Managed to burn both my thumbs and index fingers pulling a tray of cookies out of the oven. I trusted you, oven mitts, and you betrayed me.

RP’s that amass a good player base and have a good start only to suddenly die are why I have trust issues.

In our defense I thought we wanted the trip to be quick so I put more focus on objectives rather than the details.

Also, if it helps move us along I could edit my post to push that group forward?
Demund & Damascus

The group decided once more to split as Gale and Alph headed out to find food for them and the dragons. Alph’s small orange dragon sat beside him watching everyone, while Demund’s own dragon stayed on the stairs glaring at Zyloria. He didn’t intend to attack the arrogant girl, but rather discourage her from leave while she still held the egg. The smith himself leaned against the wall keeping his eyes on both Zyloria and the entrance. Someone had already intruded once, that wasn’t going to happen again.

Silence hung over the room as Zyloria was caught in the gaze of both riders and their dragons. Though people were no longer pulling swords on each other, there was still a heavy tension between them. With the seconds starting to feel like hours, Demund finally broke his gaze from the girl and looked to the small orange dragon on the ground. The longer they acted as advisaries the sooner they would become so. He figured it was time to break the silence and put some minds at ease.

“Tell me something,” He asked looking back at Zyloria. “What was your goal exactly? You said you needed the egg for insurance, but you already had more than enough.” Pushing himself off the wall he began pacing around the girl, giving her enough space that she wouldn’t feel threatened. “You know our names, faces, pretty much everything the empire would need to find us. Of course we wouldn't have just abandoned you to roam the world with that knowledge. True we could have killed you and saved us the trouble, but if that’s what we wanted-” He stopped directly behind her and finished his statement, “You’d be dead where you stand.”
Why are none of you paying any attention to the survivor that's stuck in the barrel?

Once more reading this while looking at your current avatar just makes it that much funnier.
Jessi

Watching Fei back down from this fight only to run to the other, Jessi couldn’t help but wonder why he was even there. So far she had single handedly taken down an ogress while under a curse, killed a skilled barbarian in less than a minute, and even now charged into the heat of another battle rather than wait for one of the combatants to fall. Sure she was reckless, temperamental, and until recently he had thought...Well for lack of a better term, a royal bitch. But she was without a doubt the best warrior he had ever seen and in no way needed someone to look after her.

A thought sprung into Jessi’s mind, maybe this wasn’t about protecting her at all. Maybe the reason he wanted her to stand down had less to do with her protection, and more with her opinion. She had nothing to prove to him about her skills, but did she think of him in the same way? The thought was dropped just as easily as it came. Reasons didn’t matter now. The match was set and it was time to fight.

The moment Jessi locked eyes with Tegonay, the world around him vanished. Of course he was still observant of his surroundings, but his focus on this single battle was absolute. Tegonay made the first move calling on his tome the arena began to violently quake. Another bonus to improved senses, balance was never a worry. Despite the shaking floor, Jessi kept his center and was virtually uneffected. A sly smirk crept up on his face, “Again with magic? I thought you were better than that.”

A sudden shift in the ground behind him alerted him to the knight’s plan. He was going to try and force him into a corner was he? Jessi decided to play along with this game and held his position. Tegonay attacked without hesitation bringing his sword down with a mighty swing. Jessi was more than ready to stop the blade holding his spear out above him, but he had underestimated his foes strength as the force pushed him to his knees.

The dark knight must have taken this as a sign of weakness and spoke about overwhelming power. Still keeping the blade from reaching him, the valiant soldier retorted, ”Power may help you win, but it takes true skill to win any fight!” He pushed upwards hoping to send his opponent off balance. Instead Tegonay launched into the air and came down with a strike ready to cleave the young fighter in half.

Unknown to the armored man, this was just what Jessi was hoping for. Calculating and watching for just the right time he pushed off the ground and rolled under the knight just as he came crashing down. With lightening fast reflexes, Jessi spun around and drove his spear directly into the lower back of the black armor knowing any spot meant to bend would be weakest.

Something was wrong. He felt the break in the metal, but that was it. There was no puncture of flesh nor the sound of cracking bones. Quickly pulling his spear out, Jessi found it to be clean with not even a trace of blood. ”What...What are you?” he could hide the shock in his voice nor the fear he currently felt. Could he kill this metal monster? Had he even hurt it? For the first time in a while, Jessi was afraid. If he couldn’t hurt this thing, then it was only a matter of time before his defeat.

To be fair even house cats can be aggressive. Just because they're tiny doesn't mean they'll just sit and stare while someone does something they don't approve of. (Also we did slightly speed up the maturity rate of the dragons due to no one what's to RP something with the brain of a dog.)
Demund

Demund stared at the smoldering bodies. He had gotten used to the sting of smoke pouring into his eyes and didn’t hinder his gaze as he looked upon each one. He knew them. Though their names escaped him and he hardly spoke to any of them, he at least remembered their faces. And now? They were nothing but blackened forms that only gave the shape once being human. For the first time this day Demund was glad he had not eaten yet, as it surely would have come back up.

Pulling his eyes away from the horrid sight, Alph called to him from horse backing noting it was time to leave. Helping him up, Demund spoke just loud enough to be heard over the horses gallop. “I found out quite a bit from my father, but I think it would be best if I shared it once we have regrouped.”

Damascus

The larger of the dragons made no move as the new arrival peeked her head around the corner. Instead he sat still watching her as she and the other humans spoke. She seemed friendly enough, at least she didn’t appear to be a threat. The others of his kin disagreed. The small orange one hissed and glared ready to go on the offensive while the no as small white one hid behind one of the unborn.

How quickly his stance on the girl changed when she made a grab at one of the eggs. Damascus didn’t even hesitate to leap past the girl and onto the stairs blocking her path. At least, as much as a newborn dragon could. He gave a short snort and an angry look at the red haired girl, making it clear he didn’t approve of her leaving with the egg.
Demund

Demund wasted no time after they reached Mashal and split for the their own homes. Filled with panic he ran faster than he ever had before. What happened? Had anyone they been close too harmed? Was this...because of them?

Demund pushed the thoughts out of his mind. He had a task and it needed to be done quickly. He paid no mind to the empty streets or the neighbors peering out their windows. Arriving at his home knocked on the door and announced his presence. The door swung open and Demund’s father rushed him inside.

Relatching the door his father let out a long sigh of relief, “I was so worried something happened to you. Are the others alright?” Demund asured him everyone was well followed quickly with his own questions, ”What is going on? Why is everyone hiding?”

Taking a deep breath, his father did his best to explain everything. “Not long after you boys left, a woman with deep red hair showed up and started asking questions about ‘magic’ and ‘rider swords’. Of course no one knew what she was talking about. She must have thought we were lying because then she...she...” his father looked visibly disturbted and his voice trembled as he spoke. “She went to the house in the center of town...and murdered the poor family that lived there."

Demund couldn't believe what he heard. That family never did anything to warrant such crulty! The whole town must have been like this father, struggling to make sense of this senseless violence. Demund knew though. She had come for the eggs. For them. Despite the shaken state his father was in, Demund knew he couldn't wait any longer. ”Father...The time has come for me to leave Mashal.”

The old Smith was caught completely off guard, “What?” Demund knew more questions would follow and instead of lying, he decided he deserved the truth; though not all of it. ”Me and the others…We found something in the woods. Something many powerful people would be angry if it became known. I can't tell you anymore but. That woman? I'm almost certain she was looking for us.”

A cold silence fell over the room. Demund's father stated at him with shocked wonder. Though Demund prepared for a bombardment of questions, he instead walked over and put his hand on his son's shoulder and said calmly, “Whatever you need. Take with you.”

The two scurried about the house putting together a pack of various supplies and filling a small purse with coins. Just before he was ready to leave, Demund's father emerged from his room with a long cloth package loosely tied together. Before he could ask, his father explained. “I wanted you to have this when you left for your travels. Though it's not how we planned, I think you'll need it now more than ever.” Handing it to him, Demund could feel it's shape and knew what it was. He pulled the string off and revealed the finely crafted sword resting in its sheath.

It was beautiful. The full length was easily just above three feet and made completely of steel. The blade was perfectly straight and balanced for one or two hands as needed with an edge that could cut a gently falling leaf. It's hilt was wrapped in soft leather strips and had a remarkable design. The whole thing must have taken weeks if not more to craft yet he never once saw his father working on it.

Before he could thank him, his father pulled the boy in and hugged him tightly; tears streaming down his cheeks. “I only wish your mother were here. She would be so proud.” It was when he spoke these words reality came crashing down on Demund. This may be the last time he ever saw his father, or the town he had called home for so long. He nearly didn't let go, but doing so would seal the fate of everyone here. The tie had come. He needed to leave.

Giving a last tearful goodbye to his father, Demund strapped his new sword on his back and carried his load of supplies outside. The fire from the center of town still clouded the sky and burned his lungs with the dark fumes. Whether it was to fully convince him of what he was doing, or simply out of morbid curiosity, Demund knew he had to see what the final fate of the family was. And so he headed to the center of town.
@Gisk
Good plan. Now I just gotta push past some writers block and we'll be golden.
@Ceta de Cloyes
I would assume just the way they came. They already went through the mud once so I doubt they'd try to avoid it now.
@Ceta de Cloyes
Good good. I was hoping not but I just remembered she was going to the bridge and had to be sure we were gonna die XD
