelf upon book shelf covered every corner of the room. Dark colours dominated the interior with splashes of blood red added the only evidence of life to the blacks and browns.

"Your friend, she's the demon's daughter correct?" Jason asked as he took a seat at a small round table. Laying directly in the center was a large crystal orb that seemed to glow if only briefly as both Dick and Kori took a seat.

"That's correct. After the team went our own separate ways, Raven returned to the monks of Azarath believing she would be safe from Tri-," Dick paused as he caught himself. "The demon's reach."

"Azarath should have been safe." Blood mused as a hand made its way to his chin. "I'll try contacting the monks." He stated, reaching forward and placing both hands upon the orb in the center of the table. Like a drop of ink in a glass of water, a bead of deep indigo appeared at the center of the orb before it slowly spread through the once clear material turning it a deep opaque blue.

"I can see the monks..." Jason's voice became strained as the darkness was broken by several dots of light. "They're all... dead." He croaked as the distinct smell of sulfur began to fill the room.
'BAMF'

The bang echoed drowning out the crash of the crystal as it shattered against the floor. A cloud of smoke blinded the three it erupted from the center of the table before toppling it. Looking it up, Dick's eyes were met by a pair of amber ones as a strange blue imp stared back, hanging from the ceiling by it's pointed tail.

"What the..." The rest of sentence was suddenly drowned out as a another bang rang out.
'BAMF'

From within the second cloud of smoke, another identical creature appeared, lunging towards Kori only to be swatted harmlessly away by the alien Princess. Suddenly the bangs began to erupt in sequence, the apartment filling with smoke and the overwhelming odor of sulfur.

"Neyaphem!" Jason's voice range out through the blinding thicket. All manner of appendages wrapped themselves are Dick's body as the imps dug their teeth and claws into his skin. From a couple feet away, squeals of pain followed flashes of brilliant verdant as Kori easily defended herself against the tiny attackers. Fighting against the demonic creatures, Dick managed to free an arm as he reached into his jacket. Drawing one of his escrima sticks, the 'buzz' of the tazer came to life before he stabbed it into the blue body of an attacker. The creature screeched in surprise before teleporting away as Dick managed to free himself. Drawing the other escrima stick, Dick found himself back to back with Kori as the she fired 'star bolts' from her hands as the pair fought back against the overwhelming horde of Neyaphem.

"What happened to Jason?" Dick yelled over the screeching creatures.

"Gone, gone the form of man." An omnious voice rang out as the smoke began to clear. Pulling an imp from his face, Dick turned to see the source was none other than Jason himself.

"I believe he has revealed himself." Kori replied flatly as a brilliant beam of green erupted from her eyes pushing an imp back to the oblivion it had appeared from.

"Rise the demon Etrigan!" As the words left Jason's mouth, the man seemingly vanished from the room. In his stead, a hulking monster was left. Pale yellow skin was pulled taunt over a wide maw as sharp teeth hung over the bottom lip. Two horns curled forward from atop the beast's head, their sharpness matched only by the ancient armor it wore.

"Damn you imps back to the hell whence you came!" Ripping the Neyaphems from his body, Etrigan slammed one down in front of him.

"Go with limps, go with tails hung in shame." A gout of fire spewed forth from the demon's throat as Etrigan made short work of his attackers. The flames spread across the room as the creatures ran every which way, portals opening all around Dick and Kori as the room was flooded with purple smoke. Suddenly an imp attached itself to Dick's chest, teleporting them both before letting go of Dick as he reappeared outside the building. Feeling the air rush past him, gravity took a hold of Dick's body as he realized he was several feet above Gotham's skyline.

A blur of orange suddenly caught Dick's eyes as he noticed Kori speeding towards him. Angling himself, Dick directed his body through the air only to collide with Kori as she caught him in her arms.

"Nice catch." Dick shouted over the roar of the wind as Kori turned around and headed back towards Gotham.

"You always seem to be falling for me." Kori replied as the pair flew back into Blood's apartment.

"Tell Azazel that Etrigan sent you." The roar of Etrigan's voice could be heard as he slammed another Neyaphem into the ground only for the creature to flee in a burst of smoke.

"That looks like the last of them." Dick replied as he stepped forward. "Leave, leave, Etrigan! Fade O'demon and return the man!" As Bruce had prepared Jason for the arrival of Dick and Kori, so Bruce had prepared Dick in the event that Jason be forced to revert to Etrigan. Apparently the demonologist's transformation had been a rather unpleasant experience for Gotham's Dark Knight.

"Thank you Nightwing." The returned form of Jason Blood said as he leaned against a nearby wall. The apartment around him laid in ruin as the carpet smoldered whilst books were strewn everywhere.

"Whilst you were attempting to live up to the latter part of your name," Blood paused with a wizened smirk before continuing. "I managed to extract some information from one of the Neyaphem, their lord, Azazel, is the one who took your friend. It seems he had managed to take her to-"
'BAMF'

A Neyaphem leapt through the air, landing on Koriand'r before disappearing in another cloud of smoke, the girl vanishing along with the imp.

"KORI!" Dick yelled as Jason placed a hand on his shoulder.

"Watch out!" The demonologist threw Dick back as his outstretched hand emitted a blast just as another portal opened. Repelling the creature back, Jason raised his arm and cast a ward around the room.

"Where did they take them Jason?" Dick asked turning to the other man.

"Latveria."

A rush of emotions flowed over Dick as he walked up the steps to Wayne manor. As he climbed the front steps, his shoulders sagged as a weight hung over him. Despite having discovered where Raven had been taken, the cost of the information had been too high. There was no doubt in Dick’s mind that Kori could fend for herself but he couldn’t help but feel guilty for her current situation.

Raising a hand, Dick wrapped on the door of the manor, knowing that within mere seconds Alfred’s familiar face would open the heavy oak door.

“Master Richard,” a familiar voice called out as the door swung open, “It’s been far too long.”

Alfred smiled at Dick, looking as impeccable as ever. Age treated the butler well; despite the seemingly never-ending barrage of stress and emotional baggage that came with working for Bruce Wayne, Alfred looked almost lively – a refreshing difference from Bruce’s trademark scowl.

“Please,” said Alfred, “Do come in. Would you like anything to drink? How have you been?”

“Hey Alf,” Dick said with his trademark boyish grin. “I have to admit I’ve been better. It’s just one of those days where demons have kidnapped my girlfriend.” Dick added as he brushed his hair back from his eye. A finger tracing the new cuts that the Neyaphem had left nearly an hour ago. “Afraid I’ll need a rain check on that drink, would Bruce be in?”

“Ah, yes. You’ll find him where he always is,” Alfred sighed, “In that lovely cave of his. I imagine you remember the way.”

“Through the grandfather clock, down the winding flight of stairs, across the drawbridge and watch your step around the guano?” Dick replied with a smug smirk. “Oh who am I kidding?” Dick winked before continuing, “You keep the cave far too clean for there to be any guano.”

“Indeed, Master Richard. Indeed.”

“Always good to see you, Alf.” Dick said with a nod as he patted Alfred on the back, bidding him goodbye for now. The smell of the manor brought back waves of memories as Dick could recall the very first time he had stood in this very lobby. Everything had seemed so much bigger then, but now it almost felt like home. Showing himself the way to Thomas Wayne's study, Dick turned the hands on the antique grandfather clock to ten forty eight as a click let him know it was open. Climbing through the hidden passage, Dick closed the door firmly behind him as he took the elevator down to the main cavern.

Screeches of bats echoed all around him as the elevator disturbed their slumber as it shuddered to a halt allowing the former ward of Bruce Wayne to exit.

"I don't seem to recall an elevator when I was Robin, looks like you're getting soft in your old age."

Bruce sat in front of the array of screens that made up what Dick had smartly dubbed the “Batcomputer” – just as he had christened the cave “the Batcave” and Batman’s endless supply of cars “the Batmobiles”. Footage of the sixteenth of March, 2016 played in loops on many of the screens; Omni-Man’s sinister plans for Earth had come as a shock to everyone, and even more so when he nearly killed his son on live television. Bruce was no doubt torturing himself over it. Although it had happened nearly a year ago, thousands upon thousands of people died during Omni-Man and Invincible’s battle, and Bruce, who had worked with the former in the past, likely blamed himself for not seeing through the Viltrumite’s deception sooner. And so he was doing what Bruce did best: brood, all while trying his best to ensure that he was ready for when Omni-Man returned… and for if Invincible decided to embody the saying, “Like father, like son.”

“Dick,” said Bruce, turning away from the Batcomputer, “I… Alfred didn’t tell me you were visiting.”

“Wasn’t a planned visit.” Dick started as he neared the Batcomputer. “Watching Invincible’s throw down with the big bad papa again?” He asked with a raised eyebrow before shaking his head. He knew that no matter how many times Bruce watched the footage, the ‘World’s Greatest Detective’ would always discover something new.

“I got bored after the thirteenth time. It’s not a very engaging movie.” The voice of Jason Todd interjected from a few feet over with wrench in hand, fiddling with the motorcycle that was in front of him.

“It was pretty engaging being there.” Dick smirked as he let out a low whistle at the sight of the new Red Bird. Turning back to Bruce, Dick addressed him directly.

“I need your help.” Dick stated flatly as he cut to the chase. “Raven’s been taken, Kori too.”

“What can I do?” asked Bruce, his face the impassive mask he’d mastered over the years. But Dick knew the man better than either of them liked to admit, so he could see, somewhere deep within his eyes, some semblance of emotion… concern.

“I need to get to Latveria.” Dick replied, as he looked over towards the Batwing. “Was hoping you might be able to help me out.”

“Of course,” said Bruce, “Take the Batwing.” His concern became more apparent, his brows slightly furrowing. “Be careful in Latveria, Dick. Victor von Doom is not someone you want to anger.”

“Yeah, isn’t it like “illegal by death of disintegration” or something to fuck around with Latverian affairs?”

“Something like that, Jason.” Dick said with a smirk as he turned back to Bruce. “I could really use you both with me. There’s no way to know what I’ll find there, I did just come from battling demons with Jason Blood.”

“Well, if the Batwing is at risk of being “disintegrated” I should probably come. To make sure it stays in one piece and isn’t dismantled by big green’s engineers. You know, just in case.” A wry smirk met Jason’s lips as he finished up the current repairs and modifications on the motorcycle.

“Got to keep some family secrets.” Dick added with a smirk as he looked towards Bruce. “So how about it? Are you coming?”

“I can’t,” said Bruce. “There’s too many things that could go wrong while I’m gone, and I’m not going to leave it up to Bette to take care of them.”

“What about the other Titans? They can’t all be too busy to rescue two founding members, right?”

“Arsenal’s in Russia. You could pick him up on the way. I’ll send his coordinates to the Batwing.”

“This thing hypersonic?” Dick asked as he looked up to the Batwing. “Detour to Russia wouldn’t take too long I suppose. I wonder what kind of trouble Roy found himself in to end up there.”

Ω T I M E L I N E:

◼ 1910's | Reports of an Amazonian woman joining the fight alongside several American soldiers is regarded as a legend. The woman was said to fight with the strength of a demi-god and paved the way for several decisive victories.

◼ 1940's | Using the research of nazi defector, Abraham Erskine, the United States establishes Project Rebirth to combat the increasing influence of Hitler’s pseudo-science division, HYDRA. A young man named Steve Rogers becomes the sole recipient of the project. Dubbed Captain America by the war propaganda, Steve Rogers is heralded as the first true superhuman. Seeing the influence of Captain America on war morale leads to the creation of a team of other enhanced beings (known by the moniker of ‘Meta-Humans’) shortly after the Captain disappears in a battle over the Northern Atlantic. This team is known as the All-Star Squadron and helps repel the Axis Forces ensuring the victory of the Allied Forces that Captain America had worked for.

◼ 1950's | With no war to fight, the All-Star Squadron is disbanded but in its wake a new group formed consisting of both new and old members alike. This group pledged to fit injustices at home and was thus dubbed the Justice Society of America. While publicly the government embraced America's newest protectors, the Strategic Scientific Reserve is resurrected before being re-branded as the Advanced Research Group Uniting Super-Humans.

◼ 1960's | In the midst of the Cold War, a new humanoid race emerges known as the Homo-Superior or to the layman, ‘mutants’. Using the mutant scare as a distraction, the terrorist cell known as H.Y.D.R.A. re-emerges for the first time since the days of Captain America. Following an attack on the United States, the President of the United States is killed. This spurs the formation of a new government agency called the Strategic Homeland Intervention, Enforcement and Logistics Divison, or simply S.H.I.E.L.D.

◼ 1970's | After years of conflicts with H.Y.D.R.A., the organization’s end seems nigh when the collaboration between SHIELD and international agencies leads them to the supposed headquarters of their enemy within Southeast Asia on the island of Madripoor. H.Y.D.R.A. is allegedly defeated, although S.H.I.E.L.D.'s victory is a loss for the J.S.A. The public opinion of mutants had been warped, in part, by religious extremists calling themselves the “Purifiers”. They had used their numbers to cause anti-mutant sentiment which ignited a series of civil rights riots. By extension this fear became of all superhumans leading to a mandated disbandment of the Justice Society of America.

◼ 1980's | The gene responsible for the development of mutant powers in certain individuals is isolated and is dubbed the “x-gene”. Further study by the larger scientific community concedes that without a doubt is the cause of displays of power in random youths and adults. An academic by the name of Charles Xavier attempts to mediate but his efforts are ineffective to prevent what would happen in years to come.

◼ 1990's | Charles Xavier founds the Institute for Higher Learning in North Salem, New York. In the following years, the “Fantastic Four” shuttle launch occurs originating in the test site owned by Reed Richards’ Future Foundation, a non-profit organization dedicated to bringing the smartest minds together for the advancement of science. Due to problems with a quantum accelerator tied into what Susan Storm dubs “The Negative Zone” cosmic radiation erupts and changes them and two others drastically. Elsewhere in the world, Victor von Doom restores the nation of Latveria after procuring weapons and technologies through diplomacy and his own genius intellect following the fall of the Soviet Union.

◼ 2000's | An alien race known only as the Dominators turns their eyes towards Earth attacking in a curb stomp battle that decimated Earth's defenses. In response, A.R.G.U.S. assembled several scouted assets to create a counter force that the media would dub Earth’s Avengers. In the aftermath of the attack, public opinion of superhumans began to turn positive for the first time in nearly thirty years. Believing that public safety should not be soley in the hands of the government, a spiritual successor to the J.S.A. is formed, dubbed the Justice League. Unlike the Avengers whose actions are controlled by A.R.G.U.S., The Justice League acts independent, intervening where necessary. This earns them the hearts of America as the League becomes adored.

◼ 2010's | Worried about the Justice League's seemingly continuous growth, A.R.G.U.S. begins the Young Justice Initiative in order to recruit and train young super humans. In response, the Justice League allows their own young heroes to band together under the banner of the 'Titans'. These teenage heroes often find themselves in rivalry with the Young Justice members leading to a rivalry between not only these two teenage teams but also a third party known only as the X-Men.

P R E M I S E:

After nearly a month of heavy rain that has left meteorologists baffled at its cause, Crescent City is in a state of pandemonium. Flooding from both the coast and the internal rivers have stretched not only emergency services but also civilian volunteers to their limit as they fight back against the downpour. Numerous areas of the city have been evacuated as more and more people are driven from their homes by the seemingly never ceasing waters.

However there are those who have taken advantage of this situation. Evacuated areas are constantly being raided by criminals and those who have been driven by desperation to break the law in order to survive. Due to dealing with the natural crisis at hand, there’s few spare officers to deal with the rising crime wave. As such, numerous individuals have decided to stand up for the victims of the city while others have noticed how unnatural the rain besieging the city is and have begun to hunt for the cause of the torrential downfall.

L O C A L H I S T O R I C A L T I M E L I N E:

1783 – In the year of 1783 Sir Eduard De La Cruz and his ship the Los Paraíso became shipwrecked along the coast of what would eventually become Del Norte County, California. Managing to make it to shore along with his crew and most of his provisions, Sir Eduard refused to give up the duties bestowed upon him by the king. Moving forward with what they could the former crew of the Los Paraíso set up a settlement eventually forming alliances with the locals and making contact with other Spanish Colonization efforts to move forward with the construction of a mission. Expanding a presidio off the monastery, the settlement named after the ship which carried Sir Eduard and the crew to the New World eventually grew into a full pueblo. This pueblo would of course endure the ages going on to become the city of Los Paraíso.

1849 – Shortly after becoming a state in the young country of the United States of America, the fever of the California Gold Rush brought prospective prospectors north of Los Paraíso where they began to search for gold among the mountainous range known as the Demon’s Teeth. As more ‘Forty-Niners’ came, another settlement was built at the base of the mountains. These ‘Forty-Niners’ were led by William Murdoch, who became the growing town’s first mayor naming it Kilbride after his ancestral home. However the name became eerily accurate when William's son, Alastair murdered his own bride on their wedding night. The incident brought shame to the Murdoch name while the other two founding families, Faulkner and Fitzroy went on to be incredible successful in the city. Legend holds that Alastair tried to bury his bride in the bog outside of town, but her spirit lived on returning to torture the younger Murdoch and supposedly drove him to insanity.

1852 – In the year of 1852, the mines in Kilbride began to bring more people to the North of California. Travel was made easier with the construction of the Port of Lilith. Built between both Kilbride and Los Paraíso, the port made it easy for travellers to venture north towards the mines or south into the thriving city of Los Paraíso. The Port of Lilith was named after a group of superstitious workers pointed out the large variety and population of snakes in the area.

1893 – In 1893, tragedy befell the Port of Lilith as a fire consumed the town burning most of it to the ground. Hundreds of lives were lost as the center of the town was consumed almost immediately by the blaze. The cause of the fire remained a mystery and to this day is a favourite subject among historians who love to debate the cause of the fire.

1900 - The mines in Kilbride see a revival only instead of gold, oil and coal were found causing Kilbride to shift in industry as it became a producer of power for the cities along the coast. Going through a sort of ‘Industrial Revolution’, Kilbride saw a spike in population as the new coal mines and factories brought an influx of workers to the city along with struggling citizens of what was left of New Lilith.

1913 – The remains of Lilith are taken on as a pet project of a British architect by the name of Winston Standford looking to make a name for himself. Using the Gothic revival moment as his muse, Standford crafted the city into a towering monolith of stone over the next decade. Renamed to reflect its new lease, New Lilith took the place of the port and in the coming years would grow to rival both Kilbride and Los Paraíso.

1930 – As the film industry began to take off and the Los Angeles area known as Hollywood became more expensive, smaller film makers and studios began to look elsewhere for places to set up shop. Many of these found a home in settlement south of New Lilith, the area that had become known as Los Paraíso. While Los Paraíso would never become Hollywood, it would become a home to many successful small film companies along with wineries.

1942 – The attack on Pearl Harbor led to a military presence within the three cities. An airbase was set up on the northern outskirts of New Lilith. Industry began to further flourish in Kilbride as several factories were quickly converted to produce weapons and munitions. Film facilities in Los Paraíso were used to create and distribute numerous propaganda films and other forms of media to help rally potential troops to enter the war.

1992 – The three cities had grown so much that property line debates had become an issue slowing down the local courts. As such, a proposition was made to combine the three under one banner. This vote was held in each city’s town hall and has the highest recorded turnout of eligible voters. Despite the vote winning, it was by a narrow majority and is often regarded as a controversial decision. Although the city was officially named Crescent City, the original urban divisions still hang onto their individual names for the most part but the government, athletic teams and emergency services have been joined under the Crescent City banner.

PRESENT – The city is currently in the middle of a mayoral election and tensions are running high due both to the rising crime rates and the current natural disasters. Poverty has begun to set in as the fluctuating economy has caused many layoffs in conjecture with many new automated systems reducing the number of laborers required to run many of Crescent City’s facilities.

W O R L D H I S T O R Y:

C A T A L Y S T || 1967-1984

On October 18, 1967, Earth was hit with an immense Coronal Mass Ejection. During a total Lunar Eclipse, the sun emitted a massive interplanetary CME which doused the entire globe with high energy particles causing the largest and brightest occurrence of the aurorae ever recorded. Unfortunately this also brought a geomagnetic storm which ravaged Earth’s electrical transmission lines, causing power outages on a global scale. It was on this day that the Earth nearly stood still, sitting in total darkness for nearly ten minutes before back up systems began to re-activate. Numerous regions around the globe were left in the dark well beyond that. Cities were powerless for nearly a week while some rural areas were forced to survive for nearly a month without power. This event left a death toll numbering in the tens of thousands becoming known as the Dark Eclipse.

However the aftermath of the Dark Eclipse reached far further than anyone could have ever anticipated. The resulting effect of the high energy particles is a mutation appearing in one of every hundred thousand people. While public knowledge of the mutation remains vague, selected sects in the scientific community are aware of it and have dubbed the emergence of the mutation ‘Viriumosis’. In more common jargon, the possession of a mutation is referred to as the ‘Hype-Factor’ or ‘Hype-Gene’. Collectively, these mutants are referred to as ‘Hyperhumans’.


E M E R G E N C E || 1985-1999

As the Cold War came to a close, humanity’s attention was turned to a new threat. One that was already in their homes, teaching their children and running their governments. As word of Hyperhumans became public knowledge a perpetual state of fear and paranoia took hold of the world. Neighbor was turned against neighbor and mother against child as humanity’s pattern of fearing that which they didn’t understand continued.

Propaganda against Hyperhumans was widespread especially in North America. Laws were passed that prohibited Hyperhumans from positions of authority on suspicion of using their abilities to gain an advantage. Athletes and other competition driven professions were heavily screened. Although there were those who chose to use Hyperhumans to their own advantage and more than one man or woman desperate to make a living allowed themselves to be drawn into the shadier side of things.

Activism and social conscious was pushed to an all time high during this period as people fought to be treated as equals no matter their colour, sexuality and abilities. Technology took leaps and bounds during this period as Hyperhumans with more subtle abilities were able to integrate into society and excel through their education and in their careers.


V I G I L A N C E || 2000-Present

Due to the emergence of Hyperhumans during the late 80’s, technology advanced at a rapid rate. The majority of Earth’s power is based upon nuclear fusion with coal based energy completely phased out greatly reducing the amount of pollution present in Earth’s atmosphere. Roughly sixty-five percent of power is supplied by nuclear fusion while other clean energy make up the remaining thirty-five percent. Solar power makes up the majority of the secondary energy sources clocking in at twenty-five percent while wind makes up only five percent. The last five percent of energy sources is mixed between nuclear fission, hydroelectric and geothermal power.

Other advances in technology are rather notable among society. As of 2010, three dimensional screens or holographic displays have become commonplace among consumer homes while the self-driving car has been made available to the public market as of 2015. Despite the original fear of Hyperhumans, advances in both law and peace keeping technology has thus far kept any major superpowered crime at bay. Robotic K9 units along with autonomous patrol cars and synthetic officers have become the standard especially among large cities.

Cal has a slender frame that is covered in compacted muscle built up from years of training and toning his body. He torso and legs are built like someone who regularly competes in marathons and free running competition while his arms and shoulders are built more like that of a boxer mixed with a martial artist. Cal prides himself on being more balanced in his physique and as such as kept his flexibility and somewhat slender frame despite his well chiseled biceps and abdominal. Cal is especially known for his keen piercing blue eyes. Deep Blue with flecks of icy blue strewn throughout, Cal's eyes are known for being able to look right through someone as though he is staring into their soul. Cal has deep brown hair with strands of gold and auburn acting as natural highlights, these are most visible in bright light where as in dim and barely lit places, Cal's hair can seem to be almost black. He keeps his hair anywhere from a short to medium length, often grooming it into various ways.

Cal's general attire ranges from long sleeve mock tees to hoodies usually. Always paired with loose or boot-cut, dark-wash jeans. In collaboration with these, Cal prefers to wear semi loose fitting tops in an effort to hide his more chiseled physique so as not to draw too much attention to himself. To that end he often will wear a t-shirt paired with a hoodie and jacket, or a long-sleeved shirt adorned with a hood and a jacket. Depending on the weather though Cal may wear just a t-shirt, or just a long sleeved mock tee. Often his outfit is complimented with a leather jacket.

This grants him the potential to understand and utilize anything from information, theories, skills, riddles, logic, and puzzles, to the structure and operation of complex systems, codes without special education or training. Under the proper circumstance, Cal can instantly learn and understand the complexity and exactness of organisms, and objects. His unrivaled intuition, also called discernment or Instinct, allows Cal to simply "just know" personal information about an object, subject, or occurrence, including sensing how others will react to something that the user does or when something is about to happen. This ability is innate and cannot be turned off. This ability allows the user to intuit spiritual truths and principles (sensing the presence of evil/danger/people that dislike Cal, a feeling that he should or shouldn’t go somewhere, or knowing the right thing to do or say in any situation); this faculty is called Gnosis. When Cal observes any concept, he is able to understand it completely if enough information is present. When Cal wants information/knowledge he can acquire it instantly and use what he has learned perfectly. If Cal comes into contact with any piece of “information” that is wrong, he will intuitively know this and can discern what is correct and what is wrong.

EMPATHETIC MIMICRY: Empathic mimicry is the ability to duplicate the abilities of other Hyperhumans within proximity and reproduce them at will. This ability however requires Cal to be able to create an empathetic link with those who have the ability he wishes to mimic. As such, this ability is easiest to utilize among allies but Cal is able to to replicate the abilities of his foes with extensive research and study. Often if Cal can understand the motives and ambitions of his rogues, he can get instead their heads allowing him to use their own abilities against them. In conjunction with his Intuitive Aptitude, Cal can rapidly learn how to use the mimicked abilities rapidly, especially from studying their owners. It should be noted that Cal can only mimic one ability at a time and mimicking another will replace the previous ability.

Cal's father always attributed this particular trait to Cal's mother who also possessed the ability. This ability however does not extend to skills especially those picked up by Cal's intuitive aptitude. Cal's known for having keen eyes which are rarely ever still. Cal's eyes are constantly shifting back and forth as he takes in and memorizes his surroundings. Not only does he do it by sight but by sound and smell as well. His skills of observation are uncanny, especially when combined with eidetic memory. This skill greatly contributes to his prowess in the field of mentalism as well as his substantial deduction skills. When Cal was younger, it was his mother who taught him to always keep his eyes open and be continuously be aware of his surroundings.

MENTALISM: Caleb has very highly developed mental and intuitive abilities. The ability to read body language heavily contributes to this, Caleb can even listen to heartbeats, and will often take a hold of his target by their wrist to gauge their heartbeats. Another ability that contributes to Cal's mentalism, is his ability to observe and remember every detail in a room, or his surroundings, even details that may seem insignificant at first. With the use of all this, Caleb is able to apply his mentalism to subliminally manipulate his subjects, or even psychological influence them. Cal's use of mentalism can lead to people mistaking him for psychic, something which he tires of hearing as he doesn't believe in magic. Though he has used this to his advantage before.

DEDUCTION: A natural at isolating patterns and summoning conclusions from a variety of facts and figures, Cal is able to solve various mysteries, and rather enjoys doing so. This makes him somewhat invasive as Cal seems to crave to solve almost anything that someone else regards as a secret. Cal makes special use of this skill when looking over his mother's old case files, especially due to the fact his mother taught him the skills.

STRATEGIST: Caleb has always had a natural gift for strategy whether through playing Chess with his grandfather and father as a child or reading the Art of War. His ability to read people and predict their actions has also helped. One summer, Landon roped Cal into helping him coach a little league football team and Cal was easily able to ensure victory for each game much to Landon's surprise as Cal had never picked up a football in his life. Caleb can think for either himself whether in combat or simply planning ahead, known both for issuing quick orders on his feet and for laying out an elaborate scheme in advance.

PICKPOCKET: Light and fast with his hands, Cal's dexterity with tools transfer over to his hands making him a skilled pickpocket. Normally he doesn't use this skill but he decided to hone it for situations when he needs keys to get into places he normally otherwise couldn't. Once again, this was a skill his mother had taught him.

GADGETEER: Cal is highly skilled at designing and building all manner of items, ranging from a homemade motorized skateboard to a highly versatile disc like weapon. Cal's skills are fully attributed to both his intuitive aptitude and the skills he absorbed from his father. These skills allow him to come up with various concepts, visualize the design and construct it either out of the necessary parts or recommission what he has to emulate the desired result. Showing aptitude with a wide number of electronics, especially computers, Cal is quite successful with handling and working on almost any piece of technology he comes across. Proficient with writing code, soldering circuit boards, hacking and a great manner of other technological skills. Cal is capable with a wide variety of tools and is easily able to figure out those which he has never used. As such Cal can build a wide number of mechanical devices however his skills falter when it comes to wood working. This is because Cal has never encountered or learned from someone who specializes in this area and as such won't be furnishing the Mavericks' base with rustic chairs and tables anytime soon. Generally however, Cal is a competent with working with metals and electronics.

KICKBOXING: From the age of eight, Cal has been participating in kickboxing as a form of exercise and an outlet. Now entering his twenties, Cal has developed into a very strong combatant especially due to his practical training on the streets of Larissa over the last four years.

STAFF COMBAT: While Cal had an idea on how to use a baton, he has been forced to teach himself the use of a staff having originally wanted a non-lethal weapon while on the streets. As such over the last four years, Cal has been developing his skill with the weapon while learning what he can of singlestick, quarterstaff, la canne, bata, gun and bojutsu.

NUN-CHUKA: Wanting to be even more versatile, Cal's modification to the Kenobi eventually led to it taking on nun-chuk like traits. As such, Cal was forced to study the skills and techniques associated with the weapon and while he's still something of a novice, the skills are paying off.

GUN HANDLING: Ever since he was young, Cal has been around guns due to his mother. When he reached the age of ten, she began to instruct him in their use, taking him to various ranges and honing his skills. While in the field Cal may carry his mother's Glock, his preferred firearm is the Picard, a nonlethal weapon that uses all the same principles as most traditional firearms.


MARTIAL SKILLS: During his time with the Black Lotus Society, Cal was trained in the Society's martial discipline. This training exposed Cal to numerous forms of martial arts, weapon handling and combat strategies turning him into an effective combatant and soldier. The key element in the Society's discipline is the user of Vis energy to propel and strengthen the user's blows and movements. However as these strikes and blows were intended for killing movements, Cal holds back on using this element of combat in his strikes. However, he does use the Vis to boost his movement and defense allowing him to jump higher, run faster and otherwise hold his own in against even Hyperhuman opponents.

Through the Society's training, Cal has experience with both conventional and exotic weapons. It was during this period of his life he became skilled with the chakram, staff and nun-chuka. This training also further honed Cal's ability as a marksman, a skill originally introduced to him by his mother who would bring Cal along to the police shooting range on weekends. It was his experience with various firearms under the instruction of the Society that encouraged Cal to design the Picard upon starting his vigilante career.[/INDENT]{/SLIDE}

LIMITATIONS: Cal's intuitive aptitude has the drawback of making Cal obsessed with constantly learning more. This can lead to Cal having little respect for personal boundaries and intruding on private information. While his intuitive aptitude can in fact give Cal a perfect understanding of some concepts, most of these concepts have to fairly straight forward. More advanced techniques require an accumulation of information but Cal will have a 'gut feeling' to work on as opposed to clarity. In some situations, Cal's intuitive aptitude can lead to an information overload, either from continual use or large amounts of information at once. If overloaded, Cal can become disorientated or slip into a painful migraine. At other times, he can almost become drunk off of information, slurring his speech in addition to be disorientated or even giddy. The greatest limitation of intuitive aptitude is that even if Cal has absorbed everything necessary to know on a subject or skill, Cal can still forget this information once the use has passed. This means that Cal will have to relearn any skills that are not used on a consistent basis, although they do come easier each subsequent time.

In addition to this, Cal's second ability of Empathetic Mimicry comes with its own set of limitations. The first barrier for Cal to overcome is that he needs to learn how the user feels when accessing their abilities. Depending on the individual this may be very difficult, due to concealed emotions or extreme apathy. On this note if Cal allows his emotions to change or become unbalanced he'll lose the ability to access the mimicked abilities.

Cal's Empathetic Mimicry only works on those within a limited proximity, generally this proximity is limited to other Hyperhumans within visual range. Walls and other obstructions can reduce the range to which Cal can mimic abilities from with the exclusion of team mates and allies with whom Cal has formed a personal relationship. In this case, if Cal is aware of their location, so long as they aren't too far out of range he can still access their abilities. Lastly Cal can only mimic Hyperhuman abilities for a limited time, or until he swaps for a new ability. Swapping between too many powers will leave Cal drained and vulnerable, possibly even rendering him unconscious or comatose.

WEAKNESSES: Cal's primary weakness is information overload. This extends to both his Intuitive Aptitude and Empathetic Mimicry. Cal's body will literally shut down if he forces himself to learn or mimic too many skills or abilities in a short period. Constantly swapping abilities is very draining on Cal's body and more than three abilities within a single battle will drain him leaving him severely weakened. If Cal pushed himself beyond this he can be rendered unconscious or even comatose depending on the additional abilities and their drain on his body. Outside of this, Cal is still human and a well placed bullet will kill him. It should be noted that Cal inherits all the weaknesses of the abilities he mimics, whether he wants to or not.

  • The primary application of Cal's abilities is turning his opponents abilities back on them. This is particularly useful against opponents whose abilities give them a notable advantage against Cal and his allies.


  • Due to the emotional connection that Cal requires to mimic abilities, he's become an excellent profiler. By profiling foes, Cal becomes an expert at getting in the heads of his enemies, often times being able to talk them down without having to physically fight them.


  • With his Intuitive Aptitude, Cal is able to learn numerous skills on the fly. This is useful for understanding new obstacles encountered in the field or even for learning an opponents fighting style.

CUSTOM FIRE ARM ('The Picard'): Originally built using pieces from a nail gun and a handgun, Cal designed a series of darts which administer an electrical charge that stimulates the nerves to create the sensation of pain from a gun shot without doing any lasting damage to the victim. The gun adheres to Cal's thigh armor using magnetism, he uses the same technology in his gloves allowing him to maintain a firm grip on his weapon as well as easily retrieve it from his hip or pull it back to him if he were to loose his grip on it.

RIOT GUN ('Vera'): Essentially a standard issue grenade launcher, Cal has modified with non lethal rounds and uses it to dispense smoke, teargas and pepper spray rounds. Additionally it can be equipped with impact rounds which are filled with rubber pellets that spray the target or targets.

TELESCOPIC STAFF ('The Kenobi'): A staff composed of two sections which are firmly held together by a spool of triple threaded high tension wire. While Cal primarily uses the weapon as one piece, it can be manipulated for a variety of uses thanks to the ability to pull apart. It can be used as a flail, nun-chuka, grapple and more. Each end is able to administer a high voltage shock which makes the weapon particularly brutal. The coiled cable is spring loaded, enabling Cal to actually fire the staff as an impact weapon or to surprise a foe who thought they were out of reach. Additionally, each end has secondary expansion which Cal can use to vault himself or once again enhance his striking power. In it's single piece assembly, the staff is 30" long, which each end capable of extending an additional 6". Within the staff, the spool of wire holds 8' worth of thread which allows the weapon to be used as a last resort grapple

CHAKRAM ('Quorra'): Cal's primary weapon is a custom built Chakram which is linked to his 'Glitch Device' allowing him to either throw it manually or control it remotely through the device. The Chakram is able to freely sustain itself in the air through rotating inner discs which can also tilt to allow the Chakram to steer itself. On top of this, the Chakram is able to generate an electrical field to give off a devastating shock upon contact, further more through use of the 'Glitch Device' the Chakram can be programmed for a chain lightning like attack. The Chakram's edge is partially retractable, as it retracts its razor edge in order to avoid harm to the wrong people but the edge is extended when the Chakram needs to be used strategically. The Chakram can also be recalled at anytime through the use of the 'Glitch Device'.

SHURIKENS: Although mostly used as distraction devices, Cal employs a variety of shurikens. Some are modified for additional effects such as nerve stimulants akin to his gun's rounds, toxins which can inflict temporary paralysis or even exploding shurikens which can stagger larger opponents, emit various smoke, gases or even act as a flash bang.

FLASHLIGHT: Cal keeps a high-powered LED flashlight on his utility belt. Despite having a small size, the handle is weighted enough to be used as a small weapon, on top of that, the front of the flashlight can act like a tazer with hidden electrodes that can give a sharp zap if one were to use it as a prod.

ZIP TIES: Standard law enforcement issued zip ties, Cal uses carries enough of them to subdue quite a few criminals in one night. Without a rather sharp knife they are incredibly difficult to get off.

PEPPER SPRAY: Standard law enforcement issued pepper spray. Can easily temporarily blind most opponents with a rather harsh attack to the face.

SMOKE BOMBS: Homemade smoke bombs which when broken open such as by being thrown against the floor or the wall, give off a thick cloud of sulfur smelling smoke. This can provide a variable amount of cover depending on the air flow in the area.

FOAM BOMBS: Small pellets filled with an adhesive which rapidly expands upon exposure to the air. This foam is highly resilient to blunt force and can take hours to chisel away at with blade objects as well. Excellent for immobilizing foes or even providing a cushion for a runaway car. Once fully expanded the foam will begin to harden and in eight hours will eventually crumble. A solvent is kept on IllAdvised's belt in the event the foam needs to be broken down sooner.

PLASTIQUE: Plastique is a soft and malleable form of explosive material. Within the field of explosives engineering, plastic explosives are also known as putty explosives. Cal carries a small amount on his belt which he can use to blow open walls or cause distractions depending on how he uses it.

TOOLS: Cal carries a small assortment of tools on his belt, primarily three smaller multi-tools which contain an assortment of tools including screwdrivers, pliers, and other useful tools.

TACTICAL KNIFE: A sharp blade capable of slicing through a multitude of materials. Cal uses this to get out of literally binds and sometimes as a last resort melee weapon.

GLOCK 34: Cal's hand pistol, a Glock 34, which is worn on his right thigh on a second belt which is linked to his main utility belt is the former side arm of his mother before her death. Cal mainly uses the weapon as an intimidation factor but will resort to it if he absolutely has to. In many ways, he carries it more as a tribute to his mother and less as a weapon.

OLYMPUS OM-D E-M1: Cal carries a top of the line digital with a variety of interchangeable lenses that provide Cal various effects, distances and ranges in his photography.

CUSTOM TABLET: Cal carries around a customized tablet computer which easily dwarfs the processing power of most top of the line laptop. Cal uploaded his own custom Operating System, Glitch, into the tablet. Cal also carries a variety of portable hardware such as a disk drive which he plug into the tablet.

'GLITCH' DEVICE: Cal's trademark piece of equipment. The 'Glitch Device' combines the best features of a superphone and a tablet, allowing it to be used as either. Like Cal's customized tablet, the Glitch Device runs on the Glitch Operating Systems and is home to the Glitch Artificial Intelligence prototype. Due to its size, Cal wears the Glitch Device strapped to the underside of his left forearm. In his IllAdvised costume, he adds some armor to it but still wears the device on the underside of his left forearm.

THE RAPTOR: A heavily modified Can-Am Spyder, the Raptor is Cal's main choice of transportation for quick missions, especially those involving the team. Having taken the Raptor apart and rebuilt it more times than he would care to admit, Cal has upgraded the machine to levels of performance only dreamed about by her manufacturers. The Raptor is capable of transforming into an aquatic mode, allow Cal to fly across bodies of water in a manner not unlike that of a jet ski. Furthermore, the Raptor is equipped to scale buildings and has retractable stabilizers which in conjunction with a pair of afterburners allow it to jump from roof to roof in areas that can support the small vehicle. The Raptor is equipped with an electromagnetic gyro which creates a field that can deflect gunfire away from both the vehicle and the rider. Equipped with a sonic weapon, the Raptor can be a great aid in quelling small aggressive groups of non-Hyperhumans. Unfortunately due to its size, Cal only has room for a single passenger. Like all of his gear, the Raptor is equipped with an onboard computer for Glitch to interface with, allowing her direct control of the vehicle.

THE PREDATOR: Like the Raptor, the Predator is a heavily modified vehicle. Unlike the Raptor however, the Predator is modified from a Dodge Ram Crew Cab. Heavily armored and weaponized, the Predator features a full sized crew cab which can hold nearly the entire Maverick's team. The truck's bed is extended in length, necessitating a third wheel axle giving the Predator a total of six wheels. These rear wheels are capable of turning, allowing Cal to maneuver the vehicle in ways that make it far more agile than it would appear. The truck bed is covered, and interlocks with the rest of the vehicle, however Cal has actually built three different bed varieties which the Predator is capable of swapping between. These beds include a mobile base for stakeouts or in the event the main base is compromised, an emergency response unit, complete with medical supplies for taking care of wounded civilians and lastly the most commonly used bed is the mobile garage for the Raptor allowing for field deployment.

The Predator like the Raptor makes use of an electromagnetic field to deflect most conventional firearms, however the body of the truck is wrapped in reactive armor, which ablative generators for dealing with heavier threats. The truck's engine is completely designed by Cal who increased the output so that even the deceiving looking hulk of a truck can do zero to sixty miles per hour in just two and a half seconds. The truck also carries two concealed mini-guns which fire rubber bullets allowing the Predator to act as a riot suppression vehicle. It also has a winch on the front, mounted just behind its Pursuit Intervention Bumper and Bullbar. Like the Raptor, the Predator is able to be directly controlled by Glitch.

DODGE CHALLENGER: A brand new Dodge Challenger, although black like IllAdvised's chosen vehicles, this particular car is Cal's civilian ride. Aside from slight tuning and body work, the car is rather unmodified. Although Cal has integrated Glitch into it as well meaning she can control the Challenger the same as any of his other vehicles.

Cal wears a uniform composed of tri weave titanium dipped fiber. In addition to that, the suit contains ceramic plates over the chest, back, thighs, shins and forearms. These ceramic plates are made of a combination of ablative and reactice armor allowing impacts and blows to be spread along the entirity of the surface thus minmizing harm to Cal. Likewise his helmet is composed of similar materials plus Kevlar. The entire suit has a layer of Nomex to reduce harm from heat and fire as well as being insulated against electrical attacks. The suit contains a light exoskeleton which increases Cal's durability, strength and speed by a factor of two which allows him to give toe to toe with some of the more minor superhumans.

In the case of severe injury such as a broken or dislocated limb, the suit automatically tightens around the limb to create a torquette, and can additionally directly inject pain killers into Cal's bloodstream. The suit consists of wrist mounted, grappling lines and tazer charges imbedded in the knuckles. Both the forearm and shin have scallopped blades along the side and the palms of the gloves as well as the soles of the boots have retractable climbing spikes. On either side of the ankles as well as the back are small thrusters which allow Cal to boost his jumps as well as several other purposes. Implanted in the center of the suit's chest is an electromagentic gyroscope which activates with the loud bang caused by firearms. This device produces an electromagnetic field which deflects bullets under .45 caliber away from Cal. The downside of the device is that it possibly endangers any surrounding allies.

Cal's cowl contains an elaborate Heads Up Display which allows him to monitor his vitals, as well as scan those of his teammates and even foes. This HUD can also identify and locate clues, evidence, ballistics paths etc during an investigation along with the use of several other tools on Cal's utility belt. The cowl also naturally contains a voice modifier, air filtration and headset. Cal's suit also contains several hidden speakers which allow Cal to create distractions with sound or to simply blast his favourite tunes in battle. His forearm armor also contains holographic emitters allowing for a holographic interface and display wherever he's standing. The suit's electronics run on a self sustaining battery core, while this core regulates its own recharge rate it's able to use the kinetic energy produced by motion to up its recharge rate increasing the difficulty in draining the core while in combat.

The various utility belts that Cal wear hold numerous tools such as flash bangs, smoke pellets, an acidic compound to eat through metals such as locks or hinges, an adhesive and solvent, zip ties, forensics tools, a first aid kit and various forms of currency just in case. Naturally, Cal also keeps a several varieties of tool kits on his belts allowing him to be able to fully use his abilities in the field.

Born just after dusk, one warm summer evening in the August of 1994, Caleb Richard Eugene Maddox was delivered into the loving arms of his parents Richard and Regina Maddox. The son of a successful inventor and a renowned police detective, Caleb lived a fairly normal if not somewhat spoiled childhood. Growing up, Caleb proved to be a prodigy from a young age, quickly learning and grasping new concepts much faster than others his age. This prodigious nature ensured Caleb would receive the best education money could buy as his entire family took a vested interest in the young boy’s life. Caleb’s mother Regina was the daughter of Eugene ‘Ewan’ Fitzroy, one of the richest men in Larissa and a direct descendant of the city’s original founding families. Like Caleb, Regina was an only child making Caleb the direct descendant to his grandfather’s fortune in the event of his passing.

Growing up, Caleb was very close to his parents. Enjoying several traditions with one another, the trio always made sure to put aside whatever business they had each week for a Friday night dinner and movie. It was family outings like this that shaped Cal’s outlook on life, at least they did until his abduction. Due to Caleb’s academic performance, he attracted many college recruiters especially due to his accelerated course load. Enrolled in the Larissa Collegiate Institute at the age of twelve, Caleb was set to graduate by the age of sixteen. A college recruiter from the Sovereign University of Hegemony approached the Maddox’s, inviting Caleb to a private tour of their campus nestled in the Russian foothills of the Altai Mountains. With the offer of a full paid scholarship abroad, Caleb took a great deal of interest and eventually convinced his parents to allow him to take the invitation.

Flying overseas to Russia, Caleb was introduced to Zhang Jun, his mentor for the weekend. Or at least so Caleb believed until his ‘weekend’ became nearly three long years. The Sovereign University of Hegemony turned out to be a cover for the ancient cult known as the Black Lotus Society. Obsessed with creating a strong, dominant ruling class, the Black Lotus Society targeted the upper class’s heirs and inducted them into its ranks. Many of its recruits were often willing, however those who weren’t were put through an excruciating trial often mentally breaking them in order to brainwash them into the Society.

Richard and Regina were sent a letter from the University informing them that Caleb had been killed during an excursion to the mountains, the body lost during an avalanche. Mourning the loss of their son, the pair never thought to question the letter and tried to move on with their lives. Caleb’s death was the last nail in the coffin for Regina who was already disillusioned with her contribution to Larissa’s police force. Resigning, she handed in her gun and badge and went into private investigations while Richard buried himself into his inventions, focussing his efforts on an artificial intelligence operating system.

-Realizing the goals of the BLS, Cal plots his escape and eventually successfully does so. Stealing away home in the cargo hold of a jet. His return to Larissa is hailed as a miracle but it's not without consequences as Jun puts a hit on Richard and Regina to force Cal back to them.

-Poisoning Cal's parents, Cal finds himself in a race against time to stop his parent's death. Regina unknowingly poisoned is put on a bust and ends up disorientated and weakened. She is shot and nearly beaten to death before Cal arrives and defends her. Regina later dies in her son's arms.

-With Regina gone, Cal races to intercept Richard's attacker. Arriving in the nick of time, Cal is able to stop Richard from ingesting the total dose. As such the poison isn't enough to be lethal but leaves Richard in a comatose state.

-Cal tracks Jun down using the skills he acquired from the BLS.

-Cal gains the upper hand in combat due to his Hyperhuman abilities and is forced to kill Jun.

-Devastated at having to take a life, Cal returns to his father's side just in time to stop another attempt on his life by a competitor under the thumb of Roman Locke.

-Realizing the difference he could make, Cal swears an oath to protect Larissa, starting his vigilante career.

Cal re-enrolled this time for advanced medical engineering. That spring, the night of the bank robbery came upon them and Cal emerged from the shadows of the night as IllAdvised joining together with the other three as the four of them took down a Hyperhuman gangbanger. Over the next year, IllAdvised brought the team together and lead them through various situations as they tackled crime in Larissa bringing the attention of the reigning crime lord Roman Locke upon IllAdvised and the Mavericks. This attention resulted in Locke and his elite taskforce descending upon the Maverick base and nearly destroying the team. However, stronger and more resilient than ever the team re-emerged and regrouped at a location that Cal found familiar. Choosing to rebuild in the base in the Rhodes Lighthouse, the Mavericks now stand stronger than ever.

  • GLITCH: A highly advanced artificial intelligence whose frame work was designed by Richard Maddox before his psychological break. With the help of Samantha Russells, Cal was able to complete his father's work and bring Glitch to life. Glitch has moved past her initial programming, even becoming arguably sentient and is constantly upgrading and learning from the world around her. A valuable asset to the Mavericks, Glitch operates as their eye in the sky as she watches the team through every accessible computer in the city. It should be noted that Glitch is coded in order to mimic Samantha Russels in both appearance and personality, a feature added by Cal after the fallout of the relationship between the pair of them.


  • FERAL: Of all the Mavericks, Makarios Lillis is the one who's closest to Cal. Known in the field as Feral, Maki as he prefers is the heart of the team. Possessing the incredible ability to replicate the abilities of animals, Makarios lives up to his alias in many aspects but is also the most caring and loyal of the team. If you have to choose one man to have your back, it had best be Makarios.


  • ANGEL: The strongest member of the Mavericks, not much is known about the abilities of Thomas Campbell. Able to manipulate the Vis in a unique way, Thomas, or rather Angel keeps a vigilant eye over Larissa from her skies. Possessing a strong sense of justice, Thomas is the group's moral compass and keeps them on the thin and narrow instead of slipping into the underhanded tactics employed by their enemies.

Entering into grade nine together, Kourtney and Cal found themselves growing closer together and the two eventually shared a first kiss. Their relationship lasted up until the death of Cal's mother at which point he distanced himself from all his friends and started down the path to becoming IllAdvised. Kourtney is currently engaged to Oliver Nichols.

After Richard Maddox's admittance into Murdoch Mental Hospital, Cal came to Sam in order to unlock the secrets of the Glitch Operating System that Richard had left in his care. The two developed Glitch together, and ended up becoming romantically involved. It was at this time that Cal founded the Mavericks and his nights in the field began to increase eventually causing stress between the two and ultimately leading to the end of their relationship. Sam currently acts as the director of Maddox Industries' Research and Development department and her and Cal are on amicable term despite Sam currently dating Bryce Kane.

    Sam would later meet her demise at the hands of Epitome, the android inhabited by the rogue A.I. Glitch. Seeing Samantha as a threat to both herself and her unrequited love for Cal, Epitome hunts Samantha down, eventually executing her in front of IllAdvised who arrives too late to save his first true love.

Though she's only just started touring, city after city has fallen to a crime spree after her shows when the audience seemly turning into a horde of zombies raid and steal just about everything they can get their hands on. So far thousands of dollars worth of merchandise has gone unaccounted for as 'Riot and the Mob' make their way to the next city. Still under the employ of Locke, Larisaa is one of the largest shows planned for Riot's tour.

P R E M I S E:

After nearly a month of heavy rain that has left meteorologists baffled at its cause, Crescent City is in a state of pandemonium. Flooding from both the coast and the internal rivers have stretched not only emergency services but also civilian volunteers to their limit as they fight back against the downpour. Numerous areas of the city have been evacuated as more and more people are driven from their homes by the seemingly never ceasing waters.

However there are those who have taken advantage of this situation. Evacuated areas are constantly being raided by criminals and those who have been driven by desperation to break the law in order to survive. Due to dealing with the natural crisis at hand, there’s few spare officers to deal with the rising crime wave. As such, numerous individuals have decided to stand up for the victims of the city while others have noticed how unnatural the rain besieging the city is and have begun to hunt for the cause of the torrential downfall.

L O C A L H I S T O R I C A L T I M E L I N E:

1783 – In the year of 1783 Sir Eduard De La Cruz and his ship the Los Paraíso became shipwrecked along the coast of what would eventually become Del Norte County, California. Managing to make it to shore along with his crew and most of his provisions, Sir Eduard refused to give up the duties bestowed upon him by the king. Moving forward with what they could the former crew of the Los Paraíso set up a settlement eventually forming alliances with the locals and making contact with other Spanish Colonization efforts to move forward with the construction of a mission. Expanding a presidio off the monastery, the settlement named after the ship which carried Sir Eduard and the crew to the New World eventually grew into a full pueblo. This pueblo would of course endure the ages going on to become the city of Los Paraíso.

1849 – Shortly after becoming a state in the young country of the United States of America, the fever of the California Gold Rush brought prospective prospectors north of Los Paraíso where they began to search for gold among the mountainous range known as the Demon’s Teeth. As more ‘Forty-Niners’ came, another settlement was built at the base of the mountains. These ‘Forty-Niners’ were led by William Murdoch, who became the growing town’s first mayor naming it Kilbride after his ancestral home. However the name became eerily accurate when William's son, Alastair murdered his own bride on their wedding night. The incident brought shame to the Murdoch name while the other two founding families, Faulkner and Fitzroy went on to be incredible successful in the city. Legend holds that Alastair tried to bury his bride in the bog outside of town, but her spirit lived on returning to torture the younger Murdoch and supposedly drove him to insanity.

1852 – In the year of 1852, the mines in Kilbride began to bring more people to the North of California. Travel was made easier with the construction of the Port of Lilith. Built between both Kilbride and Los Paraíso, the port made it easy for travellers to venture north towards the mines or south into the thriving city of Los Paraíso. The Port of Lilith was named after a group of superstitious workers pointed out the large variety and population of snakes in the area.

1893 – In 1893, tragedy befell the Port of Lilith as a fire consumed the town burning most of it to the ground. Hundreds of lives were lost as the center of the town was consumed almost immediately by the blaze. The cause of the fire remained a mystery and to this day is a favourite subject among historians who love to debate the cause of the fire.

1900 - The mines in Kilbride see a revival only instead of gold, oil and coal were found causing Kilbride to shift in industry as it became a producer of power for the cities along the coast. Going through a sort of ‘Industrial Revolution’, Kilbride saw a spike in population as the new coal mines and factories brought an influx of workers to the city along with struggling citizens of what was left of New Lilith.

1913 – The remains of Lilith are taken on as a pet project of a British architect by the name of Winston Standford looking to make a name for himself. Using the Gothic revival moment as his muse, Standford crafted the city into a towering monolith of stone over the next decade. Renamed to reflect its new lease, New Lilith took the place of the port and in the coming years would grow to rival both Kilbride and Los Paraíso.

1930 – As the film industry began to take off and the Los Angeles area known as Hollywood became more expensive, smaller film makers and studios began to look elsewhere for places to set up shop. Many of these found a home in settlement south of New Lilith, the area that had become known as Los Paraíso. While Los Paraíso would never become Hollywood, it would become a home to many successful small film companies along with wineries.

1942 – The attack on Pearl Harbor led to a military presence within the three cities. An airbase was set up on the northern outskirts of New Lilith. Industry began to further flourish in Kilbride as several factories were quickly converted to produce weapons and munitions. Film facilities in Los Paraíso were used to create and distribute numerous propaganda films and other forms of media to help rally potential troops to enter the war.

1992 – The three cities had grown so much that property line debates had become an issue slowing down the local courts. As such, a proposition was made to combine the three under one banner. This vote was held in each city’s town hall and has the highest recorded turnout of eligible voters. Despite the vote winning, it was by a narrow majority and is often regarded as a controversial decision. Although the city was officially named Crescent City, the original urban divisions still hang onto their individual names for the most part but the government, athletic teams and emergency services have been joined under the Crescent City banner.

PRESENT – The city is currently in the middle of a mayoral election and tensions are running high due both to the rising crime rates and the current natural disasters. Poverty has begun to set in as the fluctuating economy has caused many layoffs in conjecture with many new automated systems reducing the number of laborers required to run many of Crescent City’s facilities.

W O R L D H I S T O R Y:

C A T A L Y S T || 1967-1984

On October 18, 1967, Earth was hit with an immense Coronal Mass Ejection. During a total Lunar Eclipse, the sun emitted a massive interplanetary CME which doused the entire globe with high energy particles causing the largest and brightest occurrence of the aurorae ever recorded. Unfortunately this also brought a geomagnetic storm which ravaged Earth’s electrical transmission lines, causing power outages on a global scale. It was on this day that the Earth nearly stood still, sitting in total darkness for nearly ten minutes before back up systems began to re-activate. Numerous regions around the globe were left in the dark well beyond that. Cities were powerless for nearly a week while some rural areas were forced to survive for nearly a month without power. This event left a death toll numbering in the tens of thousands becoming known as the Dark Eclipse.

However the aftermath of the Dark Eclipse reached far further than anyone could have ever anticipated. The resulting effect of the high energy particles is a mutation appearing in one of every hundred thousand people. While public knowledge of the mutation remains vague, selected sects in the scientific community are aware of it and have dubbed the emergence of the mutation ‘Viriumosis’. In more common jargon, the possession of a mutation is referred to as the ‘Hype-Factor’ or ‘Hype-Gene’. Collectively, these mutants are referred to as ‘Hyperhumans’.


E M E R G E N C E || 1985-1999

As the Cold War came to a close, humanity’s attention was turned to a new threat. One that was already in their homes, teaching their children and running their governments. As word of Hyperhumans became public knowledge a perpetual state of fear and paranoia took hold of the world. Neighbor was turned against neighbor and mother against child as humanity’s pattern of fearing that which they didn’t understand continued.

Propaganda against Hyperhumans was widespread especially in North America. Laws were passed that prohibited Hyperhumans from positions of authority on suspicion of using their abilities to gain an advantage. Athletes and other competition driven professions were heavily screened. Although there were those who chose to use Hyperhumans to their own advantage and more than one man or woman desperate to make a living allowed themselves to be drawn into the shadier side of things.

Activism and social conscious was pushed to an all time high during this period as people fought to be treated as equals no matter their colour, sexuality and abilities. Technology took leaps and bounds during this period as Hyperhumans with more subtle abilities were able to integrate into society and excel through their education and in their careers.


V I G I L A N C E || 2000-Present

Due to the emergence of Hyperhumans during the late 80’s, technology advanced at a rapid rate. The majority of Earth’s power is based upon nuclear fusion with coal based energy completely phased out greatly reducing the amount of pollution present in Earth’s atmosphere. Roughly sixty-five percent of power is supplied by nuclear fusion while other clean energy make up the remaining thirty-five percent. Solar power makes up the majority of the secondary energy sources clocking in at twenty-five percent while wind makes up only five percent. The last five percent of energy sources is mixed between nuclear fission, hydroelectric and geothermal power.

Other advances in technology are rather notable among society. As of 2010, three dimensional screens or holographic displays have become commonplace among consumer homes while the self-driving car has been made available to the public market as of 2015. Despite the original fear of Hyperhumans, advances in both law and peace keeping technology has thus far kept any major superpowered crime at bay. Robotic K9 units along with autonomous patrol cars and synthetic officers have become the standard especially among large cities.

S E T T I N G:


A large tri-city metropolitan center, the Crescent City Triad is made up of the three districts of the Point, Eden and Orlaith. A diverse city, Crescent City is home to numerous ethnicities and cultures which extend from its long history. The city’s crime rates have been low in the past but have been on a steady increase over the last five years. The Crescent City Triad has a Mediterranean climate that is sometimes classified, owing to its high rainfall, as an oceanic climate. It is one of the wettest places in California: the annual rainfall is 67 in (1,700 mm). The wettest months are from October to March; the wettest month is December with 11 inches (280 mm) and the driest month is July with less than 0.5 in (13 mm). The average high and low temperatures in January are 54 °F (12 °C) and 41 °F (5 °C). The average high and low temperatures in August are 66 °F (19 °C) and 51 °F (11 °C). Average number of days below 32 °F (0 °C) is 15 days. The highest temperature recorded in the Crescent City Triad was 93 °F (34 °C), observed on 24 September 1964, 1 June 1970, and 10 October 1991. The lowest temperature on record was 19 °F (−7 °C) on 21 December 1990. The maximum monthly precipitation was 31.25 inches (794 mm) in November 1973. The maximum 24-hour precipitation was 7.73 inches (196 mm) on 9 January 1995. The highest snowfall recorded for any period in 24 hours was 6.0 inches (15 cm) occurring on 6 January 1972.

Additionally, the topography of the sea floor surrounding Crescent City has the effect of focusing tsunamis. According to researchers at Humboldt State University and the University of Southern California, the city experienced tsunami conditions 31 times between the years 1933 and 2008. Although many of these incidents were barely perceptible, eleven events included wave measurements exceeding one meter, four events caused damage, and one event in particular is commonly cited as "the largest and most destructive recorded tsunami to ever strike the United States Pacific Coast.

T H E P O I N T D I S T R I C T:

◼ 01. New Alexandria: A small fishing community sitting across the harbour from the rest of the city, New Alexandria is remote and often forgotten about as demonstrated by the abandoned Rhodes lighthouse which sits on the edge of the island borough run down and ignored since the end of the Cold War. In an effort to inject life into the district, the city built Grimm University on the Eastern end of the island, breaking ground in 1998. This brought new life into both New Alexandria and Pointe Bordeaux.

01.1 - The Sound: Originally part of the fishery wharves, around ten years back, the Sound was created by a young philanthropist looking to invest new life into the borough and introduce more housing for college students. As such many of the older buildings were tore down and new apartments and condominiums were put in their place. Many restaurants and upscale clubs have sprung up in the area over the past decade catering specifically to the young college crowd.

01.2 - Grimm University: Grimm University is one of the world's forth most leading universities in archaeology, anthropology, sociology, psychology, and linguistics. However this is far from all that the university offers. It also has an extensive medical program, forensic sciences and recently opened a law school. Each year the University brings in thousands of new students as well as welcoming back the returning populace. The University itself is located to the south of the Sound. Grimm is one of the easiest locations to find in New Alexandria due to its easily recognizable Neo-Gothic inspired architecture. High towers and menacing arches only add to the atmosphere of this school.

01.3 - The Wharves: Situated on New Alexandria's Eastern point, the Wharves dot the edge of the island laying in the shadow of the Alexander Bridge. Sagging structures and faded wooden buildings line the coast above the rough cliffs that have been slowly eroded by the tide throughout the decade. Abandoned fisheries sit between the warehouses with the occasional sailor still trying to make a living off the old industry. Possibly one of the highest crime areas in all of Crescent City, the Docks are used by anyone from the local gangs to the De Vitis for hideouts, heists, deals and even executions. Small apartment buildings and a few residential neighborhoods dot the Western edge of the district. Home to both commercial and private docking, the Wharves most often see freighters and private vessels come in and out of the docks each day opposed to the commercial vessels which dock in New Lilith's Harbour. The Wharves are used as hideouts by some of the cities more notorious gangs and can be dangerous after dark due to gang territory disputes.

◼ 02. Pointe Bordeaux: Located on a peninsula sitting in Crescent Bay, Pointe Bordeaux is a thriving colourful borough. Known as the ‘Neon City’ to locals and tourists alike, the borough shares a lot of influence from both Miami and New Orleans, having a thriving club and night scene. To many, Pointe Bordeaux is an escape, a break from the stress that life often brings as they get lost in the clubs along the coast. The borough makes most of its money officially on tourism, however it thrives on drug money from the cartels of the South. Rampant with crime, if you go missing in Pointe Bordeaux, no one bothers to look for you. Among Pointe Bordeaux's more notable attractions are Club Nevermind; a popular hangout spot for older students from New Alexandria. However the La Petite Mort also gets its fair share of traffic for very different reasons.

02.1 - Milk Street: Once home to the city's milk bottling factory, the Milk Street has become known as something of a 'hipster' neighborhood with old factories converted into clubs and dive-bar concert halls. A common alternative for students and young people to the Sound, the Milk District offers a completely different feel much more down to earth. Due to its slight distance from the center of the city and the old bottling factory, it serves as an ideal location for music festivals for alternative and indie artists.

02.2 - Little Santiago (A.K.A. Lil'Santiago or Poor Lil'Santiago): Sitting near the North Western edge of the borough, Little Santiago is an ethnic district with a distinct Caribbean flair. There's also a notable Spanish influence mostly apparent in the district distinct housing style. Many cultural events are celebrated in the streets of Little Santiago and live music can also be heard down every block as the smells of the Caribbean waft through the air.

02.3 - Lonely Hearts Club: Found just East of Little Santiago, the Lonely Hearts Club has a lot of draw for what it lacks in appeal. Flashing neon signs of 'Girls, Girls Girls', 'NUDE' and 'XXX' cover nearly every commercial space in the neighborhood and the street corners are never empty. Filled with the washed up and washed out, the Lonely Hearts Club is home to many small pubs, strip joints, casinos and brothels. Alcoholics stumble from dive bars, along the sidewalk as they make their way to their next drink, drug addicts sit in allies, half conscious with needles still pressed into their arms. Most people are advised to steer clear of the neighborhood unless they want their pockets lightened.

02.4 - Gagniez: Modeled after the famous Las Vegas Strip, the Gagniez is home to all manner of hotels, clubs and casinos at which you can try your luck. However luck isn't the only thing that's available to try in Gagniez. Those with more carnal desires can find their urges sated to the East near the Lonely Hearts Club. In all of Crescent City, Gagniez is the pot that has more hands dipped into it than any other as nearly every major crimelord has a share of its spoils. Gagniez is located in the North Eastern side of Pointe Bordeaux near the border of the Industrial Lane making it a favourite past time for shift workers.

◼ 03. Crestwood Hollow: Crestwood Hollow is a small borough originally founded in the 1864, and is home to the Murdoch Mental Hospital. Settled alongside the Whispering Woods, the city is home to a large rural area, boasting a very fruitful agricultural industry. The largest export of the city is the 'Golden Delicious' apple. Beyond the district lies a densely populated forest of oak, maple and cherry trees. This contributes to several lumber mills in the area that provide a secondary industry to the borough. The port is often a thriving hub of life with new ships visiting each day. Several fisheries dot the piers but have fallen upon hard times in latter years due to over-fishing in the Atlantic. Numerous recreational boats fill the docks and full warehouses litter the boardwalks.

03.1 - North City:Located against the North Western border of Crestwood Hollow, North City sits against the thick treeline of the Whisper Woods. Just inside the woods are a series of deep ravines which sit below craggy cliffs and small creeks which make their way from Calder Lake to the coast and into the pacific. North City is the wealthiest area in the Point, with upper class homes styled after Edwardian influences lining its residential area. Mather Memorial Highschool makes its home here, providing an institute of learning to the surrounding area.

◼ 04. Jethrull:Jethrull centers around the Sigma Tower, a colossal, narrow sky scraper that juts out to challenge the mountain peaks to the east of it. Further to the East, the district becomes steadily more wooden and festive, a lumberjack site stretching the edge of the city just beyond the boarders of a gondola line that winds up the mountain toward a winter resort - a main source of wealth for Jethrull. Back down in the city proper, toward the West end, is considerable retail land, with two major malls and a few large high streets, filled with chains and independents and locals all mashed together. To the North lies the main residential area, housing and streets and a few small parks dotted around, while between here and the business area closer to the Sigma Tower lie several blocks filled with apartments and condominiums. Along the Southern edge of the district is a shared industrial sector which is where Jethrull and Kilbride meet.

Joseph has a slender frame that is covered in compacted muscle built up from years of exercising and toning his body. His torso and legs are built like someone who regularly competes in marathons and free running competitions while his arms and shoulders are built more like that of a boxer mixed with a martial artist. Joseph prides himself on being more balanced in his physique and as such has kept his flexibility and somewhat slender frame despite his well chiseled biceps and abdominal. Joseph is especially known for his keen piercing blue eyes. Deep blue with flecks of icy blue strewn throughout, Joseph's eyes are known for being able to look right through someone as though he is staring into their soul. Joseph has deep brown hair with strands of gold and auburn acting as natural highlights, these are most visible in bright light where as in dim and barely lit places, Joseph's hair can seem to be almost black. He keeps his hair anywhere from a short to medium length, often grooming it into various ways.

Joseph's general attire ranges from long sleeve mock tees to hoodies usually. Always paired with straight leg or boot-cut, dark-wash jeans. In collaboration with these, Joseph prefers to wear semi loose fitting tops in an effort to hide his more chiseled physique so as not to draw too much attention to himself. To that end he often will wear a t-shirt paired with a hoodie and jacket, or a long-sleeved shirt adorned with a hood and a jacket. Depending on the weather though Joseph may wear just a t-shirt, or a rolled up long sleeved mock tee. His outfit is almost always complimented with a leather jacket.​

During the height of the Mavericks' career Joseph's grandfather, Forrest Emerson Thoreau was a officer with the Larissa Lilith Police Department, often providing support to the Mavericks themselves. Proud to call himself an ally to the Mavericks, Forrest often told a young Joseph tales of the daring heroics the vigilantes had once brought to Larissa and its surrounding areas. However, Joseph's father, Silas Edward Thoreau didn't see eye to eye with his own father and while Forrest had been aiding the Mavericks, Silas had been away at Harvard earning his law degree and developing a deep rooted seed of hatred against those who took the law into their own hands. Upon Silas' return to Larissa, the ambitious young lawyer set his eyes on the gross abuse of the law he considered the Mavericks to be. Appealing to the local district attorney, it was Silas who instigated the city's zero tolerance policy towards vigilantes and ultimately caused the Mavericks to vanish from history. Due in part to his contribution to the city's new anti-vigilante stance, Silas became a valued asset with numerous law firms trying to recruit the young hotshot. Having his pick of the crop, Silas settled in with Campbell and Reid quickly rising to partner over three short years. Eyed by the District Attorney's office, Silas was scouted to take over the position of state prosecutor. Settling into his new career with ease, Silas eventually met and impregnated a young woman by the name of Samantha Russells. Desperate to keep the bastard child out of public headlines, Silas married Samantha in a private civil ceremony. Nine months later, Joseph Edward Thoreau was born to his loving mother and career driven father.

Growing up distant from his father, Joseph spent most of his time with his mother and grandfather. His mother provided the love and care every growing boy needed while Forrest filled the void left by Silas and taught Joseph many numerous life skills. Drawing upon his years of experience as a former police officer, Forrest taught Joseph to listen to the beat of the city, to hear its voice and learn its rhythms. Due to the teachings of his grandfather, Joseph grew to a strong set of street-smarts, taught to remain constantly aware of his surroundings and how to read those within them.

But Joseph found he had trouble connecting to the city, especially on its crowded streets. Constantly overwhelmed, he found the only time he could clearly hear the rhythm of the city was from high above the street. Looking down on the world, Joseph learned how to pick apart the details and eventually found his groove. The city became his playground and Joseph would sneak out of the house to play among the roof tops. It was from this height that the corruption growing in Larissa first became clear to Joseph, he could see the city was sick and that the illness was only spreading. It was here that the idea to follow in his grandfather's footsteps was laid in Joseph's head, within him a fire had lit and the flames of passion ignited a need to help the people of Larissa, a need he wouldn't act on until quite a few years later.

Originally traversing them by climbing fire escape after fire escape before eventually growing bold enough to jump from roof to roof. From there Joseph's skills only continued to expand as Joseph learned to move more efficiently from place to place, learning the city from a whole new angle. At least he would have until his mother, Samantha caught Joseph sneaking in through a window one dark Larissa night. Never before had the boy seen his mother so scared as she checked him over for any sign of injury, acting as though he had been out re-enacting the stories of the Mavericks. Making him swear to never use the roof tops again, Joseph was literally grounded from that point on. But he learned to adapt, find new ways to hear the city as he moved through the crowded streets and eventually behind the wheel as his grandfather taught him how to drive and he succeeded in gaining his driver's license.

Despite never being the brightest in his class, Joseph never struggled through school. Maintaining above average grades and achieving honors upon graduation, Joseph had a wide selection of post-secondary institutions to choose from along with several sizable scholarships. However money had never been a concern for the Thoreau's thanks to Joseph's distant father. Deciding to take inspiration from his grandfather, Joseph turned his back on the numerous high brow institutions that had sent him accepted letters before deciding to pursue his education at the local community college. Enrolling for EMT certification, Joseph completed course after course until finding a career with the Larissa General Hospital as a paramedic. Never had Joseph felt so much pride as the day his grandfather shook his hand to congratulate the young man upon his first assignment. Silas however was disgusted with Joseph's career choices, his attitude towards Joseph causing friction between both Joseph and himself as well as Samantha and he. Combined with his constant distant behavior, Silas' negative attitude towards Joseph was the straw that broke the camel's back and Samantha and Silas divorced.

Having moved out during his time at college, the split did little to upset Joseph's living arrangements. His mother however relocated from the Olympus district to a country home in the more rural district of Mount Nysa. Making time to visit his mother over the weeks that followed, Joseph was rather confused by how little the divorce seemed to bother her. Silas on the other hand was working hard to keep the divorce out of his public image least it reflect poorly upon him.

Standing at roughly five feet and three inches tall (5'-3"), Cassie is a woman slightly below average height for her sex. As such, she doesn't cut an overly intimidating figure, at least until she locks eyes with you. It's Cassie's eyes which cause many would be suitors to second guess approaching the otherwise stunning woman. Her fierce green eyes give away the fact there's something wild and untamed behind them. Piercing and keen, it's almost as though her eyes can't stop moving as they swish from side to side, taking in their surroundings constantly. A side effect from the traumatic scaring of her childhood.

Cassie has a scar above her collarbone on her right shoulder from where Strider held a knife to her.​ Often Cassie can be found wearing the same outfit, a dark purple leather jacket with a small black backpack slung over her one shoulder. Her back pack contains some cosmetics, first aid and of course a few spare clothes while she’s on the run. Along with a water flask and whatever food she can manage to have on her at the time.

Due in part to her abilities, Cassie isn't known for practical footwear, and she almost always wears her thigh high heeled boots Paired with a pair of fishnet stockings and a frilled skirt, Cassie's ensemble has a certain 'Punk Rock Ho' vibe to it. She prefers to think of it as a the best balance of Gothic, Punk and even Japanese Lolita subcultures. This can also be seen reflected in her dark smokey make up preferences and numerous eye piercings. Cassie as three small silver hoops in the arc of her left ear while a small skull sits in the lobe. On her right ear, Cassie has a simple silver bar which slightly dangles from the lobe. A small jewel nose piecing sits to the right of her bridge.

A powerful set of lungs alerted the world of the birth of Vanessa Taylor Cassidy as she was pulled from the womb screaming in the dead of one cold Crescent City night. Born to doting parents, William and Liliana spoiled their little princess during her early childhood. However that all changed one hot summer when a notorious man by the name of Lucas Strider went on a crime spree throughout the city. This spree was isolated to the districts of Somerset, the Wharf, the Sound and Little Santiago. A sexual predator, rapist and family annihilator, Strider left a rather notable body count in his wake including both William and Liliana.

During the attack on their home, Vanessa managed to call 911 although she was caught by Strider before having the chance to express the situation to the operator on the other side. Having already dispatched both of Vanessa's parents, Strider believed himself free to have his way with the young girl and began to take his time, tormenting Vanessa. Pressing a knife against Vanessa's skin as he began to cut off her shirt, Vanessa screamed in terror as Strider smiled wickedly at her. However this scream was not the simple scream of a terrified girl, but the a scream laden with adrenaline that woke something within her. The combination of trauma and puberty awoke latent Hyperhuman abilities in Vanessa which manifested a portal around her. Teleporting to the safety of her bedroom, Strider cried out in pain in the living room as Vanessa's portal had taken his hand as well. Cursing as he pulled himself to his feet, Strider scrambled for another knife, giving chase to Vanessa only to be pulled back by William. Having underestimated William's constitution, Strider believed he had left the man for dead however William had managed to fight through his wounds, coming to his daughter's aid. Put in the care of her grandmother, Vanessa was put into both speech and psychological therapy in order to help cope with what she had been through and witnessed. Still the girl refused to speak, often flying into blind fits when called her name one too many times. It was eventually determined that Strider had repeatedly said the name 'Vanessa' over and over again causing the young girl to disassociate with the name as it terrified her now to hear her own name uttered. The doctor decided to sit the girl down and ask her what she would prefer to be called, after an afternoon of coloring, the doctor noted a name scribbled on the corner of one of the sheets. Vanessa had written her own surname only to have crossed it out and wrote 'Cassie' in its place. As such Vanessa became Cassie and slowly the girl began to find her voice. Still though, the doctors find the progress to be slow and decided it was necessary to teach the girl an alternate way to communicate. To this end, Cassie was taught American Sign Language, her grandmother learning along with her as she finally had a way to hold a conversation with her young granddaughter.

-Her grandmother was a devout Catholic and took Cassie to church for both confirmation and mass on a weekly basis. Unknown to both Cassie's grandmother and therapists, Cassie actually spoke to Father Juan in confessional.

She loves to act as a heart breaker and will attract the attention of males to ensure she's 'well protected' only to use her powers to run when the situation starts to look bleak. When backed into a corner, confronted or challenged, Cass can become brutal and harsh. Often going for the proverbial throat, Cass shows no mercy and usually runs after everything is said and done. Due to being abandoned by her parents, Cassie has abandonment and commitment issues. She rarely trusts people and often only feigns loyalty until something better comes along.

That's not to say Cassie is a bad person. She is ever hopeful of a day where she won't have to run. When Cassie allows her facade to drop, she will stand up for what she believes in and will fight side by side with any allies she has left. ◼ PORTAL CREATION | Cassie has the ability to teleport herself and an unknown mass at a maximum distance of five hundred meters (500m approximately 1,600 feet). This can be over come however if Cassie is directly looking at a photograph of her intended target. Cassie’s teleportation happens through variable portal sizes which appear around her and any other mass she's taking with her when she uses her abilities. Cassie can also redirect her portals, or even create multiple portals with extreme focus to optimize her abilities in both offensive and defensive methods.

In order to use her abilities in an offensive manner, Cassie can create portals in the shape of small orbs which she launches at her enemies. The orbs explode and can teleport whatever mass they hit to the last location Cassie thought when she released the orb. The portals can also sever off parts of the mass they hit depending on the focus involved. An unfocused orb will explode in a large radius and take whatever it comes in contact with where as a focused orb will only teleport that which Cassie wishes it to. Alternately, with a lot of focus and effort, Cassie can chain together portals to redirect attacks or extend her own physical range. To give an example of this Cassie could throw a portal pass her opponent while simultaneously opening one in front of herself thus creating a bridge to hit her foe in the back of the head. This method of attack, and any multiple portal application, is severely draining on Cassie and is a last resort.

■ ASL | Having spent several years without speaking, Cassie's speech therapist introduced her to and educated her in American Sign Language. Being a competent user of it, Cassie can communicate proficiently with most individuals who have an understanding of it. She herself can be overwhelmed by the speed at which life long users sign but this can often be overcome.

◼ IMPROMTU COMBATANT | Cassie has no martial arts training, nor has she used a sword, shot a gun nor a bow. But she is very handy at using her environment and what ever is around her in a fight. Well that means throwing sand in her opponents eyes, teleporting out the support of a wall or swinging a sledge hammer. Cassie will use whatever is around her to fight.

◼ LOCK PICKING | Being on the run for as long as she has been, Cassie has learned to pick a lock whether to find shelter or to steal the essentials to survive. Training on the street, Cassie had to learn to lock pick when she was frightened of her abilities.

◼ PICKPOCKET | Also due to living on the streets, and in part thanks to her abilities, Cassie makes an excellent pickpocket, teleporting away if she's caught or using her teleportation to close a gap only to escape again. Her purple smoke usually confusing most people, blinding them while she takes their wallet, keys or any other valuables.

◼ SEDUCTION | Despite her PTSD, Cassie is no stranger to using her feminine wiles to gain her an upper ground. In fact she finds a certain amount of strength in using her looks and sexuality to manipulate those around her, particularly men. This is generally how Cassie gets what she needs, whether it be food, money or clothing, seduction usually gets her where she needs to be long enough to get what she desires and disappear in a purple haze.

◼ SURVIVALIST | Cassie will do whatever she has to survive. For this reason alone she can't always be trusted because she's known to sell out her team mates to ensure her own safety. Cassie will also abandon allies if they're going to put her at risk.

//LIMITATIONS:
■ ADDICTION | ​Cassie suffers from an addiction to sleeping pills, as well as predispostion towards alcohol. Often mixing the two depsite warnings from those who have cared about her in the past. In some instances Cassie needs a drink to accompany a meal, often refusing to relax until she has one in her hand. Whether this is a placebo effect, addiction or both isn't yet determined. She can't sleep without sleeping pills, whether its an afternoon nap or a full night's rest. Cassie believes she needs the pills or her nightmares will come.

■ BERSERK BUTTON | At the age of eleven, Cassie was sexual assaulted and nearly raped by Lucas Strider. She also witnessed the death of her father while her mother's murderer was carted off and put in jail where he had a roof over his head and was provided three meals per day along with free education. While Cassie uses her memories to fuel her will to survive, they are also a crutch to her. Victims of sexual assault often cause her to become unhinged and unfocused while guns can unnerve Cassie and she's especially vulnerable to seeing someone near death or dead in front of her. Unexpected displays of affection can also unnerve Cassie causing her to become hostile.​ Furthermore, her given name 'Vanessa' serves as a trigger as Lucas repeatedly said her name as he was attempting to undress her. This is why she goes by the name 'Cassie' instead of Vanessa.

◼ CLAUSTROPHOBIA | Due to her powers, Cassie suffers from a suffocating case of claustrophobia. If she cannot escape a room or feels closed in, she begins to panic and experience severe anxiety attacks. This can lead to spontaneous teleporting which is not only a risk for her but also those around her.

■ PTSD | ​Despite having been in and out of therapy over the past ten years, Cassie still suffers from symptoms of PTSD due to Strider's actions. Cassie is completely dependent on sleeping pills in order to get anything close to a semblance of rest each night. Often tossing and turning due to nightmares and the haunting visage of the man with a knife pressed against her. Even during the day if Cassie allows her thoughts to wander, she finds herself reliving the event, experiencing intense flashbacks. The smell of blood or the brand of cheap body spray that Strider wore can act as a trigger. News reports of sexual assaults or rapes can set Cassie's PTSD off as can hearing the song 'Escape' by Rupert Holmes.

For this reason, Cassie avoids playing music before bed since it was a tradition of her parents and one that lead to 'Escape' being played before their murders. Cassie also refuses to sleep with a window open or unlocked, and ensures every door has at least two locks on it. If Cassie tries to go to bed while anything in her apartment is similar to the night of the assault then she will end up avoiding sleep altogether.

Cassie has trouble forming relationships, and can be seen as very untrusting. She tends to view the world at its worst and sees it as a dangerous and untamed animal. As such, Cassie has never had a boyfriend or any sort of significant other never being able to get past a first date or one night stands. She's constantly on alert, her eyes twitching back and forth constantly searching for any threats to herself. Often Cassie fidgets, tapping a foot or hand on whatever surface is nearby, often jittery especially in new environments. She's prone to mood swings, suddenly becoming angry or irritable without any notice. Cassie always checks her surroundings, especially in a new location, always sitting with her back to a wall and never a window, door or open space. Additionally Cassie doesn't take kindly to being snuck up on or surprised.


◼ SUBTLY | The portals that Cassie creates appear in a flash of purple light followed by a loud sharp pop and a haze of purple smoke. As such, her abilities are not situated for stealth and her arrival and subsequent disappearance is very noticeable

◼ RANGE | Her abilities however are very taxing on her body and in order for Cassie to teleport long distances she needs to be able to see her target. Cassie can not teleport to someplace she has never seen though her range isn't limited. Within a close range, she has a very high spatial awareness and is practically unable to teleport into walls or any other obstacles. However as the distance increases her spatial awareness decreases raising the chance of her colliding with obstacles or ending up halfway through a wall. The only exception to this, is teleporting through use of photographs, and even this is risky as photographs only capture a moment in time. There's nothing to guarantee that the area has not changed and that Cassie won't find herself stuck in a bed or another person.

//WEAKNESSES:
◼ ELECTRICITY | Cassie also can't use her powers when afflicted by electrical shock. Any level of electricity with voltage higher than the human body's natural bio-electric level causes Escapist to de-syncronize with her ability and renders her teleportation null and void.

◼ LEAD | Lead is the only material known to Cassie she can't teleport past. For whatever reason, lead is able to block her ability causing Cassie to re-materialize in front of whatever obstacle contains the material. This can be as obvious as a lead door or as convoluted as a series of lead pipes blocking her path. As such, Cassie has a dislike of older buildings and industrial settings where lead tends to be found most frequently

◼ OVERHEATING | The largest draw back to Cassie's powers is that with constant use her powers begin to overhead. Cassie's body is like an engine core that requires cooling or else it will overload. With each jump that she makes, her body comes that much closer to over heating. There is a lot of variables which affect how quickly Cassie will overheat. Rate of use, range, how much mass she's teleporting or how many portal's she's manifesting. If Cassie does overheat, her body ejects a large portal which envelopes her and anything around her teleporting them to an unknown location. Cassie is left temporarily helpless if this happens as she's stuck in a 'cool down' period. The length of this period is affected by how quickly she overheated. The quicker she overheated, the longer the cool down period and the further away she's transported. As such, Cassie is hesitant to use her powers subsequently.

CASSIDY, WILLIAM | Cassie's late father. William used to regal his daughter with tales of Larissa's legendary heroes the Mavericks. In truth, William knew the Mavericks better than most having been on the receiving end of IllAdvised's fist more than once in his youth. Growing up, William had been pressured into gang life, ending up running with the Harbour Kings. However due to the interference of the Mavericks, the gang was eventually shut down and William was able to attend Grimm University, taking a degree in Power Engineering. Before his death he had been working at the Michaels' Power Plant. Charles Michaels himself personally ensured that Vanessa would receive William's full pension on the day of her eighteenth birthday.

DELGADO, ADALIND | Cassie's grandmother and caretaker for most of her life. A very religious and superstitious woman, Adalind was initially hesitant to take Cassie into her home. However, she was unable to say no to her own granddaughter and eventually the two bonding, Adalind learning sign language along with Cassie. In fact, sign language was a greater gift than Adalind could have anticipated as it allowed her to communicate with other elderly members of her church that had begun to lose their hearing. Seeing Cassie as a blessing in her life, Adalind made sure to thank God every time she prayed for showing her his plan for bringing Cassie into her life.


DEL CARO, JUAN | Father or Padre Juan is the Priest which resides over St. Makarios' Cathedral. For most of Cassie's early teens he acted as a father figure to the young girl and still acts as her confident today. Padre Juan is aware of Cassie's nighttime activities but as part of his oath does not utter a word from confessional. While the Father tells Cassie that God does not appreciate sin, a small part of the local priest can't help but sympathize with the girl, although he has tried to push her towards using her abilities for the benefit of others. Having grown up in Little Santiago, the Mavericks did a lot to bring prosperity into the poorer regions of Crescent City and while most of the city turned on the heroes in the end, Juan and his family stood by their heroes.

STRIDER, LUCAS | When Lucas was seventeen his father divorced his mother leaving the pair nearly penniless. This planted the seeds of rage within Marcus who held both his parents accountable for the split and eventually leading to him murdering his mother and then hunting down his father. However, unbeknownst to Lucas, his father had left Crescent City leading to him seeking our surrogates. Lucas went on a twelve day rapidly devolving killing spree that was ended when he invaded the Cassidy family home. Having taken William Cassidy by surprise, Marcus took his time assaulting and tormenting Liliana before killing her and coming after their eleven year old daughter Vanessa. Underestimating William, Lucas was prevented from raping the child as William re-engaged him. The fight was brought to an end when the police arrived and shot William to prevent him from killing Lucas. Lucas was then apprehended and sentenced to lifetime without chance of bail in Cliffside Penitentiary. Recently, he has been reported missing from Ciffside. Lucas' cell was found to be compromised during the storm and during transport the family annihilator escaped.

This ability allows Cassie to stretch, flatten, deform, expand, and contract her whole body, including limbs, torso, neck, etc. Furthermore Cassie can control how elastic/flexible she or parts of her are, allowing Cassie to change her body into various shapes, tools or other constructs. This ability also makes Cassie highly durable and essentially invulnerable to most blunt or physical attacks. Cassie's bones, organs and entire physical make up all share this trait making her able to survive conditions that would rip most people apart.

◼ SIZE ALTERATION | Cassie has complete control over the size of herself, from as short as three feet to nearly ten feet tall while retaining her physical proportions. Cassie is also capable of specifically expanding her limbs (arms, legs, neck, etc.) to great sizes and lengths separate of her body, allowing for increased reach and range. This also allows Cassie to strike opponents at a distance and defeat long-range attackers.

◼ DENSITY CONTROL | Cassie can manipulate the density of her skin to improve its durability. However this is directly related to her size, the smaller she is, the more dense she can make her skin but the larger she becomes the less dense she's able to become making herself more durable to attacks. Cassie can also focus her density changes into specific parts of her body such as her fists to make them stone hard for improved striking abilities.

◼ REGENERATION | Cassie can rapidly regenerate from any damage to her body. In other words, she is able to recreate lost or damaged tissues, organs and limbs. The rate and amount of healing varies widely depending on the nature of the wounds inflicted. Furthermore, in order for Cassie to regrow missing limbs, she must put the limb back in place for rapid regeneration. Cassie's regeneration doesn't allow her increased stamina or endurance however she is highly resistant to energy attacks and nearly invulnerable to electricity due to her near rubber composition.

Where others would have need tools, Cassie can shape her hands to simulate tools allowing her to reach into the locks and pick them. Furthermore, she can reach under doors and unlock them from the other side so long as they are not water tight.

◼ PICKPOCKET | Also due to living on the streets, Cassie has collected several less than desirable skills, among these is the ability to pick pockets. Capable of swiping wallets, keys and jewelry without the owner noticing. Her Hyperhuman abilities have only further enhanced her skills due to being able to flatten and otherwise shape her limbs for the job at hand.

◼ SEDUCTION | Despite her PTSD, Cassie is no stranger to using her feminine wiles to gain her an upper ground. In fact she finds a certain amount of strength in using her looks and sexuality to manipulate those around her, particularly men. This is generally how Cassie gets what she needs, whether it be food, money or clothing, seduction usually gets her where she needs to be long enough to get what she desires and disappear in a purple haze.

◼ SURVIVALIST | Cassie will do whatever she has to survive. For this reason alone she can't always be trusted because she's known to sell out her team mates to ensure her own safety. Cassie will also abandon allies if they're going to put her at risk.

//LIMITATIONS:
■ ADDICTION | ​Cassie suffers from an addiction to sleeping pills, as well as predispostion towards alcohol. Often mixing the two depsite warnings from those who have cared about her in the past. In some instances Cassie needs a drink to accompany a meal, often refusing to relax until she has one in her hand. Whether this is a placebo effect, addiction or both isn't yet determined. She can't sleep without sleeping pills, whether its an afternoon nap or a full night's rest. Cassie believes she needs the pills or her nightmares will come.

■ BERSERK BUTTON | At the age of eleven, Cassie was sexual assaulted and nearly raped by Lucas Strider. She also witnessed the death of her father while her mother's murderer was carted off and put in jail where he had a roof over his head and was provided three meals per day along with free education. While Cassie uses her memories to fuel her will to survive, they are also a crutch to her. Victims of sexual assault often cause her to become unhinged and unfocused while guns can unnerve Cassie and she's especially vulnerable to seeing someone near death or dead in front of her. Unexpected displays of affection can also unnerve Cassie causing her to become hostile.​ Furthermore, her given name 'Vanessa' serves as a trigger as Lucas repeatedly said her name as he was attempting to undress her. This is why she goes by the name 'Cassie' instead of Vanessa.

◼ CLAUSTROPHOBIA | Due to her powers, Cassie suffers from a suffocating case of claustrophobia. If she cannot escape a room or feels closed in, she begins to panic and experience severe anxiety attacks. This can lead to spontaneous teleporting which is not only a risk for her but also those around her.

■ PTSD | ​Despite having been in and out of therapy over the past ten years, Cassie still suffers from symptoms of PTSD due to Strider's actions. Cassie is completely dependent on sleeping pills in order to get anything close to a semblance of rest each night. Often tossing and turning due to nightmares and the haunting visage of the man with a knife pressed against her. Even during the day if Cassie allows her thoughts to wander, she finds herself reliving the event, experiencing intense flashbacks. The smell of blood or the brand of cheap body spray that Strider wore can act as a trigger. News reports of sexual assaults or rapes can set Cassie's PTSD off as can hearing the song 'Escape' by Rupert Holmes.

For this reason, Cassie avoids playing music before bed since it was a tradition of her parents and one that lead to 'Escape' being played before their murders. Cassie also refuses to sleep with a window open or unlocked, and ensures every door has at least two locks on it. If Cassie tries to go to bed while anything in her apartment is similar to the night of the assault then she will end up avoiding sleep altogether.

Cassie has trouble forming relationships, and can be seen as very untrusting. She tends to view the world at its worst and sees it as a dangerous and untamed animal. As such, Cassie has never had a boyfriend or any sort of significant other never being able to get past a first date or one night stands. She's constantly on alert, her eyes twitching back and forth constantly searching for any threats to herself. Often Cassie fidgets, tapping a foot or hand on whatever surface is nearby, often jittery especially in new environments. She's prone to mood swings, suddenly becoming angry or irritable without any notice. Cassie always checks her surroundings, especially in a new location, always sitting with her back to a wall and never a window, door or open space. Additionally Cassie doesn't take kindly to being snuck up on or surprised.


◼ OVER EXERTION | As malleable as Cassie is, over exertion or stress can be extremely uncomfortable or even agonizing for her. If Cassie is stretched against her will, it will cause her a severe degree of discomfort to the point of pain depending on the force and how far she has been stretched.

//WEAKNESSES:
◼ TEMPERATURE | Sudden changes in high and low temperatures is extremely limiting and harmful to Cassie almost completely nullifying her ability and causing her extreme amounts of pain. High temperatures can cause Cassie to drop into a liquid like state, inhibiting her ability to maintain shape while freezing temperatures can reduce her to an almost solid like state inhibiting his ability to move.

◼ INJURY | While Cassie is durable to physical and blunt attacks including most forms of ballistics, bladed weapons, needles and other fine points are still able to cut through her skin and puncture her in a lethal manner. Furthermore Cassie's skin is not resistant to toxins, poisons, acids or other corrosives.

CASSIDY, LILIANA (neé DELGADO) | Cassie's late mother. Named by her parents after the 'Lilly of the Valley' found outside of New Lilith, Liliana met and married William in their early twenties. She stayed at home during the first seven years of Cassie's life, eventually returning to work the year Cassie entered into the second grade. Working as a paralegal, Liliana made a decent wage and upon her death, the 'Reid and Reid' Lawfirm ensured Ellara was put into the care of her grandmother instead of into the system.

CASSIDY, WILLIAM | Cassie's late father. William used to regal his daughter with tales of Larissa's legendary heroes the Mavericks. In truth, William knew the Mavericks better than most having been on the receiving end of IllAdvised's fist more than once in his youth. Growing up, William had been pressured into gang life, ending up running with the Harbour Kings. However due to the interference of the Mavericks, the gang was eventually shut down and William was able to attend Grimm University, taking a degree in Power Engineering. Before his death he had been working at the Michaels' Power Plant. Charles Michaels himself personally ensured that Vanessa would receive William's full pension on the day of her eighteenth birthday.

DELGADO, ADALIND | Cassie's grandmother and caretaker for most of her life. A very religious and superstitious woman, Adalind was initially hesitant to take Cassie into her home. However, she was unable to say no to her own granddaughter and eventually the two bonding, Adalind learning sign language along with Cassie. In fact, sign language was a greater gift than Adalind could have anticipated as it allowed her to communicate with other elderly members of her church that had begun to lose their hearing. Seeing Cassie as a blessing in her life, Adalind made sure to thank God every time she prayed for showing her his plan for bringing Cassie into her life.


DEL CARO, JUAN | Father or Padre Juan is the Priest which resides over St. Makarios' Cathedral. For most of Cassie's early teens he acted as a father figure to the young girl and still acts as her confident today. Padre Juan is aware of Cassie's nighttime activities but as part of his oath does not utter a word from confessional. While the Father tells Cassie that God does not appreciate sin, a small part of the local priest can't help but sympathize with the girl, although he has tried to push her towards using her abilities for the benefit of others. Having grown up in Little Santiago, the Mavericks did a lot to bring prosperity into the poorer regions of Crescent City and while most of the city turned on the heroes in the end, Juan and his family stood by their heroes.

STRIDER, LUCAS | When Lucas was seventeen his father divorced his mother leaving the pair nearly penniless. This planted the seeds of rage within Marcus who held both his parents accountable for the split and eventually leading to him murdering his mother and then hunting down his father. However, unbeknownst to Lucas, his father had left Crescent City leading to him seeking our surrogates. Lucas went on a twelve day rapidly devolving killing spree that was ended when he invaded the Cassidy family home. Having taken William Cassidy by surprise, Marcus took his time assaulting and tormenting Liliana before killing her and coming after their eleven year old daughter Vanessa. Underestimating William, Lucas was prevented from raping the child as William re-engaged him. The fight was brought to an end when the police arrived and shot William to prevent him from killing Lucas. Lucas was then apprehended and sentenced to lifetime without chance of bail in Cliffside Penitentiary. Recently, he has been reported missing from Ciffside. Lucas' cell was found to be compromised during the storm and during transport the family annihilator escaped.

Above all else, she values clean underwear and knows how far the right pair can go to getting a man to do whatever she wants him to.

BLACK SIGHT | Cassie is able to see in complete darkness, her eyes being able to clearly see objects blocked by even the most opaque shadows. When her eyes are using Dark Sight they turn completely black creating a very haunting visage as dark veins appear around her eyes and lips.

BLACKLIGHT BLAST | Cassie can expel the stored light from her body through her eyes, creating a blast of blacklight. This photon energy can be ejected from the eyes in one of two ways, as concussive blasts or as a powerful continuous beam. When fired as a concussive blast, Cassie can either fire these blasts singularly or in rapid succession. The temperature of this ability is variable with the hottest temperature reaching 1510 degrees Celsius (2750°F) which is even capable melting through solid steel. While Cassie can't force her ability burn any hotter than the above number, extended exposure would eventually raise the temperature of the target higher than the above numbers. However as she needs to constantly absorbed light in order to produce blacklight, Cassie isn't able to maintain the ability long enough to build above the aforementioned limit. Like the temperature, Cassie controls the force behind each concussive blast. Cassie can put enough force behind a full charge to easily lift an object over two hundred pounds into the air. That said, due to the strain, Cassie can't keep consistently manage that much force nor the charge required for those levels of force.

SHADOW MANIFESTATION | Cassie is able to absorb the photons from any source of light which is then stored in her body causing her skin to illuminate a pale blue glow whenever her abilities are in use. In artificially lit environments this can cause the room to become dim even completely dark as Cassie absorbs the entire source of light. As the area around Cassie grows dim, shadows begin to exponentially multiple as Cassie's abilities grow in the absence of light, making the space even darker leading to a total absence in light. Cassie's area of effect is radial, spreading out from her as she forms the center point.

SHADOW SOLIDIFICATION | In areas that are naturally dark or manipulated to become dark, Cassie is able to manifest the absence of light; shadows or darkness if you prefer, into a solid opaque form rooted to her body. Most often this takes the form of tendrils which then act as an extension to her own body, lashing out, capable of cutting through even bone. The darker the room, the stronger these tendrils become.

Time travel is real, and all of history is vulnerable to attack. But one group travels throughout time to stop the spread of these so-called 'Time Aberrations' and erase their damage to history. A group of outcasts and misfits, they are no longer saving the world. they are saving history. But these individuals aren't heroes, they're something else.

Pandora’s box; an object that exists outside of time and space, capable of allowing true evil to enter Earth’s realm. If opened, unimaginable horrors of unknown quantities and capacities will enter the world, enslaving it, bringing it to its knees before turning it completely to ash. In the year 2268, the timeline was altered and someone opened Pandora’s Box.

Sensing the change in the timeline, a being from outside of time itself, the android assistent to the New God Metron, the Hourman of the 853rd Century, reached out to a rogue by the name of Matthew Ryder. A time traveler, Ryder and his crew took the fight through time but were sorely defeated with only Ryder escaping before his ship, the Waverider, crash landed in the 21st Century.

With his reality now gone, Captain Ryder and his timeship, the Waverider recruited a new team. This team couldn’t just be anyone however, even with the prime choices available in the Golden Age of Heroes. Contacting the Justice League or even the Teen Titans would have been the most logical choice, but Ryder knew the roles of each and every member and the parts they had to play in the still unfolding present.

Instead, this team had to be made up of individuals with no notable bearing on the timeline. Assembling a crew of outcasts and misfits from throughout time to combat the impending doom, Ryder tasked the crew with what seemed like the impossible, revert the timeline and stop Pandora’s Box from being opened. Although these recruits are had no effect on the world in their own times, if they manage to help Ryder, they’ll be more than heroes.

DO I NEED TO HAVE WATCHED THE SHOW?
Absolutely not, I've made several deviations from the show's premise and this RP is more a case of inspired by rather than straight up based on.

WILL BE PLAYING ORIGINAL CHARACTERS OR CANONS?
I'd be okay with either, although when it comes to canons it has to be like third stringers, you can't play Robin or even say Jaime Reyes. Keep in mind, characters are recruited from across the timeline (timeline, not multiverse), so future and past characters are also possible. Original Characters can be completely original, they could be a new mantle bearer or they could be based on a literary hero like say Robin Hood or Zorro.

WHAT ARE THE POSTING REQUIREMENTS?
I'd like to have a minimum requirement of a paragraph and at least one post per week. Ideally, I'd like to keep the pace pretty steady so that the RP keeps momentum but I do realize that there are always complications to this.
