The Pickers

Introdution

Within the Siren Star System, you are a Picker. You search, scratch, scrounge deep against the surfaces of space, looking for anything considered valuable in abandoned and neglected places. Often, it is old artifacts such as flags of extinct races, ancient pieces of arts, or even stone tablets of races in their primitive stages. Other times you may stumble on secret hideouts of local gangs, where within may hosts new and unknown drugs or profitable intel. You are very much a scavenger, but it has been the more popular slang to be called a Picker. Most Pickers travel in bands working for companies, but you instead are a prisoner of the galactic law, a convict. And though you have spent time locked away, you have proven yourself well-behaved and well skilled enough to work off-world as a Picker under the supervision of two law enforcement officials- a captain and a lieutenant. With each object discovered and submitted for inspection your band of Pickers receive both payment and points. The point system holds the amount of points remaining until you are granted full freedom. The more valuable something is, the more points you earn, the sooner you are free soul.

Currently, you have served two years as a Picker and you are half-way to paying off a long awaited debt. But one of you has just found the thing to grant all of you freedom. A chip recording that suggests where the last of the human race may be. The galactic council in charge of the rehabilitation Picker program will grant you your points plus payment if the recording is submitted to them, yet they refuse to go into further investigation for the lost race and instead will chose to destroy the recording all together. The Captain and lieutenant are not too keen of this decision and is choosing to defy the council by searching for the human race themselves, having no choice but bring the Pickers with them. They want answers for the sudden disappearance of an entire race.

Plot

Right off the bat, things kick off with action. While some convicts enjoy the thrill to be back on their feet breaking the law, others are furious to see their attempt to rejoin society and start a new life, be utterly destroyed. A riot is just reckon to break out within the ship.

Though, looking at a bigger picture, the characters will not only be tracing clues to find the last of the human race, but they will also be trying to dodge and out ride attacking council ships. Even on planets, the group will encounter paid mercenaries to terminate them and take the recording. However, the true enemy might just lay within the ship itself, among its crew, some ex-convicts may be working with the council in secret to catch and keep track on the ship’s location. Overall, there will be a lot of character interaction with distrust, suspicion, and betrayal lurking among every corner. Friendships may be forged through alliances, and others broken through deception.

Characters

Since the human race is currently known to be nonexistent, but possibly hiding. All characters will be aliens. The Pickers were chosen to be the only one of their race onboard to mix with other species in order to overcome racial tensions. So all characters will represent their one race. I’m excited to learn about new creatures and their cultures because I have found it rare to find a sci-fi roleplay strictly non-human. I will later post a character sheet when things start rolling, but I will require a picture for your creature. Thus, an alien concept design will do as long as the picked alien is not too ionic like a Wookie from Star Wars. There will Spots for Pickers, a Lieutenant, and a Pilot. My character will take spot as Captain, as the Captain will be moving the plot along.

Rules

1.) As GM, of course I get final say and authority on matters when the time calls for it.
2.) Remember to take hold of common roleplay etiquette such as no godmodding, controlling other characters without permission, no Mary Sues, so on and so forth.
3.) This will be a high casual roleplay, quality will be expect far more than quantity, but five hundred words per posts is appreciated.
4.) Keep all content within the roleplay and within the OCC PG-13
5.) Final rule and probably one of the most important, please stay active, each character means a lot to the roleplay. I understand there are bumps and humps in life that delay us from hobbies like roleplaying, but if you do have to leave please give me a private message and we will see how we can work things out. But I am looking for long term roleplayers.

I'm down to join some sci-fi action. I've just recently gotten myself into Dark Matter and have been a longtime fan of Mass Effect.
@SouffleGirl123
Great, you can have the spot. Hoping for more spots to be take too, but glad to have you on board.

The End of Pax Romana

The Prologue

Upon the year 249 A.D., blood boils profusely against the dust-ridden battlefield near Verona. Blades are seen rising towards the sun in tune with the cries of victory. Decius has broken his line of general to enter the rule of emperor, as his dearest friend whom once entrusted him whole heartedly, Philip the Arabian, lies deep and dead against the soil, mangled and mutilated. Alongside the fallen man welcomes sons and fathers of the surviving soldiers. No foreign blood was shed.
Roman ripping Roman ruggedly in the ties of a power struggle is only the beginning of the reign of Gaius Messius Quintus Decius…

The streets of Rome are stomped by the harsh steps of soldiers. It is a homecoming, a parading of men for the praise of their new emperor- a true traditionalist, a true Roman. Amongst these who joined them rides a centurion. Once celebrations find their end, the officer finds his home, finds himself nearing in fear to his wife as he clings to a rotting cloth. Before his woman ushers a kiss to her long awaited warrior, the cloth is shaken from the corpse it once covered- a son murdered by his father…

The Characters

Players can choose from the following selection of main characters below. These characters will face the historically-accounted reign of Emperor Decius, a usurper that rose to power through military respect. The main characters are comprised of their own life crisis in relation to the era. During this time, a vicious new tribe of barbarians known as the Goths, have crossed the Danube River and have made their way into the empire itself. Some characters will serve as soldiers and will march off into battle during the span of the roleplay, however their wives and children will remain within the protection of the city. Drama may surely be enticed while the men are off to war and away from the supervision of their home. This roleplay will have its turns of romance, military action, and family struggle. A strong driving force of the game will be pressed on the events during the reign of Emperor Decius, such as Decian persecution of a new radical religion, Christianity.

Original characters are permitted, however to insure that the main characters are selected, there can be no more than five original characters until the main ones have all been taken. If you wish to control more than one character, as of now, you may take two main characters and one original, or three main characters and no originals. The rules of this may change depending on spot reservation. I’ll put up the specific character sheet perhaps tomorrow or when things start turning. But reservations can begin. If you have any suggestions considering the plot or characters feel free to private message me.

The Achilleus Family

Though Aurelius has been hardened by a military life since the age of 16, he was broken by the death of his eldest son, Ajax, during the battle between Philip the Arabian and Decius. Ajax had died by the hands of his own father, with the eyes of a scared boy following the blade that penetrated through his chest. Aurelius performed his duty as a loyal soldier, yet he is still haunted with regret. The centurion fears his son's corpse will shred a strong tear against his family, especially with his wife.

She is Aurelius’s only daughter and is on her way into an arranged marriage. Yet in secret, she has already found herself a lover, their Christian slave boy. Her father is completely oblivious to the fact that she has converted to this newfound religion, but her mother has taken a hint of her daughter’s fond liking in the slave. Aurelius is a strong and stubborn traditionalist, thus making anything foreign dangerous. Once he discovers both his daughter’s new lover and religion, he will do everything to break it from her.

|| Name || Family Slave || Age: || Face Claim: || Open ||

Aurelius has always been kind to the family slave with one rule in mind, no gods foreign to the Roman ones shall be uttered within his home. The slave has had thoughts of escaping, but only in hopes that him and Aurelius’s daughter can live alone and free together.

On the battlefield, Nicodemus is Aurelius’s second-in-command, the Optio Centuriae, and outside it Nicodemus is Aurelius’s best friend. 2.) Remember to take hold of common roleplay etiquette such as no godmodding, controlling other characters without permission, no Mary Sues, so on and so forth.
3.) As of roleplay length, I prefer for things to be kept at a five hundred word minimum with proper grammar though I understand we aren't perfect and cannot always reach that mark. But you what they said, quality over quantity.
4.) Keep all content within the roleplay and within the OCC PG-13
5.) All face claims must be real people and not anime or cartoon characters
6.) Final rule and probably one of the most important, please stay active, each character means a lot to the roleplay. Is anyone else interested into some drama brewing between Roman and her people?

2nd Lieutenant Yvette Slade

With a swift cock of the blade, a bloody spurt slid against the surface of her helmet along with pervious stains adorn in the mere slaughter of the scout. Yet, it was at that instance of the Staff Sergeant confirming the causality that Slade had seen a lifeless body. "Agreed...," was the only word spoken in response to him. With one last glance at the body buried in both blood and snow, Slade sprung from the guts of it all.

Slade heard screams, and it was not the cries of her victims. No, it was the Private, Webley. The same man who she had casually spoken to hours earlier over a pool table with the tunes of rock instrumental music playing in the background. He had cooked her day's meal before terror struck. And now because of that terror, because of those Tellosians, he was hurting, hollering in the pinching agony that pried his peace. If having an itchy-trigger finger was a disease, she was direly infected, but also certain it is contagious.

Busting into the presence of her Lieutenant once her, Jacobson, and Craster returned, Slade noticed O'Connor's panic following Delouse's commands for composure. Slade firmly laid her hand on O'Connor's shoulder, wishing that he would just stop shaking, trembling, because up until this point to her, O'Connor was the most annoying among the unit. He was an irritating know-it-all, but now he was vulnerable, scared even. Thus grabbing his shoulder, the Second Lieutenant pushed him against the wall, with both hands now on his shoulder, briefly saying, "O'Connor! Listen, listen to me. I'm giving you an order- grow some balls. I am not going to let you die today!" Her words were harsh, yet at the heart them, Slade was comforting him, not cursing him. She let go, "Death's going to have to take me before it takes you. Remember that." Slade cared about him to the degree that she was not going to lose him to the Tellosians or to fear. And that went for the rest of the team, because her blood lust was their insurance.

"If anyone wants to join me, so be it. But I'm going to move out and spread out, hold them off from a different position." If they were going to survive, being back up in one area was not going to make it happen. They had to be flexible, secure the premises. So, Slade sprinted off towards the front entrance of the outpost, an obvious place that perhaps enemies may flood through when forces start springing in. Charging through, taking cover to cover for safety's sake, Slade was given another surprise attack for the day- they were no longer alone. Tellosian infiltrators breached through the BGO, she got the memo with the butt of a rifle bashed against her helmet, she tried coming back with a swing of the elbow but that follow with her taking a heel to a joint of the leg, feeling the breaking of her own bones. But that feeling was numbed by the anxiety of the death that beckoned against her shoulder. Slade whipped out her sidearm, putting an end to her bone breaker and gunning down the few remaining Tellosians that crawled their way inside the post. "Grgh!" She cried into the comm as each step stung trying to find cover. "Got into another scrap, and a broken leg-- AH!," she cried into the comm. We've been breached, managed to splatter some heads, but--" She was cut off by the sound of gunshots. "I NEED COVER NOW!"
