*whispers* Wasn't friends a character-driven show?

So was The Office! D;

And Parks and Rec!

And Community!

These are sitcoms. they have no plot at all. you could literally pick a random episode, watch it, and not be lost at all. so it totally doesn't count.

Friends bores me, also, so I never watched it. The Office is eh. I've only seen two episodes of Parks and Rec because I got bored 'cause nothing was really happening. And Community I watched until Grover left. Then i said fuck you guys i'm out.

@Apokalipse Well I don't watch the show so I can't judge but I believe they also killed off Lincoln who was an example to why the show was so good (diverse [racially and sexually], complex characters). Like I think I've gone through the whole ordeal that everyone's upset about and I dropped the show that basically insults our intelligence with their repetitive plots and attempts to mislead you so they can "shock you."

Idk if I can agree with you on that. I don't like plot driven shows as much because you generally get cliche characters so you don't have to flesh them out as much because it's about the story and they always end up doing the bullshit shock value thing. I mean look at this RP: it's about the characters and their interactions and how they grow and I think if you have well developed characters it'll drive the plot accordingly. Like OITNB is an AMAZING show that gives each individual character a backstory and room to grow and become complex and that's what makes it so good.

Actually, it's usually the character-driven shows that do things for shock value because they have nothing else to do with their episodes but shock us.

And they didn't kill Lincoln off just to kill Lincoln off - the actor who played Lincoln wanted to leave the show so they had to kill him.

I disagree completely because I have never seen a character-driven show that was more than 75% good. Yes, i watch them all the time (but I'm a lover of trashy movies (like forreal, i love watching Vampire Academy because it's so fucking stupid it's enjoyable)) but that doesn't mean they have any merit. Any show that focuses more on characters than plot are most of the time (if not always) guilty of A) fanservice that completely ruins the show or B) ruin the show by throwing too many curveballs in order to elicit the whole shock value thing

Though I cannot speak about the future of The 100, this show clearly has a place it wants to go and a plot that seems to be outlined from the beginning (even if it wasn't, it's the illusion that counts). It has direction. All of the character-driven shows I watch have no direction: Jane the Virgin, Supernatural, any superhero tv show ever, Teen Wolf, etc. etc. which is why i stopped watching them.

However, when it comes to diversity, The 100 is definitely where it's at - even if they did kill off a couple of characters. For one, the main character is bisexual - which is rare in itself because shows like to pull that straight girl is only gay for one person nobody else card (which is fucking bullshit im looking at you degrassi); there are multiple POC characters such as Raven, Jaha, Monty, Bellamy, and Indra (plus a bunch of other characters). So I don't see how it's a big deal when two people are killed for plot or personal reasons when it has nothing to do with race or shock value.

But this is just my very stubborn opinion.
@Fabricant451 but everyone said The 100 was good but from what I heard they also are doing shit writing this season so.

ah, they're not doing shit writing

everybody's just mad that they killed off one of the lesbians

which annoys me because her death wasn't just for dramatic effect, it served a fucking purpose and the show couldnt move on without her death so everybody is being irrational about it

The 100 is A+ though and is one of the rare cases where the show is better than the book plus it's plot-based rather than character-based. Shows that are character-based (Supernatural, Arrow, Flash, Teen Wolf, etc. etc.) eventually become shit because they keep having to come up with a new plot in order to make a good show when a show should tell one plot with growth of characters and end of show.

i obviously have strong feelings about this sorry XD
