”Chen, you’re talking to an imperial soldier and a guardian in training. Trust me when I say combat is definitely our way of relieving stress.” Jessi said in response to Chen’s book comment.
Though what they came to find as they followed Si was not at all what Jessi was talking about. The corpses of his fallen brothers in arms and the mercs and fey, who no doubt helped in their demise, paved a horrific path through the usually peaceful forest. The sounds of battle all around them, the taste and scent of blood in the air, it was sickening. But this was what Jessi had been training for all his life and he wasn’t going to back out now. He too stepped closer to Fei but not out of fear, but protective instinct as he watched for danger.
Fei muttered to Jessi not to die in which he simply replied,
”Wasn’t planning on it.” As the words left his lips he caught sight of a mercenary charging straight at him. Before he could even level his spear, Fei jumped in front and took the kill.
”You know, the more I’m with you the more I seriously question why anyone thought you’d need personal security.” The light hearted banter would have to wait as two more mercenaries jumped out of the trees at Fei no doubt trying to avenge their now deceased comrade.
This time Jessi was the first to act sending the back of his spear into the right mercenaries stomach forcing him to keel over, then bringing his spear to the left impaling the other mercenary in the neck. Ripping his spear from the man Jessi turned the Fei and shrugged,
”Answered my own question I guess.” Immediately after he delivered a roundhouse to the man he stunned knocking him unconscious. Nothing said they had to kill
everyone.
