The forests were old... peaceful; giving off that strange sense that something deeper, and almost magical was hidden within. To think that over the course of years to pass it was all going to be torn down... leaving nothing behind but vast open spaces, ready to be built up during the might of the industrial era which seemed as though would only come too soon for someone who was able to understand time as well as he could. A saddened flicked seemed to grace his features for only a brief moment at the thought of such waste of beauty before eventually, he tore his gaze away from the grace of nature, instead turning his attention over to the might of a large castle sitting strong not too far from where he was stood.
Camelot was the pride of Albion, and home to the one true King... Arthur Pendragon would be the one to defy all odds stacked up against him in his quest to unite the lands- to go against his father, and to allow those who were able to wield the power of magic to lead normal lives... to have that chance to walk the right path without the fear of being hunted down, and slaughtered for the crime of being born; though he knew better than most about what was going on... the path being walked by all involved was a long and treacherous one, and it would take much time for those who could tap into the magic of the world to once again be accepted within the walls of Camelot; whether grown, or born into it, their powers were something they should be proud of... and unlike during the rule of Uther Pendragon; they would have no need to fear consequence unless such gifts were used for evil, and proof provided to both the royal court and to the future King himself. Arthur was a good man... and he would make a kind, though just King.
~ Merlin, of Camelot.
The pride and joy of Albion, the mighty Kingdom of Camelot was founded by the legendary King Bruta; a land of both peace and prosperity- the forests surrounding the Kingdom both old... familiar; giving off that strange sense that something deeper, and almost magical was hidden within. However, as the Pendragon family came into the crown, and from the time known as the ‘Great Purge’ onward, magic was all but wiped from the land, and those surrounding it after the tragic and untimely death of the Queen, Ygraine Pendragon. Wrought by grief at having lost his beloved wife to something far beyond his control, the King, Uther Pendragon struck fear into all those able to wield such abilities; persecuting their kind, hunting them down, and by far the worst, slaughtering them one by one for crimes against the crown... the one crime in which no one could help: being born.
Camelot - City Info
The citadel, a most prominent feature of Camelot, is the upper quarter of the city itself, and is the portion of the city which is closest to the castle; this area is where artisans such as those who work close to the royal family within the castle walls (maids, cooks, ect.), and those with a trade which is held in close ties to the royals (blacksmith, leather worker, ect.) both live and make their home. Located quite close to the citadel is a tavern know to all by ‘The Rising Sun’; the tavern a lively place to meet people of many different social status, as many including both Prince Arthur and the Knights of Camelot tend to frequent the establishment.
The lower quarter of Camelot is located closer towards the edge of the city, and is housed mainly by those who are of a lower class; the two halves of the city separated by a large wall with three gates (southern, eastern, western), the gates able to be closed off and sealed on order of the royal family whenever they deem that the lower quarter is needing to be cordoned off for whatever reason.
Every year in honor of upholding tradition, the royal family of Camelot holds the ‘Tournament of Camelot’; a longstanding competition where competitors from all across the five Kingdoms, and some from around the world, travel to the city so that they may take part, and compete for the glory of becoming champion, along with the chance to escort the Kings Ward, Lady Morgana, to the champion’s feast and to win the prize of one thousand gold pieces.
Camelot - Citadel Info:
In the very middle of the city is the castle in which the royal family (Uther, Arthur, and Morgana) and those of nobility live, and where the court is held whenever it is called to order to discuss important matters of the Kingdom. The castle is seen to be large and constructed of white brick, with several tall and strong towers, as well as complex architecture, and is considered to be Camelot’s greatest asset in war as it is known to be virtually impregnable by all and any who dare to charge against it. Within the castle ground are the quarters of the court physician, and the citadel also houses a garrison of at least twelve-thousand men which to date, has never before fallen in a siege- the courtyard of the citadel is also where those persecuted of using magic are put to execution by order of the King.
Camelot - Government Info:
An absolute monarchy ruled by Uther Pendragon; Camelot is shown to be a very wealthy Kingdom as it offers the prize of a thousand gold coins for the participants in its tournaments, this along with many other reasoning adding temptation to the already large desire of many other Kings to attempt conquer of the Kingdom for both additional riches and power. Widely known for its laws on banning all forms of magic and enchantments on pain and penalty of death, usually either by burning, or beheading- such laws have been in place now for more than twenty years, having been enacted by the King during the Great Purge that followed the Prince’s birth, and the subsequent death of the Kings beloved wife, Queen Ygraine; these laws have made Camelot, and Prince Arthur specifically, the target of many an attack from those ranging from assassins to rouge warlocks and witches, many of whom seek to avenge their murdered kin.
Camelot - Military Info:
Shown to possess a very powerful military led by the Knights of Camelot; their coat of arms is seen to be a majestic golden dragon upon a vibrant red background, the knights and other high ranking officers wearing red cloaks over their armor, and have a reputation for being an extremely fearsome fighting force, as well as the greatest Knights in all of the five Kingdoms- the Knights themselves more than capable to hold their own despite being outnumbered two to one, however this is attributed to the fact that the Knights are professionally trained, and kept in good shape well through the yearly cycle.
A landmass that constitutes the island currently known as Great Britain; the great land of Albion was once united in an age of peace, during which all of its inhabitants followed both the teachings and the traditions of the Old Religion- now home to many other Kingdoms, Albion has its times of great duress, between which peace is exceedingly rare. Now under the reign of Uther Pendragon, and thanks in large part to the Great Purge and the laws set in place against those who have the use of magic, followers of the Old Religion have become exceptionally rare within Albion; and it was during this time of grave division and hostility, Kilgharrah, the Great Dragon prophesied that together both Merlin and Arthur would reunite all the Kingdoms of the land back into Albion, and would once more revive the Old Religion, allowing those born both with and without magic to coexist in peace with the New Religion.
A desert nation situated closely to the Mediterranean Sea; Egypt is a large and glorious Kingdom controlled by the pharaohs; rulers who have been said to have descended from the Gods themselves, and whom claimed much of the lands around their own territory as part of the mighty Egyptian empire.
A grand empire that stretched out from Italy to Hispania (modern-day Spain), and all the way to Egypt; Rome was once ruled by Kings until the idea of rule was thrown out after two-hundred years, and instead was replaced by the Roman Republic before Augustus was made the first emperor.
A powerful force in the land of Albion, and bound in its limitless potential; magic, or sorcery, is the ability to affect and change the world around those with the ability to use and wield it. Similar to any powers, its morality is reliant on that of the user- just as there are those whom would chose to use it for their own ends or to place harm upon others, there are those who are benevolent users of magic, and who wish for nothing more than to channel such an ability for good. Magic is a natural force, albeit an extremely powerful one, and as such it is classed as neither good nor bad, but simply a force that exists, and whom may be used however the user sees fit; and can be evoked voluntarily through spells, though also has the capability to manifest itself in uncontrolled manners such as prophetic dreams, or emotional outbursts.
Containing its own set of laws, specifically when dealing with a power over both life and death; most magic is closely tied to the Old Religion, allowing the High Priestesses to have a greater understanding of such through their deeper proactive and study of the arcane art form, though there are many others who may possess various levels of power as well- some individuals demonstrating such great magical ability that they are foretold to be tied straight into the tapestry of fate and destiny, and unlike others who are able to wield such abilities, there are those rare users of magic who are able to learn the art form both rapidly and powerfully.
Magic, a strong and powerful force of nature, can achieve an extremely wide range of different results, some of which include but are not limited to: shape-shifting, telekinesis, telepathy, slowing down of time, energy/ power blasts, summoning creatures or ancient forces, ect. Seen in many cases, the effects of magic can only be reverted by the use of further magic, or magic which has been combined with the might of a warrior or weapon- remember, magic is not just a tool to be used, it has its own set of rules that it follows, to the extent that in some cases, it is not rare for the enchantment to take on a will of its own.
While there are those, such as Merlin, who can use magic intuitively and require little or no training to be able to manipulate their powers; there are others, such as Gaius (the court physician), whose magical power was needed to be developed over years of both study and practice, though ultimately, the path of a person’s ability is limited to the magical aptitude shown. Though there are those who are seen to possess their power from birth, many initially unlock their abilities when experiencing extreme emotional upheaval, which can in turn produce a loss of control over these particular powers, potentially leading to the cause of massive damage; however if the person in question lives surrounded by and among a magical race such as the Druids, or is trained, it is likely they will come to understand and control their abilities earlier, and more safely than isolated magical individuals.
Though many individuals whom hold magical abilities involve the manipulation of real-world elements, there are some who wield more abstract concepts such as prophecy, telepathy, and mind control. Wielding magic, particularly for those without any innate magic, generally requires for incantations or spoken words of power derived from the Old Religion; many showing a preference to pronouncing a spell as it gives focus for the magic to be channeled- however, more experienced or naturally gifted magical individuals such as Merlin, Morgause, and Edwin Muirden have been seen to use non-verbal magic; a practice which appears to be linked to overall magical aptitude since Merlin, for example, can produce a wide array of effects without speaking a word, while others are far more limited and require further study and practice.
A Deeper Look - Powers And Abilities
Magic is capable of many different things, including the changing and controlling of the natural world (events, objects, people, physical phenomena) through mystical, paranormal and sometimes supernatural means- those of whom practice such art derived from occult sources are usually called ‘Sorcerers’, however, aside from warlocks and witches, there are many other supernatural beings who also share existence within the world; such as dragons, Sidhe, Trolls, Goblins, Lycans, Vampires, Druids, ect.
As an extremely ancient art that has been practiced for countless centuries, and with many different life forms gifted with it, magic has varying branches of which have been developed over time to suit the many different types of practitioners whom use it- among these forms include: Sidhe magic (also used by pixies), Troll magic, the magic of the Old Religion (used by most human sorcerers), Dragonlord magic, elemental magic, and more.
Set in Camelot during a time filled with both myth and magic; the lands of Albion are thriving with various strange, sometimes wondrous, and oftentimes dangerous figures coming from all races and backgrounds; some of these being well known figures such as Prince Arthur, Merlin, and the Lady Morgana, while others might not be so common, such as the Knights of Medhir, the Disir, and the Shades. Within this roleplay we will not only be accepting original characters (OC), but we will also be accepting cannon characters that have already been pre-established throughout the series of BBC’s Merlin; characters are not strictly limited to being Human, nor are you going to be limited to being a Sorcerer or Sorceress, feel free to have reign over what it is you would like your character to be like, either have them be from a pre-established race- or if you feel like creating your own race, please feel free to contact either me, or one of my Co-GM’s via PM or in the OOC about it beforehand, just to make sure that you have the okay.
When it comes to making Dragonlords, there is a limit of two, one of these being Merlin himself- Dragonlords must also be of a different race from one another, for example: while Merlin is a human, the other Dragonlord will not be allowed to be human as well, but would in fact be allowed to be a Druid. In this case, the limit will have been reached, and another Dragonlord will not be permitted to be made until one has passed away in the IC for whatever reason.
Those of whom are wishing to play cannon characters must demonstrate a strong writing ability (good grammar, punctuation, ect.), and must please message me and my Co-GM’s with a sample post of that particular character for consideration; if the character and sample has been accepted, then you shall indeed be notified as soon as possible, so that you may begin to create your CS, and bring them into the fantasy world we have all worked hard to create together.
At this point in time, I am not going to be putting a limit on characters (aside from Dragonlords, of course); however at a later date, this may change, but please do not worry if by that time your character list exceeds the limit, no characters will be booted or removed from the roleplay- just please know that if, and/ or when this time does come, I will notify you all in the OOC. At this stage we are accepting all royals, rebels and villains from around the world- let your imaginations come to life, and have fun when creating your characters; and don’t be afraid to entwine their stories with the stories of others... with permission from that roleplayer of course.
Just a small side note for all when it comes to character appearances; please... please try to use actual people for your face-claims, and not drawn or anime pictures- as your GM, this tends to be a pet-peeve of mine, and I would really appreciate it. Please post all completed CS's in the OOC for consideration. In advance, I thank you for your co-operation.
PLEASE NOTE: When it comes to posting, please don't spam post. Make sure at least two people have posted before you post again.
