Eudaz is predominantly inhabited by humans, the descendants of refugees from Gaia. They were joined by few other peoples when they first entered the portal and so have maintained a strong resemblance to their ancestors. However, they are not alone - the plane they call home is native to supernatural beings called fiends. Like humans, fiends are a diverse species and have many races, languages and cultures of their own.

Plane Description:
Eudaz sits on the coast of landmass known as Oruborea. Its center is a vast, parched desert, which forces its inhabitants to reside in temperate regions along the coastline. Away from the center, Oruborea’s geography is diverse, encompassing teeming jungles, woodlands, grasslands and snowy mountains. Beyond several island chains, no one is sure what lies across the sea.

The Eudazeans are the descendants of a fiercely independent tribal culture and this is evident in its political structure. The monarch does not have absolute power over his or her subjects and can even be challenged by the nobility. The Assemblage is an annual gathering of the nobility that acts as the kingdom’s legislative body. Nobles have the opportunity to present and vote on issues. While the monarch’s duties include matters of law and policy, they can be overridden by vote. In extreme cases, if the nobility is unanimously displeased with the monarch, it can vote to replace the throne with another. The monarch therefore rules in the interest of their subjects, and must spend much of their time earning their support.
Succession of the throne is decided by election, in principle. Upon the death or deposition of the reigning monarch, the Assemblage casts votes for a replacement. In practice, the Assemblage often elects their heir apparent, sometimes maintaining the reigning lineage for generations.
The nobility’s power is not guaranteed by birthright, but is given with the consent of its citizens, grouped into administrative townships. The gentry of each township chooses which baron it pays allegiance to. This is often a matter of proximity and townships tend to support the same family as previous generations, but change can and does happen. Although townships have the right to switch allegiances, such has been the cause of bitter rivalries between baronies. In exchange for their allegiance in the form of military and economic obligations, townships expect protection from their lords and representation at the Assemblage.
Barons, in turn, pledge their loyalty to the dukes. There are only three dukedoms in Eudaz, and each is obligated to defend its loyal baronies and their townships. Dukes can be appointed by the king, with affirmation of the nobility. They act as military leaders in wartime and possess the largest standing armies among the nobility, along with the kingdom’s most strategically vital fortresses.
